Insufferably snide and willing to do almost anything so long as he gets paid, the swordsman Ryudo serves to reinforce most negative stereotypes associated with Geohound sellswords. Ryudo shows little tolerance for ignorance and what he deems to be stupidity, often coming across as a crude and unfriendly individual who prefers the company of his hawk Skye to fellow humans. Despite this, his bluster and barbed words conceal a sense of justice that makes it difficult for him to turn his back on the helpless. Recently hired by the Church of Granas to serve as a bodyguard for the Songstress Elena, Ryudo is slowly finding himself dragged into a confrontation between the very gods he makes sport of.

Background

Powers and Abilities

  • Garlan-style Swordsmanship: Ryudo has spent his entire childhood having the ancestral sword techniques of the Garlan people drilled into him. While he seems to have chosen to abandon his home rather than devoting an entire lifetime to mastering the style and improving it for future generations, one would be hard-pressed to find his sword skills lacking. In practice, most Drifters would simply identify that Ryudo utilizes a sword style that they haven't come across before, one which balances powerful strokes from a bastard sword with ki channeling techniques to disrupt an opponent's combat aptitudes.
  • "Falconry": To the untrained eye, Ryudo is a swordsman who incorporates unusual elements of falconry into his martial techniques. The "falconry" theory usually goes out the window once Skye begins trapping opponents in purple energy cages and dragging them around the battlefield. Skye is also far more robust than his size would suggest, capable of carrying the weight of a human (and far heavier monsters) small distances.
  • Shamanism: While he doesn't usually wear it in cities, in the wilds Ryudo typically keeps a butterfly engraved medium strapped to his chest with a bandoleer so that he doesn't have to fish it out during battle. Ryudo seems to use this medium as more of a practical combat tool than anything, as the rest of his mannerisms certainly don't scream "shaman" -- and he is clearly anything but religious.

Relationships

Tolerable

  • Cyre H. Lorentz - Ol' Kitty-ears seems to be able to carry his own weight, and I can respect that. I'll need to keep the conversations well away from Guardian worship though.
  • Riesenlied - Apparently Metal Demons have huge racks, tragic pasts, hunt bandits as a form of community service, and think it's a good idea to mentally connect a bunch of random strangers in the heat of battle. Either that or she's the exception to the rule. ...Pretty sure it's got to be the latter.
  • Dean Stark - A bit of a liability, but okay otherwise. Kids are great before they grow up, and he seems to be taking the scenic route to adulthood.

Insufferable

  • Elena - The only prayer to Granas in my heart is that all of his worshipers aren't this shrill on my ears.

Seriously What The Hell

  • Asteroid the Kid - Lunatic. Why would you drag a cart with you into a freaking mountain ruin? Were you TRYING to get us all killed, or are you just really bad at it?
