Vile Fiends

The Lord of Calamity and her allies bring chaos and misfortune wherever they go. These vile fiends (dubbed such by Althena's Guard, who also names them betrayers, heretics, vermin, criminals, and Acolytes of Calamity, on occasion) are symbols of war, heresy, and even apocalypse: rumors are spreading across Filgaia that this group of demons are the harbingers of the planet's doom, threatening to turn its long, slow demise into a quick, painful one.

Many seek them out for many reasons; some wish to ally themselves to such power, others to claim their bounty or even to destroy their evil because it's the right thing to do. Still others might join them because they're also being wrongly persecuted by Althena's Guard (or Beastmen-hostile Filgaians), or because they find the Vile Fiends' mission compelling once they get to know them a little better.

For their own part, the Vile Fiends (internally, cheekily, the Vile Friends) are seeking a way home to Lunar by exploring the ruins of Filgaia's past, while trying to experience everything the Blue Star has to offer, like the ragtag bunch of space tourists that they are. Some of that experience has been unexpected racism against Beastmen and other demi-humans, who they are quick to support -- and Lucia seems determined to draw them into world-shaking Filgaian conflicts, as well. With all that on their plate, plus staying one step ahead of Althena's Guard (even as they try to convince Leo and his ilk that they're all on the same side!), the Friends are busy, indeed, but never too busy to welcome another refugee or adventurer into their ranks!

Members

  • Hiro, leader and the Evil Lieutenant
  • Ruby, the very definitely actual real leader of the group

Allies

Goals

  • To return to Lunar, which necessitates exploring ruins to find the means to do so.
  • To clear their name with Althena's Guard and recruit them as the allies that they ought to be, or, failing that, to protect others wrongfully accused by them and other oppressive governments like them.
  • To render aid unto Filgaian beastmen and other demihumans, if welcomed; the racism they experience is shocking and unacceptable to the Lunar-native Vile Fiends, who count beastmen among their closest family and friends back home.
  • To explore Filgaia, which existed only as myth and legend to the Lunarians until now, and perhaps offer some of their own culture in trade.
  • Bonus Goal: To protect and strengthen Filgaia; Lucia is very interested in the affairs of the Blue Star, and hanging out with her tends to lead to getting sucked neck-deep into world-shaking quests, just by simple proximity.

Resources

The Vile Fiends have each other, and an ever-increasing collection of wanted posters that they can use to start fires on cold desert nights. Also a fire-starting flying cat. They’re good on fire in general.

If they were on Lunar, they would also have Gwyn’s library, the resources of Vane, and Ronfar’s bottle cap collection at their disposal. Giban’s Caravan tends to offer assistance and a nominal home base in their carnival, where they can hide from Althena’s Guard.

Lucia owns a rad pad on Filgaia (the Black Spire) but it is far away and unavailable. The Blue Spire on Lunar is kind of a target-rich environment at the moment, and not good for sleeping.

Recruitment

Interested in being a Vile Fiend? Please contact Hiro, Jean, Lemina and/or Lucia! Here are some appropriate concepts, though this is by no means an exhaustive list:

  • Other refugees from Lunar who wish to return home.
  • Filgaian archaeologists (and other curious sorts) interested in cultural trade with Lunar.
  • Enemies of Althena's Guard and/or the Shepherd -- including any Guardians who come to see the light eventually!
  • Drifters who are looking for strength in numbers, for protection from pitchfork-wielding Filgaians, governments the Vile Fiends are going to upset anyway, or simply for help exploring the ruins of the world's past.
  • Metal demons and other omnicidal sorts who think that the Vile Fiends are actually vile fiends. (This is not something that can last forever, but it certainly makes for an excellent setup for misunderstandings and unfortunate events.)

Trivia

  • The Vile Fiends were declared such by Leo; the name stuck and they decided to stop pretending otherwise.
