=======================<* November City - Market Street *>========================

November City is the greatest and the largest of the Seed Cities. When it appeared after the Night of Falling Stars, it was already a large settlement, built by the survivors of that day quickly. It has since grown enormously, appealing to people in the Badlands in search of some security and the refugees from failed and lost Seed Cities. Market Street, its main thoroughfare, demonstrates this. On the outskirts of the city, shantytowns and shacks pop up along the street, gradually becoming the larger buildings in the heart of November.

The street is named for the huge market that has sprung up across it, occupying the three and four story brick buildings along each side. It's a wide, paved road (a rare thing in the Badlands) and connected to Central Station, where all of the railways come. Here, one can find anything they want. The laissez-faire nature of November City's government makes the black market an open one, and this is one of the few places where ARMs and stolen goods from Aveh and Kislev can be bought with ease.

There are also saloons, taverns, restaurants, and hotels to be found. November City is a true melting pot, where Drifters from across Filgaia mix with foreign merchants and locals of every class. Men wearing suits brush by peasants in homespun, while Drifters and knights bump into each other. The police force usually prevents outright gunfights in the streets, but November City's officials are infamously easy to bribe.

<Pose Tracker> Rose has posed.

It's another day in November City!

Which means the Sparrowfeathers are out in the sun, doing their thing. Selling clothes, potions, rope and assorted wares - selling services, when people want things delivered or picked up from another city. That might be why one of the two wagons/caravans is missing today, although it seems Rose didn't go with them.

That's why she can be found manning one of the tables, specifically one that's showcasing... tools. Gardening tools. A lot of gardening tools. Some are bloody. Some are rusty. According to the sign, all of them are haunted and authentic.

And judging by the crowd it seems a lot of people are enjoying the novelty of cursed, haunted farming equipment, fresh from a shady farm. Of course, Rose isn't stupid; she's ensured, thoroughly, the items are harmless now. They sure weren't when she, Sorey and the ghost gang encountered them, but now that they're away from the farm it's all good.

<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lailah has posed.

Lailah is out and about today as usual. Staying at the hotel was kind of boring and when Sorey and the others are doing different things, she likes to explore and check out the different people that come through November. It's been awhile since she has seen such a variety of people but actually today she decided to specifically go looking for Rose. There were things that she wanted to discuss with the merchant.

As Lailah passes a number of places, she finally sees the ambitious girl and makes her way there. Most people don't seem to notice her, although there are the occassional people that seem to stare a little. She hadn't really thought about her attire making her stand out until a recent conversation and even though it doesn't make her feel that weird, still she was more aware of it.

Lailah doesn't pull an Edna and suddenly pop out of nowhere but she waves at Rose from a slight distance before she reaches the table. Looking down at the tools, Lailah raises an eye. "Rose... this stuff..." She picks up a supposedly haunted shovel. It looks like a gardening tool but its dirty and caked with something. "Where did you get it?" There is a look of concern in her eyes.

<Pose Tracker> Rose has posed.

Rose appreciates Lailah arriving like a normal human being. More than words can express, in fact! She waves back to the Seraph and instructs someone (probably Rosh) to take over for her while she handles the nitty gritty of ~ghosts~.

"Oh, this? It tried to kill us when we went to investigate some shady farm. There were Hellions there. They animated the tools, or maybe the ambient Malevolence did. They're totally cleansed now! They're too old and battered to be resold as proper tools, so we went the sensational route and decided to sell them as cool collector's pieces and props!"

She says this, reaching to lift an old sickle from the table and show it to Lailah. There's indeed not a trace of Malevolence left. They're just old tools that have clearly been used for less than noble purposes by dark forces. Like ghosts. Actual ghosts.

"Gee, don't give me that look! I wouldn't sell something dangerous, and if it was important to the spirits who aren't at rest I'd have made sure to bury it. It'll be great for those people looking to decorate their houses or do haunted attractions!" Of which she will not partake, thank you.

<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lailah has posed.

"Tried to kill you?!" Now Lailah looks really concerned, especially when Rose mentions Hellions. "Hellions there huh..." The fire seraph seems to think about this for a bit. "That is concerning. I am glad you guys made it out okay." She sighs and puts the shovel back down, shaking her head slightly. At least there was no malevolence she could sense right now.

"Are you sure you wouldn't Rose?" She teases the merchant. "These tools look pretty dangerous to me. I mean look at the sickle you're holding! That looks like it could take an eye out... or worse." Lailah laughs to herself and then adds, "I am surprised you're talking about haunted attractions given your dislike of ghosts." She leans towards the merchant adding a wink, "You know... they're not that bad."

After a few seconds, Lailah steps back from the table and towards the side. "Actually Rose, I came to see you because I wanted to talk to you about a few things. Is this a good time? I know you have work to do." She would understand if Rose said no but it had been awhile since they were able to catch up and it would be good to spend some time with her after all the things that had happened lately.

<Pose Tracker> Rose has posed.

"Mhm, a big one got away though. We're trying to figure out where it ran so Sorey can do his thing." She's still not sure how purification works, but with Lailah present and teasing, that might be a good time to ask about that.

"Hey now! If someone pokes an eye out with this, theirs or someone else's, it's clearly their fault for not knowing how to swing a sickle." Rose demonstrates by swinging the sickle. You know, safely. And then putting it back on the table. "Though some of these are so rusty I don't think they could even cut through butter." On the other hand they look that much more authentic!

Querying if it's a good time, Lailah gets a nod from Rose. "Sure, sure. Rosh, table is yours! I gotta go chat with a ghost."
        Rosh nods without question.

Rose leads Lailah away, laughing. "I'm alright with haunted tools that aren't haunted anymore. That's not the same thing! So what did you need?"

<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lailah has posed.

"Well, that is definitely a problem." Lailah frowns. "I know that hellions have been spotted a lot more lately. Can you tell me more about it. At least what it looked like?" There are so many hellion types but even a vague description could be useful for the future.

"Eh. They look dirty and gross to me. I am not sure why anyone would want these things around but to each his own I guess." She shrugs. "At least you know how to capitalize on strange interests that people have."

"How can you be sure that they're not really haunted anymore Rose? I mean did you do an exorcism on them?" Lailah seems to enjoy teasing her friend a little bit more as they walk away from Rosh and away from the bigger crowds in the marketplace.

"Actually there were a number of things Rose. But I guess the biggest one is did you get the delivery from Ragnell? I am not sure what was in that barrel but I thought you could maybe get some use out of it. Also, do you think you could make me some kind of tool for when we're exploring? I have some things but maybe you have more ideas?" Lailah had spent some time trying to decide on the best thing to add to her collection but couldn't figure anything out.

While they walk, Lailah seems to be thinking about other things as well and offhandedly asks Rose, "By the way, do you think this outfit makes me stand out too much? I mean it's what I always wear but it's so different than most people around here. Maybe I need a change?" Of course, the fire seraph could try and come up with something on her own but having Rose's input seemed like it could be more interesting.

<Pose Tracker> Rose has posed.

"Oh, sure. It was a big plan. Its core seemed to be made of... I don't know, dozens of human hearts, I didn't count. It sprouted these blood red vines across the entire farmhouse and seemed to be trying to grow. Maybe it was eating ambient Malevolence? It was pretty heavy in the air. Felt like something trying to crush my heart. Uncomfortable!" She'll get used to being around Malevolence eventually, but those first few encounters are going to be a bit of a pain.

"Oh, and I know they're clean because Sorey hit them with that... blue fire thingy. Your fire." Wait, delivery OH! "Yes! Yes I did! It's gasoline! Fuel! Liquid what go boom when set on fire. More practically you put it inside Gears or motor vehicles so they run. I haven't sold it yet because... well honestly having a barrel of fuel around might just be the handiest thing. You never know."

Rose grins. "If you put a little bit inside a bottle, you could carry it around and splash it on people before you set them on fire. They'd burn way better and might not have an easy time putting it off." Always about those kinds of uses with her.

As for clothes... "Honestly you Seraphim all stand out, which is ironic considering you're invisible. You all look like you're royalty with your clothes! So bright, colorful, with the regal accents and lines all over. I dig the look, I don't think you should change it if you don't want to! If you do... how do... how do Seraphim wear clothes, anyway? If I made you clothes wouldn't everyone see a floating costume?"

<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lailah has posed.

"A big plant of... hearts and vines." Lailah shakes her head. "Ugh that sounds terrible. If it was somehow feeding off other malevolence..." She knew it could be possible but that means that whatever that things was... it needed to be taken care of as soon as possible. "Where was this place exactly?" She pauses. "Oh yeah, it's going to be hard for awhile to deal with malevolence and the feeling around it. The stronger the hellion or concentration of it, the harder it will be unfortunately. Don't forget though Rose, if it ever is too much, you can step back and let us handle it." There is a warm smile directed at her.

"Oh! Gasoline! I should have figured that was what it was." She shrugs and then as Rose explains what she could do with it, Lailah smiles. "Ah yeah, that could be useful! That stuff had a bad smell though, it would have to be a really well-sealed container." There is definitely a thought there that she could make use of it if Rose would spare some. They had given it to her after all so she would leave it up to her.

Lailah laughs at Rose's remarks about her clothes. "Yeah. I know it was silly and I like this outfit! It's not exactly practical for exploring sometimes though." There is a frown as she considers the amount of times recently where her outfit had seriously been messed up. Still, "Thank you Rose but our clothes start off just like yours." For now, she leaves the subject as she watches a bird nearby, bathing in a puddle on the ground.

"So what about you Rose? Have you been doing okay? I mean... with everything?" She gestures vaguely. "You seem to take things well but thought I would ask anyway. We should practice with the armatus soon. Unless Dezel has helped you?"

<Pose Tracker> Rose has posed.

"It was a farmhouse down south in the middle of nowhere. No landmarks around it. Looked abandoned, might have been for a long time now. No recent traces of slaughter or anything like that. Maybe something happened there a long time ago, and... with us having seemingly brought Malevolence over from Lunar, it finally woke up." That did seem to be what happened. There was none here before they arrived, as far as they all knew.

"Don't worry, I know I can count on all of you. I won't bite more than I can chew."

Then, Rose moves over to the size, picking up a small empty vial from a crate. She shows it to Lailah. "Oh, it'd be like those potions you carry around. We could seal them so that they'll only break if you throw them at something or someone. Just don't mix the healing items and the fuel vials up." That would be bad. "I'm not sure what else I could design for you... truth is, I haven't seen you fight very often! Maybe I'd get a better idea than making you carry flammable fluids if I did."

Rose did need practice dealing with sorcery quite badly.

Then a glance over as Lailah mentions Armatus. "Ah... no. He's a butt, so of course he hasn't been any help! Sheesh, expecting him to be HELPFUL. I'm pretty sure that word isn't even in his vocabulary. I'm... um... still a bit leery about that whole... wearing a Seraph thing." She still hasn't quite figured out Mikleo and Edna were intentionally ribbing on her, no.

<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lailah has posed.

Lailah listens to the description of the farmhouse carefully. Nothing seems to really sound familiar but then again this wasn't Lunar and things were very different here. "Well, you may be correct about that. Malevolence is strange thing and can be very unpredictable." Which makes it all that much dangerous unfortunately.

"I know you won't Rose but I just wanted to remind you that it's okay to take a step back when necessary." Lailah places a gentle hand on Rose's shoulder. "But, I have faith in your abilities too!" She didn't want Rose to feel like she doubted her for a second.

Eyeing the vial that Rose picks up, Lailah hrms. "Oh yeah that could work. Something small and light I think." Lailah considers how she would use it in combat. If only she could figure out a way to imbue it into the paper she uses instead. Lailah laughs. "Well, I am sure you will eventually and then we can both come up with ideas!"

"Oh Dezel..." The fire seraph shakes her head. "Well..." She pauses and raises and eyebrow. "Wearing a-" The look of confusion is clear and then she shakes her head. "Ugh. It's not wearing a seraphim. Those guys..." Lailah is okay with some teasing from time to time but not without a better explanation later.

"It's really hard to explain without doing it Rose. If you want to learn though, and I think you should before we actually need it, we could practice so you know how it works!" Lailah places her hands together, seemingly very excited about being able to teach Rose. With Sorey it had been so sudden. "Maybe with preparation, it wouldn't be so hard on you like it was with Sorey." She smiles, waiting to see what Rose thinks of the idea.

<Pose Tracker> Rose has posed.

"We'll have to figure something out that your powers can't do... you're a Fire Seraph, so maybe giving you more ways to set things on fire isn't the way to go. Maybe we should look at what you CAN'T do, or what you think you could do better. I guess that'll be my part of this trade! You'll show me how Armatus works and let me see how your sorcery goes, and I'll try to come up with a way to add to what you can do!"

That might be challenging, but Rose is up for a challenge.

"I'm... I'm guessing not here. We should probably find somewhere more quiet in case... you know. Throwing fire around and all that." Yes let's not try fire sorcery in the middle of the market district knowing people sell fuel here, among other things. That's a box of fireworks over there, as amusing as it would be.

"Say, there was one last question I had for you. The Flames of Purification. How do they work? Can Alisha and I do that too, or only Sorey? And what did Sorey mean when he said we could help him purify things by "taking" some of the Malevolence? Is he actually... absorbing it? Shouldering it, kind of?"

<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lailah has posed.

"Oh yeah, that makes sense. I guess something that gives me more abilities at my disposal. I will have to think about it though because I am not sure right now!" A pause. "And yeah! That sounds like a fair trade! I would love to help out and if we ask Sorey to come too, I am sure he would have some advice. It's not as strange to me as it would be to you guys!"

She agrees with not doing it here. "We can find a place I am sure. Perhaps just outside of the city. There are a lot of more open but isolated places after all." As long as it's not the crazy food forest area. "We can figure it out..."

Rose's question though, makes Lailah pause. "Well, you wouldn't be absorbing it exactly. It's basically cleansing the hellion. You don't actually take the malevolence but I guess in a way you can feel it... or at least what caused it." Lailah shrugs. "It's hard to explain without you actually experiencing it, but I understand that you want to be prepared."

Lailah pauses for a moment. "So, if you're up for it, why don't we see if Sorey is free and then we can go practice? I just thought of a good place." She doesn't tell Rose that the place she's thinking of possibly has hellions leftover from the war but that could wait until Sorey was with them.

<Pose Tracker> Rose has posed.

"I see." Rose thinks to herself she might have completely misjudged what a toll the job of a Shepherd takes on Sorey. Or maybe it's his strength of character she misjudged, just slightly. Her opinion's certainly just gone up.

"Sure, let's ask him! We might be able to get the princess too, I'm sure she'd like to see all this. Wouldn't feel right for me to have these private training sessions with you while she falls behind, ahah~" Not that Alisha needs to be worried, as far as Rose felt, the princess was ahead in skill and tenacity.

Secretly she dreads discovering what using the Armatus is like, but she's very good at putting that smile on and nodding.
