  • Cast: Jacqueline Barber, Shalune Amira, Lunata Croze, Arleph Ardan, Carina Wynne, Tesni Inoue
  • Where: Azado - Flooded Ruins
  • Date: September 1st, 2018
  • Summary: Following the destruction of Azado, half of the Caravan Kinship flees into the ruins that opened to search for a way to escape the carnage above, and hopefully find a way to save the people of the city...

=================================<* Azado *>==================================

Azado is a city on the southern edge of the Goddess Plains, notable for being the nearest port to the Holy City of Pentagulia. The bounty of the Plains travels on these ships to the seat of the Goddess's power, and most residents are either employed in shipping, storing, or transporting goods in support of the faithful.

The city is also the seat of the Red Priestess Mauri, one of the Four Heroes; she spends most of her time training young acolytes of Althena in the ways of the faithful before sending them forth into the world. Construction has recently begun on a massive shrine to the Goddess Althena - once complete, it is expected to rival Pentagulia itself in its majesty.
DG: A party led by Jacqueline Barber is now entering The Flooded Ruins.
DG: Party formation is now over. An Entry Challenge will now be drawn and displayed to the party.

The terrifying rumbling from above gives some idea of what lay on the
streets of Azado. Whatever brought the tidal wave with it has not stopped,
and the occasional horrible groan of wood and shattering of stone indicates
that not all is safe in the city. The sewers, too, rumble and shake as you
 move through them.

But there are deeper things hidden within these sewers, and you come across
one of several entrances... guarded by a sealed door. There are runes upon
it, glowing softly. Those with experience on Filgaia may recognize the runes
as Elw. The door has several sliding tiles, with images carved into them.
Slide them in the right direction, and the door will open.

Or, spend awhile breaking it down.
=Dungeon Conditions: Reckless, Tire===========================================
<Pose Tracker> Jacqueline Barber has posed.

Azado was...gone. Jacqueline didn't see it happen, but she heard the word from people who had filtered down into the sewers. Something terrible had arrived, bringing with it terrible destruction.

Jacqueline had wanted to help the others, but...the wounded refugees still needed her medical assistance, and certain someones might have had a word to say on the matter, as well.

The earth-shattering shockwave that had passed through the structure, however, pointed in one direction - nowhere was safe, above or below.

They needed to move forward - staying here would mean death. It was a stroke of fortune that lead to the Carakin - their vehicle - ending up down in the ruins with them. Jacqueline wasn't going to overlook this. And so, with the vehicle in tow(perhaps literally), they start forward.

...At least, until they run into a large sealed door. Big enough for the Carakin, and even Big Shal. The fact that it's sealed might be seen as a problem...but on closer inspection, those runes...

"Those are...Elw runes!" Jacqueline comments in surprise. "This door...this is one of those doors that's sealed with a 'Duplicator' key... Unfortunately, they're rather rare. I don't have any on me... But if they're here, I think we're going the right way..."

This posed a problem. This meant they'd have to do it the hard way. The hard way involving the series of sliding tiles present on the door, which Jacqueline walks over to investigate.

DG: Jacqueline Barber has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Duplicator-Sealed Door.
<Pose Tracker> Shalune Amira has posed.

Shalune's had better days, but at least she's still standing; as hardy as she ever is, she and Big Shal have recovered relatively quickly from their tumble down into the ruins underneath Azado. Quick to adapt, she's been trying to spend her time fixing what she can - whether that be doing rudimentary first aid on the wounded, or rudimentary first repair on the Carakin and Big Shal in order to get them into working order.

Now, the golem is helping the caravan navigate over the rough ground of the ruins, towing the vehicle forwards and gently lifting parts of it over any significantly ruined patches of land. Flying alongside on the Little Dipper - the white-metal flying scooter of too-advanced-for-Filgaia nature - the pink-haired girl is trying to keep her spirits up, but can't help but look rather grim.

Even she felt the scream from the Guardians, dim and muted as it was for her; she'd watched as Sin annihilated Azado, and is now looking rather withdrawn for it, fixing her gaze solely on the task ahead of her to stare fixedly forwards. She'd looked in on Lunata, at least, and made sure the waitress was alright - offered a rather piecemeal explanation for what had just happened, and what was going to happen next - but otherwise there doesn't seem to be a lot to do but to push forwards.

"... yeah... I remember seein' one near Adlehyde once," she mutters to herself, slipping her backpack off her shoulders to begin rooting through it. "But y'know, I think I had-- hmm, hmm, what did it look like again, where did I put it..." she mumbles under her breath, sticking her tongue out the corner of her mouth as she reaches further and further into her pack. For a moment, it looks like it might swallow her whole--

--then she's yanked out an odd and misshapen red block in roughly the shape of a key. Pitted, dusty, cracks running through it. ... it's definitely a Duplicator, but... is this thing still going to work?

DG: Shalune Amira has used her Tool Bag of Tricks toward her party's challenge, Duplicator-Sealed Door.
<Pose Tracker> Lunata Croze has posed.

Lunata was inside the Carakin when it tumbled down along into the hole with the rest of the group, and could summarily be found in a configuration involving a pile of blankets and laundry and definitely thinking this is a day where she's not going to get out of bed.

Where bed is 'literally the pile of laundry i just finished'.

<Pose Tracker> Arleph Ardan has posed.

Surviving Azado was an ordeal. Even if they were in a 'safe' spot, the sound of the shockwave above did much to spur up the imagination and the worries of everyone. He too does his best to the refugees they have under their care in the shelter. Their vehicle being down there with them was a stroke of luck, one that he would be suspicious of if he didn't know any better on the subject to not refuse a gift like this.

"They are." Arleph comments, his voice dulled and tired, taking off his hat to wring some water from it, approaching the sealed Ewl contraption. He reach over for it, furrowing his brows. "Yes, it would seems it is of the 'Duplicator' kind. Maybe we can... fool it in some way or another. I'll try to scan it for more information on what we can do."

He takes a step back, palm outstretched. A circle draws itself in the air, formed with several rectancles and triangles spinning into one another, unfolding to form squares and lozanges, then splitting. With a free hand, he adjusts his optics to activate them and getting them to work, subtly hiding it as simply adjusting them.

"Hopefully it's not sealed against a scanning spell."

<Pose Tracker> Carina Wynne has posed.

"aaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAH--" SPLOOSH.

And here is Locus out of nowhere, falling into the sewer's waters. She stands up straight with another, much smaller splash, wet and grimy. She wipes her armor's bug eyes, spots Jay and starts gesticulating.

"Miss Jay, it's terrible, the city caught on fire, and then a big wave came and put it out but also washed stuff away, and then this giant monster started destroying the city and most of it's gone, and there were these voices freakin' out-- and--"

Look story short, it takes a moment to get Locus to focus and calm down a little. It's easy to imagine a look of grim determination behind her mask, even though that is probably not what is actually happening here. You'll have to forgive her, this is her first time seeing a city get destroyed.

At least the intriguing sight of the door is a welcome distraction. "Elw ruins? Here? That's weird... But never fear! With the power of the MATRIX EYE, I will find the solution to this puzzle!"

She taps the side of her helmet and... Tap. Tap. Taptaptap.

"Aw, frick, no power already. That's what I get for overusin' it."

FLASHBACK

"Never fear! With the MATRIX EYE, I will find this wall's weak spot!" Locus punches through it, leaving a hole big enough for civilians to flee the burning city through.

END FLASHBACK

Did you expect a humorous aside? This is a serious situation!! Either way, Locus hangs back, not wanting to mess the puzzle up for the smarter group members.

"If all else fails, we can always ram the CaraKin into it?" she jokingly(?) suggests.

DG: Arleph Ardan has used his Tool Optics toward his party's challenge, Duplicator-Sealed Door.
DG: Carina Wynne has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Duplicator-Sealed Door.
<Pose Tracker> Tesni Inoue has posed.

Tesni Inoue was very unsettled she'd not had time to grab much on her way out to so speak and has stuck with Jay. Staying behind would mean she'd die here. She did not want to die on this planet if she could help it. Thankfully the RV as she was fond of calling the group's ride was with them. What she did not expect after all of the disturbances was to find Elw ruins. She pauses for a moment she sighs and takes a look around.

"I'm fresh out of them I'm afraid. Though let us see what I have with my notes.."

She pulls her ARM, that being the PAD, not her rifle out and gets to work checking her notes to see how this lines up with what else she knows about the Elw.

"Well this confirms they'd been on both planets."

Admittly both worlds were slowly driving Tess wo wish she had some demo charges to flip the bird to the person who desined dungeons like this, for now though let see if she any useful info to help get past this.

DG: The party led by Jacqueline Barber has passed this challenge! The party gained 20 exploration! If anyone needs to

<Pose Tracker> Jacqueline Barber has posed.

It had been really surprising to find Carina dropping suddenly into the sewers...but also, quite the relief. That was another friend of hers that was safe.

The cry of the Guardians, though...that something could frighten them so deeply, it was a sign of something that was beyond any of them. That Azado was no more, by that thing's hand...well, that was more than enough for her.

"I believe there was one in the Guardian Temple, as well..." Jacqueline replies with a nod...then watches in surprise as Shalune reaches deeep into her pack and draws out...a Duplicator!?

...A really old, and beat-up Duplicator, but a Duplicator nonetheless.

Jacqueline isn't making any headway, so she, along with Carina, steps back to let Shalune take a crack at it.

Arleph, meanwhile, scans the door while Tesni checks her notes. The door, as it happens, is not sealed against scanning.

The door seems to be sealed by a rather complex and unique sorcerous lock. It's not something one could brute force, with a lockpick or otherwise. The only way to get through is by solving the puzzle on the front, breaking it down...

...Or, as Shalune does, using the right key. For a second, it seems like the old, beat-up key isn't going to work...but eventually, there's several clicks in rapid succession as the locks disengage before the door simply...

...Vanishes. Progress!

DG: Carina Wynne has drawn a new Challenge.

When you enter this room, you find that you are the top of a stairwell
leading down a couple of levels. However, water filled this room at some
point long ago. Mounted on the wall, however, is a series of levers. These
control pumps which can empty the room of water -- but, if you aren't
careful, they could also pump more water into it, and fill the chamber.
=Dungeon Conditions: Stupify, Injure==========================================
<Pose Tracker> Carina Wynne has posed.

"Nice, Lunie!" Locus says with a grin in her voice and a thumbs-up. She's only a little bit disappointed that they didn't try ramming the CaraKin into the door.

The party, golem and caravan proceed and, after an uneventful few minutes, come across a flooded stairwell. Locus, restless, has taken point, but stops in front of the mass of water.

"Guh... Seems like a gregarious amount of water, too much to swim through. Hey, does the CaraKin have a submarine mode?" she asks, turning to Shalune, hope in her voice and fists clutched to her heart.

But regardless of the answer she's given, she then immediately notices the set of levers and wanders over to them. She pulls one, seeing the water below drain, but only slightly. She pulls the second, causing water to splash down upon her from above.

"flbhblblbblhghk!!" She pushes it back and stops to wring her wet ponytail. "C-Cold... Well, least it's clean-ish water, that washed away the sewer megacrud. If anyone wants a shower, that's the one to use!"

And she proceeds to test out more levers at more or less random. She may flood the room even further if she isn't stopped!!

DG: Carina Wynne has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Flood Control.
<Pose Tracker> Tesni Inoue has posed.

If the Guardians were having a bad day, it was a bad day for every native of the moon and planet in her mind. She's now able to find a few thing on doors like someone had a key she cna't help but grin as it actually works.

"Well I think that's thes best luck I seen fo a while on a doro like that." As they move on they find that there' a flooded section of the undergroun she ack as Carina gets soaked from teh water. She manages to not laugh.

"You all right wait let's try testing them to see what each one does!"

Tess is quick to rush to Carina's aid before something else happens to befall her, and everyone else.

DG: Tesni Inoue has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Flood Control.
<Pose Tracker> Shalune Amira has posed.

"Hehe," Shalune replies, the brighter moment cutting through the gloom a little; she rubs at the back of her head as she holds the Duplicator up to the door, and then wails slightly as the ancient key abruptly crumbles the rest of the way away in her hands. "E-eh-- aw, c'mon! I wanted to reverse engineer that thing!" she pouts to herself, then lets out a sigh as she shakes her head. "A-aw... oh well."

It's probably for the best, anyway, because it's not like Shalune needs to become more of a thief.

She winces a little at the sight of the shaft ahead, a wave of her hand directing Big Shal to stop behind them; it's possible that they might be able to navigate the caravan onwards, but not with so much water around, and from the point of view of a mechanic Shalune has long since learned that of all the things she might have to deal with, moisture's one of the worst.

"Mmn... I mean, I could probably rig up a flotation system, but we'd need a whole lot more materials. Big Shal can just walk through it like it's no trouble, but this is a bit more-- I dunno. The way it is right now, after a lack of repairs on Lunar, I don't like its chances." ... she says that, but has to cross her eyes briefly as she wonders whether Lunata, in her current state, could casually manage the same feat as Big Shal.

She trails off as Carina wanders forwards - and yelps at the sudden shower of water from above. "A-ahh, hey! Watch out!" she blurts for a moment, and then furrows her brow as she does something she hasn't for a long time - simply flies upwards towards the machinery above, doing her best to trace the myriad pipes back to their sources and map out what everything does. Fishing in her pocket, she begins to make a string of markings on the wall, switching between a multitude of different chalk colours along the way.

DG: Shalune Amira has used her Tool Bag of Tricks toward her party's challenge, Flood Control.
<Pose Tracker> Jacqueline Barber has posed.

Jacqueline is quiet as they pass through the formerly-sealed door, heading further into the ruins. She kind of lags behind a bit, but she too stops at the sight of all that water blocking their passage forward.

"...That's a problem..." She mutters, shaking her head. As it happens, the Carakin doesn't have a submarine mode...yet, anyway. It's on the list. "Yeah, I...I don't think we should risk it. I don't know if Lunata would appreciate it, either, particularly if something went wrong...

And then, Carina makes her way to the levers.

"W-wait--!" Jacqueline says, reaching out to stop her...but its too late. At least Carina's a good sport about it? And at least it was just water, and not anything worse.

"H-hold on, let me take a look at it..." Jacqueline says, stepping up next to her and taking a look over the lever array. She's in the same boat as Tesni, as regards to 'testing them all first'.

DG: Jacqueline Barber has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Flood Control.
<Pose Tracker> Arleph Ardan has posed.

Hey, turns out scanning the whole thing wasn't super needed! That's okay. That's still more information and data about Ewl technology. Technomancy? It's a bit hard to gauge at this point about that precursor race.

They pass through, the Symbologist, leading them to an array of levers. The sewers controls, or some sort of other control center, it seems. That's pretty clear.

"I wish it had a submarine mode." Arleph comments, pausing, then adding that to his mental notes. That's not a half-bad idea, maybe with some work and some elbow grease, they'll be able to do something of that sort.

He chortles at Carina's predicament. A bit of humour in time of stress, especially since nobody was hurt by it other than pride, at least helps with alleviating the horror of the situation above. "Let me take a look too." Arleph says, his optics still active and trying to get a good scan of the pipes, going through and see what they need to pull to get through.

DG: Arleph Ardan has used his Tool Optics toward his party's challenge, Flood Control.

<Pose Tracker> Carina Wynne has posed.

Locus, Tesni and Jay test some levers. Shalune and Arleph meanwhile go straight for the source, or at least as far as they can go, and make some observations.

"flbhblblbblhghk!!" Locus observes, as she once again gets doused, due to inadvertently pulling the lever from earlier AGAIN.

It turns out the system isn't actuall that complex, but it's good that people are checking the pipes. From what they find out, pulling the lever connected to one in particular would force them to test the CaraKin's underwater capabilities whether they like it or not!

The testing goes well, and what is dubbed 'the forbidden lever' is meticulously avoided. Soon the stairwell is dry, relatively so. The CaraKin can make it, even if the ride is going to be a little bumpy. (Poor Lunata.)

"flbhblblbblhghk!!" Locus cheers. She shakes her head and wrings her wet ponytail again. "Sorry, though I was going to lean on a lever all cool-like... Anyway. Onwards!!"

As you move down this hallway, you find an elevator. When you approach, the
 stone doors slide open automatically. The controls inside are simply enough;
there are buttons directing you to the floors below and above, and
translating them isn't terribly hard. However, you discover a problem once

<Pose Tracker> Shalune Amira has posed.

The previously waterlogged ramp leads down towards an old elevator; thankfully, it's sized for some kind of cargo, and while that may throw up more questions than answers, it does at least mean that the caravan and Big Shal can both fit on it successfully.

Shalune is busy looking quietly dazzled as the group carefully files inside; she's seen technology of this sort before, of course, but that was on Filgaia. Whatever she might have been expecting from a ruin on Lunar, it certainly wasn't this, and especially not to this scale. "Woahhh... is it all hydraulics? Maybe that's what all the water is for, though, uh, if that's the case I really hope there isn't a leak or somethin'."

When the doors close, Shalune realizes abruptly that she doesn't have a single idea of where they're trying to go or in which direction; she hums and haws over the control panel, trying at the same time to figure out the writing involved and work out which button to press. Fortunately, the decision is somewhat made for her; few of the buttons work, some of them emitting an angry buzz and turning red when she tries them.

Process of elimination throws up a couple of different options - rather than decide between them, Shalune just hits all of them at once with a shrug, then goes right back to quietly awed and holding her breath as their platform lurches into movement. It's a good plan - were it not for the fact that the indicator doesn't even have time to change before a sudden lurch indicates they've stopped dead in the water, stuck between floors - and then suddenly drop dowards rather further than they should, with an angry and suspicious creak of fatigued metal.

The lift can't seem to decide on a speed - and Shalune thins her lips as worry starts to creep in. "--uhh-- I'm gonna say it's time to hit the emergency brakes," she mumbles, nodding at Big Shal - who turns towards the hatch, leaning slowly down with a creaking noise. The pink-haired girl is at the golem's side, drawing a long slat of metal from the gantry on Big Shal's back - and driving it into the gap at the bottom of the door, trying to lever it upwards for the golem to establish a grip to lift with.

<Pose Tracker> Jacqueline Barber has posed.

Carina gets soaked again. Jacqueline winces sympathetically. Fortunately, an elevator opens up, big enough for the Carakin and Big Shal. Jacqueline steps in very carefully. She was a little cautious, but...it seems to handle the weight of the golem and the vehicle just fine.

"This ruin has connections to the Elw, so...frankly, I'm not willing to put anything past them." Jacqueline replies with a glance toward Shalune. Did she mean leaks, or hydraulics?

...Considering it was the Elw, probably 'both'.

And then she frowns, folds her arms in front of her, and stares pensively as Shalune tries buttons. ...And eventually, they find something that works!

A little too well, as it turns out, as they're suddenly dropping rapidly.

"A-a good plan!" Jacqueline says, a little panicked. She tries to think of something, but...

"...This would be a really good time to have my Earth Crests back...!" She mutters, then starts looking around for anything that might be useful in stopping them.

She would help Shalune out, but Jacqueline is not known for her physical strength...

<Pose Tracker> Carina Wynne has posed.

Locus follows the group into the elevator. Shalune speaks of hydraulics. "What's a hydralisk?" But there are more pressing issues at hand, such as that control panel. As usual, though, she hangs back to let the clever people-- like Shalune! --figure that one out.

"You know," she remarks out loud, arms crossed behind her head like a true anime, "compared to the last Elw ruins we went through, I'd give this one an 8 out of 10 so far. Most stuff isn't completely broken, nothing has tried super hard to kill us..."

The elevator lurches into movement. Carina grins behind her mask.

"Overall it's been a pretty smooth ride!"

A stop. Then, sudden movement.

"AAAAAAAH! Frick!!" Locus' solution is surprisingly indirect, or maybe this is what seems most straightforward to her. That is to say, she rushes over to the control panel Shalune has abandoned, and starts pressing buttons at random. "Eenie meenie, geronimo..." At least this time she doesn't get a shower for her troubles, but this might very well count as 'not helping'.

<Pose Tracker> Arleph Ardan has posed.

"Uhm." Arleph says, at the PLUMMETING SPEED they appear to have gotten himself. Of course, such simple words have much context in the man's expression. Wide eyes for surprise and panic. Gritting teeth, grinding into one another and trying hard to note bite his tongue. Gloved fingers squeezing hard on the rails of the caravan.

"A very good plan!" Arleph echos Jay, throwing out his hands to the side and throwing out a spell on each side, giving out some friction by turning things to ice to, at least, gain some TIME to the whole process. "Turn the left one! Turn the left one down!" he calls out.

DG: Arleph Ardan has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward his party's challenge, Elevator Ride.
<Pose Tracker> Tesni Inoue has posed.

Tesni Inoue says "We could try to upgrade it later Arleph." Is she serious or is she joking? Maybe it's both it's hard to tell. She works way with the levers and while others for the source it takes some time but the party is able to get past it without having to go for a swim. They finally come to a lift and it seems to be they have a bit of a problem the things dangerous and it's movmeing without stopping.

"I agree we'll need to time it just right, when we do."

She's watching the movment trying to find a pattern to help find the best time to hit that stop button.

<Pose Tracker> Shalune Amira has posed.

"Right?" Shalune mutters as she heaves downwards on her levering bar. "I'm gettin' kinda fed up with these guys, and I've never even met any of them. They really seem like they were the sort of scientist who'd build a bomb to see if they could." She's trying to exert as much force as she can; she eventually settles for simply leaping on the bar and trying to bring her entire weight to bear, but she isn't exactly what you'd call heavy-set, and she just sort of ends up hanging over the steel rod, before yelping as one of Carina's button-presses briefly reverses the movement of the lift, sending both her and her pivot rocking upwards and throwing her aside as it gets jostled loose.

The control panel appears to be nothing more than garbled text at this point; while Locus and Tesni do their best to manipulate it, the only reply is a collection of angry and upset noises and a variety of beeps - or worse, buttons that simply do nothing at all but light up in a happy green, as if they should be working just fine. What an insult to good feedback.

Shalune yelps again, but grits her teeth as she finds her footing and tries again - but what ultimately stops the lift dead is a combination of sorcery from Jacqueline and Arleph. The first piece of material outside in the shaft causes an alarm to blare out; the lift lurches again and then stops almost dead, juddering down towards the nearest stop as some kind of emergency mode is activated. Another bout does halt the lift in its tracks, and a series of flashing red lights replace the rest of the lighting as the door slowly hinges open. What floor they might be on now is impossible to pick out, but it is at least a way onwards.

DG: Jacqueline Barber has drawn a new Challenge.

<Pose Tracker> Jacqueline Barber has posed.

Jacqueline sighs in relief as they finally slow to a stop. The flashing red lights are a little...unnerving, but it's better than the possibility of hurtling downward to an inevitable demise.

"Let's be careful...there's no telling where we are now." Jacqueline says, stepping through the doors. Up ahead, they can hear what sounds like footsteps. Loud, stony footsteps. The reality of the situation becomes clear, however, when a large stone hand crawls around the corner on the tips of its fingers. It pauses at the sight of the party before rising up...and then pointing at them dramatically!

With that done it curls into a fist and goes flying toward them. Jacqueline yelps and dives out of the way, reaching into her bags and drawing out a book.

"Is that...a golem's hand? Um, let's see here..." She says, flipping through the pages. She doesn't expect to find any entries for this particular hand, but there might be entries for other hand-based things in here. "Be careful, everyone, it can fire beams from its fingertips! It can also take aim and launch missiles, too...and it might also try to slap you or grab at you!"

She pages through it some more, but...she shakes her head.

"...Shalune, you know more about these than I do, do you have anything to add?" She asks.

DG: Jacqueline Barber has used her Tool The Lifeweaver's Codex toward her party's challenge, Golem Arm.
<Pose Tracker> Shalune Amira has posed.

Shalune dives to one side as the Golem arm comes crashing past them; it appears to have aimed directly for Big Shal, and the complete golem sets its feet wide and brings both hands up to block with a resounding 'boom' that echoes through the tunnels. Already on the ball, Shalune peeks up from the rubble she rolled behind, and it's to her credit that she only has to take a moment to examine the arm before she starts chattering away.

"Elw-based!" she yells urgently. "The organic construction's a giveaway, but at least it's not one of the big ones! If we found bits of Diablo up on the moon it'd really suck!" Not exactly pertinent, but she's motormouthing fast enough it barely matters, as Big Shal tosses the arm aside and throws a punch in its direction immediately afterwards. "--it's kinda busted! Probably just attacking wildly without any kind of orders, so it's gonna be pretty dumb and acting on... well, whatever counts for instinct! If we can just give it a bit of a "

The Carakin golem is distinctly a very different type - Veruni technology is a whole other thing compared to Elw - but that doesn't mean that Big Shal can't put up a fight. The punch is followed by a shoulder barge that traps the arm against the wall for a moment, and then the Carakin golem is-- trying to take it by the hand?

DG: Shalune Amira has contributed a Combat Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Golem Arm.
<Pose Tracker> Carina Wynne has posed.

"Okay! That's enough elevator action," Locus announces as the group leaves the out-of-control machinery behind.

But what's this, company? Yes and no! A giant hand... points at them?!

Why, Locus points right back!

Jay has some warnings for them. "Whoa, scary!! All this from just a hand? Golems are no joke... All right, now..."

She holds out her hand, and the ice blue marble appears in it. She plucks the lightning yellow one from her belt and puts the ice marble in its place.

                                 ELEMENT: ICE_

"Maybe I can give its fingertips a lil' frostbite," she explains, shifting into a fighting stance and hopping from one foot to another, "and that'll stop it from firing beams! ATATATATATA!"

She punches the air with both hands, frost gathering around her fists and soon fired, lightning quick, as icy blasts towards their mechanical foe.

DG: Carina Wynne has used her Tool Element Marble toward her party's challenge, Golem Arm.
<Pose Tracker> Arleph Ardan has posed.

Arleph similarly dives to one side when the Golem comes flying at them. Most people here can take a punch, but something this size is a bit ridiculous!

"It does seem very organic! They are very good flesh crafters, the Elws!" Arleph shouts out, rolling up and pushing up to one knee, reaching into his pockets to take out one of his glowing blue pills, his fist flashing with a symbol as he inject it with energy, before crushing it and spraying a soothing, blue mist in the air around the party. "If it's busted, then we'll have to get it smashed down to parts! See if you can't keep some parts of it for study!@"

DG: Arleph Ardan has used his Tool Ambrosia Protocol toward his party's challenge, Golem Arm.
<Pose Tracker> Shalune Amira has posed.

"--don't you dare!" blurts Shalune, shocked despite herself as she wails. "If it's intact, keep it intact!" ... she might be a trifle biased.

<Pose Tracker> Lunata Croze has posed.

A hand twitches out of the ruffled, crumpled pile of socks and blouses for a moment. It's like an up-periscope, the way it perks left, right, and then up again; and then Lunata rummages the rest of her elbow out to juuuuuuust barely reach for something on the wall and rip a piece of paper down.

Days Since Lunie Inappropriately Reappropriates Ruin Tech: _0_

<Pose Tracker> Tesni Inoue has posed.

Things are looking up so far though she's feeling a bit more worn otu than she thought she'd be. They get the lift to work but it's a near thing alarms go off and the thing stops, she reaies her AMR just ot be on the safe side, thankfully nothing bad happens for the moment. Well that doesn't last too long as they run into a Golem Arm which is trying to take them out.

She leaps away firing shots from her ARM atr the thing calling out.

"Keep an eye out for the rest of it!"

DG: Tesni Inoue has contributed a Combat Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Golem Arm.

"Yes, I'm frankly glad this isn't a piece of Diablo..." Jacqueline replies. They'd be in a lot more trouble if it was...and besides that, that would mean it somehow got out of the Yggdrasill, which would be a problem on its own.

Carina acts quickly - lunging at it with a flurry of icy blows that rapidly freeze over its fingertips before it can fire off any of its lasers. This also has the side-effect of locking up its missiles, saving them from those, as well. While Carina keeps it distracted, Tesni has plenty of time to leap away and line up several shots at it with her arm.

The bullets impact it, sending it crashing down to the ground. If Shalune isn't careful, it might land on her in the process...but thankfully, Arleph's protective mist and her own natural endurance will keep her safe.

But then, the arm rears up again and goes for her...before being shoulder-checked into the wall by Big Shal, who takes it by the hand!

...Jacqueline blinks and stares at this display. She's not entirely sure what she's witnessing here, but...eventually, the golem arm seems to relax.

...Victory...?

In the depths of these flooded ruins, you find salvation. Those who were at

crystalline structure in the center. A teleportation station, which will
activate a wide-area teleportation for smaller people. Those in Azado could
be whisked away from the thing destroying their city.

 However, there is a problem.

You have entered on the third level of a three-tiered room -- and it is
flooded. You will need to swim down, and swim past some fences and rails
that pose obstacles, to activate the teleporter. The activation is a simple
matter of pressing the crystal into the receptacle. And, of course, you will
need to hope enough others can do the same...

<Pose Tracker> Carina Wynne has posed.

"Victory!" Locus pumps a fist as the golem arm is subdued, and from the look of things the rest of its body either hasn't caught up or isn't interested in a fight. Knock on wood?

Locus, still impatient, runs on ahead. As the others catch up, they can hear her shouting something...

"OH WOW!"

As they approach, she explains, alternating between pointing to the water below and gesticulating wildly.

"Look! Look! It's the thing from the place! From that time we had to hold off that fat cat tryin' to destroy the world, and that blue-haired lady and her friends did the stuff with the thing! And there was a 'woosh' and we wound up on super vacation!"

What? What she's saying should make a lot more sense as the group takes stock of the teleporter below, blocked off by fences and various inconvenient structures, either there by design or unfortunately collapsed.

"If we use this, we can get away! We might even be able to go back home! And if it does the big giant city-enfgulfin' light thing, maybe we can save people!" She sounds like she's choking up a bit.

"It's worth a try," she decides, once again not bothering to wait for anyone's assessment before diving down into the underwater obstacle course. It seems like Big Shal would be a big help giving the big crystal a big push, but even then, it might be good for the group to hedge their bets using the greatest superpower of all-- teamwork!

DG: Carina Wynne has contributed a Agility Basic Action toward her party's challenge, The Water Level.
<Pose Tracker> Shalune Amira has posed.

Shalune watches with trepidation as the others take on that arm; she winces as the structural integrity begins to give out, the already ruined component looking in danger of becoming totally so. All she can do is hope to calm it, and that the Elw technology will hold against more than just the passage of time. "I-I'm just saying, it'd really help when it came to fixing up Diablo! Or improving Big Shal!" she tries to excuse herself; she can't see Lunata as the waitress resets the counter, but Shalune's developed a keen sense of when she's getting judged.

Fortunately, there seems to be an accord reached, and the mechanic lets out a deep sigh of relief as she straightens up. Bless her, but she can't help herself when she grins toothily, full of pride: "Big Shal! Thanks for giving us a hand!"

She's probably not getting any dinner today.

As they enter the central chamber, she sucks in a breath, suddenly feeling terribly uncertain. "Ah..." she mutters for a moment, mumbling as she takes in the entirety of the room; it's a relief to find a way back, that's for certain, but she can't help but wonder if they should be waiting for everyone else, or at least leaving a message for the rest of the Drifters, or if it's really right to vanish back to Filgaia at a time like this.

She shakes the thought away with an unhappy sort of sigh. Whatever misgivings she's got, there's more important things right now - Lunata's health, the situation with the Guardians back on Filgaia, just being home in general - and she shrugs first her backpack and then her coat and boots off as she sucks in a breath.

"I made sure the Little Dipper's functional underwater. I dunno how deep it'll go, but-- at least it'll give me a good initial push, y'know?" she offers, clutching onto the scooter in her arms. With the handlebar and shaft removed the base does look oddly like a float, albeit one with an engine - and she counts under her breath to ten before diving into the water, remarkably able to swim despite the weight of her clothes.

DG: Shalune Amira has used her Tool Little Dipper toward her party's challenge, The Water Level.
<Pose Tracker> Arleph Ardan has posed.

There is something to be said about Water Mages that are not, actually, all that super great at swimming. Oh, sure, he can swim. He can swim fine. He's just not the sort of water mage that became so one with his element that he became a fish. Or swims like a fish, or anything similar for that matter.

"Well." Arleph comments. "That's when I wish I had a rebreather of some kind with me." Arleph comments, tapping his hands together as he takes in the sight of the submerged room, stretching out his limbs, crouching, bouncing to test his elasticity. He's also pretty glad internaly his ARMs are water proof. With that down, he dives in after, casting a quick Symbological spell to, at least, makes the swimming a bit faster.

<Pose Tracker> Jacqueline Barber has posed.

Hopefully they don't have to fight the rest of it. It'd be dangerous...but also, she isn't sure she'd put abducting the rest of it past Shalune, and she isn't sure they have room for an entire golem anywhere.

Jacqueline...has to stop herself from laughing at Shalune's joke. It's okay, Shalune. Jacqueline won't tell Lunata.

And then, Carina runs off.

"A-ah, wait!" Jacqueline says, chasing after her...but she stops and stares in awe at the device they've found.

"What is-" She starts, but Carina makes it unnecessary by explaining - in a rapid and round-about manner - what it is. Jacqueline was unconscious when all of that happened, so she never got to see it for herself. But if what Carina says is true...

"...I see. It's a long shot, but...I don't think we have any other choice. It's either this, or wait until that big thing up above goes away. We have a lot of food left in the Carakin, but..." But, she's not sure exactly how long they'd be able to camp out.

She looks toward Shalune, then. She has a vague idea of what she's thinking.

"...I think it'll be fine. If this device is like the one at the Pleasing Gardens, then as Carina says, it should hopefully transport everyone in the Azado area. I think she's right - this may be our chance to save them." She says, then glances toward Arleph. This seems to give her an idea, from the way she rummages through her bags immediately afterward. She draws out several bottles, which she passes out to everyone gathered.

"It's not a rebreather, but...here, these'll help make things easier." She says. It wasn't entirely a water-breathing potion, but it was the next best thing.

And then, with a deep breath...she dives in, trying to make it to the crystalline structure!

<Pose Tracker> Tesni Inoue has posed.

It's been a hectic trip so far, yet things seem to be going all right the Golem Arm is taken out and nothing comes after them for. She takes stock of her ARM and moves to fall back in with her allies. She now looks t the next thing they run into where the teleporter is and sighs. She starts taking off bits of her gear and shoving it in a watertight bag. Soon she's down to her shorts and undershirt and has packed away the rest of her stuff and she'll dive into the maze as well. So she'll seek to get through the maze and help. she's almost having fun with this one from the looks of it. It's not the seas of home but damn it's good for her to be in the water again.

DG: Tesni Inoue has contributed a Agility Basic Action toward her party's challenge, The Water Level.

=======================<* CHALLENGE - The Water Level *>========================
|Type: Final |Dungeon Ability: Agility |Challenge Rating: 2 |
---------------------------< Challenge Information: >---------------------------
In the depths of these flooded ruins, you find salvation. Those who were at
the Pleasing Garden recognize, instantly: a circular room, with a
crystalline structure in the center.

You swim down into the depths of the teleportation room. It is hard; a piece
of floating debris blocks your way, halfway through. Your lungs burn; you
only just force yourself down, your fingers feeling leaden and weak, before
you press the crystal into the activation chamber. That is when you gasp --
but there is a flash, as apparently others have managed to do the same, and
your mouth fills with dry Filgaian air, rather than briny water.

 You have returned to Filgaia.

<Pose Tracker> Carina Wynne has posed.

As Carina swims, she considers an important question: can Locus' helmet allow her to breathe underwater?

The answer, it turns out, is no. She'll just have to hold her breath like everyone else, she realizes. She swims for dear life, animated by a desperate hope. With each stroke, she cares less and less about where that teleporter will send them. Going home would be nice, of course, but she's only now reminding herself of the horrors happening right above their heads. If they can prevent even a small amount of them, then...

She looks left and right as the others join her, swimming with what they have. But just then, a large beam drifts towards them, out of a dark corner, and impacts a few, Carina included. Bubbles filter out of her helmet, knocked out of her lungs.

But still, she presses on with what little energy she has left. She shoulder-checks the crystal, as her vision starts to darken. Swimming back is out of question now. Are the others in as dire a situation as she is right now? She can't even tell. She just pushes, with all she has left.

I don't wanna die, she thinks.

But dying a hero is better than nothing, at least.

And just then, light fills her darkened vision. Hope is renewed.

To be continued, true believers!

<Pose Tracker> Tesni Inoue has posed.

She's not been swimming like this isn far too long, far far too long she's in too deep she's having issues breathing she's almost t her limit, then the world swims. She then finds herself soaking wet in a very dry place. She's alive but anything more...will not be for a while.
