  • Cutscene: The Legendary Cucco
  • Cast: Riesenlied, Mikaia (NPC)
  • Where: Wayside
  • Date: 10th January 2018
  • Summary: Mikaia turns in for a bedtime story. But Riesenlied is enamored with one story over others...

Mikaia rubs her eyes as she rinses and spits her water out, putting her terrier-ended toothbrush on the glass beside the sink. She waddles out with a smile as she says, "Mama, I brushed my teeth!"

Riesenlied is seated on the bed, dressed in her fluffy cucco-print pajamas and nightcap as she expresses, "That's a really good girl. Should I tell you a bedtime story?"

Mikaia's eyes light up as she expresses, "Yes, yes, please! I want, uh..." Her eyes scan over the small rack of books over their queen-sized bed.

The Three Little Drifters...
The Hidden Treasure of Captain Aifread...
The Shaman, the Dog and the Magic Wand...
And... The Legendary Cucco--

Mikaia pauses as she positively feels her mother's eyes light up as she scans over that book. It was as if there was unspoken 'that one, that one!' despite the fact that she's heard the story over and over again.

She smiles quietly, precocious for her age as she says, "Tell me the story of the Legendary Cucco again!"

"Aah, I'd be happy to...!" Riesenlied sounds so overjoyed Mikaia can't help it. Isn't the child supposed to pick the book? But mama looks so happy...

Riesenlied turns the page and clears her throat, as Mikaia snuggles to her side.

"A long long time ago, in a land far far away,

The Cucco Vidopnir lived in a magic tree's gentle sway.
The tree was huge! To the heavens its branches reach,
And in its many boughs span the sky-realms each.
Many Drifters heard, whoever could reach the tippy top
of the magic tree would be granted a wish with no stop.
These fellows dreamt of riches, high and piled!
They spread the stories to wife, mother and child.
But Vidopnir stood boldly in the Drifters' way,
And no sword or ARM could lead her astray!
Vidopnir patiently said, voice carried in the wind,
'If thou desire passage, then Laevateinn thee shall find!'
The Laevateinn! A sword of miracles foretold.
The Drifters chased rumors till they spent their gold.
But no matter high or low the Drifters sought,
No word did show the magic sword's spot.
Nay, in the end, the sky-realm was in great peace.
For the truth, only fair Vidopnir knew apiece.
Laevateinn was no magic sword. A damaged twig
was its form, sprouting where others sought big.
Let this be a lesson to you, young Drifter.
The treasures that make your eyes glitter
May not be what you truly desire.
Let not greed lead you to the pyre."

Riesenlied sighs and smiles, expressing, "The end...! Aah, Vidopnir is always so wise...~" as she cuddles the book, her horns wiggling up and down in pleasure.

A pause, as she looks down towards Mikaia, who's cuddled and fallen asleep at her side... though whether or not it's because the story was riveting or because she's heard it so much she just opted to go to bed...

Now that's another story, is it not?
