SCENE LOG: Puzzles and Traps and Secrets
LOCATION: Sult Ruins
PARTICIPANTS: 2LT Voss, 2LT van Houten, Corwynt, Noah Hawthorne, Rena Lanford
RELICS RECOVERED: Hide-bound ancient texts
PRE-EXPLORATION SUMMARY: Based on intelligence and prior reports, Sult Ruins is believed to date to the Day of Collapse. The culture that constructed the ruins is unknown; based on analysis it is likely to product of a now-destroyed surface-based civilization. As directed, once initial analysis and preparation were completed, I made contact with the local Adventurer's Guild and under my alias, hired on three native explorers as assistance. The Lambs were identified as NOAH HAWTHORNE, CORWYNT, and RENA LANFORD.
EXPLORATION SUMMARY: Military activity has been and was noticed at the time of expedition but did not provide more than a minor hindrance at the outset -- the observed soldiers were clad in unmarked uniforms. As we distracted the soldiers rather than engage them directly, I cannot unequivocally speak for their alliances.

Summary of Drifters in attendance:

  • HAWTHORNE is a mature male human, allegedly an experienced explorer of ruins according to details received. Individual primarily demonstrated familiarity with obstacles in ruins and a willingness to engage in covert activities. No other special skills observed at this time.
  • LANFORD is a young demihuman female, of the elf subtype. Individual reported sensitivity to sounds; will need confirmation if this is typical to their subtype. Appears to possess some minor martial arts prowess.
  • CORWYNT is a mature male human, allegedly a martial artist and demonstrated significant martial arts prowess. Individual possesses the ability -- or possibly device that allows same -- to provide detailed recall/information regarding various obstacles we encountered. Individual demonstrated use of sorcery; type was unfamiliar to me.

2LT van Houten also provided support throughout this expedition.

We encountered a combination of traps and puzzle-like obstacles once inside the ruins. Enemy presence was low, limited to a single encounter with slime-type hostiles. Exploration was completed without significant incident beyond the aforementioned traps. A cache-type area was breached.

RECOMMENDED ACTION: The area of the ruins appeared completely undisturbed in the deepest reaches we explored, and there was no suggestion of trespass or anything having been hidden in the upper areas; certainly not in the last few months. A thorough investigation of the lower areas, in spite of afore-mentioned appearances, resulted in little but a few highly primitive hide-bound texts hidden in the secret cache; I collected a sampling of these and they have been been submitted to Cultural.

No other anomalies were observed during our excavation. Conclusion: SLIDE-1 has not been hidden here.

COMMENTS: Attachment: Expense account: job request fees from Adventurer's Guild for the persons hired.
