The rumors were true! A small Refractor was found at the end of a path in
the Kattelox Ruins. It hovers within its containment capsule, at one of the
ends of a massive, vertical chasm. In this command center of sorts, you can
see out the window on the far side, at the vertical chasm ahead, used long
ago for what looks like mining. Old equipment still hums in this room,
awaiting orders from their operators, long gone now.

There is also a security system in place, with wall-mounted weapons in the
room. They won't activate so long as you don't mess with the target item you
are after, so you have plenty of time to plan how to tackle this situation--
 BLAM.

The opposite end of the mining operations room is ripped outward like an old
tin can, and a giant mechanical Reaverbot sticks its multi-eyed head inward.
Most of the eyes on its insectoid head are green, but there is a giant red
one on its right side, glaring at you and the refractor. It's a Bospider!
And it has its eyes on the small object just as much as you do!

It reaches over with its mandibular jaw and snatches the Refractor from its
bindings! Immediately the defense systems begin firing on all cylinders, but
the arachnid damaged the targeting software in its entrance, causing the
system to shoot blindly all over the room! Meanwhile, the Reaverbot takes
off outside, scuttling along the outer walls of the chasm! Thankfully
outside, there is a large mine transport cart that can carry you! It sits on
a singular large wheel locked onto a strong track. It also has... kinetic
boosters, and... spikes on the front. Huh.

<Pose Tracker> Seraph Harmaus has posed.

"It wonders us," the Seraph says, regarding the shimmering Refractor, well-kept in its capsule, at the end of the path along the ruins they now walk.

"What is the value in such things? Rarity alone? Appearance and sheen? Or other things?"

He shrugs, and advances towards it to claim it, which is of course when all hell breaks loose in the form of a Reaverbot.

But let's rewind a wee bit.

    KATTELOX, APPROXIMATELY 2 HOURS AGO

"Many secrets still remain below? Yes, this is acceptable. We go," the strange man had agreed, inclining his head in a curt nod.

There were rumors that someone had spotted a Refractor below, and a command center had put out a call for a crew to go and retrieve it, if it could be found. These things are not exactly common anymore.
    The pay is good.
    The work is simple.

It should be easy, particularly for a group that -- though the foreman may think it only two -- contains a more abnormally gifted crew than most might find in Filgaia these days.

    NOW

The Reaverbot snatches up the Refractor; the security goes mad in response, firing beams at all and sundry and completely missing the Reaverbot. It makes a getaway in the process.

"Ah, it goes," Harmaus remarks mildly, as a beam narrowly misses his head. "It goes and we follows, yes?"

Without so much as a backward glance, he runs on ahead, dodging the beams as he attempts to catch up with the spider-shaped machine.

It's getting well ahead of them. It can barely be seen as it descends into the chasm.

But there is a cart here. Almost curiously, Harmaus touches a finger to the spikes, his fingertip coming back bloody.

"Will suffice," he affirms, climbing aboard. "Will do and we go! Or it stays here," he gestures towards the rest of them, a smirk on his lips, "and we go. It matters not! But we will see yet what is below."

DG: Seraph Harmaus has contributed a Agility Basic Action toward his party's challenge, What Arach-et!.
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lanval has posed.

"Mmmm... mortalsh really like 'em," Lanval says, and that's over-simplifying their value. He's here milling around while Fox Company goes through whatever trading business it has, and Lanval has found constant and frequent amusement in looking at things through the little colorful crystals, because sometimes he is like a mortal five year old rather than a theoretically immortal five-hundred-and-sixty-something year old. Small joys are his thing, even accounting for the depths and breadth of his present oaths and duties.
"...Once that'sh outta there, I'll show ya shomethin' nea--"
It gets out of there, all right. It gets out of there by a Reaverbot snatching it up, the big metal spider that it is. Lanval's eyes open half-lidded, with a big dumb smile as he holds out an open hand like he were expecting it to politely drop it in there.
     It does not.
"Mmmph." He slumps, as white-hot evaporating beams graze him. A little bit of steam raises from where he presently manifests. "It'sh goin' real fasht." He doesn't think he could catch up with it...
But then the less familiar Light Seraph goes on ahead and finds a cart. Lanval ambles along with his continually strange idea of what 'walking' looks like, a series of pratfalls and staggers that meticulously weave around the weapons fire. He moves, appropriately, like rolling water with a grace that belies the bulkiness of his appearance as he tries to flop himself right into the cart.
"...'m gonna warn ya," which would have been nice before this all began, "I might shpeak fer the water of thish land now, buuuut... I gooooot no idea what'sh down there! Ha ha ha!"
That might not be terribly funny!!!

DG: Seraph Lanval has contributed a Agility Basic Action toward his party's challenge, What Arach-et!.
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Clarine has posed.

Clarine didn't really have much interest in money. She didn't even really have a use for her ARMS paycheck. But, there were friends and acquaintances here today, so she's as always eager and willing to help out if she can.

"They are certainly quite lovely." Clarine comments, as Harmaus wonders on what the value is in refractors. As he goes to take it, however, a Reaverbot arrives and snatches it up, causing the security system to go berserk.

"Ah, be careful!" Clarine warns. With a gesture, several prisms fly out of her sleeves before refracting into a series of shimmering rainbow barriers, deflecting beams away from the party as they give chase.

When they get to the spiked cart, Clarine readily climbs aboard.

"I...am still unfamiliar with mortal technology, but I will do my best to be of assistance." She says.

DG: Seraph Clarine has used her Tool Prismatic Projector toward her party's challenge, What Arach-et!.
<Pose Tracker> Eleanor Klein has posed.

"I believe that they're used as a fuel source," Eleanor Klein supplies for the benefit of the... well, everyone present except for her, actually. The elf is somewhat unique in this company. Of course, she might be a strange person to go on an outing like this to look at her--an academic, not at all athletic--but everyone knows mages are weird.

And she's a noble, so it's 'eccentric.'

"Oh--Hey, come back!" Eleanor complains at the spider, taking cover behind a cart and blinking as if Harmaus's voice surprises her still. "Oh--"

Another set of beams come, and Eleanor meets them with bursts of ice from a magic rod in her hand, making her way forward. Now that Clarine mentions it...

"I don't, either," Eleanor admits, "But that's what makes it fun! Don't worry, Clarine--Let's GO!"

Eleanor throws the lever. It's not the wrong lever.

DG: Eleanor Klein has used her Tool Ice Rod toward her party's challenge, What Arach-et!.

A keening screech can be heard across the way. The Bospider has run into an
obstacle! Some titanic, wall mounted drills have blocked its ability to
crawl further along the wall! Not that it is deterred. With a mighty leap,
it jumps across the gorge, and with a mighty tremor, begins to crawl along
the wall above your side-cut tunnel overlooking the chasm.

Just out of sight, you can hear it sink its pointed legs into the stone to
find climbing purchase. However, as it does, the ceiling above your cart
path becomes unstable, and chunks of rock begin to fall in your path! While
not large, it is another case of speeding into them. Taking one to the skull
 at this velocity is ill-advised.
=Dungeon Conditions: Wound====================================================
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Harmaus has posed.

Of the three Seraphs here, it may well be that Harmaus is the elder...

Which may in itself be a distressing realization to have.

He nods thoughtfully when Lanval affirms that mortals tend to like them -- and when Clarine chimes in that they're pretty. "Is the only reason? Or is more yet?" he remarks, folding his arms over his chest a moment as if in deep contemplation.

Into this moment, Eleanor remarks that they are a fuel source.

"Ah! Then it brings light. Powers machines. Banishes night. Forward, forward, into a brave new future! Yes, yes, the same wherever we goes." Before then throwing his arms and hands outwards in an overexpressive shrug as he advances towards the Refractor. "What has it got?" he asks, of Lanval, mere moments before--

The object is snatched away, and the thief skitters on ahead.

The small prisms prove quite helpful; several beams of light bounce off them to scorch the walls instead, Joining them are blasts from the ice rod, creating pillars to similarly deflect the beams and the group gets through (other than Lanval's earlier graze) unscathed.

Which leaves just them, the mine cart, and the depths below to where the Reaverbot has absconded with the Refractor.

"It warns us. We take warning," Harmaus remarks, glancing back at Lanval as the Water Seraph lets it spill that he... knows little about what's below.

"Then," Harmaus says, as the cart begins on its merry way, wheels squealing. "We finds out!"

<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lanval has posed.

It's a fast ride! Maybe even too fast. To recent memory, this is the fastest Lanval remembers traveling, and he's already rolling up right at the back of the cart in what would be an uncomfortable position for mortals to sit in. But him? He's fine. He's enjoying himself.
What's not enjoying themselves - whoever or whatever is making a large metallic screech a ways ahead. (It's the blue thieving spider Reaverbot.)
"What'sh got 'em all riled," Lanval slaps a hand up the side of the cart for grip and sits up, the other tightly holding his drinking gourd close as he peeks up and out of the cart. "...What'sh it yellin' at?" In Lanval's experience, a lot of the weird walking metal people have proven good and even pleasant conversationalists, and he's not sure why so many down in these parts aren't. Many have smiling stitchy mouths under their single red eyes! They should be friendly.
"Heyyyy," Lanval calls out, "shince yer shtuck, how 'bout we share the cryshtal together? I'll show ya shomethin' funn--" Bospider does not listen, and also does not share. Bospider makes a huge leap across the obstruction in front of it - some huge, rusted, titantic drills - and the entire tunnel shudders as it finds something ahead to perch to and land... but up above, the ceiling starts to collapse, loosened from the seismic forces. One boulder crashes on the track behind them and WOW that almost flips them right off the track.
"...I don't think they heard me," Lanval laments as he slinks back down into the cart, "ahhhh, lemme know when ya shee 'em again."
They are in mortal danger! Now is not the time to sulk and have a smoke-bubble break, which is exactly what he is doing as he takes a long drag off a fancy kiseru-style pipe and sighs bubbles.
Large bubbles that may or may not catch a few tumbling rocks. He does not have a great track record against pieces of earth - as tends to be how the elements keep each other in check among Seraphim - but this is marginally better than nothing.
Clever and decisive cart operation may also be key to avoiding being part of the newest craze in the strawberry jam pancake cosplay community. (It's not a lively scene.)

DG: Seraph Lanval has used his Tool Bubble Pipe toward his party's challenge, Bringing Down The Roof.
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Clarine has posed.

Clarine nods, as Eleanor points out that they're a power source. She knew that, come to think - but, them being pretty and reflecting light well is clearly her main interest, for obvious reasons, so sometimes the more useful uses slip her mind.

"Yes...!" She says brightly as Eleanor throws the lever. And with that, off they go, going down the track after the spider! But, eventually, the spider finds itself stopped by a series of drills. But not for long, however, as it finds a way around them - a way that conveniently drops boulders on them.

With a gasp, Clarine brings out more of those prisms, these ones forming a rainbow ceiling to catch the rocks and divert them away from the cart.

"Ah... I do not think this one is friendly, Lanval...?" Clarine comments, then pauses, her head tilted to the side. ...Or, maybe it is?? But it doesn't seem much for conversation.

DG: Seraph Clarine has used her Tool Prismatic Projector toward her party's challenge, Bringing Down The Roof.
<Pose Tracker> Eleanor Klein has posed.

Eleanor brings her hands to her pointed ears as the alarm starts going off. "Augh!" she complains, bending her knees and ducking down in the cart in dismay. "This is terrible!" But there are questions so she opens one squeezed-shut eye. It's us, or whoever else is in range! I think!" She frowns, then. "Ugh!"

When it leaps, Eleanor rises, and the crest sorceress blinks ahead. "Oh--that's not good--"

Rocks falling!! Suddenly, there is further noise:

Zshwoup! Zshwoup! Zswhoup! Eleanor keeps firing off crystalline blasts of frozen Muse power from her Ice Rod, making use of her extra-high magic meter to knock as many rocks out of the air as she can. Each one that hits frosts over blue and drops immediately, losing all its previous velocity and more often than not just shattering before the running cart.

"I think she's right," Eleanor agrees with Clarine. "...Though I'm not sure how many spiders I want to talk with..."

DG: Eleanor Klein has used her Tool Ice Rod toward her party's challenge, Bringing Down The Roof.
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Harmaus has posed.

"Heh. We thinks it stuck!" Harmaus declares, jabbing a finger up towards where the Reaverbot struggles against the ceiling. "Hurry, hurry, and we destroys it, take Refractor. Yes?"

The arachnid machine is not as inconvenienced as it may at first have appeared. It slips free and--

The wall rattles as the drills begin to bite into the rock, sending sections of the ceiling down in a rain.

"Is gone. We find again, yes, but we are not interested in the 'friends' with spiders," Harmaus announces, mere moments before the first rock comes crashing down behind them.

Here, Harmaus pauses, if for but a moment.

"Tcha," the bodied Seraph hisses, the first displeased sound of his mouth to date. He rummages about in a pocket before withdrawing a small sachet, from which he breathes deeply.
Before it is then tucked away once more. Grabbing the side of the cart, he rocks it off towards a side track, angling away (hopefully) from some of the rockfall. Glimmering particles of light seem to drift a moment in the air.

DG: Seraph Harmaus has used his Tool Valerian Root toward his party's challenge, Bringing Down The Roof.

<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lanval has posed.

With the cart being on a track, it seems that their fate could be certain... but somehow, Eleanor picks the right timing to start zapping ice into the air to blast and push away rocks here and there. Her accuracy is startlingly good - she even manages to zap a rock right the moment it appears! Her rodslingin' skills are fantastic! She's really timing it! (Let's not get carried away, though.)
"It hashn't tried ta kill ush yet, though," Lanval remarks back to Clarine between sighs of bubbles, apparently having a broad definition of what constitutes 'trying to kill.' Even so, prismatic bridges of light dump some more rocks off to the side... but there is one ahead that crashes down right in front of the track. A dead end! Game over, game over--
Nope! Harmaus' body does a lot of cart rockin', and things get super crazy! If anyone isn't hanging on, they'd better. (Lanval isn't.) Nearly everyone comes shy of tumbling right on out of the cart as it is hopped onto the nearby track, avoiding a certain collision.
Lanval, despite being disrupted and tossed about, gracefully falls right back along inside the cart like he were still at peace and comfort.
"...Well, I'll hand ya that much, mosht shpidersh don't talk, I found," he thinks back to times on Lunar where there were plenty of rats, spiders, and... others. He did say 'most,' though. Did Lanval have a talking spider friend?
...Who knows, who cares, that one is still getting away with their prize!!!

DG: Eleanor Klein has drawn a new Challenge.

Ahead of you on your path in the dim light, a waystation comes into view. A
small platform with a console or two and a loading platform it seems like
this would be where materials were catalogued by old operators into systems
long since dormant. Nothing but empty metal crates remain at the station
otherwise, and a scrap remnant of an old Reaverbot, one with a large pronged
 arm.

The cart comes to a screeching halt, even as the Bospider continues to flee
down the wall. of the chasm. A moment to catch your breath, but you got to
catch up and get the minecart moving again! One of the consoles lit up as
the transport docked. Perhaps you can get it moviing again quickly with a
 bit of work...
=Dungeon Conditions: Save Point===============================================
<Pose Tracker> Eleanor Klein has posed.

"Right, if we catch up..." Well. Maybe not destroy it. But take the refractor back!! In the meantime, Eleanor does take a moment to be pleased with herself over the fact that her aim is good today. Unfortunately though as they go... There's a problem.

Eleanor clings to the cart as they almost tumble out, but it starts slowing, and screeeeching to a halt after this talk of spider friends, clearly an omen. "Um?? That's--"

The waystation looms above them, full of all sorts of empty crates and scrap with a large pronged arm. The terrible Bospider continues to flee ahead!! ...From here, though, they have a good angle to pick up more speed; they can breathe a moment. But Eleanor doesn't stop for that!

"Oh, the thing lit up.... Maybe..." Eleanor pulls her boomerang, and focuses, drawing magical energy to pour into it to throw it forward and use it to better see--

...And stays totally still for the next few moments, as she instead sees something altogether different that leaves her, after those long moments, turning to look warily at Harmaus in obvious mistrust.

...On the other hand, her boomerang might hit a button! Any other ideas??

<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lanval has posed.

Lanval is at last taken out of his bubbling rest as the realistic results of not having a seatbelt hurtles him up front where he leans forward inside the cart next to Eleanor, making wheezy noises. They're kind of silly since he doesn't need to breathe, but as someone who does so as something of a hobby, it seems like he's getting great practice impersonating a pained wheeze.
He slinks down, faces away, and clutches the drinking gourd in both arms as he makes sure it's being held upright.
"...I don't think we hit shomethin'... did weeee," Lanval asks as he keeps a hand on top of the gourd. "Mmm..."
He doesn't quite follow what Eleanor is talking about when it comes to 'that thing' being lit up, resting his head against the edge of the cart and tilting his gaze upward while he is now wearing those stupid novelty glasses that ruin the dramatic tension of every cutscene they're in.
They reflect some other lights above, that might help mean something or another.

DG: Seraph Lanval has used his Tool Amber Tinted Glasses toward his party's challenge, Regulated Union Break.
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Clarine has posed.

Fortunately, they avoid getting crushed by rocks! Clarine is pleased. Soon enough, however, she finds that their ride has stopped in its tracks! Clarine looks around, her head tilted to the side in confusion.

"...Ah. It would appear that we have stopped again..." She observes. She reaches into her sleeves, bringing out a sphere of pure, clear crystal. She lets it rise into the air where it begins to shine, shedding light over the area - light that reveals falsehoods and uncovers hidden truths. Maybe it'll reveal something they've missed...?

But, failing that, Clarine turns to the panel, and after a moment of hesitation...

"Um...we really ought to get moving. Can you let us go...?" She asks it politely. Hey, sometimes it could help!

DG: Seraph Clarine has used her Tool Brilliant Sphere toward her party's challenge, Regulated Union Break.
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Harmaus has posed.

He's still gripping the side as the cart screeches to a halt. Then, with grace unbecoming a man of his (apparent) age, he vaults himself right over the edge. "Now, now, then," he murmurs, craning his neck to see what's above. His brow narrows.

And he draws then, letting fly a shot for one of the distant buttons above from one of the ARMs holstered at his hip.

"What will happen now, we wonders," he remarks, twirling the ARM in his left hand before sliding it home once again.

    "Light, movement..."

    He trails off.

    "Oh?"

Harmaus, it seems, has noticed that he is the recipient of some attention from the young elf. He turns after a moment and tilts his head slightly to his right. "It stares at us. What does it see?" Harmaus says then, addressing the apparent elephant in the room.

DG: Seraph Harmaus has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward his party's challenge, Regulated Union Break.
<Pose Tracker> Eleanor Klein has posed.

Between Lanval's glasses reflecting lights above, and Clarine's orb illuminating the way--casting four more buttons into further brilliance, beside those blinking under Lanval's lights--there is a great deal of magical assistance available for the solving of this particular technological conundrum. One of these is the one that Harmaus shoots.

The boomerang hits another, and they continue to glow. Moments pass, and in the next, Eleanor watches Harmaus, and Harmaus watches Eleanor in turn. "..."

"...Nothing," she lies after a moment. "You just seemed very familiar all of a sudden." Her voice is a little subdued, Clarine in particular would be able to note--but after that Eleanor climbs out of the cart and presses the other illuminated buttons.

It gives both her and Harmaus time to get back in... and once again, they're off. "...So what did you say your name was?" she asks the 'old man'.

DG: Eleanor Klein has used her Tool Hunter's Boomerang toward her party's challenge, Regulated Union Break.

A giant Reaverbot such as the Bospider has never been one to be chased, and
has always been the one to do the chasing. It does not like this change of
events one bit, as the large red eye flashes on the right side of its head.

Small ports on the back of the Reaverbot's abdomen fly open, and a salvo of
small missiles fly out as it crawls down the mines! The Scramble Missiles
fly out and around in erratic patterns, but one thing is for sure-- they are
coming for you and your minecart! Better deal with them, fast!
=Dungeon Conditions: Fright===================================================
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Harmaus has posed.

    "Familiar, ah?"

In this moment, with the buttons above hit, with the panels lit, it is otherwise silent, the only other sounds that of the air moving through the tunnels, the distant rattle of their target. A drip, somewhere nearby.

"Familiar, familiar is as familiar does. It wonders us, has it seen us before, say? Or our like?" Harmaus regards her, as curious as a cat and with the smile to match. "Yah, well."

But he climbs into the cart, slipping in behind the rest of them as they settle in.

    "Harmaus."

A simple answer, for someone who appears to enjoy alternating between cryptics and direct statements.

The cart rattles on down the track. They pick up speed quickly -- perhaps a boost from the waystation stopover. And soon, there--!

The Bospider. Not terrible far ahead. If they keep at this speed, they should be able to catch it--

Assuming it doesn't just unload an array of missiles right into their collective faces.

    Yeah, that's not great.

"Its aim is good?" Harmaus asks, over the din of the encrouching barrage. "Or bad? Poor time for bad! It learns quick!"

There is, incongruously, a tiny little tinkling of a similarly tiny bell. It hangs, a moment, from the man's right hand by a red string.

A few of the missiles seem to almost slow in their flight.

DG: Seraph Harmaus has used his Tool Amulet Bell toward his party's challenge, Better Scramble!.
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lanval has posed.

The cart takes off again! This time Lanval is a bit better prepared for sudden stops and gos, if only so much as he gently rolls across the cart to the back of it. He 'lands' sitting upright, rather than in a weird contorted heap that can be visually distressing to watch for those unaware of the flexibility of his manifestation.
A big red eye flashes on the right side of its head. Lanval, with something approaching excitement, stands up.
"Mmmm... hey there, ya shee ush? Heyyyy!" He calls, drunkenly slurring as ever. "Shlow doooown! I'll show ya shomethin' fun 'bout th--"
It opens up its abdomen and missiles fly out. One of them explodes harmlessly, dispelling the notion that it's anything but a hostile response.
"...Yer gonna play that way, huh," he says to thin air, because the Bospider ain't there to listen to him as his eyes open half-way and the stupid smile on his face fades. "All right. 'm gonna make shure they don't come near," he says as he withdraws a shining white bottle. Harmaus and Clarine know what it is - a Holy Bottle! The Lunarian all-purpose hostile element repellant! Just spray its contents and almost every malefic thing, no matter how odd it may be, is less inclined to come to them!
He flicks a wrist to send shining, sanctified water spraying ahead--
--which, given their speed, mostly just splashes back on Lanval--
--and the remainder draws the line in the proverbial sand by splashing down on the mine tracks well past where the cart's racing past.
     ...
He stands motionless, as if now realizing what was wrong with this brilliant plan of his.

DG: Seraph Lanval has contributed a Combat Basic Action toward his party's challenge, Better Scramble!.
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Clarine has posed.

Clarine notes that subdued tone to Eleanor's voice. She's not quite sure what it entails, but Eleanor's instincts were usually trustworthy. It's something to keep an eye on.

Fortunately, the minecart is soon able to get moving again. ...And, it looks like they're starting to catch up! ...But, the spider recognizes this too, and responds by launching a salvo of missiles at them.

It's a direct act of aggression, and Clarine... responds by drawing out a length of silvery cloth and throwing it over herself. It won't help all that much, but it might at least make some of the missiles try to avoid her.

Not that she's using it solely to avoid getting hurt, of course. It'll help her maintain her concentration, too. A sphere of light appears before her... and then, with a gesture, it emits a salvo of searing beams, looking to cut right through any missile they hit before they can reach them.

DG: Seraph Clarine has used her Tool Lightbending Veil toward her party's challenge, Better Scramble!.
<Pose Tracker> Eleanor Klein has posed.

Eleanor continues watching Harmaus. Drip, drip. She is in the cart again before he gives her his name, and she turns back her head towards him again. "...All right, Harmaus. Thank you."

She does not elaborate now. Quite the opposite, she pulls a small notebook after that, and begins writing something, as if taking notes on the dungeon itself, as they go on further once again. Except to pause, and look over Lanval. "You okay?" she asks him, despite having seen him now and then. "Oh, don't--"

...It was a worthy effort, with the bottle. Really! But as the others make their own defenses, Eleanor pulls a strange bronze-y flute, and begins to play a haunting tune on it, in hopes of disturbing the missiles, making it harder to target them, or maybe just making ti better if that happens. It's hard to say!

But the tune is unsettling and soothing at once...

DG: Eleanor Klein has used her Tool Eerie Flute toward her party's challenge, Better Scramble!.

You finally catch up to the reckless arachnid Reaverbot, and are neck and
neck with it as you both go down the mining trench together. The path begins
to narrow, and soon there is barely a gap between the two sides.

The Bospider is forced downward to your level due to deployed equipment
still clinging to the walls after centuries, and then forced to climb on
your side of the chasm as more equipment becomes prevalent!

The Reaverbot is feet away from you, but its underside is facing you! Its
ability to counterattack relies on the outer abdomen facing its opponents,
and has left itself wide open to attack! Now is the time to get your
 treasure back!
=Dungeon Conditions: Fright, Exhaust==========================================
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Harmaus has posed.

"Our pleasure," Harmaus remarks, his gaze on her still.

    "Yes. Indeed.

They gain on the spider; Lanval calls out to it once again. "A display that dazzles and enchants, maybe -- but which the observer, it or us?" Harmaus murmurs, as if to comment on Lanval's continued entreaties towards the Reaverbot. "We thinks it does not want to see, so it does."

The missiles fly. Lanval has a ready rejoinder for the attack on their persons.

"Ah," Harmaus remarks mildly from the back as the bottle is let fly, spraying its contents over all and sundry. "Clever, clever!"

His gaze, as he continues holding his position at the back of the cart, bell jingling while the cart continues to fly down the tracks, flits down at Clarine as she crouches under her veil. He raises an eyebrow, his lips curled into an almost amused smile.

Beams of light take out a bevy of the missiles.

Light is joined by light, a streaming cloudy pale white tongue of flame that jumps from where Clarine's beams strike to encircle and annihilate several more of the projectiles.

Joining the bell's continued chime is the sound alone of Eleanor's flute. A swarm of them stream right on past the cart and hit the walls in an explosion of fire. Harmaus twists back to watch them burn.

<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lanval has posed.

"...'m fine," Lanval remarks, as if ready to laugh at his own folly, but Harmaus brings up an excellent and ultimately correct point. "Mmmm... I dunno," he tells Harmaus, "there'sh at leasht one I know that'sh... shoooorta like thish one. They don't look like a shpider... but. Mortalsh talk with 'em, they talk back. Makesh shenshe ta me it'd talk back if it heard--"
Before he can explain the likenesses he's drawing between the Bospider and whoever he's referring to. The route takes a sudden, jarring, sharp drop that should alarm anyone there - but they're still on a track, and that's a good thing, because it's a fast track. A thrilling, roller coaster-like fast track whose sharp change in angle ensures they catch up with the escaping Reaverbot. It is scuttling along a strange track - a series of wires that occasionally have perpendicular rods shoot out for it to travel, that recede and reappear at random. Whatever the chance, it aligns itself as such that its business end is not facing the cart as it scuttles on the left-hand side.
It opens up one red eye on its underside - wow this has a lot of weird places for eyes - as its prize remains safely(-ish) on the opposite end of it, so there is no risk of anyone accidentally damaging the refractor crystal if anyone feels like voicing displeasure with its activities via violence.
"Heyyyy," Lanval calls to it as he stands right up in the cart. Water likes to be at rest, and so does he. Under pressure, water can be forced upward. This is water standing the hell up.
"Ya really should shlow down," he remarks, still slurring but with a greater steadiness in his voice as he stands at the edge and puts a hand down on the cart. It rocks and rumbles on a rougher, less-intact patch of the track. He still holds upright. "...I ashked really nicely. I don't like what yer doin'."
Bospider does not respond, other than making ineffective attempts to switch tracks, for there's no other track for it to scuttle. Lanval's eyes open half-way as he takes his hand off the side of the cart, hefting his drinking gourd in both his hands as he takes it by the rope. It looks like a simple little thing in which to hold a favored beverage, but now - it holds a piece of the very water of Filgaia itself.
He gives it a swing. No matter how small and compact it might look, it's as deadly a mace as the heaviest arms available to a mortal, as the Bospider may soon find out if it makes contact. Water spills everywhere in the swing - even more if it makes contact.

DG: Seraph Lanval has used his Tool Holy Bottle toward his party's challenge, The Broad Side of a Giant Mecha Spider.
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Clarine has posed.

They're gaining on it rapidly. They're close now, rapidly gaining on the Bospider. Near enough to fight it. Clarine elects to take a different approach this time, rather than launching another attack at it. Still concealed beneath her Lightbending Veil, Clarine concentrates as she prepares another spell. She straightens up, a glyph of light appearing beneath her feet.

"Hasten the pulse's flow!" Clarine incants, and then, with a gesture... Enhance Cast!"

Yellow light tinged with violet spreads out from her position, settling over the party. Anyone who casts spells - offensive or defense - will find the magic coming to them quicker and with more intensity, increasing their effectiveness overall. It should help speed things up a bit, before it's allowed to escape again.

DG: Seraph Clarine has used her Tool Lightbending Veil toward her party's challenge, The Broad Side of a Giant Mecha
Spider.
<Pose Tracker> Eleanor Klein has posed.

"I'm not sure it wants anything," Eleanor admits of the spider, "Except maybe that Refractor."

But while she might wince at the explosions of the missiles, Eleanor continues to play, even as the bell jingles. She plays, and the musicc cuts out as a sharp drop hits--but they're still on track. A very, very fast track, indeed, and Eleanor reaches out to hang onto the side. "Aah," she vocalizes, sure to keep her balance. But then Lanval stands.

So Eleanor will have to do the same. She resumes her song, this time more intent, low back-and-forth on the flute like a song from a different kind of ruin completely. She plays it just long enough to try to weaken the enemy--but then...

When Clarine incants her enhancement, Eleanor can't help but rise to the occasion. "Quail at the recollection of your own misdeeds!" she calls, a crest in hand that blazes with light of Fray and Wing before a bolt of something like lightning erupts for their foe--...and then another. And another, since it's so quick and easy to cast them right now.

DG: Eleanor Klein has used her Tool Eerie Flute toward her party's challenge, The Broad Side of a Giant Mecha Spider.
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Harmaus has posed.

"It not talk yet," Harmaus observes, as they close on the spider machine. "It not do anything except steal. Run. Attack."

It's then that the embodied Seraph wonders, "What wants a spider automaton with a Refractor?"
    What, indeed.

"It not slows. What now?" he observes, only for that smile to again creep onto his face when Lanval says says he doesn't like what it's been doing.

"Now. Now we see," he murmurs, voice low.

As Lanval lets fly with the bottle.

    As Clarine works an arte.

As Eleanor casts her spell with her crests. He watches her still, almost idly so, in spite of their current situation.

Harmaus still has the bell in hand. He doesn't move otherwise.

It chimes out one singular note.

A note that hangs in the air. A note that says many things in that single ringing tone.

    Calm.

    Peace.

    Annihilation.

...Perhaps the last may be yet at hand.

DG: Seraph Harmaus has used his Tool Amulet Bell toward his party's challenge, The Broad Side of a Giant Mecha Spider.

<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lanval has posed.

What happens when a hostile entity bares its underside to four different forces of no small amount of power between them... would be a bloodbath, but this doesn't seem to have any blood.
Metal crunches as the bottle strikes against the Bospider to an electric squealing as he staggers with the inertia of the blow comically, opening up the way as Clarine follows up with sorcerously charged energy - an empowering light that magnifies and brightens the spells that come to follow.
Eleanor plays the flute, and there is something odd about the note that causes the Bospider to shudder. Something cracks from within before Eleanor combines the two Crests to a lightning spell that courses through it. It staggers onto a slightly more distant track, teasingly nearing out of reach...
A singular note chimes. There is an eerie calm, in that the cart is steady. Peace, in that the underground air feels clearer. Annihilation...
...the Bospider suddenly drops down further. Is it defeated? Lanval stands up and looks over the edge of the cart.
"...Where'd it go?" Lanval asks. "...It didn't fall behind ush, did it...?"
...Where did it go? They struck decisive blows against it, but...?

--------------------------< Challenge Information: >--------------------------
You lay into your opponent with everything you have, but the giant spider
robot is still online. With the heavy damage it has taken, it flies into an
all out flight away from you, crashing through equipment higher up to get
out of fighting range, damaging itself further. Yet ahead of you, you
clearly see the end of the line for your minecart ride. A large loading bay
with tracks only going left and right. And the path ahead of the chasm
opens, and is full of large, web-like wire patterns. Its lair. If you are
going to stop it, now is the time!

The control panel flickers into existence again. <Loading equipment, ready
for command.> Among the loading equipment, a massive claw used to hoist
giant loads onto transports is at the last stop. The rock it is anchored to
seems cracked and unstable. Perhaps with a little coordination and effort,
you can keep this thief from making off with your loot!
=Dungeon Conditions: Stupify==================================================
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Clarine has posed.

The Bospider crawls away, but it's sparking and sputtering smoke. It's clearly on its last legs... but, not so much that it can't try to escape. It moves away with surprising speed, crashing through mining equipment as it does.

It's getting away... and, their cart's last stop is rapidly approaching. If they want to to deal with it, now's the time.

...But, there's something up ahead that might help with that. There's a massive claw up ahead for loading transports, and the rock it's anchored to is worn and unstable with age.

"...If... we can drop that machine into its path, we may be able to stop it completely..." Clarine considers. She brings out that clear sphere once more, this time using light to shed it on the machine and its anchoring point, to make aiming easier.

DG: Seraph Clarine has used her Tool Brilliant Sphere toward her party's challenge, What Clawdacity!.
<Pose Tracker> Eleanor Klein has posed.

Oh no!! It's getting away!!

"Oh--" Focusing on not that terrible bell but also not on Lanval's bottles... "It's there!" The question is answered already. But Clarine mentions the machine there, and Eleanor sees the panel. Loading equipment, ready for command. "Hmm, well..."

Eleanor begins tapping at it, using her boomerang as--Well okay, she's fidgeting with it in her other hand as she taps away for nerves, because she doesn't actually know how this thing works and she's not sure most of them can actually touch it. "Quickly quickly..." She eyes upward--"Okay, I'll get a closer look, and then we can do it!"

Eleanor hurls her boomerang forward, Mystically tapping into its magic again to see up closer when the Bospider meets the right line.

DG: Eleanor Klein has used her Tool Hunter's Boomerang toward her party's challenge, What Clawdacity!.
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lanval has posed.

Lanval's attention shifts as their target starts crashing through everything. It wasn't talking, it certainly wasn't listening, but now the way it seems to run into everything it's as though it were afraid. He doesn't like that, as it shows a shred of something that can be (and on his part, is) confused for an emotional presence.
"...Mmmm." Lanval leans forward. One of the lenses of his stupid novelty glasses has fallen out, but they always do. What's not clear is where he's getting more, but that's something that can wait, as something else reflects off of that single lens... hey, that might be another control panel that needs hitting!

DG: Seraph Lanval has used his Tool Amber Tinted Glasses toward his party's challenge, What Clawdacity!.
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Harmaus has posed.

The sound rings on and on--

Until Harmaus palms the bell, huffing out a breath in the silence that follows.

"Not dead, yet," he answers Lanval, after a fashion. "It eludes us. Then, where is it?"

The rattling sound of it in its retreat provides some clue. Harmaus' gaze follows it first, then snaps off towards the machine Clarine sights, hanging above.

"Ah. It blocks the path, it goes no further." He glances towards Clarine. "It illuminates."

He goes for his holstered gun.

    "We shoots."

    He takes aim and--!

DG: Seraph Harmaus has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward his party's challenge, What Clawdacity!.

The sound of steel hitting steel keens through the mines, and the Bospider
is forced violently to the sturdy platforms of the loading bay. Its stutters
and screeches, but it has taken far too much damage to continue, and the
eyes go dark. The red eye dims slowly, much like an old CRT screen. Out of
its jaws drops the Refractor you fought so hard to obtain!

Glinting from the sparking energy from the spider construct, one can see a
large cluster of orb shapes in the dark nearby, surrounded by wire webbing.
When you first see it, you think they could be eggs...! But your senses come
to you. Reaverbots can't lay eggs! Investigation reveals a large cache of
 Sphere Charges!

Nearby is a planning table that still stands. The tools upon it are
weathered but serviceable. Most papers and recorded devices are reduced to
dust at this point, their imprint on the table being the only sign there was
something there at all. One remains still. Made from some kind of alloy
pressed foil thin, it has no signs of age. Upon it seem to be material lists
to build... something. It looks like some sort of hulking Reaverbot or other
construct. Tripedal, with two massive arms, and an arched spine supporting
the upper section. The spine and shoulders have menacing spikes upon it. It
can't be too dangerous at least, as the plans don't account for a head or
 eyes.

(OOC: Sphere Charges are round explosives utilized by both Diggers of Aquvy
and Reaverbots as grenade-like weapons and explosives for clearing spots in
Ruins. The charges make for good Combat or Brute Tools, and if used in
combat, Area or Interrupt Flags are recommended when used as a Deathblow.
There are enough to take plenty, and dismantle to create a schematic for
 reproduction.)
