(cw: suicidal ideation, depression, violence)

oh my gosh

It /just/ happened. Lunata frantically shoves the platter of hors d'ouevres to a table and swiftly backpedals to the outer halls of Macalania Temple. The guests are terrified. A temple attendant just fainted. Their shocked responses are still ringing in her head. She hears the sound of a wineglass shattering. The awful ambience of gossip and murmurs. Is it true? What could this mean? And that Trommel Guado--

... the Guado take care of Guado affairs.

what was that??

How did this /happen/?

"M-Miss Lunata! We needsh your help with ze risotto--" The familiar sight of a light blue hypello sous chef, Tobi, who she's known for two months. She remembers him being happy to receive his fancy, double-breasted chef coat. He picked it out with her. He likes making clam chowder. And /now/--

Gunfire. Explosions. The unmistakable whistling noise of Gear verniers outside. A loud crash. Lunata tucks herself to him and frantically whispers, "F-forget about the risotto, Tobi. Just take cover. Turn off all the burners. Tell everyone to hide, okay?"

Tobi, who's now cowering and whimpering. Poor thing hasn't seen a single battle. With another usher, he goes; Lunata sees the young waitress of the Starfall Saloon running away in his image. Her mouth is extremely dry. It's a trick. She doesn't hydrate. She's a husk.

what do i do
what do i DO

Her chest is burning. It's a trick. She has no beating heart. She grabs hold of it anyway and dares look to the antechamber door. The door to the Cloister of the Fayth. She grabs hold of her hair.

do the right thing

The right thing. ... Tell on Maester Seymour. Warn the summoner and her Guardians. Do something. Anything. Find Jay and Shalune. Find the Wolves. Find /anyone/. Go fight Odessa. Go fight whoever showed up here too. Pretty sure that loud awful screech was Sin outside. Pretty sure Jay's out there fighting them already. She's taking on Sin and Odessa and the Veruni and the Guard in a no holds barred wrestling steel cage match and probably someone /else/ is revealing that they betrayed her. Again. Double again. Double triple agent.

someone betrayed her...
... just like me

"Oh," Lunata dryly whispers. The mood pendulum swings. Where does that leave her? If she does that? Crawl back to everyone? Get told 'I told you so'? Go back to running out of time. Watching that clock tick. Back to having no leads on the curse. Back to eternal damnation.

back to not being able to DIE
why is dying so hard
i didn't want to hurt anyone
i just wanted to...

Her mind is the awful noise of a lost signal. An untuned radio. Her hands drop as her pupils shrink. A realisation is barreling headways at her.

is this really me
am i going to
really let someone else die??

Her mind is playing tricks. She's feeling a heart beat so loud it's pulsating in her eardrums. There should be no pulse. Her mind still can't form a coherent answer. The answer really should be blindingly obvious to her. Just say 'no'. Do the right thing. Just say 'no'. Do the right thing. Jay would say 'no'. Do the right thing. Jay wouldn't let anyone die on her watch. Jay's a hero--

A hero.

is that...
is that really who i am

Her shoulders slump further. The door gets real blurry. Her vision is failing her. Vision is a trick too. She has no working eyes. An orchestra of gunfire plays cacophonously down the hall. Then several Odessa soldiers turn the corner. "Over there!"

if i'm not a hero
if i can't do heroic things
then am i

"Hands up! Don't try anything funny!" shouts one soldier. He's probably no older than twenty. Fresh faced. Probably high on Vinsfeld's words, Lunata idly thinks. She doesn't move. No hands up. Nothing. He inches closer, breaking echelon with his comrades.

...
then...
am i
am i... the villain?

A gunshot. Lunata feels a flare of pain as her jacket sleeve explodes open. Her blood feels achingly hot. Black, viscous Stuff comes out. It's another trick. There's no blood. No blood in her. People would have blood.

i'm ... not even a person

She ragdolls for a moment, dancing like a macabre marionette as automatic fire sinks into her. Click click. The magazine is empty. But she's still /standing/.

"W-what... what is she?? A Monster...?"

... i'm a monster ...?
monsters are...

She turns to face the soldier. Towards the soldier, ceding ground, intimidated. Frightened. His horrified countenance on her grey pupils. Narrow. Eyebrows creasing. A look of vehement anger flashes over her--

Tobi cowers underneath his stove and holds his hands tight over his ears, trying to block the screams from the hallway.

"Oh Yevon... please keep us sshafe, zee..."

monsters...
monsters are...
villains
aren't they...?
