  • Summary: On the beach, Layna has a moment of quiet contemplation...

A woman stands on the beach of an isolated cove, staring out into the ocean beyond the shores as waves lap at the sand around her feet. Her hair, long and blonde, flutters gently in the salty sea breeze, and her coat...

Her coat isn't present, and neither is her hat. Not too far away, her crew was hard at work transforming the land into a new place for them to live. A safe, comfortable place. But right now, that felt far away to her. This woman wasn't here today as Layna Manydays, notorious pirate queen, captain of the Ruby Empress. Today she was simply Layna, a woman with an earnest love for the sea.

It shows in her outfit, simple and plain, and in her bearing, calm and introspective as opposed to the usual boisterous antics people might expect from her.

"When I first landed here...I was surrounded by a field of dirt and rock. I thought to myself...'I guess the Blue Star is as horrible as legends say'. A land bereft of life...that's what I saw that day. I couldn't wait to get back."

"But my ship...my pride and joy, the place where I was raised, the Ruby Empress...she was stuck there. Buried in the stone. I couldn't help but laugh. And then I began to wonder...'is this my punishment'? For everything I've done...all the crimes I committed..."

"It would've only been fitting. Someone who makes a living off of those who have the 'audacity' to travel by sea...marooned on a dying world, separated forever from the sea she claims to love." She chuckles derisively to herself.

"But...the Blue Star...'Filgaia'...it's a lot different than I thought. There's still beauty here. Life struggling to live on. And the sea, shining and blue and just as beautiful as the first day I laid eyes on it, back on Lunar...maybe there's hope yet. I'm here, and my crew still hasn't rallied against me for not doing any proper pirating. Maybe we can do something to help while we're here."

She's quiet for a moment longer, before she glances down at an object she had been holding in her hand - a stone tablet, bearing the image of a fin.

"...I don't know if you can even hear me. Honestly, I don't even know your name. I know the lot of you must be going through some hard times, yourselves...or else you wouldn't have foisted this on a bunch of humans. Outsiders, at that. This isn't my world. These aren't my people. I don't really owe you anything. But even so...on my name and on my ship, I'm not the sort who can just let them die."

Silence falls once more. Layna shuts her eyes. Her hair continues to flutter in the salty sea breeze. The waves continue to lap at the sand around her feet. There was nothing audibly said, but the sound of the sea was a language in and of itself.

"...'Lucadia', huh? Maybe I'll get more out of you some day. Until then...let's work together." With that said, Layna turns and walks away, returning the Medium to her pocket. She had a lot of work left to do here, and she intended to see it through.
