There it sits, the Ghost Ship. Around it, the sea has gone completely quiet,
and a stillness fills the air. The clouds hang low like a mist. Only the
ship's shape can be clearly made out, its rotten exterior full of holes -
and that draconic head at its front, red eyes gleaming on it. Climbing onto
the ship can be done through a ladder, but once on the deck, there's only
one way down visible: big, heavy, locked doors. There's still time to turn
back - but if you don't, you'd best knock to announce your presence.

<Pose Tracker> Avril Vent Fleur has posed.

There's a thing about stories. They've got a way of evolving, for one. And for another, sometimes they can evolve in highly unexpected ways.

Take Avril and Dean's current situation, for example. A story about a ghost ship had changed to a story about a ghost ship still tethered to this world because of unfinished business, and that unfinished business had become...

...The manifest that included an undelivered, lost Golem still resting in a ruin somewhere?

Needless to say, certain parties were 'hype' about this.

"Dean, I am beginning to wonder about the veracity of that story," Avril comments, standing atop the deck of the ghost ship as it bobs and sways upon the tide in the bay. Grey clouds slide across the sky, barely doing a thing to cover a moon that glows an almost malicious orange. Slightly, Avril tilts her head as she gazes out towards the shore, barely visible in the gloom.

Then back at the pair of heavy doors that stand before them and the ship's interior, no sound save the soft creak of apparently ancient wood.

"..."
She raises a hand to her chin, thoughtfully. Without further ado, she approaches the door and... raps on it delicately with the back of her right hand.

"Perhaps we should knock, first."
Politeness counts.

DG: Avril Vent Fleur has contributed a Brute Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Forced Entry.
<Pose Tracker> Claude C. Kenny has posed.

When last we saw Claude C. Kenny, he was breaking into a castle to punch THE LAW in the face, where THE LAW took the form of a slightly moe girl with cute pigtails who was secretly a cyborg. Cow Patty Planet continues to throw him all sorts of curve balls, really.

With THE LAW presumably hunting for him, if only to find out why he was chasing after a flying* princess, Claude readily accepted the invitation to spend some time crawling through dungeons in search of things to pawn off in order to equip his big dumb analog robot.

That said dungeon was in fact a supposed ghostly vessel was sort of a bonus; while Claude may not quite be as tough as he once thought he was, the Kennys-versus-Ghosts scoreboard stands at a whole bunch to zero, thanks largely to the black leather gloves he is pulling onto his hands as the group approaches the vessel. Stitched into the back with red thread are the words:

                               EFF U
                               GOESTS!

Thusly equipped, the young naval officer steps onto an actual ship for the first time in his career. He sniffs as he looks around. "Doesn't seem all that bad, really," Claude says, utterly oblivious to the air of poised malice hanging over the ship like a fog bank. He regards the door thoughtfully, and then reaches down to his belt, removing a small bottle from a medicine pouch. The bottle yields a couple of little white pills, which Claude offers around before popping one into his mouth and chewing noisily. "Don't worry 'bout knocking," he says, stepping backward and lifting his arm back. "I brought a key."

His hand begins to glow with a power that could, if one wished, be described as generating some awe.

DG: Claude C. Kenny has used his Tool Pla-C-Bow toward his party's challenge, Forced Entry.
<Pose Tracker> Ida Everstead-Rey has posed.

When Ida last left the ghost ship, it was sinking beneath the waves. The fact that it's back, and in one piece, is more than a little disconcerting, but as a ghostly vessel, it may well have its own, eldritch rules. Ida is not looking forward to going back, but the same parties who hired her to try and banish it last time offered her more money, and made angrier, more desperate appeals. This time, Ida brought backup that she was certain wouldn't start squabbling over some wizarding-school rivalry. The fact that said backup are good at breaking down troublesome objects is a bonus.

Ida follows Claude up the gangplank, which creaks under her weight like something in torment. She frowns at the door--that gave her trouble, last time--and pulls out a prybar. As Claude exerts his own special brand of force, Ida winds up for... a kick?

The sole of her boot strikes the rotting wood with a horrible, crackling groan. Undeterred, she does it again.

DG: Ida Everstead-Rey has contributed a Brute Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Forced Entry.
<Pose Tracker> Dean Stark has posed.

It's true. The moment Dean heard the word 'Golem' he wouldn't stop until they went to explore it.

"Avril, that story wasn't in a city, it's about a ship out on the open seas!" Dean helpfully explains to Avril as the sage young man who does *not* have amnesia. This is practically a side thought, though, as he steps onto said ship with Avril, Claude, and Ida, eyes wide with wonder as he looks around. The moon can glare down at him all it likes; it does nothing to dampen his enthusiasm. "Wow! What kind of Golem do you think they have on here? A swimming Golem? A water purifying Golem? Maybe a deep diving exploration Golem! It's gonna be so cool!!"

Claude offers his opinion on the place. Dean nods firmly. "Yeah! I mean, I'm not that used to the ocean, but the swaying isn't so bad, really!" Someone else is also oblivious to the malice, it seems. Someone's also oblivious to the potential dangers of just up and eating a little white pill someone offers you without at least asking what it is first; Dean happily takes one and chews down. "Oh, a key! That'll be really helpful! I won't have to knock the lock off with my shovel that way."

...

"That doesn't look like a key," he adds, with the slightest mote of disappointment, as Claude raises a glowing fist, and Ida several ferocious kicks, to the lock.

Nonetheless, once he starts getting the idea that this is how we're doing things now, he gets his shovel out and starts using it as a crowbar on the heavy doors, ready to pull once the lock's been smashed.

DG: Dean Stark has used his Tool Black Fenrir - THAT DAMN SHOVEL toward his party's challenge, Forced Entry.

DG: The party led by Avril Vent Fleur has passed this challenge! The party gained 20 exploration! If anyone needs to use party
management commands, do so now. Otherwise, the next round's GM may begin the next round with +dungeon/draw.
<Pose Tracker> Avril Vent Fleur has posed.

"...A city...?" Avril's brow creases.
She gets what he meant about five minutes later. "...Oh. I see. That sort of 'city'," she says, a little too seriously.

"Hmm." Her gloved fingers rest on her lips for a moment as she considers Dean's words, then, her hand falling away, nods once. "It could be that. Of course, it could be something else... If the Golem is not on this ship, it does stand to reason that it may not be seaworthy..."

For some reason, Avril doesn't seem even the slightest bit unsettled by the movement of the ship, as if she's managed to gain sea legs in record time. Perhaps she's sailed before...?

In any rate, she finds herself in possession of one (1) white mystery pill which she stares quizzically moments after trying to see if anyone is home.

Big surprise, they're not. The doors stay closed.

"Oh, my apologies." She steps aside as the others try something with a little bit more of a 'bite' to it. Or a boot, or a fist, as the cases may be.
Or a shovel.

Long at sea -- or just infused with eldritch power -- or not, the doors resist Ida's boot with a crack as they hold fast.

The introduction of the edge of the shovel -- the wood shrieks as it strains against the makeshift crowbar -- forces the battle against the doors to a different level.
Before the introduction of the force behind a furiously glowing fist just blows them right open.

DG: Dean Stark has drawn a new Challenge.

It's sudden and jarring. A massive white, slimy tentacle attached to god

rotten wood, swinging wildly. It doesn't seem to have a very good lock on
your location - it attempts to swing at the party numerous times, but it's
clear it's taking big, broad strikes instead of aiming.
=Dungeon Conditions: Bad Luck, Exhaust, Cripple===============================
<Pose Tracker> Dean Stark has posed.

While Dean might've been a bit disappointed when Claude did not actually produce a key, the ensuing HADOUKEN gets him brightening up right quick. "Oh, wow! That was so cool! You just blew up that door with your fist!" he enthuses, as if Claude had not been there and just done the thing. "How'd you do that? I wanna do that!" He pauses in thought, then turns to his white-haired friend. "Avril, can my ARMs do that?" She might be amnesiatic, but he *did* get them from her, so she *might* know...?

Regardless, the doors are good and blown wide open. Dean tucks his shovel away, then trots inside, full of vim and vigor and cheer and absolutely no notice of the growing malice that throbs like a heart in a chest opened up for surgery around them. At the very least, he *does* take notice of the great white tentacle that greets the further in--by smashing upwards through the wooden floor and thrashing wildly and violently across the room. "WAUGH!!" Dean yelps, jumping backwards out of the way of the initial swipe. "Guys, watch out! It's a... it's a... what's waving that around, anyway?!"

The tentacle responds by lashing out towards the sound of his voice. Dean yelps again and attempts to shove his friends into motion and out of the way, assuming they haven't already scarpered like reasonable human beings.

And the tentacle smash-smash-smashes along after them, blind but with great ferocity--and great speed, as more and more of the floor gets ripped apart in its wake...
All channels have been gagged.

<Pose Tracker> Claude C. Kenny has posed.

Claude C. Kenny smiles brightly at Dean; what a nice young man! "Pushups, mostly," he says. "Pushups, situps, and plenty of ju--"

*WHAM*WHAM*WHAM*WHAM*

"AUGH NO!" Claude yelps as Dean shoves him (accidentally) into the side of the door; he stumbles forward and breaks into a run. "It's probably a kraken!" the young man suggests as he vaults over a... uh, what are those called again? The big metal tubes that spit out balls? Well, one of those, anyway. "They're, like, big squids!"

The tentacle obliterates the thing that Claude doesn't know is a cannon.

"REALLY big squids!" he adds, unnecessarily.

DG: Claude C. Kenny has contributed a Agility Basic Action toward his party's challenge, Thrashing Tentacle.

<Pose Tracker> Ida Everstead-Rey has posed.

That horrible feeling is back. Ida's heart beats a little quicker as the party moves through the door--she looks around, her expression growing more anxious. And then, suddenly--!

"It's here!" Ida cries, barely keeping her shout of alarm from turning into a shriek. Dean shoves her back, and she almost loses her footing--but she turns the awkward near-fall into a reasonably nimble tuck-and-roll. She comes up on her feet behind a mast, but the tentacle's flailing offers no protection--it strikes the rotting wood a foot or so above her head, snapping through like it was no more than a matchstick.

"It's--it's whatever sank this ship!" She sights the door ahead, and runs for it.

DG: Ida Everstead-Rey has contributed a Agility Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Thrashing Tentacle.
<Pose Tracker> Avril Vent Fleur has posed.

'Can my ARMs do that?'

Avril pauses, the needle on the record skipping a step as she gazes back at him a little blankly.

And at length, the young woman shakes her head and shrugs. "I am sorry, Dean. I do not remember anything about them."

With that, she carries on.
Or at least, hesitates, visibly, before the yawning portal before her. Briefly, she crosses her arms across her abdomen before staring down the darkness beyond and forcefully taking the next step in.

No more than two seconds after her foot sets upon the floorboard behind the threshhold does a great white tentacle erupt into the room. "No--!" Taking one step backwards, her foot lingers just inside the doorframe. Out from the depths of her skirt, she draws a roughly octagonal metallic object. "...A giant squid? Dean! Everyone! Please, we must hurry!"

"--Lucadia--"

It's a prime location for calling upon the grace and speed of the Sea Guardian. The Medium shines brightly within Avril's grasp.

DG: Avril Vent Fleur has used her Tool Sea Medium toward her party's challenge, Thrashing Tentacle.

<Pose Tracker> Dean Stark has posed.

Avril stares at Dean. Dean looks back at her expectantly. He's only a little disappointed when she tells him the obvious. "Aww. Okay. I'll just have to figure it out for myself!" Fortunately, Claude's training regime seems really simple, kinda like stuff Dean already does--push-ups, sit-ups, and that elusive j--?! Except then tentacles happen.

"SORRY!" Dean yelps over to Claude; he didn't mean to shove him into the door, it's just that there's not a lot of space between here and VIOLENTLY FLAILING TENTACLE. "Y-you ran into this thing before?!" he shouts over to Ida, while Claude specifies that it's a kraken, and then further specifies that it's a really big squid, which is actually very helpful. "We gotta get outta here--!"

Then Avril calls upon the power of the Sea Guardian. That power surges, envelopes her, and deposits her safely across the room, beyond the reach of the vicious tentacle, over to the door out.

Sadly, Ida, Dean, and Claude had been too busy running to realize that they have to be on the same hex to receive the benefits of Jump. Avril can only watch as the three of them barely avoid getting jellified as the tentacle smashes what remains of the room, and then mysteriously vanishes as if it had never really been--but not before crushing the floor under *her* feet, too. The darkness below yawns wide as if to swallow them all, and soon they land in...

<Pose Tracker> Claude C. Kenny has posed.

...a hallway, apparently. One full of skeletons!

"Ow," grunts Claude C. Kenny, who slowly pulls himself up off the decking, chunks of bone tumbling from his clothes as he does. The young naval officer rubs his butt - where he landed on what he hopes was a femur - and then looks around. "Huh, seems like... a puzzle of some kind," Claude says thoughtfully. This seems like the sort of thing that a handheld scanning ARM filled with futuristic technology could solve really easily!

<Pose Tracker> Avril Vent Fleur has posed.

Lucadia's presence descends--

And Avril and Avril alone finds herself safe on the other side of the room. "Ah..." Blue eyes widen. "Dean!"

She lingers. The floor sure doesn't.

A short while later, the green-clad woman rises somewhat dizzily from the floor below, before her gaze snaps upwards in search of lingering cephalopodly (??) interlopers. But there's little but the soft creaaak of the ship, the stillness of the bones scattered around them...

...The enduring presence of the darkness and their currently cramped quarters...

Avril makes a small noise, her expression decidedly drawn as she glances this way and that across the hold they've found themselves in. At her sides, her hands curl into fists.

Abruptly, she takes a step forward. "...This way. It should be... this way." She doesn't explain further. The boards underfoot creak as she takes another step into the darkness, a fingerbone skittering out of the way of her foot.

DG: Avril Vent Fleur has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward her party's challenge, The Body Marks The Spot.
<Pose Tracker> Dean Stark has posed.

Skeletons! Skeletons as far as the eye can see!

Dean groans, rubbing his back as he gets up from the wooden floors along with his companions. "Avril? Ida? Claude? You guys all okay?" he asks as he stands and looks around. It seems that the answer is both yes and no--everyone's in one piece and not reduced to a fine red paste, buuuuuuuuut skeletons. Dean blinks wide-eyed at them, but it doesn't seem like they're going to spring up and tear them to pieces, so...... yay?

"I dunno," he says, scratching his head as he answers Claude. Fortunately, it seems like Avril has the answers, and Dean immediately trusts her without question. "Okay!" he says following after her. As they go, he adds, "You know, if we need to press some of these buttons and they're too far away, I bet I could hit 'em with my ARM!" He means by shooting bullets. They are at least blunt, soft ones best used for solving puzzles for some reason? Either way, his twin ARMs flash into his hands, to be used at a moment's notice should Avril deem it necessary.

Or Ida! She's smart too. Dean would also trust her judgment. Claude........... Claude can help him push boxes or something. Once boxes show up, anyway.

DG: Dean Stark has used his Tool Twin Fenrir - Standard Cartridge toward his party's challenge, The Body Marks The Spot.
<Pose Tracker> Ida Everstead-Rey has posed.

The floor gives way. Ida screams as she tumbles into the blackness.

Something breaks her fall. It's damp, and it smells awful, but at least it's a softer landing than what Claude got. Ida takes a moment to recover her breath--the fall knocked the wind out of her--and rises to her feet. "I'm all right," she croaks out." She landed atop a pile of mouldering canvas sacks, and the hallway ahead is strewn with more of them. More importantly, it is strewn with skeletal remains as well. She presses a hand to her chest, and raises the other.

"One moment," she says. "Let's... gather our wits here, while that thing is elsewhere. When it returns, it won't show us any more mercy than it did the last time." She looks down the hallway, and then reaches into her pocket. She comes up with a packet of (slightly squished but otherwise unharmed) chocolate biscuits. "Biscuit?" Ida takes one herself, and chews it contemplatively, the delicious carbohydrates providing a much-needed pick-me-up (or perhaps just an excuse to stress-eat). "I think we'd best avoid shooting, for now," she says to Dean. "And the bodies. I think I see plates beneath them."

Once everyone is fed, she moves on, trying to do just that!

She frowns, stops in her tracks, and tries to see if anything looks familiar--it doesn't. Between the dawning feeling of unease and her poor, aching ribs, she is not having a good time of it. "Beg your pardon," Ida says, raising a hand once again. "One moment. I can't remember if--"

*blorp*

Something gelatinous starts oozing out of the ceiling between Ida and the rest of the party. She all but jumps back in surprise as a veritable fountain of ectoplasm gushes from between the creaky boards, congealing into the form of a large, green-tinted blob. "Eyes closed, ears covered!" Ida cries. Moments later, a lit flashbang sails through the air, and is enveloped by a slimy pseudopod. Wait for it...

DG: Ida Everstead-Rey has used her Tool Flare Grenade toward her party's challenge, Slimy Fate.
<Pose Tracker> Claude C. Kenny has posed.

The adventure through the bowels of a ghost ship has thus far been full of getting lost and pain, and Claude C. Kenny is not a fan of either of those things. He contents himself with munching on a small snack as they make their way through the corridors.

"Rff Whff?" he asks incoherently through a mouthful of beefsteak before he sees the flashbang go up; Claude's seen Ida use this trick before, and so he ducks his head under his arm, letting the fabric of his jacket protect his eyes from the actinic flare. He swallows hard, ears ringing, and looks up to see...

...nothing. Like, nothing at all. because Claude is approximately as magically sensitive as a bagel sandwich.

Eventually, he reaches the only possible conclusion. "GHOSTS!" Claude shouts, slamming his right fist into his left palm, the smack of the leather-bound ghost-punching gloves loud in the corridor. "I got this!" He steps forward, lifting both fists, chi surging as he prepares to engage a foe he cannot see. He throws a punch.

Then two punches.

Then four, then eight.

Claude's arms blur into flickering streaks of motion, yellow-blue motes of light trailing from his arms as he reaches 128, then doubles it once more to 256, the force of his strikes beginning to send a gust of air whooshing down the corridor. Sweat drips from Claude's face as he concentrates on the anaerobic effort, in particular because he is humming a short, strange tune* to help him focus.

* - Claude thinks** the tune is the theme to the ancient film 'Ghostbusters'
** - It is in fact Huey Lewis's 'I Want A New Drug'

DG: Claude C. Kenny has used his Tool Pocket Steak toward his party's challenge, Slimy Fate.
<Pose Tracker> Avril Vent Fleur has posed.

"I am fine, Dean. Is everyone else unhurt?" She glances, even as she pauses to steel herself, between the rest of their group.

Avril pauses just long enough to take one of the biscuits. It can't hurt to have something to eat when you're lost in a place that's haunted and only vaguely familiar.
To be granted, part two of that ('vaguely familiar') describes just about everything Avril encounters.

"Dean, would you please take a shot that that plate there? Something feels... it doesn't seem quite right." She points, helpfully, at one of the pressure plates.

So they don't run into any traps but... There's one problem with traveling in a particular direction because it feels familiar--

And that's being an amnesiac and doing that. Well, make that two problems.

Three problems, considering the slime that's come oozing on in. Lifting a hand and curling away at Ida's prompting, Avril waits all of five seconds after the light from the flashbang fades before charging in after it. One hand dips under her wrap. An arc of brilliant light comes forth shortly after, aimed for the the nearest of the etheric slimes.
Which she can apparently see quite well.

DG: Avril Vent Fleur has used her Tool Beam Whip Mode toward her party's challenge, Slimy Fate.
<Pose Tracker> Dean Stark has posed.

Cookies! Dean, being a small child at heart and also in reality, brightens when Ida offers him a biscuit. "Sure! Thanks!" he says, taking one and munching away. He has to dismiss his ARMs to do this anyway, so it's just as well that Ida suggests he maybe... *not* shoot up a ship on the water. At least he's got a cookie! Though, when Avril asks him to shoot a plate, he's happy enough to shove the rest of the biscuit into his mouth and do as she requests. The plus side: it works! The minus side: none of them have any idea where they're going.

Soon enough, or eventually enough, depending on your perspective, the group reaches another part of the boat. Dean doesn't recognize any part of it, having never been here before, but Ida seems... perturbed? Dean do you even know what perturbed means. But then slime ghosts attack! And it's terrible!!

"How can I fight if I can't see or hear?!" Dean asks as Ida gives her advice and he tries to follow her advice while also summoning his ARMs. It's not super-great. Fortunately, with Claude throwing a ridiculous number of punches and Avril summoning her beam whip, Dean has the room to actually do something. He looks around towards the elemental hexes at their feet--there's water, and wind, and-- "Aha!" he utters, running towards a red hex. "I've got your backs, guys! Take this, ghosts!!"

He punches a fist into the air, calling on the power of the copy Sword Medium he possesses. A moment later, and a concussive force set ablaze by the leyline's power roars into the slimes, potentially setting them ablaze.

DG: Dean Stark has contributed a Combat Basic Action toward his party's challenge, Slimy Fate.

<Pose Tracker> Ida Everstead-Rey has posed.

Claude might not be able to see the ghost slime, but he's punching something. Something that feels squishy, gelatinous, and unpleasantly acidic to the touch. Around punch 128, Claude lands a strike that sends the slime flying backwards, and it strikes a wall--

*splat*

And splits into two. One of them has the grenade inside it, and the other one quickly meets its end at the fate of Avril's beam whip. (She is very thorough.) Dean's literal blindfire is less than effective, but mercifully, the timbers are so waterlogged he doesn't do much more than singe them. The remaining slime gets a little scorched as well, but oozes back, and--

BANG

The grenade cooks off, and the concussive wave reduces the slime to a layer of inanimate ectoplasmic ooze.

"Glad I made note of that trick," Ida says, smiling a little. It's still a little nervous, but ghost ship. This is a nerve-wracking place to be.

<Pose Tracker> Avril Vent Fleur has posed.

The slime is divided. Then quartered. Not even the floorboards catch a mark from the energy whip, its charge dissipating as Avril takes a step backwards and breathes. She glances this way and that as if in search of further foes to fell and finds none.

"That was a good idea, Ida. I did not anticipate an attack of that nature. ...Is everyone still alright?" Her head tilts to one side, slightly.

And once again, she looks about herself as if seeking their next step. She had been leading the way, right?! And indeed, there is a door here at the end of the hall. "This is..."

Silence.

"...Unfamiliar," she finally declares, her brow furrowing faintly as if in mild consternation. "Nevertheless. Something isn't right. Is something else here...?"

Shaking her head, she approaches the door and pushes it open.

There isn't a glint per se. Just the horrible shrieeeek as a very large and sharp axe swings down from the ceiling before them, much like a bowling ball coming in for a strike.

Avril makes no sound. All she does is pull out the Medium from her skirts and urge the Guardian to help them (all) forward.

DG: Avril Vent Fleur has used her Tool Sea Medium toward her party's challenge, Sudden Guillotine.
<Pose Tracker> Claude C. Kenny has posed.

Claude C. Kenny is more than a little winded by the time everything winds down. Throwing 500 or so punches while humming is a challenge even for the most swole. "Been better," he pants when Avril asks the question. "Been wor--"

shriiiiiiek

"WHY WOULD YOU HAVE A GIANT AXE CHAIN ON A SHIP?" Claude yelps, not unreasonably, as he wall-runs from porthole to porthole. "WHY IS THIS EVEN A THING?"

DG: Claude C. Kenny has contributed a Agility Basic Action toward his party's challenge, Sudden Guillotine.
<Pose Tracker> Dean Stark has posed.

And here fire is usually effective against ghosts... Maybe because they're from the ocean, fire isn't that effective? Maybe he should've tried the wind hex... Thankfully, though, even though Dean's particular efforts don't do too much, between everyone else, they get through the battle unscathed. "Great job, guys!" he says, smiling to the others--and to Ida in particular: "You did a great job finishing 'em off! I'd've been in trouble otherwise." He rubs a finger under his nose sheepishly. Then he nods to Avril. "Yeah, I'm okay!"

Then Avril assesses their surroundings. "Unfamiliar?" Dean echoes. He considers this for a moment. "...But isn't this your first time here, Avril?" he wonders, literally only just now realizing this in the context of her attempting to lead the group. Still, someone has to do it, so when she opens a door, he follows without question.

"WAUGH!" he yelps as the axe whips down and forward with a horrible rusty shriek. In an instant, his ARMs are in his hands, and he crosses them to attempt to block the attack. Hopefully that'll give him and Avril and everyone the breathing room they need for Avril to use her Medium and get them the hell outta here. "I DON'T KNOW!!" he hollers back at Claude.

DG: Dean Stark has contributed a Agility Basic Action toward his party's challenge, Sudden Guillotine.
<Pose Tracker> Ida Everstead-Rey has posed.

Ida isn't sure what to think about the praise. On one hand, it is welcome, and on the other, it feels undeserved. "I can continue," she says. She's not 'good', precisely, but she can keep going. As Avril expresses surprise, Ida looks at her--first confused, then alarmed.

The axe falls. Ida leaps forwards, trusting in the power of the Sea Medium to buoy her up and get her out of the path of the rusty horror blade.

If not, it's not going to be pleasant.

Avril... has also perhaps had better days, but as a certain young man tends to say, well... They can't give up yet.

=Dungeon Conditions: Fright, Wound============================================
<Pose Tracker> Claude C. Kenny has posed.

Claude C. Kenny shoulders through the door and tumbles across the floor of the Captain's Quarter's, landing face-first against the desk. "Ow," he mutters, again not unreasonably; he is wobbling a fair bit as he drags himself up to his feet. He looks around and sees...

...a perfectly normal captain's quarters with nothing spooky at all! Neat!

"Oh thank God," he groans, dropping heavily into the captain's chair. He slumps forward for a bit and then reaches into his pocket, pulling out another Symbologically-preserved package of delicious steak, which he begins consuming eagerly. "Y'know, not to be pushy," he says between large mouthsful, "But your Guardian's kind of a jerk. They're almost all jerks," Claude adds. "Except for Rigdobro, he's pretty co---"

Suddenly, the floor bursts open, and tentacles wrap around Claude. "DAMN IT LUCARIO!" he snarls, then awkwardly draws his sword and tries to sever the tentacle grabbing him. He could use some help.

DG: Claude C. Kenny has used his Tool Pocket Steak toward his party's challenge, Captain's Quarters.
<Pose Tracker> Avril Vent Fleur has posed.

This could have gone better for them, perhaps. Nevertheless: here is the captain's quarters, it seems.

"Do you think so?" Avril asks, quite bluntly, tilting her head slightly to the left, as if considering this assessment of the Sea Guardian.

"I admit, I do not know how this Medium should be performing. It appears to be different from the ones that the Baskar use," she continues, lifting the strange Medium as if to briefly example its currently inert surface in the dim light of the captain's quarters.

It's entirely possible that 'in a ghost ship atop the seas' is not the best time or place for this discussion.

"--Claude!"

One hand presses the Medium against her chest. The other plunges beneath her wrap to withdraw Absolute Zero.

And pull the trigger.

She doesn't wait. Instead, she drives the sizzling arc of the whip towards the arm that's holding Claude. No warnings, no apologies.

She'll cut it down.

DG: Avril Vent Fleur has used her Tool Beam Whip Mode toward her party's challenge, Captain's Quarters.
<Pose Tracker> Ida Everstead-Rey has posed.

Ida all but collapses into the captain's quarters as Lucadia's power fades. She's breathing heavily, and her face is twisted in a mask of pain--there's a long tear in her jacket, over her right shoulder. Blood is slowly seeping into the fabric. She grits her teeth, and all but forces herself to her feet. "This is..." Ida trails off, her face going pale. The journal is still on the table. Ida still had it with her when she, Cyre, and Lemina boarded the ferry. As far as she knows, it's still in her hotel room. Why is it--

A tremor. "Oh God," Ida says. She reacts at the speed of sheer terror.

Somehow, Ida manages to grab and light a flare grenade with trembling, unsteady hands. She throws it at the Squid King without so much as a warning, and immediately dives for cover. People who are in better shape than her can take the brunt of this monstrosity's wrath.

DG: Ida Everstead-Rey has used her Tool Flare Grenade toward her party's challenge, Captain's Quarters.
<Pose Tracker> Dean Stark has posed.

Dean stares back at Avril, blankly. Like so: o_o

Translation: Why are you giving me that look, Avril?

...Sometimes it's best to put things into words.

But anyway, the axe blade snaps through the floor somewhere at their back. Dean comes along, but with nothing to push back against, he falls forward into a wall. "WAUGH--*oof*." He stumbles around and forward then with the others into the captain's quarters. "They're not so bad!" he protests to Claude. "I mean, yeah, they're really rude and kind of mean, but they're hurting, and people sometimes just get mean when they're hurting--woah, treasure!" That would be Dean actually noticing the contents of the room and jogging forward to take a better look.

He totally doesn't notice the bloody captain's log. Someone else is going to have to catch that plot thread. But there's gold, jewels, maps, globes... all kinds of interesting stuff! "I wonder if they've got any stuff on that Golem here?" he wonders, shoving the gold and jewels aside to search for some kind of Golem plans, because it's Dean and that's what he considers valuable, bless his dumb heart.

But then the ship starts rumbling, and Dean looks up and around in alarm. "Wh-what's that?" he says, looking to Ida for cues--and she looks *terrified*. For good reason, too: more of those tentacles burst through, followed by the SQUID KING itself. Dean screams, then roars, Twin Fenrir flashing into his hands. "Don't you know not to scare people like that?!" he demands of the Squid King. "And let go of Claude!! What'd he ever do to you?!"

WHAM WHAM WHAM WHAM, go the combat rods on the tentacle gripping Claude like he's the star of the next hit slash film, wink wink.

For a moment, it seems like things are going to be okay. For a moment.

Claude C. Kenny manages to get his sword free, and has positioned it to begin sawing through the tentacle. Ida is moving to cover. Then Avril sends her arm forward, and Absolute Zero slices through the tentacle in a cut so clean that the tentacle appears to be unharmed. For a moment.

This is when things start to go a little wrong, because Dean starts pounding on the tentacle, which is no longer attached to the squid, but is still attached to Claude. This results in a lot of strangled screams and a few rods bouncing half off of severed tentacle and half off of Claude's head. He slumps to the floor.

The Squid King then hauls its wounded tentacle back, blood spraying out to knock poor Dean into the table Ida had been hiding behind...at which point a third tentacle comes through the wall and smashes through their cover. The tentacles withdraw, and Claude groans a lot.

Avril is still standing. GOOD LUCK!

<Pose Tracker> Avril Vent Fleur has posed.

For a moment, it's far from a sure encounter, but the odds seem to be on their side as they bring their force to bear against the assault of the Squid King.

Absolute Zero cuts neatly through the tentacle clutching Claude--

And a great many things go horribly wrong, all in one moment. "Dean! Ida--"

"Claude?"

Blue eyes narrow, and Avril takes one step forward, laser whip still sizzling in the air, as if intent on facing it alone.

All at once, the tentacles retreat, and it becomes quite clear why.

...The ship is starting to sink, the pitch and sway unmistakable... not to mention the very definite leak that's going on in here.
Charge on Absolute Zero finally gutting out, she wastes little time, hurrying to her allies to try to get them back on their feet one at a time. "Please, try to stand... We must not remain here..."

The Medium shines. No invocation of speed comes forth this time, just healing arcana, invoked from the wellspring of the Guardian's power.

Grabbing anything that looks promising -- like, oh, manifests or things that might mention Golem whereabouts -- comes at a remove, but should the opportunity present itself as Avril attempts to get everyone up and out of a ship that's starting to go down (and they do have a ways to climb unless they're all very good swimmers), well...
Some chances should not be denied.

One step in the wrong direction and it's over. A large pipe in the wall
suddenly sucks the air out of the room - and with it, the party - hurling
everyone out into the sea. Exhausted as you are, perhaps it was a good thing
that the old emergency pump still functioned, though you wonder why it
needed to be so big as to be able to suck and launch people out like that.
It could be worse, all things considered.
=Dungeon Conditions: Treasure=================================================
<Pose Tracker> Avril Vent Fleur has posed.

But the chance does not arrive. They don't even close on the route leading up to the deck before the water catches up to them. Only the presence of a helpful pipe prevents them from getting trapped somewhere in the depths of the sinking ghost ship.

...Hopefully everyone can swim, because there's only one way forward and it's up to the surface of the sea.

Avril gasps as she breaches the surface, Lucadia's Medium still clutched tight against her chest.

"Is everyone alright...? Has that squid returned?"

...Making for the shore might also be a good plan.

<Pose Tracker> Claude C. Kenny has posed.

Claude floats up to the surface. Thanks, stupidly advanced Federation uniform! "Well, I'm not dead, so that's a plus," he says weakly.

......

"On the downside, I think a fish swimmed in my pants."

....

"...I really hope it was a fish."

<Pose Tracker> Dean Stark has posed.

Dean cannot swim. This is known--if not previously, then it sure is now.

Fortunately, after a moment of bubbles, he floats up on a plank of the sinking ship that had broken off and, by sheer coincidence, floated up beneath his sinking body and carried him back to the surface with it.

"hrrrblkbrlhbrh," he wheezes weakly.

<Pose Tracker> Ida Everstead-Rey has posed.

The next few minutes are a confusing, terrifying blur of creaking, cracking timbers and rushing water and pain. A tidal wave rushes down the corridor, sweeping her off her feet--and then something else grabs her, pitching her out into the water. When she regains her bearings, she's bobbing on the surface next to Dean, having grabbed the same plank in a blind, mad scrabble for anything that would float. She spends a good five minutes just trying to catch her breath. She looks absolutely wretched, and she's bleeding, but she's alive.
