  • Log: Live with your Decision
  • Cast: Riesenlied, Asteroid the Kid
  • Where: Wayside
  • Date: 10th December 2017
  • Summary: Wayside is afoot with activity since the proclamation. Asteroid steps in to speak to Riesenlied.

<Pose Tracker> Riesenlied has posed.

Riesenlied's proclamation has caused something of a stir in Wayside village, understandably. Amongst the Tainted that were borne through battle wounds, there's understandably more resentment, more confusion and anxiety, and she's had to steel herself to be ready for it.

"You've made us into traitors!" shouts one particularly high-spirited soldier, who's limping on a leg as he proceeds forward. "Adlehyde's just a setback for me, it's not--"

"Hey, hey, enough!" his companion tries to pull him back, steadying him just a little; it's a bit hard for him, because he's missing an arm and has a pair of scissors instead. "What do you think would've happened to us if we didn't follow Miss Riese? It'd be to the incinerator we go..."

"Y-you don't know that! Lord Siegfried allows for second chances!" shouts the soldier.

"... I regret not being able to tell you sooner," Riesenlied speaks patiently, bowing her head. "I am sorry. I do not--"

"Sorry doesn't cut it when it could be all our lives on the line!" the soldier screams in turn.

"... our situation has not changed. I will do all in my power to protect us here," Riesenlied speaks once more.

The soldier stews for a bit, before spitting on her -- and getting dragged back further. "I--I'm sorry, Miss Riese... I'll calm him down."

Riese pauses and endures through the humiliation for a moment, before quietly wiping the spit away from her gown. She sighs.

<Pose Tracker> Fei Fong Wong has posed.

Asteroid has heard rumors, of course, and the metal demon tainted soldiers being suddenly very pissed off about it has made her skittish. She knows there's a whole lot of orphans here and even if she could really take or leave most meteal demons, she's made friends with a lot of the kids in Wayside and, quite frankly, she likes Riesenlied and Noeline at least basically and doesn't want to see them get murdered or anything. For metal demons the scourge of filgaia that is destroying this world, they're decent, you know? And if what Riesenlied said in her proclamation is true, that the Guardians want them to prove themselves to be different than the other Metal Demons that have come before, isn't it sort of her duty to try and help out? Sure!

She's been frantically taking measurements of the town, considering building weight, size, and so forth and she's done it more than once. She's taken count of her own supplies, that which she can spare, as well as raw materials and has otherwise come off as particularly jittery in this turbulent time. She has largely kept out of trouble, though, indeed--despite her penchant for mischief making, she has been eerily cautious.

But even Asteroid the Kid has her limits.

She's passing by, frantically muttering mathematics as she does so, when she hears that high spirited soldier shouting at Riesenlied. She stares for a moment before approaching the soldier from behind before jamming a kick for his injured leg.

"What a load of bullshit," She says. "You come to our world thinking you're owed the planet, nearly destroy it--what--twice? Fail both times, then call the one among you trying something a little bit different a traitor for being a little bit cautious about her intentions? What a joke. You didn't mind living peacefully with all the humans here when you could pretend that you were still good little demons. What you're really mad at is Riesenlied having the balls to speak the truth of what you're already relying on."

<Pose Tracker> Riesenlied has posed.

There's a cry from the soldier, who winces and falters -- and his friend supports him with another wince, going, "Hey, hey! Enough of that--"

Riesenlied places a genteel hand on Asteroid's shoulder and shakes her head gently. "It's all right, Asteroid. Please."

The soldier casts a look at both of them -- it's a look Asteroid and Riese know well; the look of othering. Borne out of fear. Fear for oneself, fear for one's life. They shuffle off.

"... I knew that this would not win me favours," Riesenlied speaks very gently. "But this was necessary. If I'd kept mum about it longer, it would have turned truly toxic."

<Pose Tracker> Fei Fong Wong has posed.

Asteroid looks at the soldier. She's pretty afraid too, but she's angrier than she is afraid. "Why don't you help your people instead of nursing your pride!" She takes in several sharp breaths in rapid succession. Her heart is pounding. She still has one of those. Riesenlied places a gentle hand on Aurora's shoulder. Her shoulders shoot up like rockets in a sharp flinch, but she doesn't bite Riesenlied...this time.

She looks back and adds, "I can't believe you're just taking it." She shakes her head. "They need to be convinced, you gotta convince them or or or--"

She rubs at her rock-head with her thumbs before letting her hands drop.

"--Siegfried's gonna kill you all. The orphans are going to die. You have to get out of this place. Unless you've got some kind of landship, you got a landship? You could probably fit everything on a ship, they won't be able to catch you then. Even if it's not a submersable like the Sand Orca's got."

<Pose Tracker> Riesenlied has posed.

Riesenlied places her hand to her cheek, and closes her eyes for a longer moment. "Part of the process of convincing others is to let them speak their mind, and let them have time," she explains gently.

Even when there may not be time... but that is the hand that they're dealt with.

"... we have plans," Riesenlied admits. "Noeline and I have been charting this desert and searching for suitable means of transport. We haven't rested idle... and in a way-- I think most people here know that Wayside is more important because of what it represents, even if it may be transient, even if we may have to move on."

She looks towards Asteroid, gently, kindly. "There are still leads to follow up. I have faith we will be able to find something."

<Pose Tracker> Fei Fong Wong has posed.

"Tch." Asteroid says, noting her beliefs on that. Her tsundere is high today.

"Vehicles are my life blood. Give me something to do so I don't go crazy." She pauses. "Maybe I should've said oil? Grease? Whatever." She shakes her head. "I know the trading circuit in this area like the back of my hand, so I can afford to give you a deal too, if you need it though you might want to hold onto your water cause engines that run hot need to cool off somehow."

She grabs at both sides of her head. "Everything's going to die, everything's going to break. It's happening too /fast/."

<Pose Tracker> Riesenlied has posed.

Riesenlied has a sad smile, knowing she makes Asteroid worry. "We have a few Gears on hand from when we arrived here from the warfront. I do not mind selling them whole or in parts to pay for some of the costs."

She holds her hand out and beckons, back towards one of the caravans nearby the Orphanage. She keeps her tactical planning outside, so this is in effect her war room.

"There was actually one other aspect about Wayside that drew my eye," she says once she's inside. "You know the water purifier? It definitely is an ARM, from a bygone era... and it seems to stem from a larger system."

She furrows her brow. "That was part of our efforts to trace its source -- both here in the Wayspring, and from nearby ruins like Serpent's Coils. But it seems to go even deeper beyond where that horrible abberation appeared..."

She pauses and closes her eyes. "I digress. What I am saying is that we suspect that there is something larger buried underneath Wayside, have suspected for a while. And judging from the records that we have access to, it may be suitable to protect us here."

She lays a few sheets of paper down. Depictions of ancient battles between dragons in the skies, both in writing and illustrated -- inaccurately, perhaps, but...

<Pose Tracker> Fei Fong Wong has posed.

Asteroid the Kid mulls on this. She's not sure she could bear to see the remains of a Guardian statue, nevermind deal with whatever 'thing' happened to smash it. Still, she has to consider it, right? r-right? For the kids? FOR THE ACTUAL ORPHANS? CUTE LITTLE SOCCER PLAYING ORPHAN PEOPLE!

"And you just so happened to park on it...?" She sounds suspicious because, well, it is pretty suspicious. She doesn't know the tao of the suikoden where these things just happen. Something that goes beyond even beyond the deep... that sounds dangerous.

But she's a scientist first and foremost, she supposes, so rushing into dangerous shit is her thing. "What ... kind of records?" She asks and as Riesenlied shows ancient battles between dragons, she starts wondering.

"Uh--like some kind of dragon, then?" Wait aren't they dragons? "Some kind of GIGA dragon?"

<Pose Tracker> Riesenlied has posed.

"Well, we were not able to confirm anything, but this was the best spot of any of the ones we surveyed with the time we had, before everything went down in the Temple," Riesenlied admits fully the shortcomings of their investigation.

That they haven't been overrun by Wels is a pretty darn good effort, really.

"These are records of ancient battles between humans and Dragons," Riesenlied speaks. "You know of the Sand Ocean's history as a hotbed of battle between our ancestors? This particular site... there was some climactic battle that happened here, but the details are lost upon me. But chances are good there is a cache of some accord there."

She pauses.

"Dva... is down there. I won't leave her alone, no matter what," she murmurs. "No one gets left behind."

<Pose Tracker> Fei Fong Wong has posed.

"Yeah this place has been blown up more than most. That's why there's so many sweet ruins in the area. Imagine what it'd have been like if the destruction was even a little less all-encompassing." Asteroid shakes her head. "We might have access to a whole lot more than the occassional relic we accidentally attune with."

She frowns before adding, "Sounds like we should head in deep, but even if we find something the odds of it being repairable in time are..."

She thinks it over before adding, "I got a gear too. I've been gradually mining it for parts, but if you've got enough gear engines we can at least make /something/ that moves. Might break down eventually but we just gotta get to a spot the crazy people don't know about."

<Pose Tracker> Riesenlied has posed.

Riesenlied places her hands to her chest again as she nods, slowly. She closes her eyes in thought as Asteroid shares her comment, and says, "We do not need it fully functional per se. Worst case scenario, our Dragons are used to lifting personnel carriers -- even the hull of an airship would be feasible for the five of them to carry for a short amount of time."

She quietly smiles and nods at Asteroid's suggestion. "Yes, I'd been thinking of it... I'd be applying a lot of pressure on our scientists, but Cetiri -- mother... seems up to the challenge."

<Pose Tracker> Fei Fong Wong has posed.

Asteroid is calming down somewhat. It sounds like Riesenlied has a lot of people on it. She kind of envies at how easy she makes it all seem.

"Right." She says. "Well, it sounds like you've thought it out. I guess I'll look around too when I have time," Where'd your WE'VE GOT TO GO NOW NOW NOW attitude go?? Well, she seems to grok that Riesenlied has her own science team and lord knows what kind of tricks Metal Demons have up their sleeves.

"...But it sucks to see you martyring yourself. I guess you'll do what you gotta though."

She takes a step back and adds, "...They're counting on you."

And then she starts heading back off.
