Welcome to Scraphaven: an underground city cobbled together from ancient
technological wreckage. Every piece of architecture in this junkyard
civilization is a patchwork quilt of welded metal and active machinery. The
population is exclusively made of rabbit-like beastfolk with large ears and
tiny bodies, though some have other animal features in the mix. The tallest
of them might be half the size of the average human.

And they are a lively bunch.

Song and dance fill the streets, the diminutive locals of Scraphaven freely
playing bizarre amalgamations of musical instruments fitted with too many
buttons and levers. Mechanical automatons with mismatched bodies mill about
to their own uncanny rhythm and assist in the city's general maintenance,
while those not participating have no problem navigating the busy streets of
their home by running across wires of electric lights strung above.

If you wish to explore deeper into the junkyard ruins, your first task is
 getting past this impromptu parade.

<Pose Tracker> Xiumei Klein has posed.

Word got out to Xiumei about a mystical place. Mystical in the figurative sense. A place with rabbit-like beastfolk, occupying a city composed of scrap metal from the many calamities of Filgaia's past. And, being from a family that used to collect and sell ARMs, she had to come have a look for herself.

She is not in her Biometal's armor, today; instead, Varius and Avile float after. The vaguely oblong drones hover after, as she walks, and beside her walks a robotic dog.

Rikold pauses, sniffs the air, and then scans over the automatons that are dancing before them. A parade, in fact, filling the streets! Xiumei pauses at his side, before resting a hand on his head. "Easy, Rikold," she says.

Then, she looks over her shoulder, and back at her wife and their fast friend, Boudicca.

She smiles. "So... I feel bad interrupting their parade. The music is catchy--" It's a little weird. "But maybe we can try to find a bridge going over it, or something?"

DG: Xiumei Klein has contributed a Agility Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Critters and Constructs.
<Pose Tracker> Eleanor Klein has posed.

Eleanor Klein has been... busy, for the last day or two. She was able to send a message to her wife telepathically that she was fine and there was no need to worry but that she was entertaining an important person. And then, EARLIER:

In a flash of sparkles, Eleanor appears!

"Oh, good," Eleanor says, spotting Xiumei as she looks around. "I did so hope her aim was good. Hi, Xiu!"

NOW:

"Oh, this place is... interesting," Eleanor comments, looking to Boudicca. "Do you know any of them?" Eleannor knows that Boudicca tends to know people. She's very friendly like that. And tends to disappear...

"Well, either way," Eleanor says. "I can carry a rope over to the other side, if we like."

"Here goes!"

The music is catchy, but Eleanor overrides some of it with her dialogue as she suddenly turns into a beautiful horned owl!

She takes the rope in her talons, and begins to sail over the parade.

"Remember," Eleanor says, "You have to take hold of the rope at the right moment to make the bridge!"

DG: Eleanor Klein has used her Tool Rauru's Flight toward her party's challenge, Critters and Constructs. Stalwart!
Party shielded from some Exhaustion this round!
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Boudicca has posed.

    This marriage is HAUNTED.

    By a GHOST.

A ghost who just happened to spy Eleanor's sparkles sprinkling past and remember that she hasn't seen them in a g e s. She's been busy, ever since they excavated that Golem; Mrs. Flumpash's door kept jamming.

Here she is, now, and she's tall enough that she can see over the parade as it careens past. The way she claps along, though, Xiumei might be reasonably concerned she might just join in.

    "Yahohoy, yahohoy--!"

Her braids bounce in mid-air, lifted up by the breeze, as she jives from side to side. "Why, yes! Patch was just telling me about this marvellous party--!" Pause, "Or was that last year? It was definitely an April... Xiumei, do you have a calendar?"

Luckily, getting distracted with that gives Eleanor enough time to owl out. And -- "Oh!" Boudicca exclaims, as she pulls out a handful of leaves and scatters them over Xiumei. "There! You shall be swift enough to catch the rope, now!"

    Oh, no, not her too.

DG: Seraph Boudicca has used her Tool Breezeruffle Leaves toward her party's challenge, Critters and Constructs.

DG: The party led by Xiumei Klein has passed this challenge! The party gained 20 exploration! If anyone needs to use
party management commands, do so now. Otherwise, the next round's GM may begin the next round with +dungeon/draw.
<Pose Tracker> Xiumei Klein has posed.

Xiumei did worry about Eleanor being gone. She fretted and paced, in her way -- quiet, but intense, and that meant that she was worried. Back and forth, until then Eleanor appeared in a flash of light.

"N-Nora!" she exclaims, eyes widening. "Where--"

NOW:

"Isn't it just?" Xiumei asks. Then, she blinks. It is Avile, though, who offers her take on what is about to happen:

"She's totally about to turn into an owl."

She turns into an owl.

Xiumei watches, with a wide-eyed stare, as she flies over the parade with a rope in her talons. She looks at Boudicca, then nods. "Yes, I have my planner with me," she says. "I can get it as soon as I'm on the other side."

The leaves waft across her -- she nods, and then she reaches a hand out...

...and grasps the rope! With its help, she swings across, and lands beside Eleanor. She looks at her wife -- owl-mode, currently -- and smiles. "Well done!"

Beside her, Rikold folds his legs into his body, and hoverjets emerge. The robo-dog begins to hover across and says, loudly, "WOOF."

"Hell yeah. Good boy!" Varius says, as he and Avile float after.

DG: Eleanor Klein has drawn a new Challenge.

The collection it's working with has thinned over the years, so it's often
/re/crushing metal. ABC scrap! Or crushing rocks. Sometimes, it crushes

<Pose Tracker> Eleanor Klein has posed.

Eleanor didn't mean to worry Xiumei, but then, she didn't mean to get her Gear wrecked by a horrible young woman either. It wasn't a good day!

"Long story," Eleanor explains, "I desperately need to drink something that isn't tea before I can explain."

NOW, FOR REAL THIS TIME:

Avile is helpful. Eleanor is glad for that. Annd aparently Boudicca does know some of them.

"Thank you," Eleanor says to Boudicca, her voice warm. "That was most handy."

She beams at Xiiumei as she turns back into an elf, and then claps for Rikold. "Very good!" she agrees.

Then, she looks around. "...Hmm. Now that we're here..." There is automatic machinery. Mechanical arms dig through junk, and suddenly, Eleanor sees somehing valuable!

"oh!" she says. "A power cell! That could be very good for Rikold!"

Eleanor considers, and re-owls. "I'm not going into that machine," Eleanor clarifies, "But if you can get the cell loose I'll grab it!"

She flaps over. Helpfully.

DG: Eleanor Klein has used her Tool Rauru's Flight toward her party's challenge, Missable Item. Stalwart! Party shielded
from some Exhaustion this round!
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Boudicca has posed.

With the mortal safely across, Boudicca catches a ride on Rikold as he hovers over. It's okay; she might LOOK heavy, but she's actually light as a feather when she wants to be. "Good dog!" She exclaims, giving him a pat as she hops off.

"But that looks terribly dangerous," she exclaims, peering at the crushing machine. "If you are to get anywhere near it, you will need another enchantment!"

    Beat.

Boudicca points, and exclaims: "GET SOME LEAVES!"

She helpfully tosses some leaves on Xiumei following that statement.

The leaves are enchanted with wind magic, too, so Xiumei should be able to follow Boudicca in as the wind spirit darts closer to figure out how to grab this thing safely.

Or at least, you know, quickly.

DG: Seraph Boudicca has used her Tool Breezeruffle Leaves toward her party's challenge, Missable Item.
<Pose Tracker> Xiumei Klein has posed.

"WOOF. WOOF. BARK," Rikold says to Boudicca. His vocalizations are slightly tinny.

"Good job, Rikold," Xiumei says, patting him again on the head. He looks pleased by this; he is a big, almost hulking, black-and-silver wolf-like robot. His eyes are solid gold, with blinking digital fields.

Those eyes settle on the machinery below. Mechanical arms, digging through it; a power cell down there.

And Eleanor is floating over to it.

She has more leaves tossed on her. She accepts this, then looks at Rikold. She nods; he folds his legs up again as a jet, and she sets on him side-saddle. She follows after -- ready both to catch Boudicca or, if it proves easier, grab the power cell.

"Let's see..."

In the distance, Avile calls out, "Be careful everyone!"

DG: Xiumei Klein has used her Tool Rikold Jet toward her party's challenge, Missable Item. Quicken! Party Agility
boosted!

It is very dangerous! Eleanor waits for the others to catch up as she gets closer, and watches Rikold. Rikold is a jet!! In the end: Boudicca grabs the Item, Eleanor takes it from her in owl form, and then Xiumei is able to help extricate Boudicca from the crushes with Rikold's help.

"That went well," Eleanor says, and turns into an elf once more with a smile. She holds up the power cell.

"You're the one with the most likely way to make use of it," she admits to Xiumei, and hands it to her wife.

"But thank you all! This place is exciting, isn't it?"

DG: Seraph Boudicca has drawn a new Challenge.

A river of sand cuts through the junkyard ruins, where a mechanical lift net
has been opportunistically set up. A group of beastfolk dig their paws
against the ground in a desperate effort to keep from being pulled /into/
the flowing sand by the weight of their current catch. Some of them are
already dangling helplessly from the pulley.

They could use an assist, but it won't be so simple for even someone taller
and stronger to pull it up!

If you manage it they will almost certainly be grateful enough to share some
of the materials with you, and if nothing else, the raised net could be used
as a safe way to cross the fast currents of the sand river.

Boudicca's hands are notably the most resistant to crushing, in that they're just kind of the ideas of hands translated out so Xiumei can grab onto something. Which means that of course her HP is restored by:

    SIDE-SADDLE DOG RESCUE

    "Wheeeeeeeee--!!"

Don't stop her, she's having a great time.

"You look so noble atop your steed!" Boudicca praises Xiumei, in the wake of it. She looks to Rikold, and asks: "So, does he... eat power cells, or...?"

Boudicca is still kind of confused by technology, so she's almost certainly envisioning him chomping down on it like that metal crusher was about to. Give her a break, she only recently learned what a cyborg is, even though she's been hanging out with Gwen for years. She thought she was just wearing a very large and complicated glove.

But -- "It is terribly exciting!" She enthuses, clapping her hands together. "Why, I bet wherever I point, there will be something that is happening!" And lo, she points, and --

    -- is that a net?!

"Ho!" She exclaims, turning to see. "They have caught something! Let us away!" She even thoughtfully sprinkles some more speed leaves on Xiumei before zooming over there!

"You have caught something quite large," she remarks, as she comes to a halt. "Even with all your strength... please, worry not! The strength of Moor Gault's flames shall brace you!"

She lights the coals in her brazier, and holds it aloft, the light and warmth washing over the pulley. "You are strong!" She encourages them, as the holy reinforcement washes out. "Pull...!!"

DG: Seraph Boudicca has used her Tool Bestial Brazier toward her party's challenge, Reel Big Treasure. Strengthen! Party

<Pose Tracker> Xiumei Klein has posed.

"Ah! Thank you," Xiumei says to Boudicca. She pats Rikold on the side. "We've been practicing that."

"WOOF."

Xiumei takes the offered power cell, then she nods. She smiles as she does, and slides it into her day pack (specially prepared for ventures into Digs, of course).

"It is!" Xiumei answers Nora "I find it very charming. The beastpeople here seem to be quite interesting--oh, and the automatons, too."

"It's nice peole left them alone. Doesn't always go like that..." Varius trails off, his tone growing a little more grave. Then he sighs; some traumas stick with a person.

She turns her head, following where Boudicca points. To a river of flowing sand -- and, from it, a net. Her eyes widen. She then hurries after; Rikold walks after, while Avile and Varius float.

They stop, as a group. Rikold hangs back while Xiumei looks at the little beastfolk. She comes over after Boudicca. "Let me help!" she says. She steps in, grabbing the rope with them.

"Pull!" she echoes.

DG: Xiumei Klein has contributed a Brute Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Reel Big Treasure.
<Pose Tracker> Eleanor Klein has posed.

"I agree!" Eleanor says to Boudicca of Xiumei's noble look. "But then, I think she looks great most places," she adds cheerfully. A pause. Does he eat power cells...?

Boudicca points, and is right!

"Practice is so important," Eleanor agrees. "...Yes," Eleanor says. "This is a place worth protecting, I think," to Varius.

But there is a net, and...

Her eyes light up. "It's time!" she says, and the red bracelet at her wrist shines in the light. They are strong--

"I'll help!" she says. "Just hang onto me if you tumble off!"

Eleanor PULLS. With the Power Bracelet.

DG: Eleanor Klein has used her Tool Power Bracelet toward her party's challenge, Reel Big Treasure.

<Pose Tracker> Seraph Boudicca has posed.

"Well," Boudicca says, to Varius, "I once had to scare off a group of bandits from wandering this way, but I think that even if they had arrived here, the giant crushing maw may well have frightened them off!"

How Boudicca scares anyone is an open question; she's not about to volunteer how it was her job for a century. Being a teenager was embarrassing, shut up.

But Xiumei jumps in to PULLLLL, and Eleanor -- well, Eleanor has help. "What a clever bangle!" Boudicca says, even though she knows, VERY WELL, that it's a Power Bracelet.

She is making a joke. This is humour. Please laugh.

Luckily, the Power Bracelet is no joke -- and neither are Xiumei's guns (no, not the ones she's stashed for this outing). The little rabbitfolk are all empowered by Moor Gault, as well, to help heaaaaaaaaave the pulley and pull the net clear. Once it's safely situated, treasures tumble out, and one of those rabbitfolk holds a shiny rock up for Xiumei.

"That is an amazing treasure," Boudicca adds, because she's friends with Azoth and knows the value of a cool rock.

DG: Xiumei Klein has drawn a new Challenge.

<Pose Tracker> Xiumei Klein has posed.

"N-Nora," Xiumei says, her cheeks reddening for a moment.

"Yeah. Good. Gotta look after places like this." Varius is quiet for a moment after agreeing -- thinking, but observing too, as they all work at the net.

The treasure falls free, and Xiumei looks down at the shiny rock. Her eyes sparkle, a little; then she adjusts her glasses. She takes the rock, gratefully.

"...Than you," she says. "I'll be sure to treasure it."

She puts it, too, away.

After a time, they must continue. Deeper and deeper; the city grows to be less of a city and more of a tunnel. And then the ground gives away. Xiumei yelps, as she goes sliding.

"Ah...!"

Rikold starts to fly-- while Varius and Avile hover after. Then, they slam down into the bottom. It's dark there, but then Rikold's eyes light up.

Literally, like flashlights.

They find themselves in a graveyard -- for broken and shattered Gears lay all around. Wreckage and broken material, which may explain how Scraphaven came to be built. But there isn't an exit apparent, save for climbing up them.

"The debris here..." Xiumei looks around. "It's not stable." She reaches into her bag, using Rikold's light to look at the notebook she takes out. She starts taking notes. "Let's look at them carefully, and note which ones look safest to climb."

DG: Xiumei Klein has used her Tool Clerk's Notebook toward her party's challenge, Gear Graveyard.
<Pose Tracker> Eleanor Klein has posed.

"I'm sure you can be very scary when you want to be, Boudicca." She means it! ...It's also just a nice thing to say, probably? ...Probably. Maybe. "I think you're right, though!"

She beams at Xiumei. She does grow more serious at Varius though. She looks ino the distance for a moment.

But, Eleanor laughs at Boudicca's joke. Or maybe just because, "I'm very fond of it," she says.

She also likes shiny rocks, though not as much as Azoth. No one likes shiny rocks as much as Azoth. "Lovely!"

As they continue, the ground gives way, and--"Aaah!"

Eleanor stumbles and falls, and then rights herself as they hit the bottom, wincing. She should've turned into an owl, but it's hard to do when she's surrised...

But the graveyard before themm sobers her from her, "Oww..."

No, it's not stable. But... Hm.

"I have a thought," she says. She pulls a Pokeball from her bag, and from it emerges a beautiful red-orange fox. "Pyri," Eleanor says, "Please use your power to stabilize the ground."

Pyri turns, and stares at Boudicca. o_o Then she does her work.

"...She's so cute, isn't she?" Eleanor says, trying to keep the mood up.

DG: Eleanor Klein has used her Tool Spooky Pyri toward her party's challenge, Gear Graveyard. Rally!
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Boudicca has posed.

    "Oh!"

Boudicca falls down, and she's even thoughtful enough to land in a pile like everyone else. She's just like you!

And she's still got her brazier, so she just lights it up to use it as a source of light while they're looking around. Moor Gault won't mind. (Probably.)

She stares at Pyri in turn, with her big, grey-green eyes. o_o.

"I will feed her flames," Boudicca assures Eleanor. "But whilst we work, please also remember to hydrate! You have not had water since we watched the parade. Humans are mostly water, you know." Did Lanval tell her that? She's handing out water skeins before anyone can protest, anyway.

And Pyri gets a nice breeze to help her work, because obviously Althenian elements also apply to Nedian creatures.

DG: Seraph Boudicca has used her Tool Emergency Supplies toward her party's challenge, Gear Graveyard. Cleanse! All
negative effects will be cleared at the end of the round! Shortsighted! The party will suffer a penalty next round...
but not this round!

It isn't until you return to Scraphaven's main city that you discover a
hidden path to a wide, open chamber. Sunlight creeps in from the damaged
cavern above, dimly illuminating what can only be a Gear hanger -- a vacant
one, save for abandoned terminals on the upper platforms. Their code
impossible to read for anyone who does not understand both advanced
computing /and/ Zeboim, except for one particular entry:

/Everyone is counting on me to stir the Glimmerforge from slumber... But
I've spoken with the metal and seen into its dreams. The power we borrow
does not come from a savior, but a destroyer. To the next Metalspeaker:
please continue my work. The Glimmerforge cannot be awakened, and if it is,
we must have a means of returning it to sleep./

What follows a mix of code and song. A lullaby. The terminal allows you to
download this 'Metalspeaker's' melody into one of the digital devices nearby
and create, essentially, a music box. Widgetmancers might better understand
what practical purpose this could serve.

But the machine spoken of in the notes isn't being held here anymore,
clearly. Does that mean it's been activated, as the Metalspeaker feared? And
the nature of this code... Somewhere out there is an intact Zeboim era Gear.
  Who has it now?

(OOC: The music box stores a strange form of code that can be installed into
an existing ARM, imbuing an Attack with a mysterious data disruption
property to justify an Artillery flag against Gears. Failing that, it's
  still a nice music box!)

<Pose Tracker> Xiumei Klein has posed.

"She is very cute," Xiumei says, with a smile at Eleanor. She looks at Pyri and nods, as she gets to work on stabilizing the ground.

For her part, Xiumei paces up and down this part of the chasm. She notes some scrap piles -- marking them off, in one list, as unsuitable. Others, she notes as seeming worth further investigation.

"I did know that," she tells Boudicca, regarding humans and water composition. But, she is well-learned for someone from Filgaia. She does, in fact, have a drink from her canteen.

In time, they find the way out.

Then it's a matter of getting everyone up. Here, Rikold proves a great help -- changing to his jet form, andlifting them up as needed. They climb out.

Then, they make their way back towards Scraphaven proper.

On the way, they find an abandoned Gear hangar. The Gears are long since emptied; there is a terminal, though. Xiumei blinks and hurries over. She looks at the screen.

Her command of Zeboim is limited. Varius and Avile, though, have it translated in less than a second.

Avile reads it aloud. Then, at the end...

"That's worrying... a destroyer? This Glimmerforge could be a problem." She trails off. "But there's a tune here. I'm going to do it."

There is a moment's pause -- then, from her dron, a musical tone plays. Xiumei blinks, once.

"So... this will put that Glimmerforge back to sleep," she says. "That's good. Ah..." She looks at the empty spot for a Gear.

"...I wonder."
