  • Summary: Clarine takes her new Gear out for a spin, and takes a moment to appreciate the little things in life...

Through the valley, a Gear shaped liked a cricket hops. It's somewhat smaller than the average Gear, but this combined with its vibrant color scheme and more rounded shape helps give it a friendly feel. Each hop is emphasized with a flutter of translucent wings - extending the Gear's airtime and allowing its hops to reach greater distance, while at the same time helping it achieve a more delicate landing.

Despite its unusual form, the strangest thing about it is that it does not appear to have a cockpit. There is a door on the side, opening to a compartment with storage space and seating for a group, and a hatch on its back just above the wings containing a single red, sphere-shaped rotary-wing maintenance drone, but neither leads to any evident control space.

Nor does it need one.

For the truth is... this Gear is currently possessed by one Seraph Clarine. It was not originally made with the intent of control by Seraphim possession, of course - instead once upon a time being controlled from an external facility that no longer functions - but she finds it ideal for her use.

Much of the last few weeks had been spent practicing her ability to pilot it. The Gear had spent some time with ARMS staff for a short time after she, Eleanor, and Marivel had found it on a mission to an island with Sylvaland's waters, as they went over it thoroughly to ensure its safety and to get it properly cleaned up and outfitted, but ever since then her time had been spent familiarizing herself with it.

She was vaguely aware of events in the world turning dire, having made sure to keep in touch to avoid the risk of losing track of time - a real potential problem for the Seraphim - but had elected to stay out of it to focus on her practice. Can she truly be blamed for being excited about this new novelty? There's something wonderful about piloting it - the way it moves, the wondrous sensation of leaping through the air, the wind whistling through the Gear as it soars.

She had soon discovered another advantage to a machine like this, as well - experienced now as the Gear finds a series of mountainous ridges in its way. It backs up and pauses for a moment, antennae twitching as it gauges the height... and then, the Gear leaps high into the air from ridge to ridge, until finally it reaches the top.

There, with a golden flash, Clarine appears, sitting atop the head of the cricket-shaped Gear. From here, the landscape seems to stretch on for quite a while - though scarred in the same way much of Filgaia is, it is still quite a sight to see from such a height. Clarine reaches into one of her sleeves, drawing out an old-timey camera. An antique, with burnished bronze... but also a gift from a precious friend.

Clarine raises the camera as she was taught, taking a moment to gauge the scope of her shot. The lighting, fortunately, won't be an issue - that is something she would never have a problem. And, after a moment of appreciation, she captures the sight of the landscape below. Soon enough Clarine beams, pleased, and stows the camera away safely once more to the space within her sleeve where all of her belongings are stored.

Satisfied, Clarine gives the cricket-shaped Gear a friendly, thankful pat on the head. Some part of her hopes that it can appreciate the gesture, even though she knows it isn't capable of such things. It deserves that much.
