"A warm meal and a stiff drink are all fine and good, but sometimes you want a little more out of life... like your own private island."

Scarlet's is a life defined by adversity and struggle. Orphaned in the Celesti civil war, Scarlet, a young fox beastfolk girl, was unwillingly drafted into the Aquvy Union's Gene Driver program. She survived, gaining the ability to control and interface with nanomachine ARMs. When the program shut down she was cut loose, finding herself in Guara Bobelo where she was forcibly drafted, again, into a thieves' guild. She was further trained in stealth and thievery, her enhanced reflexes making her a rising star in the guild. She also became a talented ARMs meister, which was a useful cover for her more illicit activities. Forced to pay off a debt to the guild she eventually realized would never be satisfied, Scarlet organized one last heist to free herself, cut her ties, and get out of Guara Bobelo once and for all. Exploring Energy Nede, Team Rocket caught her eye, and Scarlet is looking to use them to further her own goals of finally making a fortune for herself.

Background

Early Life

Tawny, later known as Scarlet, has had a hard life. Orphaned at a very young age, she had the misfortune of being taken in by the White Orphanage and subjected to endless experimentation and training as part of the Aquvy Union's Gene Driver program. There she gained the ability to understand and control certain kinds of ARMs, and her reflexes were greatly enhanced. It was a hellish existence, but Tawny developed the drive and determination to survive at all costs.

But eventually the project would be shut down and Tawny cut loose. She found herself on the streets of Gura Bobelo, resorting to petty theft to survive. She was a known pest, but but she only stole enough to get by, usually food and sometimes the occasional dropped coin.

Until one day when she accidentally snagged a bag full of ARM parts. She was horrified when she realized her mistake, and tried to return them, only to be arrested and thrown in a cell. She knew that someone would make an example of her, and she didn't like her prospects. So she used her Gene Driver powers to analyze the lock to her cell and pick it, then fled, intending to escape to some other part of Guara Bobelo and lay low until the heat died down.

She never got that chance.

She got picked up by enforcers from a local thieves' guild and dragged before one of their lieutenants, Jack Rambler. He made very clear that they didn't appreciate being stolen from, and made it very clear just what they were going to do to her. Spotting the bag of ARM parts and a half-assembled gunsmoke ARM, Tawny made a desperate bargain: if she could fix the broken ARM, they'd forget the whole thing and let her go.

Jack was amused enough to give her that chance, reasoning that at most it would just delay the inevitable for a little bit. Tawny used her Gene Driver abilities to analyze, repair, and reconstruct the ARM, much to everyone's amazement. Jack was impressed and made Tawny a better offer: join the guild, and get the benefit of their protection. That protection would come with a cost, of course, but... Tawny could just work that off.

Tawny thought long and hard about it. You didn't make these kinds of deals unless you had the power to enforce them, but... she'd gotten lucky this time. The next time she strayed into someone else's territory and made a mistake... her luck might run out. And so she accepted.

Climbing the Ranks

They started her out small. Running messages, doing small errands. She quickly proved herself to be reliable and they kept giving her more and more responsibility. Acting as lookout, learning how to shill for three-card monte, and eventually to run the game. Eventually they taught her combat and stealth, and much to her delight, how to work with ARMs. Soon enough she was participating in heists and Digs for the guild, and working as an ARMs Meister, which was a useful cover for her more illicit activities.

And for a time... life was pretty good: she had a roof over her head, she no longer went hungry. The Zeboim-era ruins benath Guara Bobelo meant there was plenty of interesting ARMs for her to study and work on. And she was slowly climbing the ranks of the guild, and had even earned the nickname 'Red Robber' for her skills and cunning. There was an ever-growing debt that she had with the guild for various reasons... but that didn't seem to matter, when she was content where she was.

Eventually she received word that the guild was looking for a new lieutenant. Tawny figured she'd be a shoo-in for the new position, as something of a rising star within the guild.

Striking Out

She didn't get it.

It just didn't make sense, and when she looked into it further, she found out Jack Rambler had blocked her from the position. Angry, she confronted him over it, and Jack spelled it out for her: simply put, she was too useful to him to let her go. And if she didn't get with the program, well... there was word of soldiers looking for those with powers similar to the 'Demon Soldiers' of the war, such as, say, those with an unusual facility with ancient ARMs or excellent physical capabilities.

Tawny took the hint and backed off, but internally she was fuming. All at once she realized the cage she was still in, even if it had been a comfty one. It was time for a change, for her to seek her own fortune instead of simply earning one for others. And so she planned, toeing the line until she was ready to make her move.

One last heist, and she cut her ties with both Jack Rambler and the guild and got out of Guara Bobelo.

She took the name Scarlet Wilde for herself to get a fresh start and distance herself from her past as much as possible. She spent some time traveling the world, hiring herself out for Digs and working as a traveling ARMs Meister . Along with some judiciously placed theft here and there, of course.

Eventually she caught wind of the rift connecting Filgaia to Energy Nede and headed for Energy Nede, wanting to see this new world for herself. A whole world where most peoples' needs were met and noone had to go hungry... some might call it paradise, but Scarlet saw a world full of marks. But she explored, taking in more of the world and all of its advancements, and eventually Team Rocket piqued her interest.

A criminal organization that wanted wealth and power were appealing, of course, but the way they conducted themselves... big flashy jobs, uniforms with a logo on them, publically calling out their /names/... it was ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous.

And she couldn't help but smile at the audacity of it. They got results, after all, and, well... she liked being a bit audacious herself.

Blasting Off

She started to study Team Rocket in earnest, their MOs, their typical targets. She learned everything she could about the organization and eventually managed to identify one of their targets ahead of time. And so, she did what came naturally to her: she beat them to the punch.

Scarlet managed to infiltrate Team Rocket's target ahead of them, easily reaching the vault where the loot they wanted to take was stored... and then she cracked the vault and began packing all the loot up into nice, easy-to-carry cases. They'd hardly have to do a thing except pick up the cases and leave, though she did leave one more important item:

Her business card.

It was, in many forms, a message. And all Scarlet had to do was sit back and wait for them to contact her. Which they very quickly did.

Scarlet's pitch was simple. They wanted power, and she could provide it in the form of Filgaian and Lunarian ARMs. She knew how to work with them, how to get them ready for use or to sell them to a buyer, and she had contacts she could use to facilitate those sales, too. (Her prowess as a thief, of course, spoke for itself.) In exchange, all she wanted was a workshop, a fair salary, and opportunities for advancement.

And in very short order, she became Team Rocket's new Gunsmith. Now working on her own terms, Scarlet is ready to seize her future and see just how far she can really go.

Powers and Abilities

Scarlet is, above all else, a master thief. She was an expert in breaching security systems of various kinds, but has also handled every aspect of a job from planning to acting as muscle. Quick-witted and even quicker of hand, she can dual-wield a pair of daggers like few else, shifting effortlessly through a busy battlefield to strike at the weak points of her foes.

And there are also her Gene Driver abilities, of course. Her specialty is analyzing and studying the objects she can hold or touch, plus an ability to interface with Zeboim-era systems. She also has a pistol she can summon forth in times of dire need, that's capable of firing explosive electrical blasts, though she tries to save this as a last resort.

By virtue of both her Gene Driver powers and her traiing, Scarlet is also a highly-skilled ARMs Meister. Her unique ability to understand and analyze them gives her an edge in their upkeep, but she also likes to experiment and build new contraptions of her own, such as a grappling hook gun that has saved her time and again in numerous Digs. Or a pair of electrified daggers that many of her enemies find quite... shocking.
