- Summary: A pirate and an alchemist meet, flirt, fight in, and summarily completely destroy, a bar. A good time was had by all...as long as you're one of those two.
===============================<* Dazil City *>=============================== Located a few miles from the southern edge of the Great Aveh Desert, Dazil serves as the staging point for expeditions and travels deeper into the heart of the continent. Wells dug deep intot he earth with the assistance of the Ethos still produce water, and so the small city remains viable despite the ongoing desertification. With its proximity to the excavation sites dotting the Great Aveh Desert, Dazil attracts a great deal of attention from Etones, Drifters, and anyone else interested in uncovering ARMs. Aveh's military keeps a close eye on the goings-on in Dazil, and stands ready to confiscate ancient weapons or Gears uncovered by fortune-seekers...although with the battle lines ever shifting, those forces are occasionally called away for a few precious hours.

The bars of Filgaia were a fantastic place to obtain information - rumors of jobs and goings-on flew like birds. Unfortunately, they were also rather dangerous - punches had a tendency to fly just as often. Perhaps a patron had too much to drink, or perhaps one too many unkind words were said, or perhaps someone was just having a very bad day.
Oftentimes, no one knew exactly what started it, just that in a mere matter of moments, the place was whipped up into a frantic frenzy. At this point the smartest thing to do was to just skedaddle, but oftentimes one wasn't exactly in the best state of mind to do say.
Take, example, the fellow who's finding his head rammed through a wall. ...It's a rather thin wall, he's fine.
When he decided to visit this small bar in the Dazil City vicinity, on the border between it and the Blackmoon Forest beyond, he hadn't expected to run into a literal pirate. He'd had one too many drinks, and at that point felt like he could take on the world.
He hadn't counted on that pirate being as ferocious a fighter as she was a drinker, and now his head was through a wall and she was laughing heartily at his plight.
"Come now, lads, don't start a fight you can't finish, aye? Don't throw a punch if you can't follow up!" Layna says with a grin, resuming her seat. She leans back, propping her feet up on the table and taking a swig from the mug set on top of it.
It wasn't her drink, but the original purchaser was long gone.
"Well? Who's gonna take a swing next? There's plenty of room on the pile!" She challenges. Indeed, there was a pile of unconscious fellows who'd tried their luck and failed.
At this point, the bartender and his staff were huddling behind the counter, concerned and afraid that this situation was going to end with the place in more shambles than it had already been in before the pirate had entered.
No one knew who had started the fights, but Layna seemed to fully intend to finish them.

Iskandra's got a few drinks down herself, not enough to inhibit her reflexes or dexterity, but maybe just enough to inhibit her judgment. She sizes up the pirate and then heads over, "Pile'd look better with you on top of it." The winged girl offers in response, with a confident smirk that is almost certainly partially emboldened by drink.
"But let's make this a little more fun. Fighting with fists and furniture is boring, don't you think?" It's at that point a hand goes to the hilt of a blade, just as a way of demonstrating what she's getting at. "What do you say, eh? Miss Pirate."

"You flirtin' with me, lass?" Layna asks with a grin and a chuckle. "That's a dangerous prospect, it is."
She understands perfectly well what she meant, though Iskandra's next comment makes it clear. Layna pushes herself forward and out of the chair and looks Iskandra up and down, assessing her.
"What do I say? Well, you look like you might actually be worth a damn compared to these blaggards." She comments, cracking her knuckles. She kicks the table aside in order to clear some room for their fight before reaching behind her and drawing out her weapons - a pair of bladed gauntlets with shields on their backs.
"Here's hoping you don't disappoint me, aye?" She says with an arrogant grin. She appears to be leaving herself wide open for an attack.

There's a laugh when Layna asks if that's flirting, "Maybe if you prove to be interesting enough." She answers, and then takes a step to the side, glancing at the weapons her opponent of choice has pulled out, at the same time she draws her own blade. A one-handed sword of solid make, and she assumes a fighting stance that, to the familiar, is clearly influenced by the Lion's Heart Style. Not identical, however.
This proves to be the case when Iskandra moves, her fighting style is somewhat rough and unrefined, but well-practiced and takes advantage of her speed, a rapid rush forward to attempt to get a reasonable hit in and seize the initiative.

Layna watches Iskandra carefully. A one-handed sword, was it...? Interesting. She notes Iskandra's speed and her technique as she moves in for a swing...
...And takes the hit, full on. There's a long streak of red across Layna's front, where Iskandra found her target. Layna's forced back a few steps, and though she's still grinning, there's a hint of a wince.
"Aye. Not bad, not bad..." She comments with a nod. She rests her foot on top of the chair she had been sitting...and kicks it up and at Iskandra as a distraction before rushing in, aiming for her side with one of her blades.

Iskandra kicks the chair aside and ducks below the blades, though they do chip into one of her wings, causing some blood to spill. There's a swift followup move, as she tries to get past her opponent, her blade flowing with some kind of cold energy as she tries to dig it into Layna's waist in passing, before turning around and jumping backwards, "Not bad from you either, but I'm sure you can do better."

Layna's eyes track Iskandra as she ducks below her bladed fist, and as she tries to rush past her. Now that she's experienced Iskandra's strength personally, she decides it's a good idea to try and avoid her blade...particularly with that strange energy flowing off it.
She dodges to the side but the blade still manages to nick her. She can feel a strange chill run through her body from where the blade made contact.
...That was something to be mindful of in the future.
"I'm just warming up, lass." Layna responds with a grin and rushes after her. If her injuries are slowing her down, it's not enough to notice as she lunges forward. It's a simple straight punch with a bladed gauntlet, but it's no less dangerous for it.

"Well, I'm gonna have to go do something about that." Iskandra answers as she leaps back, the tip of the blade connecting, but not managing to get deep before the Hellion is out of the way. She increases her distance some before flinging a flask containing a clear liquid towards Layna, as it shatters, the liquid immediately turns into a thin vapour that induces lethargy, "How about this?"

When Iskandra backs away from Layna, the pirate rushes after her. She sees the bottle come out and raises her shields to defend against it...but this turns out to play right into Iskandra's hands. The liquid disperses into a vapor, and some shards even manage to get through to land a cut on her face, allowing the vapor to seep in even more effectively.
Layna stumbles backward.
"Well, well...you had something up your sleeve..." Layna comments. She doesn't seem to be making a negative comment about her tactics. After all, she was the last person who could talk when it came to that kind of tactic.
For a moment, she appears to be muttering something under her breath. Was it a curse? And insult? The truth reveals itself shortly after as a strong wind kicks up, forming into blades that go flying toward Iskandra.
"As it happens...so do I!" Layna shouts, her words slightly slurred. It was hard to tell if it was from all drinks or the flask.

Iskandra leaps up, using her wings to carry her above the air blades and giving her an oppportunity to close back in, "Magic huh, you sure you want to do that?" She asks, right before rushing in with a flurry of strikes, targeting various parts of Layna's upper body in an attempt to overwhelm her ability to defend herself. "I mean, all's fair in love and war, and this is close enough to at least one of those." She winks, "I just wouldn't recommend it."

The blades continue in their path, putting holes in the wall behind where Iskandra had been just previously and dissipating upon impact. Fortunately, most of this place's clientele had cleared out once it was clear that these two were getting serious, except for the pile of unconscious fellows in one corner, so there wasn't any risk of it taking off anyone's heads.
Layna frowns slightly, but doesn't have an opportunity to make a comment before Iskandra is upon her again with a flurry of strikes. Layna interlocks her shields to defend herself, but Iskandra's fierce assault keeps finding openings in her guard.
Layna's forced to backpedal as Iskandra's closing in...but her grin is wide. Iskandra has the upper hand here, but Layna doesn't seem to be enjoying the fight any less for that.
"You know, some folks'd say..." Layna thrusts her shield's forward suddenly, attempting to forceh Iskandra away to give herself some breathing space, while still allowing her to maintain her guard.
"...That there's no real difference between the two." She finishes with a grin.

"I've heard that said before." Iskandra takes a good hit from the shield this time, forced back and wincing a little at it, that just makes her grin more. "Now that's what I'm looking for. More of that." She grins, and then moves back some more, getting out another flask containing some kind of liquid, a different kind this time. "Please, bring it. I'm looking forward to it." The flask is thrown towards Layna.

Layna keeps the shields interlocked for a moment...until she sees a flask flying toward her. Remembering what happened last time, Layna sidesteps the flask...but rather than dispersing into vapor, this time it splashes a potent acid alongside the sharp glass.
Layna hisses slightly as some of it gets on her, backpedaling away from where it's eating into - and through - the floorboards.
"Gotta say, that's pretty impressive...but if you're asking for it, how can I say no?" With a wild grin Layna rushes forward. She seems to be going for a punch...
But at the last second she'll drop low, attempting to sweep Iskandra off her feet with a low-kick. If this is successful, Layna will follow up by interlocking her shields once more and bringing them down roughly in a double axe-handle strike to send her to the ground.
If it doesn't succeed, though, she might be left open for attack...

But Layna does succeed, throwing Iskandra to the ground with the combined kick and shield bash, and on the ground the winged girl smirks, "Now you're being forward, don't you think?" She asks with a laugh, and doesn't quite get up, instead she picks out another flask, and throws it at Layna from down below, "Drink up, though." That's not a drink.

"Well, I am a pirate, lass. That's what I do, aye?" Layna replies with a wink. She is surprised that Iskandra doesn't try and get to her feet right away. Instead, Layna finds another bottle tossed her way.
Layna knows better than to try and drink it and moves out of the way. She seems safe for a moment, but it arcs up...
up...
up... And then
down,
landing right on Layna's head and splashing her with the liquid inside. Her hat takes the brunt of it, but more than enough of it splashes on Layna herself.
At this point, Iskandra's array of perilous potions and dangerous draughts is starting to wear on Layna, and it's obvious in the way she moves. Still, though...
She didn't want this fight to end just yet. She murmurs a quick incantation, then grins - her grin still as manic and wild as ever even though her stance is starting to look a bit haggard.
"But, aye, I apologize for my behavior. Why don't I...help you to your feet?" She asks.
Wind begins welling up beneath Iskandra before bursting upwards. If doesn't move quickly enough, it might carry her right into the ceiling.

And thus the winged girl tries to roll to the side, but the wings really don't help with that and she ends up smacked right into the ceiling. Wincing as she is wracked with pain. When she lands, she gets out another flask, "This isn't over yet." She assures Layna with a smirk, and then she chugs down the contents of the flash, wiping aside the remnants and putting the empty flask aside. "And you're a pirate, eh? Well as you may have noticed, I'm an alchemist."

Layna grins as Iskandra can still manage to get to her feet, even after what she just went through.
"An alchemist, aye?" Layna comments, nodding in approval.
"Good, good. I'm not ready for this to end yet! I haven't had a fight push me this far in ages!" She says, and then laughs. As she speaks, a subtle green glow begins to appear around Layna, and the wind begins to pick up..
"Show me everything you've got, Miss Alchemist!" And then, Layna charges. Right as she's about to reach Iskandra, though...
She disappears.
Behind Iskandra the wind howls as Layna reappears, charging at her while laughing with an arm extended, attempting to clothesline her. If she makes contact she'll force her arm forward, attempting to send her flying into the opposite wall.
If it doesn't, Layna's momentum would probably force her to continue forward...which may or may not prove beneficial.

The green glow is noticed swiftly enough, and Iskandra takes a good eye on it, and the wind tips her off to Layna's new location. The clothesline is responded to in the most efficient manner possible, swiftly moving aside. That's easier said than done, of course, but the alchemist is quite fast and makes it work. She doesn't wait to take advantage either, rushing from behind to move in and strike while the pirate is still recovering from that attack, "Let's see if you'll make me."

Layna tears through the bar recklessly, mugs and tables and chairs being sent flying. Unfortunately, notably not sent flying in this carnage was Iskandra, who'd managed to completely dodge out of the way. Layna's still going pretty quickly, even though she tries to force herself to a stop, so it's difficult to get a hit on her...but Iskandra does succeed, and now there's a line of red down Layna's back, as well.
The wind quiets down as Layna comes to a stop, but there's still a subtle glow around her. Layna charges Iskandra again but a gust suddenly shifts her diagonally toward the alchemist's sword arm and she once more bashes forward with her shields interlocked.

Iskandra is thrown back as a result, and she lands on the wall, a rough landing to be sure. She smirks, though. "You're almost there." She promises with an amused smirk, then rushes forwards, moving swiftly to try to find a chink in that defensive posturing, caring more for landing a solid blow than exactly how hard she can hit. "You think you're done yet, or are you gonna insist?"

Iskandra's blade seeks true. It's thrusted forward, buried into Layna's shoulder before she has a chance to guard against it. Layna's head hangs low for a moment, but one can still see that wide grin...and a subtle green glint in her eye.
She moves quickly, attempting to grab onto Iskandra's arms before she can retreat, even though the action causes her blade to tear at her flesh.
"Hah! You think I'm done? I've still got some fight left in me!" She says. It takes some effort, but with a bit of help from a powerful gust of wind she leans back, and with a roar attempts to hurl Iskandra right through the wall behind her in one last desperate move.

Alas, Iskandra saw that coming, and while she wasn't sure she could respond in time, and focused on her inner strength to ensure she could last even in a worst case scenario, she managed to get the best case and be completely out of the way by the time that hits. She gets out another flask and flings it towards Layna as she tries to maintain some distance. "You're gonna need to do better than that."

Layna's gambit failed, and she found herself spent. She attempts to dodge as Iskandra throws one last flask at her, but it was traveling too quickly in her current state. It collides with her and Layna stumbles backwards, collapsing in the wreckage of a table.
She lies there for a moment, completely still, before she stirs...and bursts into hearty laughter.
"Ahaha...whew." She says, forcing herself into a sitting position with one arm.
"...I think I'm spent. Great fight there, lass... Great fight. I feel like I could keep fighting you for hours...but my legs don't seem to feel the same way." She comments, chuckling.
Not to mention the fact that one of her arms was drooping down uselessly.

"It was a good fight." Iskandra agrees, approaching the captain with a smirk, "So, the pile or my bed? Where shall I place you?" She glances aside to the pile of unconscious bodies that was in the backdrop of the fight. "Your choice. Don't make it lightly." There's a wink, and then she reaches out for another flask, and hands it to Layna, "Drink up. This one's actually good for you."

"Well, I'd say the pile is significantly less comfortable, aye?" Layna comments with a grin. She doesn't even question the possibility that the flask Iskandra hands her might be a trick. She takes it and swigs the contents all the way down.
"You know, it's a shame you weren't here for the Tournament of Arms. You could've given even the Death Waitress a run for her money, I'd wager."
Layna had fought in the tournament herself, under the name 'Captain Aifread'. She had done better than she expected, though she never made it to the finals.
She then hands the empty flask back to Iskandra.
"So, what's your name? Don't feel right to call you 'lass' when you've beaten me in a fight. Mine's Layna. Captain Layna Manydays, of the Ruby Empress."

"That's what I thought." Good thing the flask isn't a trick, it's a healing draught of some variety. Might not heal all of Layna's wounds, but it should help some. Iskandra reaches out to pick up Layna, clearly intent on following through on that particular tangent. "Maybe. I've got a lot to learn still." There's a pause, and then, "Iskandra Grendorre, no titles or affiliations."

Layna can feel the effects soaking into her body already. It alleviates the pain somewhat and makes it a little easier to move, but she's still probably going to be sore for a while after that fight.
She grins and reaches out toward Iskandra, grabbing on and shifting her weight to make moving a little easier on her.
"Aye, don't we all? Only a dead man's got nothing left to learn, I say!" Layna replies, then nods.
"Aye. Yours is a name I'll not soon forget, Iskandra. I can promise you that!"
