He Chose...Poorly

Face Who What Why
Ambrose Montagu Professor Ambrose Montagu, Professor at the University in Linga, has been an unusually stable fixture in Noah's otherwise fluid circumstances, a presence that goes back years -- long enough that he's known Noah by other names and heard him spin a hundred different stories about who he is and where he really came from. Montagu's unwillingness to aim his professional interest in ancient history at Noah's own past plays no little part in that longevity of association, and there seems to be some real and genuine fondness between them, though it's a relationship built on affection and exasperation in almost equal measure. For a man of well over sixty years of age, he manages to keep pace with his young friend more ably than most might expect.
Cassicon.jpg Cassidy Cain Little Miss of the Missing Littles Mercurial, reckless, deeply driven people with a taste for excitement and a real horror of dropping anchor: at first glance they're an awful lot alike, separated in character by deeper and less obvious but certainly fundamental qualities. The first time they met she probably saved him from drowning after he was dragged down into the bowels of a sinking riverboat by a half-dead Mercy Killer. Of course, she was the reason the boat sank and the Mercy Killer, who stabbed Noah in the leg, was originally after her, so if asked he'd say it's a wash as far as favors owed. They were on the Mamma Mia for different reasons, but in the end they both got what they wanted, even if the same can't be said for anybody else who was on board at the time. Chances are good that repeat encounters will produce the same results, with the world around them taking the brunt of the consequences for whatever exothermic reaction inevitably follows their occupation of the same space.
Emmaicon.jpg Emma Hetfield Prof A new contact, made as part of an investigation into events surrounding the Artifacts Exhibition. She responded to Noah's characteristic flirting by pouring gas on that fire...and then chucking high explosives into it for good measure. If she hadn't made the mistake of comparing him with a brainless automaton, who knows where things would have gone? For the best, one assumes, with all of the work that needs doing.
Greta Kentwiller Restorer (and forger) of Antiquities An aging hurricane of a woman with several workshops throughout the Badlands. One might think the Badlands are a poor choice of location for a restorer of art objects and ancient artifacts, and one would be right, if one did not also know -- as a very few people do -- that she's also a forger of those very same things. The remote countryside suits her just fine. How she and Noah became acquainted is a story neither one seems to have yet told.
Gwenface.jpeg Gwen Whitlock Courier Noah hired Gwen to help move the substantial amounts of materials and perishables he arranged to stockpile before the catastrophe at Adlehyde. She managed to get the work done in time, and shortly after the incident, Noah handed over to (read: foisted upon) her the supervisory position for distribution of those resources and management of the security forces that Morgan Newkirk arranged through the Adventurer's Guild. The way to Noah's heart is surely through shouldering responsibilities that he'd rather not -- a promising start.
Ida Everstead-Rey ? She was on Layna's ship. Friends with Talise, obviously. Pretty. Didn't say much, though.
Josephine profile.png Josephine Lovelace Client..? Josephine Lovelace turned up in Noah's life just a day or two after Adlehyde burned with a mysterious Zeboim tile and a note of reference from Ambrose Montagu. Working with her promises to throw Noah headfirst into the kind of adventure he lives for, but two people died the first time they met and there might've been a third if she hadn't read Ambrose's letter out loud and convinced Noah to stop holding her at gunpoint. Whether this working relationship bears fruit or ends in tragedy is anybody's guess.
Judeicon2.jpg Jude Moshe Simple Country Reporter Cassidy Cain's partner, and some-time co-conspirator along with Noah and Morgan in the events leading up to the destruction of Adlehyde by the reemergence of the Metal Demons. He's got an exceptionally nice shotgun, a very interesting mechanical companion, and a dry sense of humor that makes him good company. His mellow reserve is nothing at all like Noah's constant need for engagement but he's not uptight, and isn't that what really matters?
Kkicon.jpg K.K. ? Some jerk who stabbed Noah for absolutely no reason. What the hell? Seriously.
Layna Manydays Lunar Ship Captain Somehow wound up sailing her ship straight from the oceans of Lunar into the deserts of Filgaia. Strange things happen to Noah all the time, and even Noah finds that bizarre. Fun fact: they make really good booze on Lunar. Noah is probably still working off the hangover.
Lilyicon.jpg Lily Keil Kislev Medic They met in a bookstore, each researching different intrigues. Information was exchanged. Use may be made of this. ...She sure is a long way from home, though.
Morganicon.jpg Morgan Newkirk Adventurer's Guildy Noah doesn't limit himself to Adventurer's Guild jobs -- he crosses the line of the law regularly -- but the Guild is still a steady source of income for most drifters, and it was through the Guild that he first met Morgan Newkirk, some handful of years ago. Their relationship has been for the most part passing, but Morgan's had enough experience with Noah Hawthorne to expect trouble whenever he turns up. ...Not that it requires much in the way of experience, really.
Taliseicon.jpg Talise Gianfair Lunar Something Noah was investigating reports of a ship crashed in the desert. Turns out it was from Lunar. And he met two other people while he was there. Talise was one of them. Friendly. ...really, really friendly, actually.
Vinicon.jpg Vin Barrett IMPOSTOR There are these terrible books out there about this really over-the-top, ridiculous character called Jack Dove, see, and the author of these books claims that they're based on a real-life Drifter whose exploits were so absurd, so impossible, so bizarre that while she'd wanted initially to write them as a series of biographies, she'd been forced into the bodice-ripping adventure genre because no sane member of the public would ever buy that they were true. She remains mum about the identity of the inspiration for those novels, but recently the covers have started to feature Vin Barrett's face. And Noah, for no reasons he is immediately forthcoming about, finds this supremely irritating.
