Klaxons sound, and a voice shouts a word in Al Bhed over and over--to those who know the language, 'EVACUATE!' A distant shot of Summoner Yuna's Guardians running towards the buildings; a young man is eviscerated by a fiend and dies in Rikku's arms as Tidus, Wakka, Lulu, Kimahri, and Auron look on with varying levels of horror and sympathy. A bald man approaches them, then strides away.

As these play, a gruff man's voice voices over: "The name's Cid. I lead the Al Bhed. That's me there, with the shaved pate. What you're seein' is our Home--and the Summoner's Sanctum inside--gettin' attacked by Yevon's dogs. Now, I know there's a lot of you who'll say 'and you deserve it, too!'--but there's something the people of Spira have been takin' for granted about the summoners. So much so that Otherworlders don't even know. So take a good, hard look at this. Face the *truth*. And make up your own minds who the bad guys are here."

The scene cuts to Tidus, Rikku, and the others on a metal stairway. They're surrounded by the corpses of Rikku's Al Bhed brethren. The last pyreflies of defeated fiends shimmer away, and Lulu turns to Rikku.

"You kidnapped them," Wakka grunts in confirmation, his inflection mostly just tired, beaten down. His face softens a little; real understanding flickers in his eyes. "I mean, I get why you did it and all, but..."

"Well, I sure don't, you guys," Tidus says. The video cuts to him walking carefully down the stairs over the bodies to Rikku. He stops there and frowns, blond eyebrows furrowed. "They might get hurt on their pilgrimage so you kidnap them? I mean, if the summoners don't do their job, then who will beat Sin?" he says, incredulous. He softens a bit as he continues, "You want to protect them, I know. But guardians are there for that. If guardians do their job well, summoners will be safe! Right?"

No one answers him. No one quite meets his gaze. "*Right*?!" Tidus repeats, now with an edge of desperation.

The shot moves to an overhead, as Rikku and the others burst through a door into a metal room criss-crossed with pipes that run overhead that are now mostly busted, some of them leaking. /Many/ of them on fire. The fires are at least contained, and the room ventilated, but this is a far cry from a sanctum... especially with all the debris and bodies of the Al Bhed on the floor. The Summoners, Dona and Isaaru, are within, a bit scuffed but relatively untouched. As the shot pans in to include everyone, Wakka and Rikku voice over:

"Dis place done for," Wakka comments somberly.

"You're right," Rikku says. There's a tiny crack in her voice. "We Al Bhed... we weren't always like this. Sin destroyed the island where we all used to live. After that, we were scattered to every corner of Spira. But then, my Dad? He brought the Al Bhed together again. He thought, if we put our minds together and worked together... then we can make a new home. Everyone worked hard, we had our Home back again... but now..." She sounds smaller when she speaks again: "Why did things have to turn out this way?"

"Damn those Guado!" Wakka curses, blankly, blackly. "What are they thinking?"

At the voiceover's end, Isaaru smiles at Yuna's guardians with painful politeness while, nearby him, Dona dances the dance of the Sending. "They died... protecting us," Isaaru explains, as though he almost can't believe it. "It's not much, but the least we can do is give them a proper Sending."

Pacce, a small child far too young to be the guardian he is, runs up to Tidus. He is very small in this moment -- small in stature, small in voice, small in conviction. "Hey, um, what's 'sacrificed'?" he asks, hopeful in his youthful innocence. "The Al Bhed said summoners were being 'sacrificed.' That summoners shouldn't have to do a pilgrimage..."

Tidus's eyes widen. "Why couldn't they trust guardians to protect the summoners?" he asks aloud, voice low, hands shaking. It's as much a response to Pacce's own innocence as it is a question at large. His voice rises into almost a shout then: "The Al Bhed had no right stopping their pilgrimage!"

"They have to stop though!" Rikku says as she starts walking his way, suddenly animated, supremely passionate in her belief of this. The video cuts to Rikku on the verge of tears as she faces Tidus: "Summoners journey to get the Final Aeon - with the Final Aeon, she can beat Sin. But then - if she calls it, the Final Aeon's going to kill her! Even if she defeats Sin... it will... it will... it will kill Yunie too, you know!"

"Was I the only one who didn't know?" he says, voice low. The video cuts to an angled shot, and Tidus's anger is seeping away to make room for agony. "I didn't understand. I didn't know anything. I'm--*I'm* the one who should be sorry. All those things I said, about going to Zanarkand and beating Sin--"

A cut to the side as Tidus sinks to his hands and knees, pounding the metal floor with tears in his eyes. He screams with anguish and agony and anger. Over him, the pyreflies whirling about converge and form a massive fiend that reaches for him with deadly claws. The shot moves backwards to Isaaru and Dona summoning, to Valefor shoving the fiend back with her sonic wings before Ifrit tackles it away and grapples with it. Tidus staggers to his feet, scrambling out of the way of the attacks and stumbling forward.

"And I've been telling Yuna..." He picks up speed, running across the indoor battlefield, until he hurls himself into Valefor's chest. The aeon croons, looming over him, but with a certain sorrow and gentleness. Even when he beats her chest, she lets him vent his agony. "Let's go to Zanarkand together! Let's beat Sin! I told her all the things we could... we could... And all along, the whole time, I didn't know anything!" He sinks to the floor, hanging his head. "But Yuna, she'd... just smile."

The next shot shows Tidus racing into what people may recognize as an airship, the rest of Yuna's guardians at his heels. The bald man, Cid, is there, barking orders in Al Bhed to the crew.

"Where's Yuna?" Tidus demands. When no one pays him any mind, he grabs Cid and lifts him up. "I said, where is she? ANSWER ME! *Answer me*, damn you!"

The strength drains from Tidus; slowly, he lets Cid down. "I didn't know anything about what a summoner is supposed to do," he admits awkwardly. "And I told her all those things without even knowing. I've got to tell her." With renewed passion, he blurts out, "I've got to tell her I'm sorry!"

"That's it? You're gonna tell her you're sorry?" Cid sneers. "And then you just drag her to Zanarkand and make her fight Sin, huh? You're all the same--let the summoner die--" He breaks Tidus's hold on him, then flips him over his shoulder and slams him into the deck. "--so we can live in peace!!"

Tidus lands hard, but he recovers quickly to scramble around. "No!! I'm not gonna let Yuna die!"
