| PRE-ENCOUNTER SUMMARY: | 2017/06/04: Individual spotted using of pyromancy of unusual potency to heavily damage Golem Diabolos. Identified as apparent human male, possible ethnographic match to Baskar tribal peoples, uncertain age. Height approximately six feet, average build. Further observation requested. |
| ENCOUNTER SUMMARY: | 2017/06/14: Individual observed in Rujm el-Hiri; damaged objects and attacked POI Omega-08.
Behavioral observations: Unemotive. Quiet. Did not talk much. Occasionally provided assistance to others during exploration, but also attacked a partner (Neriah) without hesitation when threatened; easily dissuaded from further aggression. Displays strong stoic traits. When speaking, tendency to use complex words and terms. Speech and speech pattern also unemotive. Ability observations: Favors use of staves (was observed wielding a quarterstaff). Sorcery use is Symbology-type. Symbology crests seen on forearms and neck (only uncovered skin); bare skin was covered in Symbols. Attaching attempted reproduction of a few Symbols to report. Earth, electricity, heat orientation in Symbology use. Able to read the ancient script at ruins once in the heart but did not display this ability or inclination earlier despite opportunities. In possession of a scanning-type lens of apparently higher technological capacity than usual, similar in function to my own. Other observations: Does not appear to have much contact with greater surface-dwelling society. Further observation determined subject appears to camp near known ruin sites, apparently awaiting the arrival of other Drifters. Does not from time spent observing him to appear to have contacts or other allies, nor any support from others. Possibly could be agent on long-term assignment; time spent observing subject too short to make conclusive determinations based on evidence. 2017/07/16: Appending to Lieutenant van Houten's site report on the Temple of Rejection, I have made the following observations regarding our target, Aeshma aka 'Ethius'. 1) According to reports, target is associating with an organized group called the 'Caravan Kinship', associated with a woman Jacqueline Barber, an apothecary from Adlehyde. 2) Target demonstrated further use of dust-oriented Symbology; this appeared to have an inordinate debilitating effect on Ortell's cybernetic implants. 3) Judging from earlier observations of the target, he should be well aware of the danger caused by applying water or other liquids to electronic systems. As he is known for destroying technological devices and attempted to obliterate the automated drones we discovered, I would surmise that his attack on the terminal was not entirely out of desperation and was likely deliberate. 4) Target may be aware that he is being tracked. I noted several times during the expedition where he appeared to be watching Ortell, van Houten, and myself. Additionally, he appeared to be paying special attention to the actions we and others took while within the ruins, as if intending to gauge our strength. 2017/08/18: Operation Angler a partial failure. See mission report for details. Observations of POI from report follows: Several facts stand out in light of this operation. First, after consideration of the targets actions as stated and previous reports and his own inability to answer any of my questions, I suspect he does not fully comprehend why he pursues and damages ancient technology. It appears to be part of a compulsion or instinct, possibly a manifestation of mental illness-research of this nature is lacking for surface dwellers. Second, an incongruity is noticed in the surveillance photography taken during the battle. The pilots of the reconnaissance craft confided in a later debriefing that they felt the target was looking at them in one of the images, as if aware of their presence. This ought to be impossible considering the operating altitude of the recon craft at the time, but it is worth nothing. Pilots were recommended 48 hours of rest and follow-up examination by medical. Third, I submitted a sample of the targets blood (Taken during battle) for testing, as a precaution. Preliminary tests have shown no substantial difference, but I have requested additional screening to ensure nothing is missed. I expect it be processed in several days. |
