The Tzadkiel is a Solarian aerial cruiser that serves as Gebler's flagship and base of operations when not docked in Bledavik. From a Solarian perspective it is designed more as an all-purpose air vessel than a battle cruiser, though it boasts more than enough firepower on it's own to singlehandedly level most cities on the surface. It is tasked with monitoring surface activities throughout Ignas and it's surrounding regions, able to traverse the content in a matter of hours if necessary. Boasting an 18th era excavated slave era, the operational limit of the Tzadkiel is indefinite, leading most crew members to simply live aboard the ship rather than take 'shore leave' in Bledavik.

Background

The Tzadkiel appeared when Gebler did, and is the most visible symbol of Solaris's influence on the surface. When not docked in Bledavik the airship is deployed to various hotspots of activity across Ignas and neighboring Elru, and is often utilized to quickly deliver troops, gears, and other resources where they are needed. Rarely a participant in direct combat actions, the Tzadkiel more often serves as forward base from dropships and gear lances launch to reach an operation. Civilians in all regions of Ignas may have occasionally glimpsed it as it goes to and fro assignments, often leaving from or returning to the direction of Bledavik.

Features

The Tzadkiel has numerous redundancies built into its hull that allows for a great deal of open space, including a large hangar for gears and transports as well as living and recreational areas for it's large crew. The ship is capable of creating and maintaining it's own food supply to an extent (they still need to get meat from somewhere) and has a full-time fabricator dedicated to maintaining certain basic material goods. The medical bay is among the most advanced to be found in Filgaia outside of Etrenank, and is equipped to treat nearly all forms of non-fatal injury and disease known to the surface.

The ship propels itself by means of an advanced form of gravity control rather than traditional combustion-based propulsion, which allows for extremely smooth movement experience on board the ship. The engine, linear catapult (for launching gears), shields, and nuclear cannon (don't ask) are all operated seamlessly by the ship's slave generator, which provides a constant source of clean energy, and allows for the Tzadkiel's indefinite deployment time.

Trivia

  • In Xenogears, the Gebler flagship never had a canon name. 'Tzadkiel' is an alternate spelling of Zadkiel, the archangel of freedom, benevolence, and mercy, and the patron angel of all who forgive.
  • Tzadkiel is also the name of a time travelling, spacefaring starship that appears in Gene Wolfe's Urth of the New Sun novel.
