DG: A party led by Matilda Whitehead is now entering Meribia Sewers.
DG: Party formation is now over. An Entry Challenge will now be drawn and displayed to the party.

|Type: Entry |Dungeon Ability: Wits |Challenge Rating: 1 |
---------------------------< Challenge Information: >---------------------------
Meribia is an old city, and its sewer system rests atop multiple layers of
urban construction. Finding grates and storm drains is easy, but finding a
point of entry large enough to accomodate your group is more challenging.
Finding a /safe/ access point is even more challenging. Whether you talk
with townsfolk, consult old maps, or study the lay of the land, you're going
to have to locate an entrance that's still accessible before you go any
 further.
=Dungeon Conditions: Reckless, Tire===========================================
<Pose Tracker> Matilda Whitehead has posed.

It's perfectly reasonable to go on a worldwide adventure when still slightly recovering from a concussion, right?

More seriously: Matilda has head rumors about the criminal element of Meribia's sewer system, and figures it's as good a reason as any to poke her head into the city and, by extension, the sewer system. She's even picked up a few friends along the way -- some on the boat ride there, some within the town itself.

She has also acquired a helpful map of the city from a similarly helpful vendor, which she presently attempts to align with the city itself. The only one with marked sewer access points was a little on the old side, and isn't actually aligned with the grid of the city...

"Hmmm... I think this one has been built over," Matilda says, tilting the map slightly, thinking aloud.

DG: Matilda Whitehead has used her Tool Portable Library toward her party's challenge, Find an Entrance.
<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

Layna's one of the ones Matilda ran into in the city. She'd been wandering it for her own reasons with a couple of friends in tow, and while a trip into the sewers hadn't exactly been on the menu today, it sounded good for a laugh.

Besides, the last time she delved into a city's seedy underbelly she'd come away from it with a stock of alcohol. Incredibly suspect sewer moonshine, but alcohol nonetheless.

"I know of a few ways in, aye." Layna says, as they gather information. "Can't guarantee they haven't been found out since I've been gone, but if you look for the signs, they should point you in the right direction. ...Assuming they haven't changed 'em..."

She'd been gone for so long, it was hard to tell what was the same or not. It helps that Layna is familiar with the criminal elements Matilda is investigating, being technically a criminal element herself - she knew the otherwise-innocuous symbols they used to communicate with those in the know.

...Or at least she did, many months ago before she ended up on Filgaia.

DG: Layna Manydays has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Find an Entrance.

<Pose Tracker> Lydia Seren has posed.
<poem>Lydia Seren has brought the cat. It is poking around various grates and storm drains, looking for a way inside. Perhaps thanks to its kitty power it'll be able to help out? Or not. It's hard to anticipate cat power.

Lydia figures merc work is a fine supplement to her income from her mercantile nature. She needs money. She needs more money. The more silver she has the better. She needs the silver in order to purchase materials. She needs materials in order to make a spaceship happen. That's the plan! She has withheld from using gella because she anticipates a need for both currencies in the future.

"Well," Lydia says. "We probably won't get away with blasting a new entrance so..."

DG: Lydia Seren has used her Tool Schrodinger the Cat toward her party's challenge, Find an Entrance.
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lanval has posed.

There are a myriad interesting ways for a bunch of people to get caught up together looking into a way to get into the sewers of Meribia. One of them may or may not involve a drunken heavy-set silver-haired water spirit having decided to pass out and snooze atop one of the barely-obscured vertical tunnels made for nefarious purposes as they lie face-down and mutter in their stupor.

DG: Seraph Lanval has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward his party's challenge, Find an Entrance.
<Pose Tracker> Avril Vent Fleur has posed.

There had been a bit of... an event, shall we say, after arriving in Meribia for Avril, her friends, and the group they had gotten themselves mixed up with. One madcap flight from the guards, a good deal of rest, and a deliberate decision to part ways and explore the world they had found themselves in later...

...Is today, the day that Avril arrives searching for the entrance to a sewer with Matilda.

"There must be a reason we had arrived here in Meribia. Perhaps the answer may lie here in the depths of this sewer?" Avril suggests, treading lightly as she advances after Matilda, peering at walls and alleyways. "I do not think it was merely chance, after all. A greater force may be at work."

She's silent for a moment, recalling that time at the Baskar Colony, and Matilda's words to Elder Halle. Blue eyes avert. "..."

The Metal Demons. The Veruni, who have aligned themselves with them. There are ways to break even a sealed statue. Could what has been done be undone?

"...And perhaps there may be some method to return to Filgaia."

She's silent a moment, as if considering what Layna says carefully. "Hmm. So it may be possible that we could be mislead by the signs as well... We shall need to keep our wits about us."

DG: Avril Vent Fleur has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Find an Entrance.
<Pose Tracker> Sephilia Lampbright has posed.

Sephilia has come along on this adventure because reasons!

She, too, has maps. Not her dad's, mind you.

"This way, I think!"

DG: Sephilia Lampbright has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Find an Entrance.

DG: The party led by Matilda Whitehead has passed this challenge! The party gained 20 exploration! If anyone needs to use party
management commands, do so now. Otherwise, the next round's GM may begin the next round with +dungeon/draw.
<Pose Tracker> Matilda Whitehead has posed.

Matilda glances at the water spirit, mumbling and snoozing, with a raised eyebrow. "Is that -- normal, around here?" she asks of the Lunarians, head canted slightly to one side for a fewmoments before she returns her attention to the map itself.

"I doubt the method to return would be found this close," Matilda replies to Avril, thinking for a few moments, before ultimately letting Layna take the lead on finding an entrance.

It's Layna who indeed finds one -- it's a large sewer grate, currently not secured. Previous break-in? Maintenance work? ... Maybe it's best if no one knows.

DG: Avril Vent Fleur has drawn a new Challenge.

---------------------------< Challenge Information: >---------------------------
Someone, it seems, has been dumping their garbage down an open sewer
entrance, regardless of whether or not it was intended for that. Whomever it
was has unintentionally created a giant wall of garbage that's currently
blocking your path. It consists mostly of moldering crates and rotting
packing straw, but there's a little of everything in here.

Including a half-rotten bill of sale to someone named Ramus. Huh.
=Dungeon Conditions: Exhaust==================================================
<Pose Tracker> Avril Vent Fleur has posed.

"Are they alright?" Avril asks, on the subject of the slumbering person. To her eyes -- spiritually sensitive to a fault, unfortunately -- he's just another person.

Shortly after which she considers Matilda's explanation with due seriousness, as usual. "Hmm. No, it would be strange if it were that easy," she answers, crinkling her forehead and frowning. "Nevertheless, I do wonder if there is something about this location that drew us to it..."

It's a little while after that an opportune opening to the sewers below presents itself. They venture downwards.

It's a little dark down here, below the surface. Avril squints in the gloom, treading with care as they make their way forward.

"There's something... in the way ahead," she says, coming to a stop, as if expecting some fell--

Well, it's certainly foul. The good news is that it's mostly debris rather than anything truly horrible -- its source apparent from the thin stream of light shining through a mostly-covered grate above -- but it's still an absolute mountain of garbage, and it's in their way.

"I suppose... we have no choice," she voices, taking a step forward to try her hand at shuffing one of the crates out of the way. It budges slightly, revealing a scrap of paper, which Avril picks up.

"...It's a bill of sale," she announces, offering the half-rotten scrap to whoever wants it. "For someone named 'Ramus'."

DG: Avril Vent Fleur has contributed a Brute Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Someone Should Be Fined For This.
<Pose Tracker> Sephilia Lampbright has posed.

Sephy wrinkles her nose. "Eugh. What a stink. Chauncey an' I can do bunches of the heavy lifting!"

The doll's digging claws are attached, and he is embiggened, a giant plush fox moving trash.

DG: Sephilia Lampbright has used her Tool Digging Claws toward her party's challenge, Someone Should Be Fined For This.
<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

Lanval...is snoozing. Layna chuckles to herself, then glances toward Matilda.

"Aye, him at least. She says, then glances toward the slumbering Lanval.

"Avast, Lanval! There's work to be done! Come on and give us a hand, aye?" She calls out to him, and then ducks into the opening.

They don't get far before they find something in their way, though, and Layna frowns, folding her arms in front of her.

"Ramus, aye? Well, it looks like he's not getting his order any time soon...I say he probably won't mind if we smash it up, aye?" She says with a grin, and then recites a quick incantation. She punches forward, sending a wind-powered shockwave out to simply smash some of the boxes. "And keep an eye out for anything valuable!"

Not that there was much chance of that.

DG: Layna Manydays has contributed a Brute Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Someone Should Be Fined For This.
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lanval has posed.

The slumbering drunk doesn't follow down the way Layna finds. Nope. Just one turn of the body or another, the circumstances that be see him align juuuuuuust right (mostly having his name called), that he just up and unceremoniously tumbles down his own way through and finds himself dumped down into the very darkness by the rest of the group.
He snores loudly, stirs, and partially opens those heavy eyes to the gleam of aquamarine. He yawns, stretches, rises....
"...Awww... Sephy! Laynaaaaa~" The names are spoken and dragged on like one might hear from, say, someone's doting grandmother. "What're ya doin' down heeeeeeere?" The vagrant of a watery spirit ambles forward as Sephilia lets Chauncey start moving all this old, stacked garbage out of the way. "Did ya bring shome more of your friiiiiendsh? Ha ha! Shounds like... like a good time ta driiiink~"
Lanval doesn't have much luck moving crates, or even really opening them. Instead of helping move them, he instead seems to be more of the mind to dig a hand in there and rummage around for something to drink in there.
"Dunno... d-dunno why ya would wanna bring 'em all out down here," he devolves to mumbling.

DG: Seraph Lanval has contributed a Brute Basic Action toward his party's challenge, Someone Should Be Fined For This.
<Pose Tracker> Lydia Seren has posed.

Lydia Seren isn't about to disrupt a snoozing Sera--

"HEY WAKE UP Y'DORK!" Oh okay, Lydia is totally okay with disrupting a snoozing Seraph. But then she looks to Avril. "Pretty sure they're just drunk, so like, they ain't sick or anything. Man. Maann."

She blinks a few times at the 'bill of sale'. She is quite willing to take the bill of sale from Avril as she stares at it. "Ramus huh." She thinks it over. "Hmm." Maybe there's something to this guy if he can afford to buy and then dump all these goods. Or he bought these goods and they were never delivered. "I guess I'll have to pay this Ramus a visit... Maybe open up some business with the gentleman. But I guess I need to make sure he's actually capable first."

She pats Avril on the shoulder, grinning widely with many teeth. "Thanks!"

She then trails off as Lanval continues to be drunk.

"Dah?"

DG: Lydia Seren has contributed a Brute Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Someone Should Be Fined For This.
<Pose Tracker> Matilda Whitehead has posed.

Matilda looks at the pile of garbage in the sewer, pursing her lips a little and canting her head just slightly to one side as she looks at the massive pile of refuse before them. "It's possible these are just the boxes, for the most part," Matilda says, at the mention of the possibility that this was the order in its entirety. "There's a lot of packing straw here -- frankly, if I were a large enough shop in this city and could get away with it, I'd dispose of this sort of thing down here, too..."

Reaching into her pack, she pulls forth a bottle of something and hurls it across the entirety of the boxes -- before turning toward Lanval, now that he's feeling so talkative.

"I don't believe we've met," she says, with a carefully neutral tone. She really feels like she ought not to immediately chastise their new friend for being a wastrel, after all. She can be polite.

DG: Matilda Whitehead has used her Tool Bubble Lotion toward her party's challenge, Someone Should Be Fined For This.

DG: The party led by Matilda Whitehead has passed this challenge! The party gained 20 exploration! If anyone needs to use party
management commands, do so now. Otherwise, the next round's GM may begin the next round with +dungeon/draw.
<Pose Tracker> Avril Vent Fleur has posed.

Avril does not entirely notice that the poor drunk person has taken a bit of a tumble down in the sewer immediately -- not until the final crash, as she shuffles a crate helpfully out of the way. "Oh? --Oh, no--"

But Lanval rises as if he'd merely stumbled off the curb, rather than taken a bit of a dive. Though clearly startled by this, Avril's expression of somewhat worried calm carries its own. "...Are you alright?" Lydia pats her on the shoulder, prompting a brief glance her way before her attention returns to the dipsomaniac Seraph.
He does seem to be a little off, to her reading of the situation. "Hmm. So they are intoxicated."
Avril: doesn't know what marriage is, does know what 'being drunk' is. Then again, after Ignas, it'd be a shocker if she didn't know the second by now.

    But on the other hand:

"Is this not typical?" she asks Matilda, stepping out of the way as the woman hurls a bottle of something (which has a slightly corrosive effect on the crate pile). She gives the pile another glance. "Hm..."

Chauncy -- another thing that Avril has to make way for -- claws aglint, chunks handily at the mountain of discarded crates and other assorted debris; splinters fly freely.

The coup de grace is the shocking roll of wind that shreds and scatters the remaining bits of the garbage heap.

"It seems to be clear now," Avril comments. "Shall we press on?"

DG: Seraph Lanval has drawn a new Challenge.

====================================<* CHALLENGE - Fatberg Off The Starboard Bow *>=====================================
|Type: Exploration |Dungeon Ability: Brute |Challenge Rating: 2 |
-----------------------------------------------< Challenge Information: >-----------------------------------------------
At first glance, the thing blocking the tunnel ahead looks like an ordinary
cave-in--bothersome, but not bad enough to block the flow of sewage
entirely. A closer inspection reveals the awful truth--it's not a mass of
rock and dirt, but a giant blob of grease, hardened to a rock-like
consistency. It extends down more than half the tunnel, and you'll need to
clear it out before you can proceed.

At least you're doing Meribia a public service?
=Dungeon Conditions: Weaken===================================================
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lanval has posed.

Some things happen when a number of folks address the drunkard in the drains, the distant cousin of the room-dwelling elephant. Lydia yells at him and recoils. Matilda introduces herself. Avril is very much referring to him like she understands he's there.
His eyes open again, those lips of his going to a more neutral line...
...And then they smile. The lips, that is. Those eyes are probably smiling under those eyelids too, though, like all of a sudden the fact they're down in the middle of a disgusting sewer is the furthest thing from his mind.
"Oooooh, hello! Hello, hello, he," hiccup, "hellooooo!" The drunkard laughs as he comes along the rest of them in the wake of the destruction of crates and packing materials. He is not as guarded as someone who might be stumbling into the lair of the criminal underbelly of Meribia ought to be. "I'm Lanval! Jusht a humble shervant of the Goddessh," who is also drunk as all hell in a world where she says drinking is bad, "nice to meet ya!"
While these (un?)pleasantries are going on, the lot of them are about to find themselves with their progress stopped up by a giant lump of... rock? No, the moment anyone dares run a hand against it, with some doing they'll find that this was once - and is - a giant build-up of hardened grease of some kind. The origins, unknown. What it was like before it came to accumulate and thrive in the sewers, unimportant. It is in the way, it is built-up as such that one can't just try to crawl up or around it, and it is rock hard.
The Water Seraph seems to be ignorant of how gross this is and rests himself up against it, babbling on and on about how it's great there's so many people to just talk to and share a drink with, which is nice and all BUT IT'S NOT HELPING ANYTHING.

DG: Seraph Lanval has contributed a Brute Basic Action toward his party's challenge, Fatberg Off The Starboard Bow.
<Pose Tracker> Sephilia Lampbright has posed.

Sephy's just glad she doesn't have to touch this herself. "This is really, really disgusting and I'm going to have to shampoo Chauncey after this one," she notes, nose wrinkled in clear revulsion.

Chauncey's digging claws are built for this kind of thing. Not this, specifically. No one should have to do this. But this kind of thing.

DG: Sephilia Lampbright has used her Tool Digging Claws toward her party's challenge, Fatberg Off The Starboard Bow.
<Pose Tracker> Lydia Seren has posed.

Lydia sees it.

She blinks at it.

She picks up Schrodinger carefully and gets out of the way. "Nope." She says. "Nope nope nope." She ducks behind Layna. "Nope nope nope nope." She positions herself carefully. "Nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope."

She grimaces as Chauncey gets to work. "Nope nope nope nope--"

Yeah this goes on a while.

DG: Lydia Seren has contributed a Brute Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Fatberg Off The Starboard Bow.
<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

They smash through the rotted crates and proceed forward. Layna's not really as concerned about Lanval's behavior as some of the others might be - she knows that the people gathered here are probably some of the few people in the entire city who could even see him, with certain notable exceptions.

He could make as much of a fuss as he wanted, in her opinion!

And then they get to...that. Layna stares at it for a moment, consideringly. And then she makes a decision.

"...You know what, I'm gonna vote we find another way around. Whaddaya say, me hearties?" Layna asks, looking around at the others.

Even Layna had limits on what she could tolerate, and this was definitely encroaching on multiple of them.

DG: Layna Manydays has contributed a Brute Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Fatberg Off The Starboard Bow.
<Pose Tracker> Matilda Whitehead has posed.

"I truthfully don't go poking around in sewer systems that often -- but no, I don't believe it's entirely typical for people to dump their refuse in this way..." Matilda answers Avril, with an awkward smile. Then she turns to Lanval again. ... well, they have to get alcohol out of circulation somehow -- why not offer it to the Seraphim? "Ah -- Matilda. Charmed." She's finally managed to reach that critical stage of being on Lunar where she identifies herself as simply 'Matilda' to those she's just met. ... thank heavens for small victories?

Matilda squints at the mass of fat and debris for a few moments. "... hmmm... if one were to heat this up, and have a means of separating the components..." She pulls out another bottle. This one is broadly similar, though it has a slightly different consistency -- and seems to eat through the debris caught in the fatberg with much greater gusto than it eats through the fat itself, like some sort of anti-drain cleaner.

"No," she adds to Layna, "I think we should go forward."

DG: Matilda Whitehead has used her Tool Bubble Lotion toward her party's challenge, Fatberg Off The Starboard Bow.
<Pose Tracker> Avril Vent Fleur has posed.

"It is not, then. Hmmm." Avril considers Matilda for a moment. "Yes. If everyone were to deposit their garbage down here, then the sewer would soon become full of garbage, thereby prohibiting further deposits." She considers this for a moment more, then adds, "It may also be a health hazard."

This is all before their new companion introduces himself. "It is good to meet you, as well. I am Avril, Avril Vent Fleur. Are you... well? That was a long fall you withstood."

After pleasantries are out of the way -- such that they are -- passage beyond the garbage pile turns out to not allow them to get far at all. There's another blockage here.

Avril stares at the 'rock' in their path. Something about its shape... its size... its color...

    its... sheen.

It all stirs up a vague recollection. A hand lifts to cover her mouth. Her eyes widen. Oh no.
Oh, no. She remembers what that is.

Her hand slides beneath her wrap. She extracts--

A small little device, small enough to fit in the palm of one's hand. Still staring at the... concretion before them, she jabs it forward in the air, flipping it open with her thumb and pressing the button hidden within.

There is a low rumble. An earthquake?

    No.

    There, though the wall--!!

It's the (golem) foot of justice.

DG: Avril Vent Fleur has used her Tool Remote Golem Override toward her party's challenge, Fatberg Off The Starboard Bow.

<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lanval has posed.

Lanval cheerfully chews the fat - not literally - while the team seems divided upon whether it's even a good idea in which to engage this rocky mass of disgustingness. Matilda approaches it with chemistry, to soften it up and allow Lord Chauncey to really sink their claws into the mess, try to separate and pull it apart...
...more like it attempts to pull Chauncey in. Oh no! Who can save them now?! A low rumbling happens, followed by an explosive interruption by a golem's foot that strikes into the heart of the fat.
The results of the golem booting the fatberg is so explosive that the whole thing just explodes and gushes outward, threatening to wash them all away to parts unknown while also ensuring that they will probably need to bathe in fire or maybe even lava, minimum, to ever be clean again - unless they run away fast enough.
Lanval laughs all the while through this terrifying trip of something he will need to be carefully coached as to have never happened, ever.

DG: Layna Manydays has drawn a new Challenge.

Meribia is a large city, and strange things often end up in its sewers. An
alchemist's shop has been regularly dumping waste products into a nearby
drain, and they've coagulated into a large, hostile ball of goo that
shimmers like an oil slick. Touching it has roughly equal odds of poisoning
you, setting you on fire, paralyzing major muscle groups, and putting you to
 sleep.

On the plus side, if you manage to kill it, you might be able to extract
some alchemical components from its remains! If you know what you're doing,
 that is.
=Dungeon Conditions: Wound, Treasure==========================================
<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

Mentally, Layna decides that they probably should've gone with her idea of just finding another way through. This is despite the fact that, if she had helped it probably wouldn't have come to this...but hey!

At least it's out of the way, right? Right.

Now let's never speak of this again.

Eventually, somewhere probably a fair ways away from That Which Shall Not Be Spoken Of, the party comes across another mysterious mass. There's a sheen to it not unlike an oil slick, though some present here may not be familiar with that.

As soon as it senses their presence, it begins to move toward them threateningly...and instinctively, Layna recites an incantation and fires off a blade of wind at it.

"You can see why people want to set up down here - no one in their right mind's going to want to come to a place like this." Layna says.

Someone who's a bit more familiar with mixtures might be able to glean some information from this creature - it's the result of alchemical waste products that have combined to the point of congealing into something with a primitive, instinct-based mind of its own.

Dangerous, but maybe someone might be able to harvest something from it? Someone who isn't Layna, because she's just going to try to slice it up.

DG: Layna Manydays has contributed a Combat Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Illegal Disposal Slime.
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lanval has posed.

Sadly, the... Unmentionable didn't claim Lanval and free them from more friendly, empty chatter. He's offered precious little to their cause other than just being company, when they are beset upon by an animated glob of discarded chemistry mixed just right to have something of an instinct of its own.
"Hmm... hmmm." He hmmms, stroking a hand against that huge beard of his. "Ahh, shomethin' like that bothering you, Layla? Ha ha ha. It'sh okaaaay..."
Lanval rummages through his person and withdraws a shining white glass bottle. It's something Matilda's probably seen browsing alchemical supply merchants, maybe even something she's witnessed other Lunarians use before. He pops off the top and downs about half of it before he recoils and remembers that this thing has an equally important destiny other than being another liquid sacrifice to his insatible thirst.
Pouring some vague remainder of it into the gourd, he hoists said gourd over his head via rope and starts spinning it with gleeful laughter as he sprays sanctified liquid everywhere. As it makes contact with the sewer water underneath his bare feet, the wastewater shimmers and clears where he goes... but wait!
That might neutralize and ruin some of the more precious components within the thing! This might be helping too much!!

DG: Seraph Lanval has used his Tool Holy Bottle toward his party's challenge, Illegal Disposal Slime.
<Pose Tracker> Sephilia Lampbright has posed.

Sephilia Lampbright is...pretty much done with this now. "This place is gross. Even for a sewer! I hate this!"

Chauncey punctuates her petulant words with smashes of his huge, still-beclawed arms.

DG: Sephilia Lampbright has contributed a Combat Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Illegal Disposal Slime.
<Pose Tracker> Matilda Whitehead has posed.

"Well -- certainly not," Matilda concedes to Layna, with a small smile. "I suppose that's why we're here, though... 'Drifter' and 'right mind' has never really been..." She gestures vaguely with a gauntleted hand before turning her attention more directly toward the ooze itself.

She smiles. "Oh -- now that is interesting... I can see multiple atropa strains in there -- oh, this is perfect! Try not to burn this!" Matilda insists, before moving in toward the poisonous creatu --

Lanval threatens to ruin her take, and immediately she draws her blade and leaps forward toward the ooze, striking out at it with the flat. She seems to intend to slam the whole thing into the wall, away from the purging liquid. She follows up with an attempt to outright squish the sentience out of it with her shield.

DG: Matilda Whitehead has contributed a Combat Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Illegal Disposal Slime.
<Pose Tracker> Avril Vent Fleur has posed.

    Avril's hand slowly lowers.
With considerable (but with great poise regardless of the speed of the movement) haste, she tucks the device back away, her expression deadpan.

"My apologies," she says, in the wake of the horror that just befell the lot of them. "I was, ah, not entirely expecting that to happen."

But perhaps the ends justify the means, as the way is now clear.

    ...ish. It's clearish.

"Be careful," Avril speaks, before drawing another mysterious object from beneath her wrap.

She breaks into an all-out dash.

Mysterious it so remains, up until the moment she closes on the gelatinous creature oozing towards them: Absolute Zero's beam whip erupts at her side in a blaze of light.
Before, water from the Seraph's sacred gourd sloshing about behind her in a shimmering wave, she drives a series of overhead light-borne lashes at the slime, one after the other.

DG: Avril Vent Fleur has used her Tool Beam Whip Mode toward her party's challenge, Illegal Disposal Slime.
<Pose Tracker> Lydia Seren has posed.

"Guhhh..." Lydia says as she sees what's coming upon them. "This is almost as gross as the other thing..." She shakes her head. "But..." She blinks a few times before turning to Matilda. "HEY TILDE! THIS REMINDS ME! I'M RUNNING LOW ON MY DRUGS! ARE YOU STILL SELLIN'?"

She asides to Layna, then. "I'm low on my drugs."

She then looks back t othe alchemical glob thing. "I...am going to try hitting it with lasers."

And she does, in fact, launch bright lasers from Solais Emsu at the thing. Hopefully it won't cause a terrible chain reaction.

DG: Lydia Seren has contributed a Combat Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Illegal Disposal Slime.

<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

It turns out, a thing like this is basically a ticking time bomb waiting to go off. These alchemical waste products were discarded for a reason. It's not quite sure what sets it off, or perhaps it's just everything working in tandem that does it.

It pulses once, then a second time. It grows in size. The area around it begins to heat up.

"...Move. Now." Layna says, and turns around and begins to run.

It's not going to be long before the slime explodes, and it'll probably take a good chunk of that pathway with it. They'll need to find another way around...

<Pose Tracker> Lydia Seren has posed.

There's a dotted outline where Lydia's body was when Layna turned around to look. Never underestimate Lydia's willingness to flee a bad situation.

Of course, that proves to be a problem because as she's running from the explosion, she ends up stepping on a tile.

The tile goes *click*.

Then the passage underneath her slips open into a wide spike pit that she WOULD have tumbled into if the metal tendrils extending from her back hadn't lashed out and stabbed themselves into the side of the wall, leaving her importantly unimpaled.

"Dah." Lydia says as her tendrils flick her back over to solid ground, roughly.

"Well." Lydia says. "There's bound to be more than one so...let's skip like half of 'em."

She fires a pair of portals out that one can choose to go through to avoid some of this problem.

DG: Lydia Seren has used her Tool Portal Pistols toward her party's challenge, Punji Sticks.
<Pose Tracker> Matilda Whitehead has posed.

Matilda looks back at the creature with an impossibly forlorn expression. Someday...!

Matilda hops back as Lydia starts to fall; as Lydia pulls herself out of the pit, Matilda purses her lips into a thin line while the shaman creates a pair of portals. She considers them briefly -- is she really that much of a fan of the whole 'go through folded space' thing?

... well, it's better than the alternative, she reflects, as she steps through the portals and then starts to move forward slowly and carefully, tapping the stone in front of her with her sword before advancing.

... she does her best not to hold the prior explosion against Lanval.

DG: Matilda Whitehead has contributed a Agility Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Punji Sticks.
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lanval has posed.

Lanval's laughter is not that of a person who has narrowly avoided brushes with mortality a few times over today. It's the laugh of someone who seems to be having a whole lot of fun even when the rest of the group is most certainly not.
"Mmmm...?" He tilts his head as Lydia halts her fall in some strange way he can't quite make out from where he's standing. (Maybe it'd help if he opened his eyes.) "That'sh 'bout right, li'l miss Nope." He sits down, cross-legged, as he gets out a fancy-looking smoking pipe that he is nowhere near as cool enough as Margaret to have the right to have. While Lydia helps pave the way forward through bending physics through warping portal technology, Lanval takes a drag off the pipe.
     It doesn't seem lit?
But then it starts sprouting bubbles. Big, floaty bubbles that might envelop one or two of them without prompting as they float about the dangerous trap-filled corridor as he helps himself inside of one.
...Whether the bubbles will actually carry them completely to the other end proves a suspect prospect, but the alternatives being what they are...

DG: Seraph Lanval has used his Tool Bubble Pipe toward his party's challenge, Punji Sticks.
<Pose Tracker> Sephilia Lampbright has posed.

Sephilia is absolutely grateful for Lydia's portals and Lanval's bubbles! Which she uses, in that order!

DG: Sephilia Lampbright has contributed a Agility Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Punji Sticks.
<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

When there's trouble on the floor, one thing is certain - Layna's probably going to try to jump over it. After all, she doesn't have to worry about falling into one of the tiles if she doesn't touch any of them. And that she does, with a big wind-based boost over everything.

She also makes sure to produce a few bottles of something that's probably alcohol once everyone's in a safe position, because by this point they all definitely need it.

DG: Layna Manydays has used her Tool Quartermaster's Stash toward her party's challenge, Punji Sticks.
<Pose Tracker> Avril Vent Fleur has posed.

The slime pulses once. Absolute Zero's light dies down in a heartbeat.

Move. Now." speaks Layna. And this is the point where Avril whirls about and (with poise) books it.

'Click' goes the path ahead, helpfully.

    "--Lydia--?"

...Lydia's fine, as it happens, though the happening of how she becomes fine provokes a blink from Avril. Nevertheless, her recovery from the surprise of how Lydia's body can work is swift; she approaches the edge of the pit and gazes down into the depths.

"Hmm." Her gaze tilts over at the portals for a moment, then shifts to the far edge of the pit.

Absolute Zero trades places for another strange object from beneath Avril's wrap, an octagonal disc of some unknown metal.
In her hands, it begins to shine brightly.

"Lucadia," Avril intones, closing her eyes.

She takes a step closer to the edge.
And leaps, as if so buoyed by the Guardian's power. Which, helpfully, sheds its blessings outwards.

DG: Avril Vent Fleur has used her Tool Sea Medium toward her party's challenge, Punji Sticks.

Well that isn't so bad. Everybody has an easy time getting through and Matilda doesn't even lose SANITY while going through the portals. It wasn't that bad was it? Seeing what lurks hiding under your eyelids? No, it was probably fine. It was fine. Everything's fine.

"Did you just call me Miss Nope?" Lydia asks. She pauses. And then she says, "I like it."

She takes a bottle of Layna's stash when it's offered and starts guzzling it right from the bottle. This is what she does when she leaps into the portal.

When she hops back out she now has two bottles of alcohol somehow. Lydia squints at it, shrugs, and hands the second opened bottle back to Layna. How the heck did that happen?

============================================<* CHALLENGE - Platform Panic *>============================================
|Type: Final |Dungeon Ability: Agility |Challenge Rating: 3 |
-----------------------------------------------< Challenge Information: >-----------------------------------------------
After much searching, you seem to have stumbled across some sort of overflow
tank--a circular chamber ringed with wastewater outlets, a high ceiling, and
a twenty-foot drop into filthy water. There's a circular platform in the
center, and a narrow catwalk leads to what might be an exit on the other
 side.

Unfortunately, once your party moves onto the platform, there's an ominous
'click', and one by one, the supports holding the platform start descending
into the darkness. The only one left is in the very center--and the platform
starts to tilt and wobble, ominously. You're going to have to spread out and
balance the load to keep it from collapsing until the supports rise again.
 Easier said than done.
=Dungeon Conditions: Slow=====================================================
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lanval has posed.

The lot of them find a rhythm throughout the rest of the tunnels of Meribia's sewers, now that they are more keenly aware about the possibility of booby-trapped floors. Before long, the whole lot of them come into a great large circular chamber with wastewater outlets all around, a tall ceiling, and... a very long drop into perfect bathing water (no, it is not perfect, it is also not for bathing, and it may not even be water in there any more).
A narrow walkway ushers them all forward towards what might yet lie on the other end.... but then there's a 'click' noise.
Whatever's holding the platform up - multiple whatevers - become a smaller number of whatevers very quickly, and the platform's balance becomes questionable! Any moment now, it could tip over and fall into the drink! It could be the very end!!
...Lanval just chills out in the very middle, sitting down and taking a long drag off the bubble pipe and producing a whole bunch of floating bubbles that do not help their present situation at all except to be something of a safety net.
"Hmm, hmm, hmm." Lanval peacefully sighs as he seems entirely unconcerned with the present situation. "I'd shay this little trip's been shwell. What shay you all we jusht enjoy the shights? Ha ha ha!"
     ...

DG: Seraph Lanval has used his Tool Bubble Pipe toward his party's challenge, Platform Panic.
<Pose Tracker> Sephilia Lampbright has posed.

Sephy staggers around a bit. "This--this doesn't need to be that difficult, we just need...to balance everyone...and then...uh...uh...crud."

She tries to suit deed to word. She doesn't look like she's having a lot of success with it.

Sephy, this isn't a wits puzzle. You can't think through it. You must simply do.

Or do not.

Well, or try and fail. Yoda said a lot of nonsensical things if you think about it.

DG: Sephilia Lampbright has contributed a Agility Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Platform Panic.
<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

...There's another click. Layna's not sure who's responsible, but at this point it doesn't really matter. The supports fall out from underneath the platform, and soon it's wobbling ominously.

"...Y'know, it's times like this that I find myself thinkin'. How did we end up in a situation like this? Why in the world is somethin' like this in a sewer? And how much am I gonna hafta drink before this all starts makin' some sense?" Layna asks, taking another long swig of her bottle.

Fortunately, she's sober enough to try to move in a way that causes as little movement on the platform as possible.

"Anyone got any bright ideas to get out of this?" She asks.

DG: Layna Manydays has used her Tool Quartermaster's Stash toward her party's challenge, Platform Panic.
<Pose Tracker> Lydia Seren has posed.

Lydia Seren naturally tries to solve this problem with portals She does this by firing a portal into the circular platform and then one towards the catwalk. It's more of a 'just in case' measure than anything that's going to help balancing and in fact it may make it a little more difficult, but what are you expecting? Her to NOT fire the portal pistols?

That's ridiculous. Of course she has to shoot out portals. It's her thing.

"I do." She tells Layna.

She drinks some more from the bottle.

DG: Lydia Seren has used her Tool Portal Pistols toward her party's challenge, Platform Panic.
<Pose Tracker> Avril Vent Fleur has posed.

    "Up top!" Lydia says.

Avril glances up at the hand for several long seconds. She blinks, then reaches up to tap Lydia's outstretched palm, as if she's attempting to puzzle out what she should be doing here.

    ...Good enough?

For a time, there's silence and peace.
    For a time.

    There's another click.

Medium still in hand, Avril wastes no time. Pressing the device against her chest as the platform begins to tilt, she merely invokes the name of the Guardian rather than scream or call out.

    "Lucadia, please."

    There is a brilliant light.

Buoyed again by the power of the Guardian, it perhaps may make the balancing job that much easier, with that much less weight now on this section of the platform.

    "We must balance ourselves out--"

DG: Avril Vent Fleur has used her Tool Sea Medium toward her party's challenge, Platform Panic.
<Pose Tracker> Matilda Whitehead has posed.

Matilda shivers a little as she steps out of the portal. ... Don't like that. If nothing else, it's disorienting. She momentarily squints at Lydia as she duplicates something with the portal, trying to figure out... how.

... sometimes it's best not to ask.

As their footing starts to shift underneath them, Matilda holds perfectly still for just a moment. "... All right -- Miss Layna and I should each head to an opposite corners," Matilda says, as she slowly heads toward one herself. "And -- yes, getting someone off of this isn't a bad idea, either," she adds, as Lydia fires her portal pistols.

Avril seems to have the same idea, which makes her even more certain she's doing it correctly.

DG: Matilda Whitehead has contributed a Agility Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Platform Panic.

You've stumbled across an ordinary-looking footlocker, resting in a pile of
stones of similar size and shape. Inside is a sizeable haul of coins,
jewelry, and other small valuables. The locker is small enough to carry with
you, so if you want it, it's all yours. If it is stolen property, though,
the owners might want it back!

<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lanval has posed.

Limiting the amount of weight actually on the platform proves to be a winning decision, what with Lydia deciding to minimize the amount of time she's even on there with the help of portals. A bit of supernatural help from a Guardian by Avril helps keep things steady. Matilda directs everyone to try and keep things balanced. There's no real time to have anyone figure out their relative weights and just instead assume that they're all roughly equal for the sake of keeping things balanced.
Lanval enjoys his bottle of the Quartermaster's Stash thoroughly while everyone balances for their very lives. One prays that he never finds where, exactly, it ends up stashed lest it become the Quartermaster's Former Stash.
Sephilia might fall, but not to worry - either a bubble or a portal is there to catch her, and the supports come back up from the drink below. Their path steadied, it's time to step on over to the other side...
...There's a beaten-up footlocker with some coins spilled out. Further analysis and/or destructive force (probably the latter, the lock is kind of busted) will soon find the floor host to more coins, some jewelry, and other things like a bottle of...
...Huh. There was a bottle there, and now it's gone.
It should be easy enough to carry the footlocker up once they scoop everything that fell out back into it, but anyway, Lanval has himself a great laugh. He's been laughing almost the entire time, but this one is definitely a great laugh. Even though everything smells bad, is damp, and they all went through some gross things.
"Aww, that wash fun!! Sho... Mish Nope, ahhh, shorry," he scratches the side of his head, bowing it to the side as he looks to Lydia, "were ya Lucadia inshtead? I don't mean nothin' by it, I've jusht heard so many... namesh, all thish time! Ha ha ha!"

<Pose Tracker> Sephilia Lampbright has posed.

Sephy mutters darkly about sewers and how she keeps coming to them and they're never anything but smelly and wet and awful and how she's never doing this again.

She'll totally do it again.

<Pose Tracker> Matilda Whitehead has posed.

Matilda proves to be extremely in favor of looting, and goes to great trouble to stuff each and every coin and earring and chain they encounter back into the locker to be carried out later.

"Well," she says, with a bright smile in Layna's direction, "I'd say this part makes perfect sense."

<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

Layna readily follows Matilda's instructions, and with everyone's help they're able to keep the platform steady long enough for the supports to rise back up.

Layna breathes a sigh of relief and moves forward to a what appears to be a supply of most-likely-stolen goods. Hey, Layna doesn't care. Finders-keepers, that's how it works in the world of crime.

"Aye, that it does, lass." Layna replies with a grin toward Matilda. "That it does."

<Pose Tracker> Lydia Seren has posed.

"Lydia works," Lydia tells Seraph Lanval because being called Lucadia is probably some kind of blasphemy, even if it's from a drunk servant of Althena. "Lucadia is just a Guardian spirit from Filgaia. Where we're from." Pause. "....Which you guys call the Blue Star." Pause. "Anyway, uh." Pause. "Yeah. That's about it!"

She is also in favor of looting to the surprise of nobody.

<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lanval has posed.

Lanval's eyes open at the explanation. He's holding that looted bottle in his hand. He seems motionless.
In fact, it is now possible to loot the bottle out of his hand as he tries to parse these words.

<Pose Tracker> Avril Vent Fleur has posed.

"Yes," Avril says, as diverting the subject -- or even the knowledge that it may be wise to divert the subject -- now depart these lands. "Lucadia is the name of a Guardian. You have not heard of them here, then."

<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lanval has posed.

"...???" The question marks are not a perfect representation of the confusion trying to escape from the Seraphim's visual manifestation of a throat. It's more 'huuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmuuuuuuuuhhhhhhrrrrrrr' but that's beyond the point.
This is an excellent opportunity to ditch him with the loot.
