"What are we doing here? Are you going to eat that?"

Background

A boy of mysterious origins, Animal is almost assuredly not his given name, but the boy who many claim was raised by the monsters of the Badlands utterly lacks in civility and fully lives up to the name in many ways. As of a few months ago, he showed up outside Adelhyde, and has been going to digs with Drifters ever since. He has no apparent memories of his family, but if pressed, will offer that he has faint memories of his mother before she disappeared. He either doesn't talk about the subject frequently because it makes him uncomfortable, or because he has so few memories of that time before. It goes without saying however, that whoever his parents were, they were likely exceptional.

If one travels deep enough in to the Badlands they might find Animal's hut, a place of a rather bizarre collections of things.

Odds and Ends in his Hut:

  • Scutum doll from the Temple of Rejection. Appearing as a beautiful woman, Animal has a life-like doll wearing red and blue armor.
  • Funerary cape from Rujm el-Hiri. Animal only really wears it when it's cold, but this is his fourth piece of clothing. Behind his headband, vest, and shorts. It is matte black and does well to hide him in the darkness, but it has no unnatural properties that he knows of.
  • A currently dysfunctional gear from the battle front outside of the Temple of the Guardians.
  • Magic mushrooms.
  • A pirate hat he won by besting a Kobold Pirate Kaptain in the Krosse Kaves.
  • A magical Kool Whip that keeps his drinks cold with symbolic magic.
  • An ancient sword he uses to cut up meat.
  • A disturbing wolf statue that causes an overwhelming feeling in those who behold it. It guards his cookie jar.

Powers and Abilities

Stronk: Far stronger than any boy his size and age ought to be. He periodically carries very heavy objects around for fun, and will gladly sell these relics and the pieces of relics he has ripped off of their whole, for the price of a meat pie.

No Fighting Prowess: Animal has no training to fight. Any and all damage he might inflict, is because he's really strong. He has a natural aptitude of sorts for fighting, but bringing down wild animals in the Badlands (his only opponents most of his life) teaches a wholly different set of skills than fisticuffs with an armed opponent.

Fast Runner: When everyone else uses travel powers, Animal runs, or walks everywhere. His feet are practically black because of it, and he's pretty quick.

Eats Anything: Eating anything and everything that isn't nailed down enabled Animal to survive where most folks can't.

Wild Regeneration: Animal seems to possess a regenerative power that heals his wounds rather rapidly.

Wind Medium: No idea what to do with this, so far.

Relationships

Animal has no real conception of friendship or enemies, he knows some people are more friendly than others, and he has sort of begun to develop a bit of a moral code, but he doesn't really see people like civilized folk do. Too many years of living in the wild, with only his stomach and his will to survive to guide him have taught him that the defining trait of a person is their willingness to share a meal, and whether they try to bite him. Once they stop trying to fight him, he tends to let bygones be bygones. Being more exacting than that would require him to understand political situations which are beyond his understanding for the time being, and asking questions which are even more complex, since he tends to take most statements at face value. Deception, religion and personal beliefs are all things that are alien to him.

A rock is a rock. A thing he can eat, is a thing he can eat. Things are, or are not.

People Who Bought Animal Food

  • Layna -- Layna Manydays is the one solid repeat acquaintance (not a word he would use) that Animal has made, and since they seem to get along well enough, she has been helping him in a manner, to find work as a drifter by taking him to a few digs now and again. Which is more than most people have done.
  • Lailah -- She's pretty and she bought Animal food the first time they met, without even asking him for anything.
  • Talise -- She's so pretty it makes Animal's teeth hurt.
  • Sephilia -- She's cool.

People Who Haven't Bought Animal Food

  • Ethius --The leader of the expedition to the Heal Berry Cave. Animal didn't really get an impression of the guy, he didn't seem too shocked when Animal ate a lizard, so he has that going for him. But then later, he ate food that was way over cooked, and that sort of chilled Animal's appreciation for him.
  • Morgan -- Animal thought he was sort of cool with his fox-ears, and he knew how to fight properly, which Animal appreciates.
  • Lemina -- She used a lot of magic, which Animal doesn't understand.
  • Yarobeleedt - The weird guy. Animal has been on a few successful digs with the weird guy who can climb on walls, which is something that Animal very much wants to learn to do.
  • Ambrosius - Animal doesn't know what to make of this guy, but he was there when they went through the temple with the weird dolls.
  • Sephilia -- She's cool.
  • Lord Chauncey of Foxington -- Cooler than Sephilia, and a great conversationalist.
  • Asteroid -- She is the only one who eats meat pies faster than he does. He must get faster.
  • Corwynt -- He promised to tell Animal about the goddess Althena. Which is pretty cool. He's never met a goddess before, but he thinks they're probably like guardians, which he thinks he might have met. Maybe?
  • Ebon Zero -- She and Animal fought for a bit outside of the Temple of the Guardian. He wasn't sure why, and she didn't hurt him too much, so he has decided to let bygones be bygones.
  • Fenris -- At first she seemed crazy, but then he figured out that she could see the invisible animal spirits the whole time, so maybe she's just magical.
  • June -- She seems nice, and she has a metal leg, which is pretty cool.
  • Avril -- She knows about stuff, and that's good to know.
  • Dean -- He's a wise soul.
  • Fei -- When we were sliding down the dune, he made for a good sled!
  • Josephine -- She owes Animal a meal.
  • Zed -- He was really good with a sword. That's pretty cool.
  • Elena -- She was really nice to Animal.
  • Precis -- Super-fixer who is going to help Animal make his house-gear a reality.
