  • Cutscene: The Writing on the Wall
  • Cast: Xantia
  • Where: Black Wolves' Campsite
  • Date: January 27th, 2019
  • Summary: The events of the previous day left those involved with more questions than answers. Though there is something Xantia left behind that may be related... (Black Wolves may treat this as IC knowledge, and are free to share it with others at their discretion!)

It's been 24 hours since Xantia suddenly turned on her friends, stating that they must all disappear before attacking them with a previously undisplayed level of power. Thankfully, their words and actions prevented a possible tragedy, managing to get her to struggle against whatever was happening, and subdue her before she could cause anybody permanent harm.

Stabilizing Xantia wasn't very difficult, all things considered, but she has been unconscious since then, and has yet to wake, leaving the exact reasons behind this unexplained occurance vague at best. However, there is a record, kept by Xantia herself at Lily's urging, detailing a strange noise that she kept hearing, which may have something to do with all this. A plain black notebook was left at her bedside with the other, less notable belongings she was carrying, free to be perused by any visitor who chooses to.

Xantia wrote a number of entries, each on a different page. None have the exact date written down, but if the first entry is any indication, it's easy enough to get a rough idea.

Well, this is silly. Lily gave me this notebook so I could write it down if I heard any weird stuff again, and now it's not happening anymore. Figures! I don't even know why I'm writing this down. I guess it's something to do, the boat ride's pretty boring. I'm almost wishing they'd attack us already. Oh well. I don't really know what else to write, maybe I'll write more later.

Apparently she didn't actually end up doing that for a good while, given the timeframe indicated by entry 2:

I just heard it again! That weird noise that feels like someone's talking to me, but doesn't really sound like words. Nobody else heard it as usual, I'm pretty sure. I didn't really think about it in Elru, but we just got back and now it's happening again. Maybe it's because I had to always be ready for an attack while we were over there. Or maybe it's something about that place. Something else strange happened to me over there too, so. Maybe I actually have been to Elru before after all.

Entry 3:

Ugh, the dumb voice-thing woke me up. It's just kind of annoying usually, but if it's going to cost me sleep I'm not going to be happy.

Entry 4:

I slept badly all week, so I got some of that blue sleepy drink from Jay. That helped. I haven't heard it at all today. Maybe it's going to be okay now.

Entry 5:

I just heard it again. I guess it's not cured, if this is even something that can be cured. What if it isn't something about Elru that made me not hear this thing, but something about Ignas that does make me hear this thing? That doesn't explain why I haven't been hearing it all the time, though. It only started after we got back from Lunar. I've been trying so hard to think of what changed, but there's so many things that changed, I just don't know.

Entry 6:

It's getting worse. Now it's just this constant buzzing noise in my ear, feels like it's always there. I need to talk to Lily.

A number of empty pages follow after that, making it look like that was the last entry. But skimming a little bit further reveals one more, particularly unusual entry. Unusual because in the other entries, Xantia wrote out her entire train of thought in neat and easily legible handwriting. This entry is far from that. It's written with an extremely shaky hand, but not very difficult to make out because the letters are very large, and there are only three words written down:

it calls me

The rest of the notebook is blank.
