The son of a Meribian merchant, Corwynt was orphaned during the Shadow Dragon Cult's assault on the city. Some years later, when the Goddess emerged from her Tower, he travelled to the seat of her power to pledge his family's holdings, and his own life, into her service. He was one of the earliest volunteers in Leo's defence force, wielding powerful martial arts and wind magic in defence of Pentagulia. Now a captain in Althena's Guard, "Storm Fist" Corwynt has been pulled into the hunt for the Lord of Calamity, to slay her in the name of the Goddess he serves.

Background

Corwynt belonged to the third generation of a family of merchants working out of Meribia; nothing like the scale of the great Ramus family, but significant nonetheless. His grandfather and his parents worked in the business, while he and his younger sister had a simple, privileged life like many on the continent.

Then the Shadow Dragon Cult came, and the world changed. The cultists torched Corwynt's home and slaughtered his family. A week of pain and torture followed, until an old martial artist swept onto the scene, killed the cultists, and saved the town. When Lunn refused a reward for his heroism, choosing instead to simply teach others the way of the fist, Corwynt knew he had found a path he could follow.

He sought to train with Lunn, but (following a short trial examination), the old man sent him to a nearby academy instead. Thus Corwynt enrolled in The Wondrous Academy of the Smiling Breeze; with his family gone, he devoted his every waking moment to training under his new master, and therefore quickly surpassed the majority of his fellow students. Indeed, within a few short years, he had surpassed even his master, who told the young man there was nothing left to teach him.

After once again failing to earn a place under Lunn, Corwynt journeyed, making his way to Pentagulia. As he approached the Holy City, he heard tales of a nascent armed force, pushing back against the bandits and highwaymen plaguing the area. Corwynt sought them out upon his arrival, pledging himself to their service (and turning what remained of his family's fortune over to the Goddess's coffers). His skill in battle and dedication to service won him the attention of his superiors, and as the months rolled past, he began to rise in the ranks, gaining a nickname - the Storm Fist - to match both his combat skills and the intensity of his commitment to protecting the faithful.

Corwynt was in Pentagulia when the Goddess sent White Knight Leo on a mission in search of the Third Lord of Calamity. Due to his leadership and combat skills, he was assigned the role of second in command of Leo's force, and ordered to assist him in his quest to seek out Lucia the Destroyer...and put an end to her.

Powers and Abilities

Corwynt is the foremost living master of the martial arts taught at a comparatively unspectacular dojo in Meribia - The Wondrous Academy of the Smiling Breeze. Through a combination of personal devotion, skill, and experience in combat, he seeks to one day seek training out under one of the Four Heroes, the Blue Master Lunn.

Corwynt's sorcery comes from the Blessing of Althena; he is a natural black mage with an affinity for the wind element. He uses it to enhance his own physical abilities, but can also channel it through his fists for pure damage. He has also developed an application of sorcery that is devastating to hostile mages - a spell that draws the breath from his enemy's lungs and into his own. He can't sustain it for long in the rush of combat, and it takes a lot of power to pull it off, but it's one of the reasons he was chosen to chase after Lucia and her companions.
