  • Summary: Auron returns to the only place he can go to, to visit his former lord and closest friend. He has a few things to say.

(OOC Warning: Arr, headcanons and extrapolations abound! Ye've been warned, matey!)

The heavy single-edged blade swings down with enough force to split the bug-like monster in half... only the creature doesn't split. No, it dissolves into a multitude of wavering lights with contrails that look like water, each tiny light emitting a soft wailing sound, like a woman's sorrowful voice.

The wielder raises that massive blade from the ground, settling the point on the ground so that he can push up the dark glasses so that they hide his eyes again. Well... 'eye', really. The right eye is scarred closed by an old injury that slashes from hairline to just below his cheekbone. Though that is also partially hidden by the tall grey collar on his long red coat.

Auron -- as that is the name of the wielder of that blade -- gives a sigh, hefting the blade to sheathe it in the gray scabbard on his back. The thought occurs to him, ('I see the fiends are still as lively as ever...') If it had been spoken, it would have carried a distinct note of sarcasm. Of course the fiends are still around. Sin is still around.

At this, Auron's brow furrows. Yes, it is. And it's Auron's fault. At least, partially. This time. But now that he's in Spira again, he can act. There's hope, finally, that he can keep the promises he made, to both Braska and Jecht, and not just in a roundabout way. More than that, he can AVENGE their deaths.

...But, first things first. There's somewhere he needs to go.

The Scar in the Calm Lands is just as Auron remembered it being, that deep trench in the Calm Lands carved out during High Summoner Gandof's battle with Sin. Down into the gorge he travels, past the few travelers this far out... and THROUGH fiends when it becomes necessary, fighting through to get further into the Scar. Something important is here, and he means to press on.

And so, press on he does, until he reaches what looks like a slender, snapped wooden rod that looks like it had seen better days... years ago. Grass grows lush and thick around the snapped rod, which is odd, since it's rather sparse in the rest of the Scar.

Auron gives a sigh, and lowers himself down to a knee before the patch of grass, leaning on his sword buried point-down in the ground before him. For a moment he stays silent, staring at the snapped wooden rod. This is really the only place he has to properly visit his old friend; he couldn't visit the Farplane -- and he wouldn't even if he could; there's no privacy there, with everybody and their mother's cousin talking to nothing more than images -- and who would know this place better than the one who laid his body to rest?

Finally he speaks. "...Lord Braska. I'm... back again," he begins. "Jecht brought me here... with his son." Pause. Auron sighs, and bows his head, closing his remaining eye. "...I know I shouldn't even be here. And I know you wouldn't want... this for me. But I also know you would never have wanted what happened to Jecht, either. You would have blamed yourself, if you had known. So I will... try to stop this. To free him."

He draws a breath, and then stands, drawing his sword from the ground and stowing it on his back again. He opens that eye, looking again at the snapped wooden rod buried in the ground. "Please wait just a little longer, Braska... Just a little longer, and I'll be there. And so will Jecht..."

He stands a moment, silently, almost expectantly, as if he was expecting a response. But of course there is none. Auron gives another quiet sigh, and then turns to leave the Scar. He has a job to do. And it's liable to be a long, uphill battle...
