==============================<* Bandit Butte *>==============================

The flatlands to the east of the Goddess Plains are less prosperous than the grasslands at the heart of the Meribus continent, but a few homesteads dot the horizons, where families are carving a life for themselves out of the wilds.

The name of "Bandit Butte" was given to this region many years ago; while initially it referred only to the increased lawlessness of the region, it has taken on a new meaning since the emergence of the Goddess from her tower. As Althena began to make proclamations outlawing licentious behaviour in her faithful - including pastimes such as drink, music, or dancing - some who chose to reject these commands began making their way into this region, hoping to continue to live their lives far from the reach of the Guard.

 The Bandit Butte is the most lawless place on the Meribian continent;
bandits and highwaymen have taken up residence here, far from the reach of
 Althena's Guard.

While there is no border to the Butte, the outer regions are heavily
patrolled by small groups seeking to ambush travelers or Guard patrols. If
you plan your approach well, you may be able to slip past the patrols
unnoticed; if not, the bandits will be on high alert.

=Dungeon Conditions: Reckless, Vault==========================================
<Pose Tracker> Corwynt has posed.

The Storm Fist Corwynt had been almost half a mile away from the conflict with a hellionized Heldalf when most everyone in the vicinity of Lost July was whisked away to Lunar. He ended up more than a hundred miles away from anyone else when he landed.

A fact people can file away for future reference: interplanetary teleports aren't terribly precise.

Corwynt doesn't mind. After more than a year on the Blue Star, he is finally returned to the embrace of Althena. Everything is just right in a way that it hadn't been on Filgaia - the air is cleaner, the water sweeter, and the radiant presence of the Goddess rings like a bell note in everything he sees and hears. The little man began moving toward the nearest Guard detachment immediately, but his path took him near to a bandit outpost of some ill repute.

Corwynt had hoped they had survived the year he was away, and was not disappointed to find that to be the case. He can be the instrument that delivers them to justice.

The little martial artist lies crouched behind a boulder; he has been observing patrol patterns for the past twenty minutes, the little jewel on his chest gleaming as he runs them through his memory. After a while, he thinks he has it. "Come," he whispers to erstwhile companions, allies, and hangers-on as he slips forward through the shadows.

DG: Corwynt has used his Tool Rememberizer toward his party's challenge, Am-Butte-Scade.
<Pose Tracker> Margaret has posed.

Fortunately or unfortunately for Corwynt, he arrived in close proximity of Margaret, the BLACK PEARL of NEO VANE, and - peculiarly enough - one of her minions, er, lieutenants, a man in a leather jerkin who, on a professional basis, does not wear a shirt. This well-oiled man is named Griz. He has been fidgeting in delight all the while.

Margaret mostly seems tired. A lot of this is because she doesn't have all her harlot paint on. She has been crouched down on one knee and bent over almost double, putting her at a similar eye-level to Corwynt. "High achiever," Margaret says, with a certain fatigued sourness.

"C'mon, ma'am, we're back. We got back. By the Goddess," Griz says. "Did you ever think you were gonna?? Silf was talking about how the worms were gonna eat her flesh. Boy, she gets on about that stuff, huh. I hope they're fine!"

"We'll check their island if they don't report in in a couple of weeks," Margaret says irritably. She reaches at her waist - and she lingers; for the pouch of the cards is battered, but it was made on this world.

I made it, she thinks, and she looks to the sky. Drawing out a card, she looks to the southwest, for no clear reason. WE made it.

The card has the Six of Wands on it - VICTORY - and she makes a low, throaty chuckle. Then, to the others, "Come on. Think of it as your homecoming present."

"But they're not from -" Griz begins.

"Shhhh," Margaret says.

The two of them scuttle discreetly forwards, in Corwynt's wake.

DG: Margaret has used her Tool Travelers Cards toward her party's challenge, Am-Butte-Scade.
<Pose Tracker> Bethany Liston has posed.

Bounty hunting on another world was not one of the careers that Bethany Liston had ever pictured for herself. It had, until very recently, been a prospect that had not even crossed her mind.

Desperation, dwindling supplies, and a lack of other choices have changed that. As it stands, the doctor has gathered her limited shells and signed on with a small contingent off to bring justice to bandits. That sort of work is, at least, not unheard of to a Filgaian. Her ARM stays at the bottom of her medicine bag for now, ostensibly here as support more than anything else.

"You're sure this is the way?" Bethany mutters quietly, more from nerves than anything else. Lunar is a strange, new, arguably healthy world. Even patients are thinner on the ground. Still, one of the few people she did have cause to treat muttered something about this encampment. Bethany looks down at the notes she took- namely the reminder to avoid particular bushes that the bandits like to set traps in- before glancing back up to follow the leader.

DG: Bethany Liston has used her Tool Patient Notes toward her party's challenge, Am-Butte-Scade.
<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

Layna was not half a mile away from the conflict with Heldalf. In fact, she was right there, fighting him. This was coming off of a fight with another noteworthy Hellion, so suffice it to say it had been quite the experience.

Fortunately, she had had time to recover - and had been through some Shenanigans with some friends of hers, but that was a story for another time - so now that she was here on Lunar, it was time to stretch her legs again.

And what better way is there to do that than picking on lesser criminals?

Of course, the problem with being back home was that people knew who she was, and that came with...problems. So, in the interest of making herself as unrecognizable as possible, she is without her trademark coat and hat today. Her hair, which she normally allowed to flow freely, was tied back, and she was now bearing an eyepatch.

She still had both eyes. At least she'd be ready if they entered a dark place.

And so, there she was, crouching behind a boulder along with Corwynt, Bethany, Margaret, and Griz. Layna cracks her neck for a moment. It looked like 'stealth' was the name of the game here. She was usually the 'charge right in' type of person, but if they'd decided on a plan of action, it was better to keep to it.

And so she creeps along behind them, keeping an eye out for any possible trouble along the way.

DG: Layna Manydays has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Am-Butte-Scade.
<Pose Tracker> Lydia Seren has posed.

"Explosion, explosion, la la la! Explosion, explosion, la la la!" Lydia sings as she skips along the path, seemingly completely oblivious to the fact that there's a bandit outpost. Or maybe she's going to use it to practice her summoning. It's hard to tell. But regardless, she ends up skipping right past Corwynt and Margaret. SHe pauses and skips in reverse to look at Corwynt and Margaret.

Her face is deadpan. Her arm is still this strange liquidy metal that seems to be having consistency problems.

"You look kind of familiar." She tells Corwynt. "Back where I'm from, there was this guy named Mysterious Drifter El Corwynt--or maybe I'm getting the name wrong--and he was kind of a dork." She tilts her head. "...Uhh not saying you're a dork, just you know, you look like him."

She waits another moment before adding, "Hehh...I'm just screwin' with you. Gonna go the sneak sneak route? Cause I have a plan."

She then says, "Psst. Hey Schrodinger."

A cat materializes on her shoudlder. "You know what to do."

The cat bounces off Lydia's shoulder and starts walking right up in broad daylight (so to speak) to the bandit lair, but outside of the normal path. It starts meowing loudly, before flopping over onto its back and exposing its own butte.

Perhaps the bandits will rush to pet the kitty and help with sneaking inside.

DG: Lydia Seren has used her Tool Schrodinger the Cat toward her party's challenge, Am-Butte-Scade.

<Pose Tracker> Corwynt has posed.

If Corwynt - who is much less mysterious and drifty here on Lunar - objects to the presence of any of his fellow travelers, he makes no mention of it. This is partly because he's in too good a mood, and partly because talking when trying to sneak is a bad idea. As the group moves forward, they can hear a distant, whispered conversation."

"See anything?"

"Nah."

"Man, it's sort of boring around here lately."

"Boring is--- hey, is that a cat?"

"Dude, let's eat it."

<Pose Tracker> Margaret has posed.

Margaret's ear twitches, the one with the ragged tip. "Hm?" she says, glancing at Bethany. "What was that? Perhaps you're more familiar with this terrain than we are? Perhaps you'd like to second-guess our route, based on your childhood memories of Lunar? Perhaps you DO have more experience with wanton banditry and plunder--"

"She's just tired," Griz interjects, laughing in that way that suggests that he actually isn't laughing at all, haha, but he is actually terrified. "We're real glad to have you along, miss!"

"I am just SAYING," Margaret huffs, "that if some horrible person pops up to second-guess me about my own home star, I am going to wear their guts for garters. I mean it! I need new garters."

"She really does," Griz agrees, informing An-- Let's go with "Bayna" instead. Informing Bayna of this fact.

"Nice cat," Margaret asides to Lydia. She hasn't reacted to the weird gooshy arm. Maybe she can't see metal. Isn't that a thing with elves?

And then as the cat begins to do what cats do on Lunar, Filgaia, or any of a thousand thousand other inhabited planets settled by those who survived the treachery of the Swiss, there comes another familiar noise: a barking!

A dog comes lunging out of a rude encampment, coming up short and barking with slavering furiousness at the cat as presented. The singular eyepatch makes this dog memorable, but his head looks soft. The leashing rope he's on is drawn taut, though. The sinister man with the scarred face and the eyepatches straightens up, stalking forwards and letting out a booming laugh, using that rope as a guide. "LIKE THE BOLD HARLEQUIN FISH DRAWN TO THE VERY TENTACLE OF THE ANEMONE," he shouts.

Several other bandits rush forwards. Margaret, who seems to be feeling nasty, asks the Filgaian contingent, "Do you know what an anemone is? It's not related to your magic lantern shows, it's a sort of animal flower that lives in the sea." (In the background, Griz roundhouse kicks a bandit towards Corwynt, having, it seems, out-levelled this content.)

"And uh," Griz says, "I don't - I think the harlequin fish like... lives around the anemone?"

"IT'S A METAPHOR," shouts the sinister man.

Margaret leans against her naginata, cheeks puffing out. Her ears flatten against the side of her head. Griz looks at the man with the bound eyes, at the others, raises an index finger, and crouches down to offer a hand for the dog to investigate.

Will everyone be able to do so?

Will they make friends?

Or will the smell of the PLANETDEATH DISEASE just get them bit?

DG: Margaret has contributed a Combat Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Butte Ugly.
<Pose Tracker> Corwynt has posed.

Corwynt - having just parried a sword cut from a lesser bandit and rolled under the swing of a second - finds himself the imminent recipient of a third flying, spinkicked bandit. He offers Griz a faint smile - usually the peak of his expressiveness - of appreciation for the maneuver and the courtesy both.

The little man catches the bandit and, with a surge of green-white energy, leaps a dozen feet into the air, then begins turning into a rapid spin. The Blessing of the Goddess sings through the air as Corwynt rotates rapidly on the way doen, granting the bandit the glory of a nearly-literal tornado bomb.

DG: Corwynt has used his Tool Vambraces toward his party's challenge, Butte Ugly.
<Pose Tracker> Lydia Seren has posed.

"I'm not really comfortable fighting somebody with no eyes and I'm definitely not hitting a dog," Lydia says. "I have principles."

Schrodinger, however, approaches the dog and rubs its side against its legs just to so that it won't be intimidated by any canine.

That being said, Lydia is perfectly okay with dropping star patterned magic on bandits that aren't wearing two eyepatches and on any non-dog or non-cats in the area."Thanks," Lydia tells Margaret. "We found that cat in a ruin. Their name is Schcrodinger. It's kind of an unreliable jerk."

DG: Lydia Seren has contributed a Combat Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Butte Ugly.
<Pose Tracker> Bethany Liston has posed.

Hell's bells, it doesn't take much for this one to bite your head off. "Guess I'll keep my mouth shut." Bethany mutters, deciding not to possibly antagonise Margaret further. At least her notes were right about the bushes. She is also somewhat nonplussed by Lydia's sudden joining. "The more the merrier, I guess..." Given that her song doesn't give away their position, these Bandits can't be a big problem.

Then the bandits come rushing out, eyepatched dog and all. Bethany has time to make a quick evaluation of the bandits. Namely, are they worth bullets?

Making the possibly foolish call that they aren't, Bethany instead hefts up her medical bag to match an incoming attack, meeting a shortsword with a 'clang'. Bethany follows up by aiming to bring the armoured bag down on the head of her attacker, before swinging round into a defensive position.

She isn't messing with the guy with two eyepatches, even blind he seems a touch out of the doctor's pay grade.

DG: Bethany Liston has contributed a Combat Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Butte Ugly.
<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

Layna chuckles slightly at 'wanton banditry and plunder--'. Obviously, this upstanding citizen is just laughing at the thought of what would happen to those who committed such crimes.

"Does she now?" Layna asked, glancing toward Griz. "Shame, that. You know-"

Before she can get into whatever it is she knows, a dog appears, with a man standing behind it. She stares at him, unimpressed.

She leaves the dog to Griz - Layna's not going to punch a dog. But as for the man...

"Oh, come on. I'm sure he's got plenty of eyes under there. Probably just wearing those to make himself look tough." Layna says with a shrug toward Lydia and without a hint of irony. "See, watch."

Layna, as it happens, is perfectly comfortable punching someone who may or may not have any eyes. She does, in fact, aim to walk right up to him and sock him in the face.

This is probably also a metaphor for something, but she's not sure what. She can think on it later.

DG: Layna Manydays has contributed a Combat Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Butte Ugly.
<Pose Tracker> Corwynt has posed.

"Just because he has eyepatches does not mean he does not have eyes," says Corwynt to Lydia as he dusts off the legs of his gi. "It's possible he is simply training to read the wind, or the earth." He says this like it's a thing, then waves at Layna. "See, she knows the right of it."

And even if he's wrong, Corwynt thinks, at least she's punching an infidel bandit blind dude.

The other bandits seem to go down pretty easily, or in one case, are brought down upon. They did not really expect this situation.

"Can you wash out that damn fool's bite wound before he gets the galloping foams?" Margaret asks Bethany, wearily. She straightens up finally. "Thank you."

"Heh heh," the man says as Layna approaches. "I can tell who this is. You're that fool of a smuggler, aren't you? Yes, running in rum and bringing in bootleg profits and" THUMP "What?! But --" He staggers back, tumbling onto his arse, his dog rushing over to whimper and lick at his face.

"All of you are my prisoners now," Margaret announces. "Someone will be along to take you to the mines shortly." After this, she says to Corwynt, "Unless you have alternative plans."

<Pose Tracker> Bethany Liston has posed.

That did not go well. Bethany's attack goes wide, and her attempt to use her bag to shield herself becomes more of an attempt to hide under it, with limited success. Bandits brutally batter the bag, before the bandit boss bites the big one. That catches their attention, giving Bethany a quick chance to fight back. The rest seem to be handled well enough.

Still, wound care she can do something about. Clean water comes out of the bag, and Griz's dog bite is swiftly cleaned and bandaged with speed and precision. "There. Try not to put too much pressure on it."

Bethany pauses, and then pulls out a few tablets, and slips them to Griz. "Take one of these." She whispers. "Judging by your boss, you'll need it."+pot

<Pose Tracker> Lydia Seren has posed.

Lydia looks to Margaret. "Yeah? Then what?" The mines? Are they taking people to slave mines? Gross. They are bandits, though, and they should probably be stopped. "Did the bandits steal them?" She asks. "I'll let you know if I see 'em."

But then after a moment adds, "Sorry, I mean, you gotta do what you gotta do and all."

She watches Layna punch a blind man repeatedly for a moment impassively. She looks back to Margaret. "I don't like killing either, but that's less a principle and more me finding it really gross and hard."

She starts making her way forward, clearly okay with being a lazy. "I guess we can also just rely on Corwynt to do all the fighting because I think he wants it the most. Layna too."

Eventually the party finds an outcropping! A crack, if you will, between the two cheeks that compose this dungeon. But luckily there's heavy clamps. Lydia tries to heft one up and carry it over to the outcropping.

"Careful everyone." She says. "We don't want to fall into the Butte's Crack. It'll take forever to get back."

DG: Lydia Seren has contributed a Brute Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Buste Your Butte.
<Pose Tracker> Bethany Liston has posed.

Oh good. Carrying things. Bethany pauses, and pops a few of those pills she offered to Griz. Something to dull the complaints her muscles will shortly be making. Putting her bag safely to one side, Bethany starts to assist with the heavy lifting, preferring to give others a hand rather than necessarily try and drag something across herself. It's just the sensible approach.

DG: Bethany Liston has used her Tool Painkillers toward her party's challenge, Buste Your Butte.
<Pose Tracker> Corwynt has posed.

Corwynt does indeed have alternate plans, but he waits until everyone else has left before kicking them off the edge.

Also later, he lifts and stuff

<Pose Tracker> Margaret has posed.

Margaret closes her eyes and takes a deep breath.

"Well," she answers Lydia, "I'm speaking in a flippant and generic sense, but banditry is usually sentenced rather harshly as it is essentially piracy without the benefit of refreshing sea air. TYPICALLY SPEAKING bandits will either be hung or otherwise executed or will be put to public works - usually hard, difficult work. This is the Goddess's will and also helpfully means you don't have to pay much for the roads."

Margaret places a hand to her chest. "I am from a city that floats in the sky, so we don't need road repair. So usually it's the mines. I guess you could say they've dug their own hole! Ha ha ha! That's sarcasm," Margaret adds, leaning over to Lydia, eyes narrowing, "don't quote me literally to your visitor friends please."

Griz accepts Bethany's ministrations with relief. "Aw," he says, "Thanks - look, this is just her way, and I know that sounds real awful but she doesn't mean like ninety percent of what she says, you know? Like of that ninety I'd say like half of that is just kind of like uh, like when a bird puffs up big, right? And the other half's just blowin' off steam. That's forty five percent each just so we're clear."

As they go forwards, Margaret answers Lydia re: Corwynt, "It's worked out for me so far. You know, I wonder what's going to become of Krosse after all of this. Ugh, now I remembered. Well, I'm sure it'll work itself out."

Griz takes off his jacket and moves to muscle boards around, his injured hand only a minor obstacle. Margaret leans against her naginata again and supervises indolently.

DG: Margaret has contributed a Brute Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Buste Your Butte.
<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

He deserved that one, Layna decides. Sure, Layna wouldn't deny that she'd done a bit of smuggling here and there(well, okay, she would, considering the current company), but she probably wasn't the one he was talking about.

She was, after all, no fool.

She doesn't really seem to have any objection to the bandits being sent to 'the mines', or maybe she gets the feeling that opposing it probably wouldn't be too wise.

...Well, moving on!

They need to cross over to the next outcropping. However will they get to the bottom of this issue?

Layna reaches behind her, where her drill has taken up the spot where she used to keep her weapons, before the Lord of Calamity reduced them to scrap metal. The drill's gone through some aesthetic changes, but as much as she's tried to cover things up, it's still clearly a little out of place.

"Can't say I much care for Krosse. Either they'll sort themselves out, or someone else will - quickly and violently." Layna replies impassively with a shrug toward Margaret.

After messing with her drill for a moment, she has it set up to drill stakes into the boards they use in hopes of keeping them stable long enough to cross over.

DG: Layna Manydays has used her Tool Arm-Mounted Drill toward her party's challenge, Buste Your Butte.

<Pose Tracker> Lydia Seren has posed.

"Yeah I'm not uh sure I'm ready to judge how shit's done in a world I've been on for like a day and a half." Lydia says. "But to be honest, it's kind of cool that you have a flying city. Can it go to space? Is that how you got to Filgaia?"

She pauses for a moment before adding, "But I meant, like, why don't you have principles anymore? I won't quote you directly there either if you don't want."

Luckily thanks to--lets face it--mostly Layna, the party is able to cross without falling into the crack. Bethany, naturally, just ends up crawling along the crack. It's dangerous, but she has the skills to pull it through.

"Though I guess now that I think about it, I'm not really sure what I'm going to do while I'm here. I should totally just go around preaching the Guardians but to be honest, the Guardians are mostly concerned with making sure the grass grows so I don't think it'll hit off and I don't really want to do it."

She does frown though about Krosse and adds, "To be honest, it doesn't seem like anybody in Krosse is particularly happy so even if their hate cloud is protecting 'em, it seems kind of stupid. I'm guessing I'll probably have to throw asteroids at someone so I came here cause I figure I'll practice throwing asteroids and exploding things so I get really good at it."

She kinda lost track of where she was going with this.

<Pose Tracker> Bethany Liston has posed.

Self-medication pays off, and Bethany manages her share of cave crawling easily enough. It's not adventurous or dramatic, but it gets her through the other side and sometimes that's just fine. "That's a whole mess I don't even know how to reckon with." She says, having nothing of use to add to the conversation.

The path eventually leads to a patch. A patch of mushrooms. A patch of bizarre, and at least to Bethany, never seen before mushrooms. Spores drift slowly from each of them in the dank, damp cave. Now sure, sometimes these things can come in handy as a remedy, but to be frank, Bethany knows Sweet Fanny Anne about traditional Lunarian medicine.

"Hey, do any of you locals know anything about these?" She asks, pulling out her notepad. Maybe a patient mentioned something. Maybe she can just get a good sketch.

DG: Bethany Liston has used her Tool Patient Notes toward her party's challenge, Butte Munche.
<Pose Tracker> Corwynt has posed.

Storm Fist Corwynt looks over in response to Bethany's question. There is a whisper of the Blessing, and the jewel of his pendant glimmers once, faintly.

"They're mushrooms," he answers. Even perfect recall is little benefit when you've never seen or heard of a thing before. "Try one, if you'd like. Most everything on this world is a product of the bounty of the Goddess."

DG: Corwynt has used his Tool Rememberizer toward his party's challenge, Butte Munche.
<Pose Tracker> Margaret has posed.

"Well then you're wiser than most," Margaret answers Lydia. "By the Goddess, not six months goes by than some reformer sneaks in and tries to engaged in masked adventurism to try to undo some purported injustice of ours. The Alchemist, as if that's a singular title. The Sixth Order of Crimson Lextalionis. Mirry Malli the Mixed-up Minx. Malli's probably living in my house right now, the little weasel."

She addresses Krosse first. "Yes, well, we didn't cause the problem, but we have people there, people who believed us, and we abandoned them. I don't like that. Griz, back me up on this one."

"She totally doesn't like abandoning people," Griz grunts, sweatily.

"I'd encourage you to not bring them up in that sort of a way, given everything," Margaret says. "Of course if you'd like to speak ABOUT them, or write a story, give me some time to recover myself and I'll walk you into Neo-Vane myself. Our adventure here will be making academic careers for decades, whatever happens to Filgaia."

A beat passes.

"ARE THOSE MOMORELS?" Margaret says.

"uh," Griz says, as Margaret rushes forwards, grasping a mushroom in both hands and yanking hard on both of them.

"I thought I'd never HAVE one of these again," Margaret says, immediately wrapping her lips around one and biting it off, eyes rolling back in sybaritic delight. She offers the other one to Griz, who takes it, if with less evident enthusiasm.

"She uh," Griz explains, "she was kind of homesick, I think, before uh, yeah."

DG: Margaret has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Butte Munche.
<Pose Tracker> Lydia Seren has posed.

Lydia has already shoved one in her mouth. She did this around the time Margaret called her wise.

Schrodinger, the Cat, has also eaten one. So it's probably safe right? Schrodinger immediately starts splitting into several different Schrodingers and then back into one Schrodinger then to multiples again. This isn't you tripping (at least not yet) this is just what he does.

Between bites she says, "Yeah, I can't imagine what it must be like having a bunch of foreigners show up and start lecturing everybody. Must suck."

munch munch. "Anyway, I'd love to check out Lemina's hometown." munch. Yes she doesn't know the difference between Neo Vane and Vane. "Especially if it flies." munch. "But I can't really abandon Filgaia while there's a bunch of angry metal demons running around and I'm pretty sure Harken's up here too so she's probably doing crazy brainwashed girl things." munch.

DG: Lydia Seren has used her Tool Schrodinger the Cat toward her party's challenge, Butte Munche.
<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

Layna's not too big on the topic of Krosse right now. She glowers somewhat but doesn't say anything, instead deciding she'd cross that bridge when she got to it.

And since she got to that bridge, she crosses it. Easily enough.

Before long they come across a patch of mushrooms. Layna eyes them warily. She...doesn't think she knows any of them, actually. Most of her work at sea, after all.

"Yeah, sure. They're, uh-" Layna's about to make something up, when Margaret helpfully provides something that sounds accurate. "Yeah, that. Help yourself."

That made things much easier.

DG: Layna Manydays has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Butte Munche.

That's right. The whole 'bounty of the goddess' thing, which Bethany is not going to gainsay right now because sometimes she can read the room. Hesitantly, she picks up one of the smaller mushrooms, and takes a bite. "...Huh." I mean, Beth's not going for seconds, but it seems like they're safe enough after all.

At least for most people. Layna has the misfortune of standing in the spores for a bit too long, with spots and dots appearing on the edge of vision.

Layna finds herself teetering for a bit after that. ...She makes a mental note to watch out for those specific mushrooms in the future, or at least their spores. She starts to move...when suddenly a cheeky fellow who can only be the ruler of the Butte appears!

'HOLD ON TO YOUR ASSES, ASS HOLDERS!'

His resounding battle-cry gives Layna pause. It would seem he's of a mind to challenge their claim to the assets they've just located. If they can't think of a way to defeat him, they might find themselves the butt of the joke.

...Maybe the narrator is just scraping the bottom of the barrel, here.

Whatever the case, Layna gets an idea. She recites a quick incantation, and a strong gust sends a cloud of mushroom spores in the Butte Lord's general direction.

DG: Layna Manydays has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward her party's challenge, The Butte Lorde.
<Pose Tracker> Margaret has posed.

"There's something you need to know," Margaret tells Lydia, in tones of death, "about Vane."

Griz tightens up visibly. He's sweating bullets, or would be if he was familiar with bullets. Well, he is, now, but in general.

"Vane," Margaret says, "is -- I suppose I can't call it dead, but it's a ruin. Gone. Kaput. Finito. An ex-city. It has ceased to be. Bereft of life, it slowly decays. It has joined the hallowed memories of our ancestry. Since it's a city, or was, obviously, it isn't physically gone. Ausa - I pity her, if anything, because she was probably clinging to her mother's vision because that was the first life-wreckingly awful thing to happen to her, and it was Griz's second and my fourth."

"She would not be as exalted in Neo-Vane as she would be in Vane," Margaret says, "and I suppose I can't speak for how things are right NOW, BUT: She would be happier. But some would rather rule in a desert than serve in a paradise."

'hold onto your asses, ass holders!'

Margaret's head slowly turns to look towards the Butte Lord. "I beg," she says, "your pardon?"

(Griz holds onto his ass, as instructed.)

DG: Margaret has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward her party's challenge, The Butte Lorde.
<Pose Tracker> Corwynt has posed.

"DIE IN THE EMBRACE OF THE GODDESS YOU SPURN!" Corwynt's own battle cry rings out across the butte in direct challenge to that of the Butte Lorde, as he calls upon the Blessing of Althena and summons the winds of Lunar to his aid.

And they come.

A roaring gale howls in from across the length of the Goddess Plains as the faith of the Storm Fist is rewarded. Laughter boils out from him as he revels in the sheer feel of the air as it whirls around him. On Filgaia, the winds were weak, tainted, without anything but the barest fraction of the Goddess's mercy. Here, however, he has returned to the seat of his Goddess's power. And thus, his own.

With a sweeping gesture, the Storm Fist summons a gale and sends it roaring upward, trying to hurl the Butte Lorde off the throne he claims.

DG: Corwynt has used his Tool Rememberizer toward his party's challenge, The Butte Lorde.
<Pose Tracker> Lydia Seren has posed.

Lydia Seren blinks at Margaret a few times.

She doesn't say junk at the frown. But when Margaret goes into Vane's history. There's a faint munch as the differences between Vane and Neo Vane are explained. "Dang." She says. "You've had it rough, huh." She looks over to the incoming buttlord. "And some would prefer to lord over buttes." She adds philisophically.

She slowly extends a middle finger at the man.

"But she seems happy, so I guess there's that."

rShe watches Corwynt go in for a moment before looking back to Margaret. "I guess he was really homesick, huh? Missed open smiting?"

DG: Lydia Seren has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward her party's challenge, The Butte Lorde.
<Pose Tracker> Bethany Liston has posed.

THIS is the chief of the bandits they came here to deal with? Really? This, like much of the past few days, was not something she had prepared for, or expected.

A few moments of stunned silence give way to stunned silence, watching as two different streams of wind are spurred toward the Butte Lord, one more violent than the other. The other approach seems to be insults, but really, Lydia seems to have perfect that approach. Bethany decides to throw something into the magical wind to assist with the violence. A pouch of birdshot once destined for a shell instead is thrown into the gale Corwynt summons up. Hopefully the extra damage helps.

========================<* CHALLENGE - Butte Plugge *>========================
|Type: Final |Dungeon Ability: Brute |Challenge Rating: 3 |
--------------------------< Challenge Information: >--------------------------
After defeating the Butte Lorde, you can hear bandits rushing up toward you
from a lower section of the Butte; fortunately, you spot a large pile of
rocks and stones sitting at the top of the dry wash from which
 reinforcements are about to emerge.

If you can shift enough stone into the deadfall, you'll slow the tide of
bandits and have enough time to pick through the Butte Lorde's treasure. If
not, you'll have to flee without taking anything, or else be taken in the
 rear.
=Dungeon Conditions: Exhaust, Suffer==========================================
<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

Layna tries to debilitate the Butte Lord with a gust of mushroom spores...but as it turns out, he's practically built up an immunity to them at this point. They make him sneeze, but other than that...not much happens.

"Well, damn." Layna mutters.

For Corwynt, however, it's a different story. He calls upon the divine winds and they answer - and the Butte Lord wasn't quite ready to face a foe of the Storm Fist's caliber. The gale sends him flying off the mountains, and the addition of a little extra debris thanks to Bethany goes a long ways, as well.

"...Well, that was somethin'. Who was that?" Layna asks nonchalantly.

<Pose Tracker> Corwynt has posed.

"A fool and a heretic both," answers Corwynt, for whom that is enough said. "The world shall not long mourn his passing.

That said, the whole screaming and mild gale-force winds has attracted a great deal of attention; bells are ringing and voices are shouting as bandits begin rushing up toward the highest parts of the butte. Scowling, Corwyn consiers just wiping them all out and letting the Goddess sort them out, but... he hasn't quite tested the limits of his renewed power. Caution may prove best.

"Here," he suggests, using what is left of the winds to scatter stones, which he begins hurling down with surges of power. "These should help."

DG: Corwynt has contributed a Brute Basic Action toward his party's challenge, Butte Plugge.
<Pose Tracker> Margaret has posed.

"It isn't all sugarplums and soft baby goats, no," Margaret answers Lydia a little tersely.

"And you have to admit that a righteous smiting is a pleasure," Margaret tells her, before glancing towards Bethany and Layna. She blinks slowly...

And then Griz throws himself forwards with a shout of "ThunderrrrrrrrrrOAD!" Lightning crackles around his legs and he lets out a 'yow!' of joy, not pain, as he raises one leg and slams it against the stone heap, bending himself backwards and saying, "Damn - I can feel these rocks shiftin'! Hurry up!"

Margaret advances towards the assorted sparkly things and raises the front tail of her dress, dropping things into it. "I destroyed most of my jewelry to defeat evil malevolent monsters on your planet," Margaret announces, "So I call first pick of the shares, fair? Fair, Griz?" ("Yes'm")

"After we see if we can identify the original owners of course," she adds, probably because she remembered Corwynt.

"How many of these losers are there? Did we find, like, the biggest camp in the kingdom?" Griz asks as his muscular legs flex. "Good gravy this feels GOOD. Man, boss, don't go nuts with that new spell of yours! You'll explode your heart!"

"Rex did not explode his heart learning Thunder Road," Margaret complains.

"He said it felt that way."

"He had eaten an entire plate of comals with cheese and sliced peppers for dinner. It was gas."

DG: Margaret has contributed a Brute Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Butte Plugge.
<Pose Tracker> Bethany Liston has posed.

Rocks and lifting things again. This wouldn't be particularly welcome if it weren't for the horde of bandits. "It can't ever be simple, can it?" And again, painkillers are recklessly applied to push through the tiredness and muscular pain as Bethany starts trying to move rocks into the path of the bandit. She could be gathering spoils, but either that hasn't occurred or the present threat of banditry is higher priority. That or she just likes moving rocks around at inopportune time.

DG: Bethany Liston has used her Tool Painkillers toward her party's challenge, Butte Plugge.
<Pose Tracker> Lydia Seren has posed.

"Dang." Lydia says as Corwynt literally tornado kung fu's a guy off a mountain. "Brutal."

Lydia does not admit that a righteous smiting is a pleasure before admitting, "If you want to pull stuff outta the Butte go ahead." to Margaret. She glances over to Corwynt for a moment before picking up Schrodinger in one arm. She chucks rocks gradually to lend a hand but to be perfectly honest she's using one arm and she does not lift. She probably even skips leg day.

"Anyway," Lydia adds. "If there's a baby goat, it's yours."

DG: Lydia Seren has contributed a Brute Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Butte Plugge.
<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

"Aye, good idea." Layna says with a nod toward Corwynt. The drill comes out again, and she returns the original attachment to its rightful place. She didn't need to fix anything here, no, now it was time to break things.

And break things she does, the drill whirring dangerously as she pierces through rock and stone, weaking their supports so that Corwynt's winds can send it all tumbling down into the right place.

"Nay, lass. Wouldn't be enjoyable if it were!" She comments with a grin toward Bethany.

And wasn't that the most important thing?

...Well, the loot was still a big part of it, too. She was a pirate, after all, even if she was pretending not to be.

DG: Layna Manydays has used her Tool Arm-Mounted Drill toward her party's challenge, Butte Plugge.

========================<* CHALLENGE - Butte Flosse *>========================
|Type: Landmark |Dungeon Ability: Conclusion|Challenge Rating: 1 |
--------------------------< Challenge Information: >--------------------------
As your group escapes the lair of the Butte Lorde, you manage to grab only a
single item from the stash. By the time you make it to safety, you discover
what it is: a carefully crafted tooth-care set, including brush, picks, and
 other accoutrements.

What an odd thing for a bandit to have.
=Dungeon Conditions: Bad Luck, Treasure=======================================
<Pose Tracker> Corwynt has posed.

Through the heroic efforts of everyone involved, many bandits fall to the rain of stones, which rain down ont hem like rain, only more.

Unfortunately, the group runs out of rocks before the bandits run out of dudes, and by that point Corwynt is running out of magic and also patience. "All right, that's enough," he says, moving toward the butte's edge. "Everyone off."

He will... probably use his magic to help everyone float down?

<Pose Tracker> Lydia Seren has posed.

Lydia freely jumps off the butte. She fans out her arms like she makes ridiculous jumps like this all the time. She has portal guns so, well, she generally doesn't fret fall damage too much.

She's also a little nuts.

But when all is said and done, she looks at the tooth care set, the brush, picks, and the like and says, "Well," straightening.

"Margaret asked for first pick so... Congrats!"

<Pose Tracker> Margaret has posed.

Margaret pauses on the threshold.

"Oh, by the GODDESS," she groans, unable to clutch at her face because of her use of her skirt tail as a bag but REALLY WANTING TO FACEPALM. "Ugh. UGGGGHHHHH!"

<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

"You know, I gotta say, I can respect the man for seeing to proper dental care procedures. You don't get a lotta that in bandits these days, aye? Some of them have no class at all, I tell ya." Layna comments, looking over the tooth care set curiously...and then chuckles to herself, before following Corwynt over to the edge.

"Aye, have fun with that, lass. You earned it!" She says, with a grin and a wave...before leaping off, using her own wind magic to descend safely.

Sure, she didn't get much out of this, but she was rewarded in the way that counts - she got to punch a man in the face.

Who can ask for anything more?

<Pose Tracker> Corwynt has posed.

"Do not fret, Magus Margaret," Corwynt says as he flutters downward. "At times like these, one cannot afford to be picky."

He must be feeling chipper.

<Pose Tracker> Margaret has posed.

The 'Evil' in Margaret's class title flashes purple several times.

<Pose Tracker> Bethany Liston has posed.

"Oh, hells bells. You know we don't all have floaty wind magic, right?" Bethany complains, if pointlessly. And then Margaret puts on her display, and Bethany chuckles. "Well, if you decide you don't want it, I can probably find a use for it." This is said with the certainty of someone who deals with claims of toothache far too often. And then she jumps, even if she's earned herself a rougher landing.
