  • Log: In All Seweriousness
  • Cast: Dean Stark, Yarobeleedt, Fei Fong Wong, Malfi
  • Where: Meribia - Sewers
  • Date:2018-06-20
  • Summary: Two humans and two Metal Demons walk into a sewer, where they discover...see for yourself!

============================<* Meribia - Sewers *>============================

Visitors to the sewers of Meribia are advised to keep their torches well lit, for their halls are dark and full of terrors. Blue Master Lunn offers a healthy bounty for monsters, but while martial arts students regularly delve into the catacombs, they never seem quite able to wipe them out entirely.

DG: Fei Fong Wong has left your party.
DG: A party led by Dean Stark is now entering Meribia Sewers.
DG: Party formation is now over. An Entry Challenge will now be drawn and displayed to the party.

|Type: Entry |Dungeon Ability: Wits |Challenge Rating: 1 |
---------------------------< Challenge Information: >---------------------------
Meribia is an old city, and its sewer system rests atop multiple layers of
urban construction. Finding grates and storm drains is easy, but finding a
point of entry large enough to accomodate your group is more challenging.
Finding a /safe/ access point is even more challenging. Whether you talk
with townsfolk, consult old maps, or study the lay of the land, you're going
to have to locate an entrance that's still accessible before you go any
 further.

<Pose Tracker> Dean Stark has posed.

"Aw, dang it! I dropped my keys...!"

That's the cry that brings Dean peering in dismay down a sewer grate in Meribia. He and Fei had been about to head to his inn room to get dinner in and chat enthusiastically about Golems (and maybe other things but it's Dean so GOLEMS), but they can't very well do that if his keys to the room are in the sewers!

"There's gotta be a way down there to get them," he says to his friend. "I remember cutting through them once the first time I came here--there was an entrance over in the Merchant's District, and I bet I can probably find it again." With lots of time, maybe, but he should be able to find it. It might require shooting some rubber bullets at plates in the street to get the entrance to come undone, though. Regardless: "Sorry to have to ask you this, Fei, but could you help me out? Though if you don't want to, that's okay!" Dean kicks the sewer grate and gives him a rueful smile. "It *was* my bad for dropping them down there in the first place. Of all the bad luck, huh?"

DG: Dean Stark has used his Tool Standard Cartridge toward his party's challenge, Find an Entrance.
<Pose Tracker> Yarobeleedt has posed.

All sorts of nasty, lowly things lurk down in the sewers. Take this snake that has had the displeasure of being stuck there. Unable to aspire to much more than its station, it slithers through the dank depths of society's waste.
Then suddenly there is a much larger snake-bug-slug-thing whom gurgles and wheezes. Every movement is a concentrated effort. He's still starving. Turns out trying to eat quarry rocks didn't quite hit the spot, and then a bunch of humans chased him off anyway because they're cowardly and only want to attack him at his weakest...!
Something jingly bounces off his head. He squeals as he covers his head underneath his arms. One of his forearms part open so he can see through it.
...Shiny, tiny thin strips of metal. He salivates. So hungry... so very hungry...!
He's on those keys like bottled (well, flushed) lightning, lifting them up and spinning them on one end of a malformed nail-talon-weapon...
...And he becomes conflicted. For all his starving and his probably being at death's door if this keeps up, he's still picky. He likes his food all soft and pasty and squishy! These thin metal sticks are too stiff and stale. :(
Conflicted and worried, Yarobeleedt continues spinning the keys. Dean and Fei above will get to hear loud jingling beneath. That's how they can track it down and know that yes, there is a fine, fine reason to go jumping into gross sewers again.

DG: Yarobeleedt has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward its party's challenge, Find an Entrance.
<Pose Tracker> Fei Fong Wong has posed.

"What..what are they keys for?" Fei asks, possibly considering maybe they just abandon the keys and whatever they go to as he thinks back to his last adventure down a sewer.

Fei laughs awkwardly as he draws out an old map of his. "There should be a way down around--here." He taps at the map with a finger to show Dean where he entered last time.

He squints down. Does some creature HAVE the keys? It could be a fight. He better stick with Dean anyway in case something dangerous is down there.

REDRUM REDRUM REDRUM REDRUM REDRUM

Fei shakes his head. But not that ha ha ha definitely nots a Wels ha ha ha ha ha!!

"Anyway I'll be happy to help." Fei says, smiling broadly.

DG: Fei Fong Wong has used his Tool Artist's Toolkit toward his party's challenge, Find an Entrance.
<Pose Tracker> Malfi has posed.

A figure approaches behind Dean and Fei, nearly seven feet tall and golden as a glowing candle. "DEAN?? What are YOU doing here?" it asks, and Dean probably recognizes Malfi. The odds of running into her only human friend, here in the sewers, is infinitesimal. It might even be enough to force Malfi to reevaluate her disbelief in Fate. Malfi, you see, is here seeking the unusual monsters rumored to live in the sewers...and she is actively scanning in there.
Yep. There are monsters down below, all right! And her scanner must be malfunctioning, because one of them seems to have Hyadean lifesigns...

DG: Malfi has used her Tool Portable Scanner toward her party's challenge, Find an Entrance.

DG: The party led by Dean Stark has passed this challenge! The party gained 20 exploration! If anyone needs to use party
management commands, do so now. Otherwise, the next round's GM may begin the next round with +dungeon/draw.
<Pose Tracker> Dean Stark has posed.

"To, uh... to my room at the inn," Dean says, abashed, as he rubs the back of his neck. "And I don't think Rebecca or Avril are in right now, either... You see, they were gonna go out and--" But before Dean can explain just what Rebecca and Avril are up to, something jingles down in the sewer. Dean blinks, then looks back down into the grate. And... something is twirling his keychain!!

"Wh--hey, those are my keys!!" This time, the cadence in Dean's voice is one of outrage. He looks back over to Fei's map when he points out the entrance, then gives him a fierce nod and smile. "Thanks, Fei! I'm glad I could count on you! Now c'mon, let's get down there before whatever-that-is makes off with them!!"

Fortunately, the entrance isn't that far away. And once Dean and Fei are down in the sewers proper...

        'Dean?!'

Dean blinks at the Hyadean, craning his neck up to see her face. "Malfi?! Hey! It's been ages! Good to see you're doing okay!" he says, giving her a friendly smile. His smile soon fades, though. "I dropped my keys in the sewer, and a monster picked them up! My friend here and I are trying to find them. You haven't seen a big..." He gestures widely with his arms as he attempts to find the words. "Weird-looking blob kinda thing with long nails, have you?"

He does not seem particularly shocked to see her on Lunar. Well, why not? She's hardly the first Metal Demon he's run into here.

"Oh, by the way," he adds, turning from one to the other and back again, "Fei, this is Malfi; Malfi, this is Fei."

DG: Yarobeleedt has drawn a new Challenge.

|Type: Exploration |Dungeon Ability: Wits |Challenge Rating: 2 |
-----------------------------------------------< Challenge Information: >-----------------------------------------------
It looks like the small room up ahead was an incinerator at one point,
judging by the heat emanating from chipped, faded runes on the walls.
Unfortunately, in their present state, all they're doing is making the room
uncomfortably hot, to say nothing of the /smell/ from what must be years'
worth of accumulated trash. You might be able to restore them, sort of, with
a little work--and then incinerate the garbage blocking your path.
=Dungeon Conditions: Reckless, Exhaust========================================
<Pose Tracker> Yarobeleedt has posed.

The Yellow-Bellied Garbler (this may or may not be his actual species name according to casual observation by Lunarian children) screeches as he's shouted at over keys. The startling sees the keychain fly right out of his grasp at an arc that just sails over anyone's heads as this figure beats a hasty, hasty retreat in the other direction.
The keys keep bouncing across the features of this part of the sewers until it comes into rest in a small chamber ahead. A small chamber that's very, very hot. Worn-out runes decorating the walls continue their toil in vain, unless they have taken up a new vocation in just making things hot enough to make everything else caught in here smell THAT MUCH WORSE. It sucks.
The proper exit to this place, marked by a barely-visible doorframe, is hidden behind garbage too big to move. Maybe if they fixed the crests - shined them up all nicely and stuff - it'll burn away the garbage and then they can work out how they're going to leave once they find Dean's keychain.
        If it can be found.

DG: Yarobeleedt has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward its party's challenge, Hot Garbage.
<Pose Tracker> Fei Fong Wong has posed.

Fei's expression is a bit deadpan as Dean explains that they're just the key to his inn room rather than to someting truly incredible, like a monowheel. But he does eventually ease up with a small smile, "Well, we can't trouble the inn I guess."

Eventually of course they do come upon the sewer entrance. Fei stalls as he looks back towards Malfi. Malfi may not recognize Fei but Fei definitely recognizes Malfi.

"You--" He begins. "....You're one of the Metal Demons. Dean how did you--"

Fei looks at Dean's face.

Fei looks at Dean's face, but this time with less determination and more realization and resignation as if asking a whirlwind 'why' does it 'wind'.

But he does finish his statement. "How do you know...Malfi?" Fei asks.

Fei offers some facemasks designed from protecting one from paint fumes towards Dean and himself, Malfi can grab one too if she'd like before he straps one on himself.

DG: Fei Fong Wong has used his Tool Artist's Toolkit toward his party's challenge, Hot Garbage.
<Pose Tracker> Malfi has posed.

"Pleasure to meet you, Fei," Malfi murmurs as she picks her way into the garbage chamber, nose wrinkling in distaste. It's not like she hasn't smelled worse in her monster stables, but she's grateful for the mask Fei offers, which she takes.
She sweeps her scanner over the area -- and the Hyadean lifesigns are still showing up! It just has to be...
"Yarobeleedt. So you survived the battle." Of all of her brethren, why did it have to be Yarobeleedt who showed up right now? She surveys the runes but has no idea what to do with them.
She chuckles when she hears Fei's question. "That's kind of a long story!"

DG: Malfi has used her Tool Portable Scanner toward her party's challenge, Hot Garbage.
<Pose Tracker> Fei Fong Wong has posed.

"Yes, well," Fei says. "We are in a sewer."

<Pose Tracker> Yarobeleedt has posed.

slowly in the meantime

<Pose Tracker> Dean Stark has posed.

A monowheel!? Where do you think they are, Filgaia?! No, Dean doesn't have something that COOL or AWESOME or AMAZING just yet. Maybe once they return to their homeworld. Anyway, you should try to recover your possessions when you lose them. That's his philosophy, anyway.

Dean introduces Fei to Malfi. Fei stares at him. Dean blinks back. Then he looks back at Malfi as she comments on... "Yaroba-what? Is that the--" SCREECH. That would be the creature HURLING HIS KEYS OVER THEIR HEADS, EVEN MALFI'S HEAD, INTO A GARBAGE-BURNING PIT, while dashing off into the other direction. Dean makes a face... but hey, at least he doesn't have to fight it to get his keys back.

"Oh, it's not that long," Dean says, nodding to Malfi and Fei in turn as he jogs towards the heated chamber that his keys ended up in. "Basically, there was this big fight at the Guardian Temple, and me and Malfi fought, and then these other guys showed up and started blowing up the battlefield, and Malfi was hurt so I pulled her someplace safe before I ran to get Avril and Rebecca. And that's it!"

...One can perhaps *feel* the long story lurking there in Dean's summary, much like one feels a pebble in one's shoe. And once they end up actually in that chamber... "Ugh, it smells so bad!!" Lucky-ish for Dean, his long scarf means he's got something he can just pull right up over his face, and with that combined with the mask Fei offers him, it turns the smell from 'truly rank' to a mere 'gross.'

"Thanks," he tells his friend. "Okay, where did those keys fall?" So he says before... trying to find them among the garbage. But there's just *so much* garbage...!! Maybe if they burned the trash away, they'd be able to find the keys left behind?

        ...

Looking at the runes on the walls, Dean says fatefully, "Hey, what do those do?"

        Some time later...!?

<Pose Tracker> Dean Stark has posed.

Looking at the runes on the walls, which sure look like they might be activatable via brief, concentrated percussive force from a reasonable distance, Dean says fatefully, "Hey, what do those do?"

        Some time later...!?

DG: Dean Stark has used his Tool Standard Cartridge toward his party's challenge, Hot Garbage.

==================<* CHALLENGE - Untrustworthy Platforms *>===================
|Type: Exploration |Dungeon Ability: Agility |Challenge Rating: 1 |
--------------------------< Challenge Information: >--------------------------
A fast-flowing river of sewage bisects the tunnel up ahead. It looks like it
might be carrying wastewater from a major thoroughfare, and it's wide enough
that you can't easily jump across. Someone has chained a series of
rickety-looking metal platforms to the ceiling, and if you're nimble, you
can use them to get across. Be careful, though, since they'll start swinging
and wobbling as soon as any weight is put on them, and one wrong move could
 dump you into the sewage.
=Dungeon Conditions: Slow=====================================================
<Pose Tracker> Yarobeleedt has posed.

Malfi's lament is palpable. To be stranded on Lunar, so far away from the world she is trying to conquer, only to now know that she is also joined by something like Yarobeleedt. It's cruel, isn't it? She may not be a sorcerer of any stripe, but her scanner does pick up energy readings from the crests at all. It sort of resembles a heat trap one would use to burn away lesser organic creatures who couldn't withstand it.
Fei's passed-about facemasks help ensure they don't breathe any of that in. It's good on him to think of helping prevent the spread of disease and other extraordinarily foul discomforts as they root around the garbage.
When Dean shoots the crests, they start to flash and glow hotter. This is kind of a bad idea, maybe, so of course they all get shot. The entire room becomes wicked hot! The trash all smolders and burns as it disintegrates to nothing. Oh no, the keys...!
...The keys are okay! For some reason they're the only thing that survive the trash burning, maybe because they're made of metal..! Just as the crests start to die down and make it safe to approach...
...it seems as though the built-up garbage was also blocking a water flow, which just scoops up the keys and carries it downstream to some other part of the sewer.
        This makes perfect sense.
From behind them, Yarobeleedt peeks. "^Creature Creature^ is...?!" He doesn't finish the thought. She must also be starving. She's going to eat his food!! He slithers from the shadows at a safe enough distance, equal parts worried and upset.
That's right, this is the first indication he's seeing another living Metal Demon like himself, and the only thing he can think about is about his own empty gullet.

<Pose Tracker> Malfi has posed.

Malfi peeks up at the rickety platforms, then down to the river of stinking sludge. Then up at the platforms, then back at the sludge. It's no contest, really. Maybe she can use her rope to make some of the platforms steadier -- though of course that means climbing up there to secure them. What was supposed to be a simple, quick jaunt into the sewers to gather data is rapidly becoming more complicated...
She peers around for Yarobeleedt, who's hanging back for some reason. She'll try the ropes, but first...first, coffee! At least SOMETHING will smell good around here! Lunar has excellent coffee. "Anybody else want some?" she asks, proffering her flask.

DG: Malfi has used her Tool Blackest Coffee toward her party's challenge, Untrustworthy Platforms.
<Pose Tracker> Fei Fong Wong has posed.

Monowheels should always be hotly anticipated. They are officially the best and there's no good reason for Lunar to have them. All the time.

He listens to Dean's tale and if that really is the long and short of it, Fei isn't sure that is friendship so much as a lack of sociopathy. Fei looks distinctly concerned, particularly at the vagueness of 'other guys' blowing stuff up. Were there others besides Kislev and Aveh or is Dean just...ignorant of the forever war? Fei supposes he could understand. Stuff like that is probably far removed from his normal life.

"I mostly know her as someone who tried to break my gear and made me activate the New User Training Module which was pretty trippy."

chu.

It probably would be smarter of Fei to not comment on this and thus give Malfi information but Fei isn't known to be a smarty when it comes to this sort of thing. Instead he sizes Malfi up once more and adds, "But any friend of Dean's is a friend of mine. Bygones being bygones is fine with me."

Of course thats when the group come upon a river of sewage with platforms just far enough apart that one could try jumping them.

"Sounds like this shouldn't be too hard," Fei says before he starts hopping. "w...woah! These platforms aren't stable!"

His social link isn't high enough with Malfi to borrow her coffee.

DG: Fei Fong Wong has contributed a Agility Basic Action toward his party's challenge, Untrustworthy Platforms.
<Pose Tracker> Malfi has posed.

Fei had a Gear? Malfi frowns, trying to remember the Gears she's fought. The most difficult one was "Orca," and she'd've killed the pilot if Epsilon hadn't urgently needed healing. She decides not to mention that, just in case Fei HAD been the one guiding Orca. The humans, she was learning, were tougher and more resourceful than they looked -- and plenty of 'em could do magic, too!

<Pose Tracker> Yarobeleedt has posed.

Yarobeleedt wastes no time just letting himself sink to new depths. In this instance, it's more literal, as he dunks himself into the flowing wastewater river. "Fufufu... ^Creature Creature^ think smart? Smart to play human for food? So low!" Mutters the critter who is swimming in filth. It's true, though, this is how he can speed past them and get on ahead--
Then Fei hops on one of the platforms, and it tips and creaks. It dips low enough that Yarobeleedt slams into the bottom of this platform with a muted shriek and a wet splat.
He'll be stuck there for a while.

DG: Yarobeleedt has contributed a Agility Basic Action toward its party's challenge, Untrustworthy Platforms.
<Pose Tracker> Dean Stark has posed.

Dean isn't precisely *ignorant* of the forever war. But, as Fei muses, it's pretty far removed from his life. He'd be hard-pressed to tell you who exactly is *involved* in that war, let alone which side ended up shooting at the Drifters and Metal Demons fighting at the steps of the Guardian Temple. He knows that the Golem Sado was there and it was AWESOME and SUPER STRONG and also being used as a horrific WMD which is really sad when he lets himself think about it; that's about as much as he knows about the Gebler-Aveh conflict.

Considering he took one of the Gears left behind on the battlefield, he really probably should learn more. But that's an adventure for another day!

The fiery runes come alight! The garbage burns, leaving behind the metal keys! Dean spots them, lights up, and jogs over to pick them up! And...!!

"AW COME ON!" he yells as a sudden water water flow scoops up the keys, conveniently deposits them on a scrap of wood the water had brought with itself so they float, and carries them downstream. Into sewage.

Well he's not about to give up now!!

Grumbling, Dean gets distracted first by Malfi's offer of coffee, which *does* smell really nice, and then by Fei revealing how *he* knows Malfi. "Oh, yeah, Malfi's really strong," he says matter-of-fact. "If we'd had to fight any longer, I don't know how it would've turned out for me." He smiles when Fei offers bygones to Malfi, then nods to the Hyadean. "Sure, thanks! That smells really nice!"

Too bad it's SUPER BITTER. Dean makes a face, attributes it to the stink of garbage messing with his sense of taste, gives the flask back to Malfi, and concentrates on the metal platforms. "Leave this to me," he says to the others, summoning his paired ARMs into his hands. This might be interesting to Malfi, now that she can see them again; they're VERY advanced for something a human's using, possibly even Zeboim-era. And... did they literally just flash into existence...?

Then Dean raises one of the two pistols and fires an ice beam up at the metal platforms, which should hopefully freeze them solid and stabilize them enough for the three to traverse them safely. (And if Yaro jumped up onto the underside of the platform *before* Dean shot that Freeze Ray, he'll definitely be stuck there for a while. Whoops.) Definitely not your typical ARM ability, either.

DG: Dean Stark has used his Tool Freeze Ray toward his party's challenge, Untrustworthy Platforms.

<Pose Tracker> Fei Fong Wong has posed.

It turns out that a freeze ray makes crossing a river easy! How about that! Yaro may comically get stuck to the ice for a bit, or not.

Fei awkwardly ceases his platform hopping to just walk across it under his own power. He is a steady enough martial artist that he doesn't seem to have trouble just walking across the slippery surface though it is somewhat slippery. Dean is likely used to it himself, though!

"So you were fighting each other first?" Fei asks. Is Id flipping out at Dean in his head? Perhaps he is.

<Pose Tracker> Malfi has posed.

Malfi nods, as she pauses crossing the frozen river of yuck. "We were doing our best to kill each other."

<Pose Tracker> Yarobeleedt has posed.

Yaro whimpers audibly as he is encased under a chunk of ice. Ice doesn't whimper audibly, so it must be imagined, and so the ochre slug-naga-jerk-whatever chills out for a while.

<Pose Tracker> Fei Fong Wong has posed.

Fei sighs faintly at Malfi's response. "Yeah," Fei says after a long moment. "I guess that's what friendship is to most metal demons."

He sounds more depressed than angry.

DG: Malfi has drawn a new Challenge.

=================<* CHALLENGE - Why Is It Called Gunfoot? *>==================
|Type: Exploration |Dungeon Ability: Combat |Challenge Rating: 1 |
--------------------------< Challenge Information: >--------------------------
A blue light glows in the darkness up ahead, before resolving into a roughly
head-sized sphere. A moment later, a beam of brilliant blue light lances out
at your party, illuminating its source--a hunchbacked, vaguely-humanoid
figure with a beam-firing aperture where its head should be. It's called a
Gunfoot, and it was presumably named such by someone who didn't actually see
it. It's not happy to see you.
=Dungeon Conditions: Wound====================================================
<Pose Tracker> Malfi has posed.

A spear of light emanates from the Gunfoot, narrowly missing Fei, then a second and a third, missing Malfi and Dean respectively. The creature lives in darkness; it must take some time to adapt to the light, meager though it is. It is advancing on the party, vision adjusting fast, and its next lasers are unlikely to miss! Time to fight or flee!

<Pose Tracker> Dean Stark has posed.

Dean is indeed used to the ice from his Freeze Ray! He crosses it with ease, like a goat climbing a mountain to serve its craving for that mineral. Yaro whimpers underfoot. Dean looks around, but seeing nothing as he crosses, shrugs and chalks it up to his imagination.

"Hey, I wasn't trying to *kill* you," he protests at Malfi as they reach the other side. "I just wanted you and the other Hyadeans to stop attacking the Temple! My friends and me were worried you guys'd be after the nearby town next." Which might make sense to Malfi in retrospect. If Dean had wanted her dead, then why would he have pulled her to safety when Gebler showed up?

Fei remarks on Metal Demon friendship, sounding depressed. Dean blinks at him, but before he can ask about it--incoming Gunfoot! "Woah!!" he utters as the monster appears, opening fire on the group. Fortunately, that opening volley whiffs, meaning they've got the chance to counter!

"Out of our way! I don't have time to deal with you!" he shouts--his keys are drifting further and further down the sewage line! Twin Fenrir reappears in his hands, combat rods extending from the handles of the pistols, and Dean charges towards it, aiming to whallop the monster with a pair of mighty whacks!

DG: Dean Stark has contributed a Combat Basic Action toward his party's challenge, Why Is It Called Gunfoot?.
<Pose Tracker> Malfi has posed.

"You could've fooled me -- at the time!" Malfi calls to Dean as she readies her lance. She lunges at the Gunfoot, attempting to jab right where its head would be (if it had one)...

DG: Malfi has contributed a Combat Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Why Is It Called Gunfoot?.
<Pose Tracker> Yarobeleedt has posed.

Somewhere in that volley of laser fire, Yarobeleedt has managed to break free from his icy prison. This may be a subject of some serious debate on the internet in the years that follow the game's conclusion as to whether this was evidence of cut content that took away what let him loose.
The wormy coward does not move in to participate. This is mostly because he is starving. It is difficult for him to manifest weapon-arms of sufficient bulk without them being brittle, for how little mineral content he presently has been able to ingest. His anger, on the other hand, is plenty able to subside on regurgitating itself back and forth.
"^Creature Creature^ fight with human like human like them?" He asks, raspy, too far off to be heard. A shiny, colorful, rubbery thing seems to rest between his grasp. It looks like a cartoonish effigy of Stare Roe, the Guardian of Light.
He squeezes it between his arms, one a limp and bony fist. The other, a dulled, knobby blade.

        *squeak*
"Give up because far off? Not close on??" *squeak* *squeak*
Yarobeleedt's mumbling and other nonsense is lost as he continues pressing his limbs up against the effigy of Stare Roe. It should have punctured and flattened several times over already. It has not. *squeak* *squeak* *squeak*
THIS SQUEAKING IS SO ANNOYING AND IT IS ECHOING THROUGHOUT THE TUNNEL IS IT THE GUNFOOT CAUSING THE SQUEAKING?? AAAAAAAAH KILL IT SO IT STOPS SQUEAKING

Fei jerks back at the last millisecond to avoid getting a laser blast scorched in his hide. "Ghh..always interuptions!!" He says, swerving on one foot to size up the Gunfoot. He reaches slowly towards his pocket.

Fei blinks twice and shakes his head as he draws out his RPS Badge and flings it into the air to draw the Gunfoot's attention as he charges it on foot.

  • squeak

"gh---!" Fei drops down into a slide tackle, intending to crash right into the Gunfoot before it can unleash another shot!

  • squeak*

"It's fine Fei." Fei tells himself. "Nothing worth losing your cool *twitch* over..."

You've stumbled across a room that looks like some sort of overflow tank--it
has a high ceiling, and its walls are ringed with wastewater outlets.
There's a door on the other side, but the only way to get to it is to cross
a series of sturdy-looking stone pillars.

This would be much easier, if not for what happens next. The door slams
behind you, the platform you're standing on starts to retract, and masked,
black-garbed assailants leap down from pools of shadow on the ceiling.
They're extremely agile, and fight bare-handed, bringing devastating martial
arts to bear. The one mercy is that they do not fight to the death, choosing
to retreat if the tide turns against them.
=Dungeon Conditions: Wound====================================================
<Pose Tracker> Yarobeleedt has posed.

Dean and his friends can see a glint of metal just a ways ahead. It's a better-lit chamber than the dank tunnels they've been through. They can hear the rushing of wastewater pooling into the overflow tank below. The place has a high ceiling, and a door on the other end of the narrow walkway leads to the way out.
More importantly, though, keychain! It's right there! It smells awful! But it's still shiny, and it can be safely sec--
"It is dig!!" ...Huh? This shrill yelling precludes a large yellowish thing hurling themselves ahead on top of the keys. For those who recognize what they're seeing, this one looks... more than a bit emanciated. There's a better picture of where this creature actually does have solid bones. Poisonous saliva drips out the side of a tongue that lolls out the side of their mouth, their breath heavy.
"Mine, mine!" Oh, that's what 'dig' was meant to be. "Is food...! ...Fufufu. ^Creature Creature^ is too fat!! Give to Yarobeleedt..." OH HE WENT THERE
Then, suddenly, his back arches up as a shriek is cut-off half-way. He slumps down onto his side, twitching. Behind him...
Pools of shadow? No! People dressed in dark clothes. Their features cannot be made out. One has an extended left palm from where they struck Yarobeleedt in the back. The others make a show of it with a series of sweeping, lifting kicks to hurl Yarobeleedt off the side.
The keys are still on the ground. Maybe if they ask nicely--
Nope, they're not letting the three of them have a break, as they start to throw forth kung-fu moves the likes of which might even get a few clean hits on Fei. Relentless. Precise. Deadly.
        *squeak*
Oh, also they're kicking a rubbery thing that kinda looks like Stare Roe underfoot, but that seems to be an accident. An accident that provides an unwelcome squeaking percussion line to the fast-paced song and dance of life and death.

DG: Yarobeleedt has used its Tool Toy Guardian toward its party's challenge, Platform Fight.
<Pose Tracker> Dean Stark has posed.

"Hey, I couldn't exactly go easy on you!" Dean calls back to Malfi. Id will probably be infuriated to hear a hint of a laugh in his voice. Or maybe he'll just be infuriated by that GODDAMN SQUEAKING. It's certainly getting on *Dean's* nerves. Just a few *squeak*s, and: "Arrrgh, cut that out already!!" WHAM.

The Gunfoot is no match for the three of them, especially as irritated as they are by the wheezy toy, not that they know that's at fault. Once it breaks apart into motes of light, Dean charges past it. "C'mon, just a little bit further ahead!" he calls to the others.

And indeed, the next room over, there's an overflow tank. The piece of wood with the keys snagged on spills out of one of the wastewater outlets, plopping disgustingly in front of a door on the other side of the room. No problem, even if there *are* pillars in the way. Except--

'Mine, mine!' "HEY! Those are MY keys!!" Dean yells at Yaro, who pounces back in out of *nowhere* on top of his keys. What's he even talking about, it's food?! They're keys! You don't eat keys! Falling into a combat stance, he concludes, "Give 'em back already!!"

And so the Drifters enter into an epic confrontation against the Metal Demon, testing Malfi's loyaties when she must choose between her companiosn and her brethren! ...or that *might* have happened, except (double except)--

        *SLAM*

"Huh?!" Dean utters, whirling around to see the door slam behind him and his companions. "What was that--"

        And then ninjas happen.

"OH COME ON!!!" the blue-haired young man roars as suddenly he has to move as fast as possible to both avoid getting struck down by and also whack a bunch of nimble weirdos in black pajamas with killer hands. And they squeak too, the jerks!!

DG: Dean Stark has contributed a Combat Basic Action toward his party's challenge, Platform Fight.
<Pose Tracker> Malfi has posed.

Malfi growls at Yarobeleedt, then takes her irritation out on the attacking sewer ninjas. It's true, alas: the human fare she's been forced to subsist on is rather fattening. Her anger makes her even deadlier than usual, though in the process she manages to throw several of the ninjas into the overflow tank, yuck. Maybe that'll sap their will to fight. "What ARE you???" one of them strains to gasp. She doesn't deign to answer.

It's too much. The endless, cramped corridors, the pestilent local wildlife,
the /smell/--it's too much. Your group hightails it to the nearest access
point, and after a few minutes, you're back on the streets of Meribia. You
smell awful, and you're bound to get stares from passers-by until you clean
up, but at least you're alive.

<Pose Tracker> Yarobeleedt has posed.

Malfi doesn't have as much luck throwing them over the sides as she might think. These humans are far more skilled. Some twist about free from her grasp. Others are able to shift their mid-air momentum to stop themselves from flying off. All of them involved kick her ass. It's through and elegant in ways Kalve might come to appreciate witnessing for himself... if he's anywhere around here on this planet.
Dean doesn't have much luck either. They have no experience for the kind of weapon where one swings around rods on weird over-long curvy handles, but this only stops maybe one or two from rabbit punching him. When one forces him to the ground, he has a moment to grab the keychain - the reason they're here to begin with. The ninjas don't seem to care so much about the keychain, so that's good. They seem to care about murdering them, which is less good, but maybe Dean's corpse can keep hold of it tig--
Nope. Fei's not going to allow any of them to die. There is a fury behind his blows that throw off someone moving to snap Malfi's neck, hurling away someone prepared to swing a fist down into the base of Dean's spine. They all back off and start to stare down this mysterious man.
It's something of a stalemate... but if Dean uses the freeze ray, he can make an ice bridge back out the way they came. Malfi might be able to break open the door. Fei can give those that dare look him in the eye a primal fear they cannot possibly comprehend the depths of.
There is one last *squeak* as the rubbery, basically unbreakable annoying thing falls over the edge to be reunited with you-know-who. Once the door is open, the three of them can move to race back far, far away from this confrontation, up towards a ladder that leads out.
...Oh, hey, a billboard, on the wrong side of the sewer grate. Or is it the right side? There's fresh coupons on there. Some caveats and the like, something about not extending the offer to Junior Premier Lemina Ausa, 50% off your purchase of something that costs a narrow and arbitrary range of silver (maybe in hopes of just offloading the one or two things that cost that much)... but hey, coupons! And a keychain.
And more evidence of Metal Demon activity still being a thing on Lunar, but... keychain retrieved!!

<Pose Tracker> Malfi has posed.

Malfi's body warps and shrinks and shifts and flows, golden skin fading to something more like raw almond, hair and eyes shading a nondescript brown. She hates her human disguise. It's so small. So puny. So itchy!. No help or hope for it, though. She can hardly walk the streets of Meribia in her true form. She snags some coupons as she shrinks. Maybe this Ramus fellow will have something useful or interesting for sale!

<Pose Tracker> Dean Stark has posed.

As irritated as Dean might be by the squeaking, he truly underestimated how strong these pajama guys are. He gets maybe a second or two of surprise in on them with the strangeness of his ARMs before he gets punched in the ribs and sent flying over towards--hey, his keys! He grunts in pain as he manages to grab them before a couple of those weird but super-strong guys loom over him--

Fortunately Fei forces them away, yelling something about child trafficking. Unsure what trafficking is supposed to be (are they running across busy streets?? that's not good), Dean scrambles back to his feet, shoves his keys into his pocket, and shoots an ice-bridge out of here.

"I got what we came for! Let's go!" he shouts to the others before dashing away, though not so fast he leaves them behind. As they run--huh! A billboard! And coupons? Those are always useful! He grabs a few and shoves them in another, non-grody-keychain-holding pocket, then heads for the ladder out. ...Huh, did Malfi just transform??

<Pose Tracker> Yarobeleedt has posed.

Meanwhile, Yarobeleedt stews in the depths of the overflow tank, twitching so every often as he floats about in the filth. The Stare Roe toy bounces off of him with a ! REDACTED SOUND EFFECT ! as he stirs back to the miserable awareness of his present life, in which he seems to have some keen, succinct, even erudite commentary.
        "This is offal!!"

<Pose Tracker> Fei Fong Wong has posed.

Fei does get pretty ferocious here. Perhaps even Feirocious. Something about these particular ninja piss Fei off.

"Shit...! They got away!" Fei says even as they're, uh, actually kind of fleeing themselves. "Not good...not good... Gonna have to tell Jean about this."

He shakes his head and jogs after Dean until--

....

....

"This is a joke huh...?" He isn't asking Dean. He is asking Althena if anybody. The universe.

"Be careful with those guys," Fei asides to Dean. "I think they're uh... they kidnap kids. If my understanding's right."

<Pose Tracker> Dean Stark has posed.

"I guess," Deans says to Fei in all seriousness as the two of them reach the streets of Meribia, "these sewers get a lot of traffic."

        Serious nod. Dead serious.

But then Fei explains what child trafficking actually is, and Dean gawks at him. "What?! That's horrible!" He clenches a fist. "We can't just let them get away!" Pause. "...Oh, right. I guess we just did. Although *we* were the ones who got away..." Still!! He gives the sewers below a glower. "Did you say you were gonna tell Jean? That's smart. She's strong; maybe we can all do something together about this."

<Pose Tracker> Dean Stark has posed.

But that will be a conversation for another day...
