MONTHS AGO
MT. GAGAZET, SPIRA

"... I'm leaving the key here," Rixia sets a small iron key down on the table, looking up towards the elderly Ronso matron that once lived next to her parents. "Thank you for everything. But I don't think I'll come back here."

There's an uncomfortable silence as the young snow fox looks down towards the ground.

The matron shifts, where she's seated in her chair. With her advanced age, she's dressed more warmly than her younger kin, and bears a dignified appearance.

"I told you that you would be welcome anytime in the mountain. Alwaid accepted you as his child."

Rixia glances towards the window, where the residence she'd spent a few weeks recuperating stood, nestled into the frosted mountainside of Gagazet.

"... it's not my home. I tried, but it always feels like I'm pushing on someone else's home, full of the little things and memories of a family I never was able to meet." A pause. "The family my dad wanted to come back to."

The matron lowers her head, and then remarks, "... it is true that he missed his family dearly. But I do not believe that because that is true, that he did not care about you too."

"It might be true," Rixia admits, "But it's far too late to have any words that'll help. He was already a Fiend by the time I found him." She places her hand to her chest.

"... I feel his confusion. His anger. The betrayal that Seymour Guado brought upon the mountain and the Ronso. His struggle with serving under Althena's Guard, and Yevon, and the truths that he found out."

The matron slowly rises from her seat, and walks nearer to Rixia. "He would not want you to remember him by his grief. And neither does a home only need to be a memory of the past. These things... can all change."

Rixia is unable to respond to that; she turns, drawing her shawl a bit closer to her. "... thank you for everything."

The matron holds the key up gently.

"I will not throw away this key. I know not where your journey will take you, but one day, when you find the road too difficult and daunting, and you need rest... on that day..."

She tucks it into her coat pocket.

"... come home, Rixia of Mt. Gagazet, and you will find prepared, always, what you need to soothe your soul. This I promise, as Alwaid's mother."

NOW

"... psy?" Psyduck inquires, curious, as he turns his head to look at Rixia.

"I was just reminded of something, Psyduck. You're really wise, you know that? Let's go get you a treat," Rixia offers her companion.
