  • Log: We'll Do It
  • Cast: Sable Aomori, Vivace Mori
  • Where: A square in Armlock City, Energy Nede
  • Date: May 09, 2024
  • Summary: Sable, waiting for her father in Armlock, decides to finally contact Vivace, and they meet up to talk. Battle and resolutions ensue.

<Pose Tracker> Sable Aomori has posed.

Sable Aomori has had a lot on her mind lately. But now she's come to Armlock, to see her father--but he's not going to be able to get away from his research until later. So instead, she thought of things to do in Armlock City, and thought of--

Someone she wanted to talk to.

>i'm in armlock city. if you're also in armlock city i'd like to meet with you.

However the conversation went from there, Sable is now seated at the bottom of a hill, at a bench in front of a fountain. She's in her usual black attire, a fur-collar jacket and a black skirt with her blue sneakers.

She's looking at a weapon shop across the way, and her Cubone is out with her, a small orange creature with a skull for a helmet.

"...Yes," she says. "Weapons can be important..."

"Bone," Eno the Cubone agrees.

"But handmade is best."

"Cubone."

She waits; it's morning, and a clear day. The square bustles only a bit.

<Pose Tracker> Vivace Mori has posed.

Vivace had been travelling back to Armlock for unrelated reasons - if she was going to be travelling to these legendary, secret training grounds, she was going to be as prepared as possible before she did it.

That meant a trip to Celadon (now complete) and, much as she stayed away from home most of the time, Armlock (in progress).

Any excuse to have something to do in Armlock was a plus. She did not get along with her parent all that well, especially these days, so while she loved them she was absolutely going to seize on Something To Do as opposed to hanging out at home. So she didn't even think twice.

> I've got some free time
> pick your spot

Which is why Vivace is approaching, now. It's getting warmer; she's traded out her windbreaker for a lighter button-up shirt, worn open over her cropped shirt. Now it's the lower layer that has the sports branding on it. Her jeans are still fashionably worn and distressed (as opposed to unfashionably ripped and shredded).

And she's being accompanied by a Pokemon, of course. Today it is her Alolan Sandshrew, who is scurrying after her, as Vivace tends to walk quickly for someone of her relatively short height.

"Yo," she says, an all-purpose greeting. Sandshrew lets out a "San!" and eyes the Cubone like she was trying to figure out everything about them all in one go. One of her icy ears flicks.

<Pose Tracker> Sable Aomori has posed.

Sable picked this spot, the one by the fountain at the bottom of the hill, surrounded by shops. There are places to hang out, places to eat, and also the bench to just talk at instead of going anywhere. Sable is pretty sure she has covered her bases.

She should stop wearing the fur-collared jacket when it gets warm out, but she hasn't started doing that yet.

For now though, Sable watches Vivace approach; Sable is extremely tall, but she's also seated at the moment. Or at least, she was seated, before Vivace greets her. Then Sable stands up, because it's polite. "Hello," she says. She looks at the Alolan Sandshrew and tilts her head. "Hello," she says to Sandshrew too.

Cubone regards Sandshrew with narrowed eyes--and then opens them wider, cheering, "Bone!"

It would appear that he approves. Eno is a strong Pokemon, until recently too strong for Sable to control, and he exudes that kind of aura.

"...I'm glad you could meet me," Sable says. "I have a lot of time before tonight. So..."

Pause. "I was originally going to ask you about Steel-types," she says, "Because my Prinplup is going to evolve into one eventually. But then I remembered that I heard you were at the briefing about the Fields, too..."

"You're going, right? I want to go, too."

<Pose Tracker> Vivace Mori has posed.

It's a good spot. Vivace spent a lot of time here before she left Armlock and it's still one of her more common spots to drop back in, simply because it *does* have nearly everything right around it.

Sandshrew is a lot more... directly aggressive than a lot of Vivace's Pokemon. "San san!" she replies, putting up her forepaws in imitation of a boxing stance - but then dropping them down again. You could swear she's grinning.

But she does want to challenge Eno, sometime.

Vivace is not tall - she's maybe five two, five three. So she has to look quite a ways up at Sable, which irritates her; she hates being chest-high to other people, and stands up straighter as if to counteract this. (It doesn't work very well. She does it anyway, probably without realizing she's doing it.)

"I remember," she says. "Ulpi. Though wasn't he a Piplup last time we talked?" Back with Mystere, or at least around Mystere. "Sounds like he's doing pretty well for himself."

But Sable brings up the meeting... "Yeah, I was. Mayor Nall didn't like it, but who cares?" Vivace doesn't! She considers Sable for a few moments... "You think you're ready for that?" It's a little challenging, maybe, but it's an actual question. She doesn't know if Sable is. She doesn't know her that well.

<Pose Tracker> Sable Aomori has posed.

Cubone notices Sandshrew's aggression, and spins his bone club in response to that boxing stance. "Cubone!" He agrees, "Bone!"

Sable glances down at them, and gets the message. Maybe that can be arranged...

Sable is frankly not good enough at parsing people's emotions to realize that Vivace is irritated looking up at her 5'10" self. However, she gets lucky; Sable offers Vivace a seat with a gesture, if they want to sit down

"Ulpi!" She agrees with a smile, pleased that her precious partner is remembered. "He was," she says. "He evolved fighting a demon. One of the Ten Wise Men's minions. ...Not alone," she clarifies. "But he did his best. He's getting a lot stronger."

Mayor Nall... Hmm. "I see. I wonder why?" Then, Vivace considers her, and Sable considers back. There's a few moments' silence.

"Whether I'm ready or not," Sable says, "I'm going. It's too important. I won't look away." Pause. "...But I've been battling a lot. I'm ready to try. I have a team I've put together to cover each other's needs, and I have an Onix in case we face anything particularly large."

"I'm confident in their defenses. ...But I want to go with a team of people, too."

<Pose Tracker> Vivace Mori has posed.

Vivace does indeed sit down. Her Sandshrew does too, clambering up to hang off the back of Vivace's seat - she likes to dangle. Vivace doesn't know why. She assumed she'd be too heavy to do it, really.

"A demon, huh...?" Vivace hasn't fought any demons, but she's seen some of the Wise Men's creatures, and she's seen other things in Filgaia. Solaris, but not only Solaris; she's been plenty of other places too, and some of them have monsters...

"I know why." Vivace's tone has some irritation in it. "And if you go, too, he won't like that either, but it doesn't matter. It's more important than him," she agrees, however indirectly, with Sable.

A team, an Onix. "Takes a little more than a team with a big anchor," Vivace says, thoughtfully this time. "But it sounds like you've at least been thinking about it, which is more than some people do." She's... approving, probably. It's sometimes hard to tell with Vivace.

"And you have good instincts, too, because the Professor told us we'd probably be best off going in groups." Vivace considers that for a few moments, then: "So is that an invitation? Because honestly, I'd like to see more people who weren't Visitors thinking about it."

<Pose Tracker> Sable Aomori has posed.

Sable sits, too. This should make it easier to talk, anyway. Cubone stays on the ground in the meantime, tilting his head at the way Sandshrew hangs off the seat. But he has no complaints.

"Yes. At Mount Moon. ...It's after moon stones, for some reason. We drove it off..."

But Vivace knows why, though Sable still doesn't. She blinks once. "...Mom says the government won't do enough on its own," she says, but she sounds pained when she says it, a slight intonation and crinkling of her eyes. "...Either way. It's important."

Vivace is thoughtful, and Sable nods. "I agree," she says. Either there's more she wants to prepare for--or she thinks her team has more than she's said so far. It's hard to tell what Vivace thinks for Sable, but, "The Pewter Gym helped me think a lot about defenses. And I've been to Filgaia, and seen some of what happens there."

Good instincts! "Yes," Sable says. The question gets a simple nod, quickly. "You seemed confident in your team, and you're interested in going. It's a good start."

She pauses. "...I'd like to see that too," she reflects. "But a lot of our people are scared. They don't know how to deal with things like this..."

"But seeing the Visitors fight made me realize that I won't look away, either. This is our world. It's... not right, to leave it to just them. Even if we are supposed to be welcoming."

<Pose Tracker> Vivace Mori has posed.

Mount Moon. "I heard about that," Vivace admits. "When I went there, though, it wasn't around. I got a Moon Stone, but I haven't had any use for it... still, if they're collecting them, maybe they'll try to pick on me."

She doesn't sound concerned about it. Like it's part of her plan.

"You've been to Filgaia? Well, I guess you must have." Vivace drums her fingers on her knee, which is a bad habit she knows she should break. "And you've got at least one badge, so it's not like you're incompetent or anything."

Vivace debates how much she should share. She comes to a conclusion eventually. "Yeah, they're scared. A lot of people are afraid to do anything. Leave it to the Visitors, they'll handle it." She scowls. "I hate that. We're not allowed to do things, because 'that's not how it's done'. But the Visitors are, because they don't fit in anyway. There's no spot for them."

"Well I'm tired of being put into a little spot. It's not right to leave it to them and it's not right to just pretend everything's the same as it was last year, or last decade, or last century. Because it's not."

Vivace is starting to get a bit worked up. "That's what Mayor Nall doesn't like, you know. He wants things to be the same as before the Visitors came. He doesn't think any of us should want to do anything different than his generation did." She hits her knee a bit harder, with a fist. "That's why the government won't do stuff. Well, if they won't, I will, and I guess you will."

Vivace considers a moment longer, then: "Before I say yes, I want to battle you, though. A real challenge. I want to see what you can do."

<Pose Tracker> Sable Aomori has posed.

"I see." Maybe they'll pick on Vivace. Sable nods. "When we fought it," she says, "It was pretty strong... it took a group of us to drive it off. But then, it was distant, too. If you could trap it, maybe..."

 ell. That's different.

Sable nods. "I have." Pause. Not incompetent or anything. She tilts her head. "Did you expect that?" she wonders.

But, Vivace shares in the end, and Sable listens. "...So you want to change things, too," she reflects. "But there's a lot of different ways to change the world..."

"Yes," Sable agrees. "That's what I decided, too. That I ha to put my Gym challenge on hold, to do this instead. To help."

He wants... Sable isn't disturbed by someone getting worked up as a rule, so she jus listens, instead. "My Mom thinks like that too."

But--there it is. Sable blinks once, and then nods.

"Okay," she says. "That's the best way to understand each other."

There's an open square right here," she says. "Do you want to battle now?"

<Pose Tracker> Vivace Mori has posed.

'Did you expect that?'

"I didn't know," Vivace says, with a shrug. "I've only seen you fight once, at Silph Co. And I was a little busy to pay as much attention as I'd like. You didn't lose, though, so I knew you know something. Some people only keep Pokemon for friends or company. Which is fine, if that's all they want out of it, but they shouldn't pretend they're a combat trainer if they're not."

But her mom thinks like that too? "Lucky," Vivace grumbles, under her breath. She's quiet. She's not *that* quiet.

She covers it up by the offer being accepted. Vivace slides off her seat and onto her feet, her Sandshrew clambering up onto the back before dropping down on the just-abandoned seat, and from there to the ground.

"Wouldn't be the first time I've fought here," Vivace agrees. "So come on. Show me what you want. Sandshrew, you can be up first."

"San!" Sandshrew trills happily, following Vivace to a more open area and taking a spot in front of Vivace. She waves her forepaws again, back in that 'boxing' stance and ready to take on... well, whoever, but she's clearly hoping for Eno.

Vivace adds, "Normally my Pokemon work in pairs," she says. "But we're doing this friendly, and I won't be using everybody, anyway. So this time I won't."

"Oh," Sable says. "That makes sense." She nods. "I know someone who was like that, but is trying to get more serious. And my dad is a researcher, not a battler." She has to talk it out to really 'get' it, but it makes sense to her once she does.

Sable nods. "We disagree about what to do about it, I think..." Her and her mother, that is.

She did hear that.

Vivace has fought here before, so it's definitely okay. Sable nods. "I will," she says.

Sable follows along, and Eno does, too. With Sandshrew in that boxing stance, Sable considers Eno, who looks up at her and hefts his bone club. "Bone!" he says.

"Okay," she says. "I know you want to fight. That's fine."

"Pairs... Okay. This time we'll do single, but I'm willing to try pairs too."

Then she directs Eno forward. "Your Sandshrew... Eno. Rely on your Ground-type moves first. Stomping Tantrum!"

Eno swings its bone lft, then right--thn spins it, slamming it into the earth and then hopping up to stomp with it.

The earth shakes underneath Sandshrew, unruly and rocking!

"I use a lot of TMs, in my battling style. But sometimes the Pokemon's natural moves are what's best."

<Pose Tracker> Vivace Mori has posed.

Any battle in Armlock is going to get some interest from passersby, especially when one of the participants is Vivace, who is known here. It's two teenagers having a proper Pokemon match, not some kind of deadly attack, so it's reasonably safe, but they still keep an appropriate distance, just in case.

Vivace completely ignores the few people who have decided to watch. Now she's in her element. She rolls her neck, then pops her knuckles. "All right. Pairs are a whole different thing, and it's what *I* like... but it does take a bit of practice. We train as a team, and we fight as a team!" For Vivace, who is a baseball player, it's the most natural thing in the world.

So does single battling, which Vivace is a little out of practice with, honestly; all her recent matches have been the pairs that she likes, or the mad scrambles against real foes, not 'proper' matches.

Eno *slams* down, then stomps, hard enough to shake the earth! Vivace spreads her legs slightly and adopts a stable stance, but Sandshrew takes the worst of it, tossed about by the sudden eruption of rock and earth from beneath -

"C'mon, Sandshrew! You're better than that. Open 'em up with an Ice Punch!"

Sandshrew finally lands from where she's been tossed with a thump. She's dazed, but still up - and her 'boxing' pose was not for show, as she bounds forward, hop hop hop, before delivering a short-armed punch with a sudden *surge* of icy power behind it!

Sable glances at the audience as they come up, but otherwise doesn't acknowledge them much--just enough to realize that they're there. Vivace is clearly into the battle, and Sable focuses on the same.

"I see," Sable says of pairs. "I should practice it, then..."

But they're battling. Eno the Cubone rocks the very earth, and Sable doesn't seem to try hard not to fall--she simply doesn't fall. "While she's recovering," Sable says, "Use Stealth Rock!"

Cubone swings his club, whirls, and slams it into the ground. Spikes erupt from the earth!

They linger.

But Sandshrew, recovering, moves to strike. "Counter with a Fire Punch!" she calls.

But while Cubone swings his bone, suddenly covered in flames--Sandshrew gets past his guard, and slams him backward, the ice riming his chest as he falls to the ground again. "Bone..."

It's his turn to be dazed for a moment, leaning on his bone before he adops a ready stance.

"...Right, Eno. Don't give up."

"Bone!" He's still shivering some, though.

"I think so," Vivace says, about practicing it. But that's always been her favourite, and her Erikodus really appreciates the teamwork... as does her Niquia.

Sandshrew takes the Fire Punch, lunging into it as if she was going to start up an Ice Spinner at close range, and though it may not have been quite as dead-on as the Ice Punch it was bad enough...

...especially because an Alolan Sandshrew does *not* like fire. Ice over steel... it's not a fun combination. Vivace is very used to half her opponents continually trying to burn her Pokemon, but even so.

"Sandshrew, return!" Vivace isn't going to leave her in there to get beaten up more - she already looks pretty badly off, and this is not going to make her happy later, when she has to deal with Eno again. But that's fine, Vivace has a second plan. "Tinkatuff, you're up!"

Vivace tosses her Pokeball underhand, and it deploys - to the side of the Cubone, outside of the visible rocks. Vivace has practiced putting her Pokeballs exactly where she wants them, and it wasn't a hard toss. She's done more difficult ones, in Filgaia...

But out of this one comes a Tinkatuff, who lets out a joyous "Tink!" before throwing herself at Eno! She doesn't even use her hammer at first, simply grabbing and rolling with him before trying to throw him upward, retrieve her hammer...

...and then smash as hard as she can. Home run!

If Sable had been there to see those two in action, she'd get it immediately.

Sable doesn't have a Fire-type on her team yet, but Cubone's ability to learn a variety of elemental moves comes in handy. As Sandshrw returns, Cubone lifts up his bone again in salute, and Sable nods.

Outside the rocks... Sable turns towards the new Tinkatuff. There is a new plan. Eno turns, too. "Cube!" he declares, and then Tinkatuff hurl herself at him. While Eno moves to get out of the way, he can't in time--and Tinkatuff's efforts pay off. Eno is hurled into the air, and sails away from the battlefield...

"Eno, return," Sable says, and extends her hand with the pokeball, recalling him before he hits the ground again. "...That's a cool Pokemon," she says of Tinkatuff. "That's the first time Eno's lost..."

She nods. "You're strong." She is suddenly holding another Pokeball. "I think... Yes."

"Varan, go." A Pikachu emerges from the next Pokeball as it springs open. The little yellow rodent cheers, "Pika!"

He seeems like a Jolly fellow pretty quickly--but h leans down onto all fours in a battle stance quickly. "Chuuuu--!"

"Use Thunderbolt to slow it down!"

"Piiikaaaaaa--"

Lightning crackles off the Pokemon as it launches towards Tinkatuff in roiling bolts!

<Pose Tracker> Vivace Mori has posed.

Lightning blasts downward, and Tinkatuff - having just delivered her powerful swing - is a relatively easy target for it. The roiling bolts hit around her, and her hammer, which shocks her enough into dropping it with a yelped "Tuff!" She wobbles around, falling on her rear -

"Tinkatuff, return!"

Vivace doesn't look happy about that one. Tinkatuff hasn't been doing very well lately, and while Vivace likes all her Pokemon, not every Pokemon she's ever captured gets to come along on her main squad. It's like any sports team - some people end up on reserves.

Vivace's hand hovers over a different ball - a Heavy Ball, for a moment, and then the more innocent-looking Quick Ball next to it. But she eventually settles on neither. "I've seen enough," she says. "You're good enough. Maybe if I sent out one of the heavy hitters I could win, but that's not the point here, is it? And neither of us used our favourites."

She doesn't even mean Erikodus. Even Gholdengo - something that a lot of Trainers don't have a good answer to, especially if they don't have the experience. Or Prinplup, who she started with. She wants to win. But -

- that's not her goal today. "Good enough for me. I'd be happy to make a team with you. I know someone else who might be interested, too, and he's good enough to make it." Vivace steps forward, sticking out her hand to shake.

"But next time, we have the *whole* match."

<Pose Tracker> Sable Aomori has posed.

Tinkatuff is Returned, and Sable tilts her head for a moment; that definitely did hit hard, but not, Sable thought, hard enough to knock out the other Pokemon yet. She wonders what it is that makes Vivace look unhappy.

Sable watches her settle on... neither, and answer her instead. "Oh," Sable answers, and then nods. "...Yes. I used Eno because he really wanted to battle... and Varan to answer Tinkatuff."

But she's good enough, Vivace has declared, and Sable is pleased at that much. She approaches the rest of the way, and moves to shake Vivace's hand. Her handshake is firm but not crushing; she's very serious about it, as she is about most things.

"Yes," Sable agrees. "That makes three... At least that many should be good. A pause. "I'm looking forward to it."

"And..."

She nods. "I'll practice Doubles. I want to see your preferred type of battling."

<Pose Tracker> Vivace Mori has posed.

Vivace's grip is pretty hard - but then again, she's very assertive and it's not really a surprise that she pushes that into her handshake, too.

"Good choices," she agrees. "I use all-Steel, because I'm going to be a Gym Leader someday." She says it so matter-of-factly. "It's got weaknesses most teams don't... but strengths, too. I just need to apply them. We can definitely try a double match sometime."

Vivace actually smiles, something that she does relatively little - but Sable gets it today. "It's Dirk. He's a little weird, but he's good at what he does. We've fought together a couple times... Team Rocket, and also when 'Solaris' - that's a Visitor group - attacked a city on Filgaia."

THAT gets her smile to go away. "Just... you know this is serious, right? People could die. Not just go to the hospital. They were trying..." She trails off, then: "I just want to make sure you know what you're getting into, with these Fields, and the Wise Men."

<Pose Tracker> Sable Aomori has posed.

Sable takes people at what they say and do, most of the time.

"Thank you." For 'good choices'. Then, all steel, and Sable is thoughtful. "Oh, I see. It's important, to have a goal." She nods, firmly. She fully believes that one day Vivace will be a Gym Leader. And, "Yes. Type matchups help... but good strategy and well-trained Pokeemon are more important."

Vivace smiles! Sable smiles back. It's a small expression, easy to miss but not so rare. "Dirk," she responds. "I like Dirk. He's cool..." Then, she nods. Attacking a city on Filgaia--that gets a very serious look out of Sable.

It's serious.

Sable's gaze is rock-hard when she regards Vivace. "I know," she says. "Everybody says it's dangerous... Mom thinks I should leave it to her, and the adults." She shakes her head. "I won't. I saw war, on Filgaia. I know the Ten Wise Men want to rule or destroy us."

"...I'm serious, too. I told Mom that... and I'll say it to anybody who asks."

<Pose Tracker> Vivace Mori has posed.

Vivace is glad she won't have to make introductions, if Sable already knows Dirk. "Yeah. ...he's determined," Vivace says. "Works hard." These are positive things to her and she thinks better of Dirk for them... they've fought together enough there's a connection there.

"The adults won't do it." Vivace scowls, again. "Or not fast enough. They'll take time, deciding what they can do, what's 'appropriate' to do, and we'll lose before we start. Maybe some will, but not everybody. Or, they'll leave it to the Visitors."

"So I'm glad it's not just me. You're not a wimp," Vivace decides. From her, it's high praise.

<Pose Tracker> Sable Aomori has posed.

Determined, and works hard. Those are good qualities! "Then I'll rely on him, too." ...Sable does think he's cool, but this is a different matter.

Vivace scowls, and Sable looks a little more distant still. "...Yes," she says. "Though... Some adults would." She shakes her head. "Team Rocket would. But I don't like their way. Their way is just going to make people sad. I want to find... a better way."

She smiles back. "Thank you," Sable says. "You too."

...Well, it's not that bad a 'you too'.

<Pose Tracker> Vivace Mori has posed.

'Team Rocket would.'

"They're into changing stuff, but so they can steal." Vivace is getting heated again. "The organization's full of criminals. I'm not saying they're all evil, but I *am* saying that they only want things to be different so they can do what they want. Most of them don't even think twice about their Pokemon. They're not a team. They're servants and masters. Ugh!"

Vivace tries to settle herself, looking away for a moment and puffing out a breath. "Never mind. You weren't supporting them or anything. I've spoken to Rockets before. One of the Visitors said I sounded like one. That made me so mad...!"

Well, so much for settling down. She manages it on a second attempt.

"Look," Vivace says. "I have to pick up a few things here before I continue on. But here's my number. Call me whenever, and we can figure out when we want to do this. When we *can* do this." She pulls out her own phone, presumably to trade contact info.

<Pose Tracker> Sable Aomori has posed.

Vivace gets heated, but Sable remains as calm as ever. She doesn't really 'do' large expressions of emotions very often. She listens, instead. "...I don't like them either," Sable offers Vivace. "But if we want to change anything, we need to know who else is trying, so we can do it our way instead."

A thought. She sounds like them... Sable has guesses why that might be, but Vivace continues on before she has a chance to ponder out that far. She instead pulls out her own phone. "I need to get some equipment and go see my dad," she offers back.

"I'll call you," she says. "We'll do this."

<Pose Tracker> Vivace Mori has posed.

"Deal," Vivace says, closing her phone case and shoving it back into her pocket.

With that: "See you later," she says, as she starts to head off. She really does have some things to do befire she goes back again!
