"That's how I know you're full of shit: you keep bein' a pain in my ass!"

As quick with a sharp word as she is with her elemental lightning, Ragnell has a cynical dislike of humans due to having watched them betray their own over and over again. Though a stranger to Filgaia, she's taken to the sandy dog-eat-dog world of wanderlust like a horse to water and will pop up just about anywhere in it. Easily and often mistaken for a man, Ragnell is rude, coarse, unvarnished, smart-assed, and a lover of pranks. While it's not beyond her to help the weak out when the mood takes her, there's a certain extra-steely look in her eye when she sizes up particularly strong humans--and sometimes she'll challenge them to fights, wielding a pair of lightning-charged pistols with formidable skill, just because she can. Yet at other times, she might well fight alongside them instead as she digs through the world in search of its secrets. Other times still, she might have a few juicy tidbits of information to offer--for a price. Is she an enemy or an ally? Either way, there's no way a varmint like her could have any deeper meaning for what she does. ...right?

Background

  • Born.
  • Got warned that humans are terrible.
  • Ignored this, as you do.
  • Made friends.
  • Experienced the terribleness of humans firsthand.
  • Lost friends.
  • Went on a journey, as you do.
  • Made more friends.
  • A Lord of Calamity happened.
  • Lost more friends.
  • Picked a fight with a Fell Dragon.
  • Somehow didn't die.
  • Made even more friends, because Ragnell can't stop.
  • Ended up on Filgaia, as you do.
  • Changed her whole aesthetic to suit it because YES RAGNELL LIKES.
  • En route to lose even more friends.
  • Which brings us to present day!

Powers and Abilities

  • Lightning-elemental Seraphic magic, including offense and healing.
  • A pair of pistols. They appear at first glance to be ARMs due to her channeling her lightning magic through them, but they're actually normal guns.

Relationships

Shepherd's Retinue

  • Lailah: "The mom-est o' mom friends. I respect her willin'ness to put herself on the line over an' over again for what she believes in. As a pair o' Seraphim, we're real different, but there's nothin' like a good bad joke to make two folks bond."
  • Edna: "Don't know that we're friends, but I wouldn't say we're *not* friends, neither. She an' me get each other, at least on one or two levels. An' damn, I *love* her sense o' humor, even more'n Lailah's. Good luck t' her with Eizen, too."
  • Mikleo: "Ahaha... Goddess, but lookin' at him is embarrassin' on so many levels. Guess kids are jus' like that, though. Hope he doesn't end up regrettin' the path he's chosen... for everyone's sake."
  • Dezel: "Can't say I'm keen on how he yanked Rose's body around all those years, but hey, now that she can see 'im, that's their business an' not mine. We get along all right otherwise. With what a grouch he is, it's fun t' mess with 'im."
  • Princess Alisha: "Didn't like her at first, but... I have to admit, she's grown on me. She doesn't shy away when faced with the frank truth, an' she keeps facin' challenges head-on. She's still got a long ways to go, but... I think she might actually get there, eventually."
  • Rose: "She's damn fun t' tease in a totally different way from 'Lisha. There's nothin' quite like someone who'll play hardball right back with ya--which jus' makes it better when I score points on her, heh. She's got a lot o' potential, an' I look forward to seein' what she can do."
  • Sorey: "Don't think he cares much for me, but I don't need him to. I jus' need him to grow stronger, both as the Shepherd an' as a human being."

Vile Fiends

  • Lemina Ausa: "I like 'er spirit. Her attitude that burdens are things to be overcome so you can develop a stronger heart... Heh. That's an Ausa for ya, for sure. We worked together pretty well on those purification experiments, her an' me an' Cece. Wonder what she's up to now that she's back on 'er home turf."
  • Jean: An interesting figure within the Vile Fiends. Jean took Ragnell's flirting to the next level, which led to a nice time, but Ragnell would prefer it not go further than that. For right now, she's more interested in that technique she used on Lady Harken...
  • Hiro and Ruby: A swordsman companion to Lucia, and his Red Dragon buddy. Actually, Ragnell knows Ruby better, since until recently, only Ruby could see her. She and Ruby have an understanding, but if Ragnell knew Ruby wanted her to think she's cool, she'd be pretty amused by that. Hiro doesn't stand out to her as much by comparison, but that may change in the future now that he's started to see her too.
  • Gwen Whitlock: A courier with an electricity-based ARM. Ragnell played a prank on her that purely by accident switched on Gwen's ability to see Seraphim and Malevolence. Ragnell's used her as a contact multiple times now, and they get along well, especially after ending up part of the Vile Fiends.
  • Lucia: "Now that I've met the true Lord o' Calamity, it's definitely true Lucia ain't it, Malevolence or no. So is what Hiro told me about Zophar an' shit all true too? This feels like somethin' I ought to dig more into--an' I'm sure these guys would be happy t' help."

Ebony Wings

  • Riesenlied: Reminds Ragnell of someone she used to know. She enjoys teasing her, but in truth she respects her for her resolve. Her desire to bridge the river of animosity that splits humans and Metal Demons is a little beyond Ragnell, but she respects how far she's willing to go in the name of it.
  • Noeline: Reminds Ragnell of... no, never mind. Obviously Riesenlied's lover. Ragnell enjoys her sass. They were a little rough going at first, but they had a blunt exchange and now they're fine with each other. Ragnell understands her devotion to Riesenlied intimately.

Dawn Chasers

  • Cecilia Adlehyde: "Hehhh... She works harder than I thought. Stronger'n I thought, too, an' I don't mean just with those Mediums o' hers. I got a feelin' she'll go far as a Shaman o' th' Guardians--if her friends can actually support her... I best keep on keepin' an eye on her."
  • Claude C. Kenny: "The King o' th' Jobbers is well-named. I could watch 'im all day an' never get bored."
  • Rena Lanford: "She's quite the healer. Can't say as I know her too well, but we've run into each other a few times. I gotta wonder, though... She's the only elf I've seen 'round Ignas, east or west. If she's Filgaian, where exactly did she come from?"

Caravan Kinship

  • Lunata Croze: "For an ex-waitress, she sure makes a fine swordswoman. She's got a lot o' potential in her. Haven't seen her in a while, though... Wonder what she's been up to lately?"
  • Lydia Seren: "Hehhh, so that's what happened when Asteroid left Crucible. She's kinda cute without the weird Astie-head thing goin' on. Seems jus' as gay as ever, too. Glad to see the important things haven't changed."
  • Ethius Hesiod: "Much as I'd like to keep this fuckin' weirdo under surveillance, he's too weird an' erratic for me to keep an eye on as often as would actually be useful. If only he were the type to talk aloud to 'imself. We'll just see what's up with 'im, though..."
  • Cyre H. Lorentz: "Oh, your village got hit, burned, swamped with Malevolence, an' your local Statue nearly shattered? Sucks t' be you, man, but y'all won that fight. Shouldn't you be focusin' on the positives? No? Guess your heart's not that tough after all then, huh."
  • Matilda Whitehead: "So she can see me now, huh. Heh, that just means she'll be fun t' mess with in whole new ways."

Fox Company

  • Talise Gianfair: "Basically a tickin' time bomb. I'm genuinely surprised she didn't Hellion out on th' spot back in Krosse. I'm bettin' it'll happen sooner or later, though, an' when she does--she'll be a fine obstacle for her stouter-hearted friends to overcome."
  • Sephilia Lampbright: "Yeah, yeah, I know she's still a kid. She's still annoyin', though. There's nothin' worse than an immature brat who insists they're all grown up. ... ...Actually there's loads o' worse things, but let's jus' pretend for a sec here."
  • Seraph Lanval: "Can't say I'm surprised as he rolled himself into th' first group that spared him a touch o' sympathy an' could see 'im. Lanval always was kinda clingy. They better not take advantage of 'im, though, or they'll have to answer to me."

Yggdrasil Alliance

  • Xantia: "What a spaz--an' I mean that in a good way. There's somethin' damn interestin' about her, the way she both can an' can't sense me at the same time... An' there was the incident in the desert, too. I'm sure learnin' more about her will be a hell of a ride."
  • Fei Fong Wong: "So he's a friend of Elly's, huh? Boy, I feel sorry for this fella. I gotta laugh at the part where he thinks us two are friends, though. I'll have to be extra nice to 'im, just to piss Smelly off that much more."

Crucible

  • K.K.: "..."
  • Agatha Pyrelight: "Oh. Her. Yeah, I know 'er. Can't say as I like her much, but you don't need to like someone to work with 'em."
  • Seraph Nimue: "Haha, Nim, you fuckin' spaz."
  • Neriah Parringer: "Seems like she's got a better handle on who an' what she is now. 'Course, 'better' doesn't mean 'perfect' or even 'decent.' I think it'd be real interestin' to fight her, see what that thing inside her is really capable of... 'Specially since she seems t' like me, heh."
  • Iskandra Grendorre: "It's jus' like a Hellion to wanna take revenge on a country, 'long with its ~venerated leaders~, but hey, if someone's gonna wanna un-make an entire nationality, it may as well be those Rolance fuckfaces."

Althena's Guard

  • White Knight Leo: The uptight, rigid leader of Althena's Guard. Ragnell doesn't have strong feelings about him one way or another, but she is deeply amused by his willingness to assume that when he can't hear what she's saying, it's something wise and enlightened as befitting a servant of the Goddess Althena.
  • Thessaly: A sorceress bonded, somehow, to Garan. Though she seems demure and polite on the surface, Ragnell has seen a violent passion beneath. She's intrigued by her and wants to learn more--but base curiosity aside, while she doesn't dislike her, she's not sure she likes her, either.
  • Garan Dantear: A knight bonded, somehow, with Thessaly. Ragnell is aware of his strength, having watched him fight his way to second place in the Lacour Tournament, but she doesn't have much of an opinion of him as a person.

Metal Demons

  • Siegfried: The leader of the Metal Demons. Very Serious. Also very STRONG, as Ragnell has personally experienced. They're not exactly friends by any means, but they both know what's up now.
  • Zed: A feisty, courageous, hilarious, powerful, dumb-as-bricks Metal Demon. Ragnell enjoys his company and marvels at his innocence of certain things. Metal Demons are really something else, huh?
  • Yarobeleedt:

Solaris

  • Elhaym van Houten: "Goddess, she sure is attached to people who treat her like garbage. I'd feel sorry for her if she weren't such an ass about it."
  • Loren Voss: "An' by 'people' I mean 'this douchebag.' It's a damn shame we don't run into each other more often, 'cuz I'd be jus' fine with kickin' 'im over a lot more than I get to."
  • Seraphita: "This bunny-girl's a goddamn delight--an' jus' full o' surprises, like the time she fuckin' ate part o' me. No hard feelin's, though. I was givin' her friends shit, an' she's nice an' chatty in exactly the most convenient ways."

The Veruni

The Furies

  • Ida Everstead-Rey: "Oh. So she's a Hellion now, huh. Guess I'll be leanin' on Emma for the analysis o' that tome from the Berry Cave, then."
  • Garrett Stampede: "Literally anyone coulda told you th' Hellion thing was gonna happen. I saw it comin' from miles away, an' I met him maybe once or twice."

Miscellaneous

  • Maya Schrodinger: "Congrats on savin' your girlfriend, champ. Now where's that wine you said you owed me for helpin' out?"
  • Virginia Maxwell: "Told ya she wasn't gonna last. But hey, at least she didn't last in a good way. Good on her for overcomin' her weakness."
