  • Log: Odd Company
  • Cast: Yue Rohay, Josephine Lovelace
  • Where: The Thames - Upper Deck
  • Date: March 02, 2020
  • Summary: While passing through the Thames, Josie crosses paths with Yue; whatever their particular people's woes, they hit it off, being perhaps birds of a feather.

<Pose Tracker> Yue Rohay has posed.

The Thames sees a lot of unusual individuals come and go.

Yue Rohay is, perhaps, a particularly unusual one as far as unusual individuals go, with her extremely long hair, her striking black ulster coat and enormous shackles around her arms and... actually, come to think of it, a purple tattoo that might at first glance be mistaken for a Symbological tattoo on her cheek.

She's seated in front of a Gear hangar on the top deck, where the remnants of the Aura are being hauled up onto a pair of cranes in anticipation of a rebuild. The Thames crew seem up to the challenge, and at the very least there are arguments to at least bring it back to functional state...

    ...

"One hundred and one... one hundred and two..."

The Minder is seated in front of her, staring at a sticker book marked Black Mage Points.

<Pose Tracker> Josephine Lovelace has posed.

    "Whatcha got there, kiddo?"

So asks one Josephine Lovelace, delightful archaeologist at large, after she approaches the pair. She has apparently chosen to regard first of all the kid with the sticker book. "Stickers? Nice job."

Her attention then turns to the woman with the purple tattoo, seated just behind the apparent child (...in a body-covering suit). Then her attention turns towards the Gear, the state of which prompts Josie to let out a low whistle. "That one yours?"

Her gaze returns to Yue, lingering on the shackles of all things.

"You know what they say, any crash you can walk away from is a good one."

<Pose Tracker> Yue Rohay has posed.

    "O-oh!"

The Minder looks up with a :S face glowing on her black, matte helmet. She holds up the book and then speaks in a slightly tinny voice: "This is my Black Mage book. If I collect enough Black Mage Points, I can learn magic one day."

Yue looks towards the archaeologist with an arced eyebrow, chuckling very faintly when she comments.

"That is terribly true, is it not?" Yue remarks. "Yue Rohay," she introduces. A pause. "A Veruni, if that might be an issue..."

<Pose Tracker> Josephine Lovelace has posed.

    "Oh yeah? Good on you."

Josie's one good hand slips off her hip and she kneels in front of Minder a moment. "Keep on collecting them, you hear? Someday, you'll be able to do this," and she snaps her fingers, summoning a small glowing orb of light that hovers a moment in her palm.

Before she stands and regards the other adult in the area right now.

"Yue, huh? The name's Josephine Lovelace. Call me Josie!"

'A Veruni, if that might be an issue.'

"Kiddo," she says to Yue, a lopside grin on her face, "I got one rule for dealing with people: as long as they stay out of my business, I don't care what they are or what they do. So don't sweat it, yeah?"

<Pose Tracker> Yue Rohay has posed.

The Minder's expression switches straight to :O! as the orb of light erupts and she jumps up and down several times. "I--I want to be able to do that! I will get there some point, right, CR-S01?"

'CR-S01' quietly nods, in a vaguely parental manner. "I have faith you can, dear Minder."

She looks towards Josephine again and chuckles. "Kiddo? 'Tis a refreshing change for once... I do not mind," she nods. "Josie, then. What brings you here? Are you a sorcerer of a kind?"

<Pose Tracker> Josephine Lovelace has posed.

Barely -- barely -- Josie manages to stifle a laugh. "You'll get there someday, kiddo! Just make sure you keep collecting those points."

She glances Yue's way as she plays along, as if to silently ask 'kid sister?'

Even a Veruni kid is still a kid. ...They're just kids in a full-bodysuit, apparently.
She'd heard rumors about what Veruni wore. So even the kids, huh...

"Heh. Here, I thought you'd maybe make a to-do about it. I hear your lot can outlive a human by centuries," she drawls, then shakes her head. "Listen, if you knew the kind of people I knew, I don't think you'd be surprised or nothin'."

Hyadeans, Hellions, and other sorts, to start...

"Me?" she gestures towards herself, the little orb of light coming along for the trip. "Looking for information. I'm an archaeologist."

...An archaeologist with at least two guns at her hip, apparently. There may be more under the coat tied around her waist!

    "Zeboim civilization ceramics, specifically."

    That's pretty specific.

<Pose Tracker> Yue Rohay has posed.

Yue catches that glance of Josephine's as she cheers the Minder on, and has a kind of gesture as if to say 'more or less'. Given the very weird title she referred to her by, and the way she called her 'Minder'... there must be a very weird relationship there.

"Mm... I do understand what you mean. I keep particularly odd company too," Yue chuckles rather ruefully. "Drifters are a particularly unusual lot these days."

She looks towards Josephine and her head shifts gently, tilting her head. "Zeboim ceramics, you say? Pray tell, I may be able to help you, depending on what you need."

<Pose Tracker> Josephine Lovelace has posed.

Maybe Veruni names are kind of weird (no).

The truth is, she doesn't really know what the situation is here but various factors -- the names, the shackles -- gives someone like Josie a vague inkling of the particular direction in which the situation may be tilted and... it's enough that she doesn't particularly feel like asking any further questions regarding.

    Not her problem; case closed.

"'These days', huh? --Heh, don't answer that one. I'm not sure I'm ready to feel 'as but a mayfly' again or nothing."

She waves her hand, and, after a moment, dismisses the globe of light, having noticed it's still hanging out with her, being an undismissed enchantment and all.

"Yeah. Kind of a niche thing, right? But much easier to transport than some kind of Zeboim, hmm, death ray," she remarks, gesturing vaguely with her good hand.

"I heard tell there's some sort of unexplored site in the area, maybe some island about. But looking for that's like looking for an earring in the desert. ...Don't suppose you've heard something or two?"

<Pose Tracker> Yue Rohay has posed.

There is a quiet 'mm' from Yue as she squints and thinks of it for a moment. The best she'd be able to do is vaguely recall what used to be in this landmass a long time ago, so she doesn't expect much. "Unexplored site... I do not suppose you have more of an inkling of what kind? A factory, or military base..."

The Minder looks up as the two adults start chatting again, looking towards the globe of light as it disappears.

<Pose Tracker> Josephine Lovelace has posed.

"No idea," Josie replies. "I've got some tilework from a similar site to compare it to, but I don't know if what I've got is some old home's stuff or maybe a particularly artistic military base."

She grins lopsidedly at that. "A long shot there, yeah, but don't count your chickens before they hatch and all. Maybe it was a real... supporter of the arts, Zeboim."

<Pose Tracker> Yue Rohay has posed.

Yue nods rather sympathetically, with a helpless shrug of her own as her shackles jangle just a little bit. "Come now, tileworks are particularly enlightening at the best of times. Many historians have oft placed jars and other antiques based on the kind of patterns popular to a time and culture."

There is a very slight shift as she says, "But I would hazard you are not looking for military. Most militaries of the era did not go for ceramic tilework, I am afraid."

A purse of her lips. "Perhaps you are dealing with Elw work, even. One certainly thinks of the Elw when stone carvings come into question."

<Pose Tracker> Josephine Lovelace has posed.

"No argument there, Yue," she says, gesturing again with her left hand alone. "Trust me, there's a reason this is my area of focus! That said, as durable as it is, it ain't... always possible to tell what a building was, yeah?"

She props her left hand on her hip, the other continuing to hang at her side.

"But you're probably right as rain on that one. Generally speaking, military-like types don't tend to favor ceramicwork."

    She pauses.

"Leastwise, other than the bathrooms, that is."

She apppears to consider what Yue's said about the Elw.

"Hmm, can't say I'm much familiar with Elw ceramicwork. They do that much? I've only been to Ruins of Memory, and that's so picked over I can't say who built it anymore."

<Pose Tracker> Yue Rohay has posed.

Yue scowls with a smirk for a moment and says, "Not even the bathrooms," as if she's speaking from memory. "All polished metallics and endless stretches of unvarnished concrete..." A pause, as she purses her lips as the topic shifts towards the Elw.

"I believe it to be as cultural as it is functional. If you have seen Elw-work, the carvings tend to fit between where the light of their technology filtrates through..."

A pause, as she gestures rather poorly. "Not that I have an example to show you. They are a reclusive sort." ... or extinct?

A pause, as she tilts her head to the Aura. "... 'tis a lot of enjoyment to be had, chasing one ruin after the other. I remember the day."

<Pose Tracker> Josephine Lovelace has posed.

At that pronouncement of the quality of Zeboim bathrooms, Josie arches a pale eyebrow. "Know from experience, huh..."

More and more questions all the time, on exactly how old a Veruni can get...

"A bit. Like I said, I've been to the Ruins of Memory, and it ain't exactly pristine no more." She lifts her hand as if to swat at an illusory fly. "But the way I hear it... it's usually organic-like. Smooth lines, flowing... and so on. Like a forest: all crowded together but in a way it's meant to go."

A far cry from Zeboim stylings, really.

"Extinct, I think. No one's seen one in ages."

The fact that Yue's not sure again makes her almost feel... uncomfortably young comparatively.

"Don't I know it, kiddo... makes me wonder what I'll do when I find what I'm looking for," Josie remarks, in the end, turning to similarly gaze up at the wreck of the Aura.

She grins, in spite of such words. "...Guess I'll just have to find out, eh?"
