Tethelle was born in a village fading from history.

It was originally founded (according to village histories) by a great Baskar warrior after the Metal Demon Wars; it was said that she was trained by Equites personally. Whether true or not, this warrior was said to have collected groups of Baskar isolated and reduced in number by the wars, collecting several lost outposts into a core of survivors and creating a new home with them.

During the Day of Collapse, the original village was destroyed, and for a time the survivors wandered before ending on the western coast of Aquvy. There they refounded their village, their traditions partially lost or changed by time. There they did not thrive, and by the current day, have only a single Zoa Priest (besides Tethelle herself) to maintain the great martial traditions of the past.

Tethelle was the only child, a daughter of a fisherman and a shell-carving mother. Growing up where she did was hard, and she was expected to chip in as early as she could. Tethelle was hard-working even as a child; she did her job without complaint, and even more than her share, though she always found time to have fun, too. She dreamed, and she never told anybody what she dreamed about - but she felt she would not be there in the village forever.

It was a surprise to nobody when Tethelle was chosen as her generation's Priestess candidate. There were few children her age at all, and no others who would do well. An active youth, she took to the physical side of her training very well, and surprised many people by doing well in the spiritual aspects as well. It was a place her dedication (and stubbornness) paid off. She could speak to the spirits more clearly than most, and gained a feel for the people around her that she hadn't had before. Still, she got into trouble once in a while for various pranks and actions 'unbecoming of a Priestess' - not that she let this stop her from doing something else later.

When she turned seventeen, Tethelle was supposed to stand in vigil for a day and a night, and then go out into the desert on a pilgrimage to find herself, only returning when she had grown in spirit and physical skill. Everything went perfectly normally until her vigil, when a voice spoke to her.

It was the voice of the Guardian, and it told her to go to Ignas, because there would be something there that must be done. And that was all.

So rather than go into the desert, Tethelle informed her village that she would be taking her pilgrimage in Ignas, guided by the Guardians. Though she was supported by some of the village, who treated it as a divine revelation to the Zoa Priesthood, others assumed she was just trying to run away. The town was fading. She wouldn't be the first child her age to try to leave it.

But Tethelle was determined. And so she traveled - first to Guild Galad, and from then on to Ignas, taking the role of a Drifter. And she enjoyed it; it suited her. She was not meant for idleness, and she felt an urge to explore the world, to learn - to experience as part of the path toward self-refinement.

But she still has a mission, and she never forgets it. It is her belief that she has a duty to go out into the world, to make it a better place, to stand against darkness... and to find out what the words of the Guardians truly meant.

Unfortunately, even her village's records of it are incomplete after the Day of Collapse. Becoming skilled enough to recreate the lost portions of the style is a personal goal of Tethelle's.

"Strive for perfection in all things... but don't forget to enjoy the world while you do it."

A member of a schismatic sect of Baskar from the faraway continent of Aquvy. The Baskar of Tethelle's isolated village claim to be descended from the family of a great Baskar warrior of the Metal Demon War. Whether true or not, they maintain an ancient and extremely complex martial style based upon the aspects of the Guardians. Tethelle is the youngest scion of this fading tribe, the only member of her generation to take up the mantle of priesthood and learn the ancient style. But despite this Tethelle is more warrior than priest, and more Drifter than either; she's fun-loving, occasionally prone to overindulging, and enjoys a good time far more than the stereotype of the mystical, peaceful Zoa Priestess. She has left her home on an adventure loosely disguised as a pilgrimage to improve herself, and throws herself into adventure and new experiences with reckless abandon, constantly trying to challenge herself to improve. But her fun-loving attitude hides a secret, known only to a few: her steps were guided to Ignas by the words of the Guardians. So she's on a holy quest... but nobody said she couldn't have fun while she did it.

Background

Powers and Abilities

Tethelle is a Zoa Priestess. She can, with a Medium or in a shrine of power, commune with the Guardians; even elsewhere or without a Medium she is sensitive to the world around her and the balance of forces in a way most people aren't. She can call upon local spirits for minor effects, feel the tone of the world around her, and get a sense of rightness or wrongness. She is empathic enough to 'read' people surprisingly well.

Physically, a lifetime of hard physical activity has made Tethelle both very strong and vigorous. She doesn't get tired easily and has significant strength, especially in her upper body, probably from swinging her sword around under precise control. She's found that this is useful for Digging, especially when accompanied by a pair of reinforced gloves that allow her to grip and smash with great strength.

On top of that, the patron Guardian of Tethelle's village is Equites, and as a result, Tethelle has studied the sword. Extensively.

The style Tethelle uses has no recorded name. It is an ancient fighting style passed down through the Baskar of her tribe, and is claimed to have been originally formulated during the Metal Demon Wars, when it was used by the original founder of her village. There is a twenty-fifth stance dedicated to Equites, which requires intense focus and significant knowledge of the blade as well as communion through a Medium. Knowledge of how to draw upon Equites' power to use it is the most highly guarded secret of her village's priesthood.

Tethelle is the only known practitioner of this style active in the world at large, and one of very few currently living. She has been training in it since she was quite young.
