Riesenlied fell.

She fell a long, long way.

The depths of the abyss struck her hard.

There was nothing to cushion her fall, no magic, no angelic presence, no kindling of power there to sustain her in a time of need. Nothing except a holding hand that shares a kindred sentiment with her, in her darkest hour, in her time of need.

Are you awake yet?

She turns from where she's seated herself on the chair once more.

The girl steps into her view, as ever, her limbs white and blue with frostbite, with caked blood that has frozen over. Her robes are sopped and wet, and her fringes hang low over her eyeline. Yet she stares towards Riesenlied, just the once, with a gentle smile.

... were you expecting someone?

Riesenlied quietly shakes her head. There's nothing but darkness here. "Of... of course not."

You lie. The winged demon swallows a quiet lump on her throat, as the girl chuckles and trails a little course closer to her. Were you perhaps expecting... the Guardian?

"... I came here to..." Riesenlied can't help but admit, but the girl places her frozen finger to her lip. You realise it won't ever happen. There is none who will come to absolve your guilt. You are looking for a truth that is simply not there. You wish deeply for fantasy to come save you from a bitter reality.

Rattled, Riesenlied places a hand to her temple as she murmurs, "I still believe--"

You wish for someone else to come and claim responsibility, so that you don't have to. You say 'I'm protecting a friend', but Hiro is right. You are complicit in all of this. The ice-bitten girl slips her hand to her robe, where a large gash has pierced her throat. She draws a finger upon it, and lays fresh blood on Riesenlied's hand. No amount of window dressing will change that fact, you coward.

"I never... said I was innocent..." Riesenlied whispers, the verve seeping from her lips as she speaks.

... 'Seek the new world.' I remember saying that once. The girl leans forward further to brush a lock of Riesenlied's hair aside, still smeared with blood. But do you know what it means? What is the world that you seek? What price are you willing pay for it? Are you truly seeking that new world, or are you merely spinning your wheels?

"... must I choose...? Must I choose someone to abandon?" Riesenlied laments quietly, but even as she stresses, closes her eyes, the darkness begins to shake. A roar rattles the depths of the darkness that she shrouds herself in. "What-- was that?"

... I don't know. You tell me. I'm just the chipper, cheerful figment of a dead person in your head, remember?

Riesenlied opens her eyes--

--and teeth and blade stare back at her.
