|Profile=It's been a long road for Spira's so-called "Legendary Guardian" -- though he'd just as soon not be called that. From young, naive warrior monk trained by the Church of Yevon in the fighting arts with a large, single-edged sword he calls a "Katana" (though is more like a zweihander) to disillusioned old veteran, the changes in Auron's life -- and unlife -- have been drastic and sudden. Unbeknownst to most of Spira, he is Unsent, a soul that came back after his death to try to keep the promises he made in life. Auron once lived his life for Braska, and later, he and Jecht. Now that he's Unsent, it's for the two people he cared for the most that he continues to exist beyond his death. He cannot -- and will not -- rest until Sin is destroyed, and the deaths of his lord Braska and his best friend Jecht are avenged.

|Background=
Little is said about Auron's past. It's likely that he lost his parents fairly young -- perhaps too young for him to know much about them -- and placed in the care of the Temple at Bevelle. He grew up to become a Warrior-Monk of Yevon, one of the Church's protectors. However, when he was in his late teens to early twenties, the clergy had an idea. Auron did his work well, and was so very devoted to the Church that they thought he would make a wonderful priest -- perhaps he would be fit for the position of Maester, even?

A high-ranking priest offered his daughter's hand in marriage to Auron. It was expected for him to accept, to settle into his new life, and continue up the hierarchy. However, Auron refused the marriage. He wanted nothing to do with politics or ruling. He knew if he became a Maester, he would never be allowed a moment's peace. And he wanted no part of the bickering he heard amongst the clergy. He wanted only to protect the people of Spira from Sin as much as he could. More than that, he refused to trap a woman who did not love him in a marriage that she did not want. however, if he had an ambitions of climbing the career ladder, so to speak, they were utterly destroyed with his refusal of the marriage. After his refusal, Auron was regarded with less respect than before by his peers and superiors. In fact, he was treated as something of a pariah for having refused.

But all that changed when he met Braska. Braska was a priest of Yevon who had been working for better relationships between the worshippers of Yevon and the Al Bhed, trying to spread the teachings of Yevon to them -- to educate them rather than simply shun the Al Bhed as all other worshippers of Yevon did. Braska had been cast out of the clergy himself, after marrying an Al Bhed woman that he had fallen in love with -- the sister of the Al Bhed leader Cid. However, while trying to reach her family to mend the ties between them (as Cid had disowned her after she married Braska), her ship was attacked by Sin and she was killed. This drove Braska to become a Summoner, to defeat Sin.

Auron was drawn to Braska for his strength of will; despite being a soft-spoken and patient man, he was as stubborn as Auron was, and just as impossible to sway from his course of action. And above all, he didn't treat Auron like an outcast because of his decision not to marry. All this served only to strengthen Auron's devotion to Braska. He became one of Braska's staunchest supporters, often defending the man before those who would speak ill of him. Once Braska decided to become a Summoner, Auron was the first to try to dissuade him (as that path ended only in death), but when Braska made up his mind, Auron was the first to offer to be his Guardian.

However, before the two of them left Bevelle after Braska had become a Summoner officially, Braska wanted to investigate something he had heard. There was a man in the cells underneath the city, a drunkard, claiming that he was from Zanarkand. Now, anyone who had a brain in his head knew that Zanarkand was ruins. At least, that's what the legends said, and so did the clergy. So anyone claiming to be FROM there had to be at the very least completely drunk, or at worst completely insane. However, Braska wanted to see. So it was that they went down to the cells. The upshot of the matter was that Jecht, as the drunkard was named, became Braska's second Guardian -- much to the initial dismay of Auron.

While the two initially got along like oil and water, along the journey Auron also came to understand and get along with Jecht. Not only that, he came to care for him as he did Braska. Despite the brusque mannerisms, the lack of common sense, and the ego larger than Mount Gagazet, there really was a pure heart underneath it all. Perhaps this is why, when they learned the true nature of the Final Summoning, that it was only temporary, Auron begged Braska to reconsider it. It wouldn't change anything, he said. Sin would just come back; it ALWAYS came back! But what else could they do? Even temporarily, it was the only way, wasn't it?

Jecht volunteered to be Braska's Fayth, hoping to find meaning in his life. Yunalesca, the daughter of Yevon himself, took Jecht's soul from his body and made it into a Fayth for Braska. And then Braska and Auron went to the Calm Lands, Braska Summoned Jecht, and as Braska's Final Aeon, Jecht battled Sin. Jecht won... but then Yevon took control of Jecht, and turned the Aeon on Braska. Auron was too shocked to intervene. But somehow Jecht managed to stop himself just as he was about to kill Auron as well. Seeing himself changing, Jecht ran away from the Calm Lands before he could follow through with killing Auron.

Seeing it all happen before him, powerless to stop, was too much for Auron. In a rage, he ran back to Zanarkand and confronted Yunalesca. What had been the sense in the loss that had just occurred? Braska died, and Jecht would be doomed to kill until the next poor Summoner let Yunalesca rip the soul from his or her Guardian. Yunalesca was too much locked into her way of thinking, her soul too constrained by her purpose, to see the futility of it all. And Auron, in his devastated state, was in no condition to try to explain it. Instead, with a scream of rage, frustration, and grief, he attacked her. As if swatting a fly, Yunalesca simply raised her hand and blasted Auron away, ripping wounds into his body, without a second thought. Crowning her callous and unfeeling deed, she merely turned away and left him there, bleeding, on the floor.

Somehow Auron got up, forcing himself to his feet, and literally crawled down Mount Gagazet. When he reached the Calm Lands, he was found by an Al Bhed named Rin, and taken to the Travel Agency, where his wounds were bandaged and he was let to rest and recover. However, Auron had work to do. He knew he had little time left. So after only a single night, he left the Travel Agency, heading for Bevelle. He had a promise to keep; he had promised Braska that he would see to it that Yuna grew up away from Bevelle -- in Besaid.

He managed to make it all the way to Bevelle, but just outside the city, his strength finally deserted him. As he lay there dying, someone appeared. It was a Ronso by the name of Kimahri, who had left Mount Gagazet in shame, his horn broken in a duel with Biran Ronso. He came to tend the dying Auron, and Auron begged him to complete the last request of his Summoner, to bring his daughter Yuna to Besaid. Kimahri agreed, and left to do so. And then, the blood loss too much for even the stalwart Guardian to endure, Auron finally died.

But that was not the end of Auron's story. Unable to accept that all three of them -- Braska, Jecht, and he -- had all died for NOTHING, Auron was unable to rest. He came back as an Unsent, and soon discovered that he could now keep the promise he made to Jecht before he became Braska's Final Aeon. To take care of Jecht's son. He went to the Dream of Zanarkand on the back of Sin and found the seven-year-old Tidus, with an ailing mother, and offered to help her care for the boy. Sadly, it wasn't enough to keep her alive, as she pined for Jecht until she finally died.

For ten years, Auron remained in Dream Zanarkand, looking after Tidus. He was not the best of parental figures, but he did ensure that the boy grew up safe and cared for. He had no intentions of returning to Spira; with Kimahri's promise to see to Yuna, all his obligations in that world were fulfilled. He intended to see to it that Tidus grew up and could fend for himself, and then he would let himself die.

Except ten years after he arrived, something happened. On the day of the Jecht Memorial Cup of that year, Sin attacked the Dream, destroying the stadium. In the instant that he felt the presence of Jecht, he knew what the ex-star player of the Abes wanted. Jecht had come for his son, to bring him to Spira. Auron decided that he too would return to Spira, and would bring Tidus with him, to give him a chance to truly live. So as all the others in Dream Zanarkand ran away from Sin, he directed Tidus towards it, giving him the longsword that Jecht had left him. They reached Sin, and with the last words Tidus would hear from him for a while -- "This is it. This is your story." -- the two of them were drawn into Sin, and into Spira.

It's been a long road for Spira's so-called "Legendary Guardian" -- though he'd just as soon not be called that.

Background

Powers and Abilities

Auron was trained as a warrior-monk of Yevon, his weapon of choice being a large single-edge blade he calls a "Katana". Besides the danger to an opponent that being hit with a sharp piece of metal this large, Auron can also channel energy into this Katana to accomplish a variety of effects, most built around breaking an enemy's battle strength in various ways.

Also, unbeknownst to many, Auron is Unsent, and this allows him to survive injuries that a living person would not be able to survive.

Auron's strength of will, even before he died, also deserves a mention here. After he was wounded by Yunalesca, he managed to travel from Mt. Gagazet almost to Bevelle, with nothing but a single night's rest. After he died, he came back Unsent, and kept himself together for ten years to see to Tidus.
