  • Date: September 13, 2017
  • Summary: Matilda organizes a group of allies to investigate rumors of a breach in the November City Plant. Things take a turn for the weird...

=========================<* November City - Plant *>==========================

The Plant that provides electric power and water to November City is on the city's outskirts. It is well-defended by the police force in November, though poorly understood. From the outside, it looks like an enormous metal structure, all latticework and steel beams, towering higher than everything except the under-construction skyscraper. The largest feature is an enormous glass bulb, with complex filament networks inside of it, which often flicker to life.

If one breaches the secured perimeter, they can enter the Plant itself. While the upper levels are safe, the lower levels are said to contain remnants of the great metal ships that descended across the Badlands in the Night of Falling Stars. Here, labrynthine networks of tunnels are said to be buried in the ground, and ARMs hidden in them might be found. Sneaking inside is difficult, but a few Drifters who have -- and returned -- claim there were riches to be found.

DG: A party led by Matilda Whitehead is now entering November City Plant.
DG: Party formation is now over. An Entry Challenge will now be drawn and displayed to the party.

At the heart of each of the Seed Cities is a Plant - a massive structure
that produces power, clean water, and other materials for use by the
residents of the city. Since they are so vital to the city's survival, they
are constantly guarded... but rumour has it that a hole has opened up in one

<Pose Tracker> Matilda Whitehead has posed.

Matilda Whitehead has a bad idea. To implement this bad idea, she's going to need friends!

Specifically: Matilda's heard a rumour that the November City Plant, normally extremely well-guarded, has a hole. Part of her is fascinated at the possibility of poking around inside... and part of her is a little worried that a breach may lead to a catastrophic event.

Accordingly, she's snapped up adventurous sorts from her usual circle of acquaintances, as well as from the local Guildhall... which brings us here, to the breach itself.

"All right -- we shouldn't take too many risks, here... we should get in, see if there's a deeper reason for this breach, and if so try to fix it. If not, well -- we can at least take the time to learn what we can..." She scootches toward the breach in the walls, glancing to her assembled pals. "Is everyone ready to move...?"

<Pose Tracker> Animal has posed.

Tagging along, Animal darts through the breach in the defenses of the plant like a bolt in the night. Swift and steady, he moves, and even throws in a cool flip, or some parkour or something of that nature, so that he looks extra-cool as he tries to get into the plant unnoticed. Turning once he has made it part way, to help and urge the others along. His hands waving a few times to try to guide them, then he is off again.
"I bet it's sand worms. Sand worms get everywhere," he says and looks back at the hole with his 'deep thinking' look. Trying to see if he can imagine the size of the sandworm, and from there, sort of guess at the size of the sandworm necessary to open the breach.
Looking at everyone who isn't the Captain, he says, "My name is Animal, by the way," in introduction and smiles politely. Lifting a hand he rubs at his head a little and then continues along into the plant proper.
"This place smells weird," he notes, eyes half-lidded, he sniffs at the smell of ozone in the air. The smell of industrial machinery and whatever else is there in the plant proper.

DG: Animal has contributed a Agility Basic Action toward his party's challenge, Hidden Entrance.
<Pose Tracker> Shalune Amira has posed.

        Shalune--...

Shalune was, let's face it, probably convinced to come this far with the use of non-specific promises around new bits of interesting technology she could look at. All that Matilda had to do was not actually mention where she was going, drop a couple of tasty tidbits to rile the young mechanic up, and then Shalune's irrepressible energy was sure to do the rest. Once the mechanic actually realized where they were headed, the idea that the PLANT might have a breach for her to fix and that would likely have carried her the rest of the way.

Still, looking at the place in front of them now, the pink-haired girl has to admit to a little trepidation. "A-ah-- this is really okay, right? Lunie, please don't time me outtt..." she burbles to herself as she guides the Little Dipper gingerly over a barbed wire fence, not wanting to go too low in case she damages the craft and not wanting to go too high in case they get spotted.

Shalune is easy to spot, after all, a brightly coloured collection of coats and sweaters - even out here in the desert, somehow unaffected by the heat - topped with long and vibrantly pink hair and a red-orange bobble hat. The craft she's using to hop the fence looks basically like a scooter, if a scooter had a wider place to stand on - and if scooters hung and hovered in the air with nothing more than a low 'thrum' from the panels on its base. Veruni technology, if you're the sort to know - if rather customized and hacked-apart by the mechanic's ability to improvise.

She exhales as she gets over one fence without raising an alarm, and glances forwards - to the next. Which is higher still. "... w-waaah..." she whines into a hand as she worries.

DG: Shalune Amira has used her Tool Little Dipper toward her party's challenge, Hidden Entrance.
<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

Layna was admittedly here out of pure curiosity. She wasn't used to the concept of electricity powering a town, and this place was where it was all generated? That was an exciting thought. And there was a breach of some kind...sure, Matilda had a good idea of maybe fixing what had caused it, but Layna was just curious to see what exactly went into a place like this to make it tick.

"Aye, lass. Lead the way." Layna says, standing by. She takes the time to look at the opening in question. They'd probably need to be quick, and stealthy, too... She could do the former, though the latter wasn't really her specialty.

"'Course it's fine! Not to worry, lass, I'll figure somethin' out if someone says somethin'." Layna replies with a grin towards Shalune.

Layna Manydays - Responsible Adult(?).

management commands, do so now. Otherwise, the next round's GM may begin the next round with +dungeon/draw.
<Pose Tracker> Matilda Whitehead has posed.

Slipping through the hole in the wall isn't hard, all truths told. Though it's reached the status of 'rumor' in the Adventurer's Guild and around town, the city itself hasn't actually moved to do anything about it yet.

"Sandworms... that would seem likely -- and would be a great reason to try to get inside and handle the issue before the city does," Matilda muses to Animal as they move in. Little Dipper, meanwhile, goes sailing over two fences one after another and then through the breach; the compounder pauses and stares for just a moment.

"Thank you, Captain," she adds to Layna, once they're all inside. "At any rate -- ah, right. Let's take a moment to orient ourselves -- and, ah, before I forget... thank you for coming, Shalune. If the breach in the wall has led to something tha needs repairs, I can't think of anyone more qualified..."

Animal feels an eye on him for just a moment as they enter -- but there's no one there. Maybe it's just one of the other party members. OR BIG SHAL. ... probably not Big Shal.

DG: Animal has drawn a new Challenge.

This elevator shaft is missing an elevator.... or rather, you can see it,
but it's smashed into pieces at the bottom, where it doesn't do anybody any
good. Looks like you may have to climb down yourself...
=Dungeon Conditions: Reckless, Bad Luck=======================================
<Pose Tracker> Animal has posed.

The ripped open wall leads to a series of hallways and the exits are innumerable. There is no one 'right way' here, but still, that gaping maw of the open elevator shaft is like the really beautiful person handing out invitations to the cool kids party in high school.
"It's always sandworms. Back to the east, it was always giant bugs, now it's either sandworms or reapers," Animal says as he comes upon the open elevator shaft and without waiting to formulate a plan with his team-mates, or to really think about whether they are even planning to go that direction. He just leaps into the open shaft, and grabs hold of the greased elevator cables.
When his hands start to rip open after sliding several dozen feet, he instead decides to start jumping from wall to wall, catching his feet on the ledges of the closed elevator doors to halt his momentum as he descends at a rapid pace.
Perhaps he is trying to outrun whatever was looking at him. Scary eyeballs.

DG: Animal has contributed a Agility Basic Action toward his party's challenge, Work the Shaft.
<Pose Tracker> Shalune Amira has posed.

Shalune does not look entirely motivated by Matilda's praise and Layna's reassurance. She does flush a little at the former, but by and large her expression is still rather worried as she nudges the Little Dipper into the PLANT's outer corridors, through the rather ragged hole in the wall. "T-To be honest, I think you might be right--" Shalune starts to say, before the odd boy in front of them has simply launched himself down the chute without preamble.

The mechanic pauses for a long moment, a little dented, and turns towards Matilda instead as if just unpausing where she left off. "The hole's weirdly shaped, y'know? I'm thinking indigenous life. Escaping steam wouldn't cause a crack like this, it doesn't seem like it follows any seams or pressurized points-- well, maybe it's just disrepair, I guess?"

When she looks over the hole down into the shaft, her expression tightens into an odd line of urgent worry. "... maybe I'll go second 'disrepair'," she mumbles, and looks up to the ceiling with a frown. "J-jeez, is it okay to keep a facility like this in this kinda condition?"

Maneuvering over the hole, she leans back to coax her hovering craft to a stop, then ever so slowly and carefully descends downwards.

DG: Shalune Amira has used her Tool Little Dipper toward her party's challenge, Work the Shaft.
<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

Layna peers over everyone, glancing down into what was once an elevator shaft and is now...still an elevator shaft, but with much less elevator before.

"...Huh. D'you think it's always been like this, or did somethin' happen recently?" She asks. Shalune seems to think that this was just due to normal disrepair. Layna's not sure what to think, there. She ran a pretty tight ship, herself, and she never would've let it get to this level if she ran it. Well, Animal's heading down, though, and now Shalune is...so the only thing left to do is go down after them!

She recites an incantation and jumps, using the wind to slow her descent and hopefully guide her to the right location.

...Does she know what she's doing? ...Someone might need to help her out. At least there's a cable there to grab onto just in case, though it apparently didn't do the elevator car any favors.

DG: Layna Manydays has contributed a Agility Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Work the Shaft.
<Pose Tracker> Matilda Whitehead has posed.

"That makes sense," Matilda replies to both Shalune and Animal. "If it's mere disrepair, that itself seems strange, though... Isn't this facility important to them?" As they head in and get a peek down the elevator shaft, though, Matilda puffs out her cheeks a little and then frowns. "Well. You certainly showed me, November City. I'll do my best to avoid giving you the benefit of the doubt in the future." She turns to Layna, adding, "That's... a good question." She can't see the wreck well enough to make a guess, at this height.

Matilda's descent is... faster, perhaps, than one might expect from the normally cautious compounder. Rather than methodically climb down, Matilda allows herself to let go and then latch on again, trading stability for speed. She has, after all, had a very good history with climbing during ruin exploration.

... if she does fail, hopefully Shalune is ready to catch her!

<Pose Tracker> Animal has posed.

Turning once he gets to the bottom, Animal watches the others descend, and stares at his palms for several seconds while they regenerate. Once they've started to fully heal over, he looks back up, just in time to spot Matilda as she starts to plummet the last twenty feet of the shaft. He immediately jumps upwards and grabs her, mid-descent, and then helps to cushion her fall with a combination of super-strength and not seemingly caring about being used as a human cushion.
Once they are back on their feet, and Layna with her air-powered descent and Shalune on Little Dipper, they are all able to turn their attention to turn their attention to the elevator doors which are several feet up off the ground back up the shaft. These prove no impediment, and soon the group is moving again, further into the facility.

DG: Layna Manydays has drawn a new Challenge.

The floor gives way, and you find yourselves sliding down a tube, before

=Dungeon Conditions: Bad Luck=================================================
<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

As the party exits the elevator, they might notice some strange things about the door they've chosen to go through. If they're keen enough, they might even get the feeling that this passageway wasn't really intended for human traversal. This becomes apparent as, somewhere in the facility, a machine triggers and the hallway shifts suddenly, dumping them down into a tube that leads into some sort of glass container. It's already filled partially with some form of orange liquid, and more of it seems to be on the way.

"Ugh, what in the world is this?" Layna says, glancing down. She felt like being stuck in this stuff for too long would be a bad idea.

"Alright, let's not stick around, aye? Give it everything you've got, me hearties!" Layna urges.

For Layna, 'everything she's got' consists of a punch toward the glass once she has her gauntlets on.

Once they were through of this there would be a round of drinks for everyone to ward off the taste and smell, but that would wait until after they were free.

DG: Layna Manydays has used her Tool Quartermaster's Stash toward her party's challenge, The Jar Is A Door.
<Pose Tracker> Shalune Amira has posed.

The Little Dipper's puttering engines seem to indicate that it's time to get off the craft once she reaches the bottom, never mind that it seems to neither have engines nor be puttering. What is happening is that the white pads on the base of the craft, usually burning with a spidery neon light, are starting to go out - and that's what propels the pink girl off the back of the craft, folding it up improbably small and then hooking it to her pack.

Of course, she appears to be the straw that breaks the camel's back, because the moment her feet hit the floor they're dumped ceremoniously into the odd receptable, a dopplering 'bwaaaaaaaaah--' indicating Shalune landing in the odd drink. It only takes her a moment to break the surface, thankfully - she has enough in the way of wiry strength to cope with this much in the way of wet clothing - but she stumbles slightly and stares fearfully up at the ceiling.

"W-wah!? What the heck?! We've gotta get out!" she blurts, immediately reaching for a thick rod at her side; a press of a button extends her staff, but it's too short compared to the bulb they're in to actually offer any pushing pressure. She dithers for a long moment - and then suddenly perks up as a thought occurs to her. "O-oh! Um! I've got some-- right! I think that'll work!"

So saying, she's gulped in some air and plunged under the water again in a sudden spray, her movements lumbering as she reaches into a pocket to pull out a plastic bag apparently filled with some kind of clay-like blob that she plasters up against the glass wall.

"Ah--" she yelps again as she breaks the surface once more. "Um! This might suck, I'm just saying, but--" she angles her staff down, and fires a shot at the grey lump underwater. Plastic explosive detonations get dampened by water. Right? Right??

DG: Shalune Amira has used her Tool Soup of the Day -Shalune Ver.- toward her party's challenge, The Jar Is A Door.
<Pose Tracker> Matilda Whitehead has posed.

Matilda proves a little too cavalier -- but in the end, things work out -- though she doesn't even get the time to say thanks and dust herself off before being thrust into a singularly gross predicament.

"... Here's hoping this doesn't have a nasty reaction with this orange goop," Matilda murmurs, reaching into her coat and pulling forth a bottle of some unspecified viscous fluid. Evidently, she thinks Shalune has, at the very least, something resembling the right idea.

She can't quite justify whipping the bottle at the glass, since they're so close... so instead, she pulls out Freischütz and loads it into the magazine slot before firing it at the glass. It sizzles and eats away at the material -- but will it be enough?

... she does make sure to get clear of Shalune's detonation. Getting blown up in a glass jar is not her idea of a good time. "Eugh -- this is... awful," she adds, as she gets a good whiff of the smell of... well, everything they're doing, really.

DG: Matilda Whitehead has used her Tool Bubble Lotion toward her party's challenge, The Jar Is A Door.
<Pose Tracker> Animal has posed.

Sticking a finger into the orange goop, Animal sniffs it and then licks it and gives a loud, 'BLECH.' He then adds, "Not good," in case anyone was curious, he does however, take another taste, and shrug a little to himself.
Getting over beside Layna, he starts to punch the glass with that astounding super-strength of his, throwing heavy punches that make the whole jar shudder slightly. As always, he punches without skill or technique, just relies on being strong and enthusiastic to inflict as much punishment as he can on the walls of the jar.
Unfortunately, he can't get the best of leverage inside of the jar, since the floor is slick with the orange goo, and he slides a little from time to time. He glances over at Shalune when she puts the piece of clay against the side of the jar, and looking curious, he asks, "What does putting dirt on it do?" very curiously, and looks like he might actually stop punching long enough to go and look at what she has done. But is thankfully distracted by Matilda's attack on the glass which sends little spiderwebs across it, enough for him to think that he should focus his attention there.
        And he starts punching again.

DG: Animal has contributed a Brute Basic Action toward his party's challenge, The Jar Is A Door.

<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

Animal and Layna hammer on the glass. It's starting to show signs of damage as they work on it, aided by Matilda's Lotion weakening its structure. The orange goo starts to hiss and bubble dangerously where any lotion comes into contact with it, but it doesn't seem to have any harmful effects on people.

Eventually, there's enough of an opening that when Shalune detonates her explosive the entire capsule just splits open, dropping the party down to the floor in a flood of the bothersome orange fluid.

Layna gets to her feet and removes her hat from her head, flicking it through the air a few times to remove some of the liquid from it before affixing it right back to where it should be.

"...I need a drink after that one. If anyone else wants one, holler." She says, reaching into her coat and grabbing a bottle. She uncorks it and starts to drink as she moves forward.

DG: Shalune Amira has drawn a new Challenge.

<Pose Tracker> Shalune Amira has posed.

Shalune comes rolling out of the fluid in something of a soggy ball; she lies there for a long moment, trying to work up the energy to move and just emitting a low and mournful 'bwaaa--...' of noise. "I feel gross," she summarily announces as she picks herself up off the floor. "My bag is gonna take ages to dry! And Lunie's gonna totally know I went somewhere sketchy!"

... that's what you're worried about, most of all? Still, it is kind of a pressing matter, given the sheer destructive power of Lunie-timeouts.

It takes her a while to pull herself up to her feet, her clothing annoying in how heavily it sags on her all of a sudden; she makes a face, and turns to scan for the party, and--

--comes face to face with a goat, of all things, freezing on the spot as its eyes regard her with what might be intelligence or madness. Immediately, Shalune's hands begin to raise - thankfully, very slowly. "A-ah-- ah, um--" she blurts after a moment. "Nice-- goat?"

At the first scream, she's clamped her hands over her ears and danced backwards, her own "Waaaaah--!" joining the noise.

<Pose Tracker> Animal has posed.

Wiping off the orange goo, Animal walks along with the others. He takes the offered drink from the captain, to wash down the taste of orange in his mouth, and then hands the bottle back with a light, "Thank you captain."
Just as he has managed to get the last of the goop off of his shins and out from between his toes, he spots the goat, and immediately knows what he has to do. He and the goat come eye to eye, and the two suddenly spring at each other, slamming their heads into each other. The sound of their collision can be heard for whole tens of feet!
With a grunt, Animal leaps atop the goat then, wrangles his legs around its lower abdomen, and wraps his hands around its horns.
        "You will be mine!"
The goat bucks and shakes, and tries to dislodge the grappling young teenager, throwing a serious tantrum of 'bleets' as it hits the walls and spins in circles like a mad top. The whole while, Animal wrestles with the in-goat-ly strong goat, and the two end up on the ground.
Only finally on the ground, does Animal turn himself sideways and using his strength, he simply lifts the goat up off the ground. "Ha-ha!" he exclaims. Temporarily victorious. Reaching into his pocket, he pulls out some cheese and bread, and a piece of tin, and each thing, he offers to the goat, its head up above his own, held off the ground. No matter how the goat struggles, it can't get free of the super strong boy's grip. But perhaps it won't be tamed..
"Help me tame it!" he tells the others.

DG: Animal has used his Tool Lucky Headband toward his party's challenge, Hypnogoat.
<Pose Tracker> Matilda Whitehead has posed.

The goat screams at Matilda -- and, truthfully, Matilda has no ready defense. She staggers back, visibly dizzied, before she even has the presence of mind to comment on or meaningfully respond to it.

Matilda has actually seen a lot of goats in her lifetime, and even touched some of them! She knows what a goat is supposed to act and sound like. This, unfortunately, is not a goat -- and maybe it's for that reason that she seems particularly ill-affected by the scream, and the subsequent wave of mental energy.

She scrambles away for a few steps, but actually ends up dropping to her knees -- first covering her ears, and then not covering her ears. She doesn't respond to Animal's requests for assistance. ... honestly, she doesn't respond to much of anything for a few seconds. For Matilda, this battle lies within!

DG: Matilda Whitehead has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Hypnogoat.
<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

...There's a goat here.

Layna stares.

...Why was there a goat here? How long has a goat been here?

Before her train of thought can go any further, it lets out a horrific wail and she recoils back, clapping her hands over her ears. But...it was as if the sound was inside her head.

And Animal...wants to tame it!? Maybe being more in tune with nature made him immune to its mental effects?

"Aye, lad! Just...tell me what to do!" She says, inching closer while gritting her teeth. She...had no idea if this would even work.

<Pose Tracker> Shalune Amira has posed.

The goat locks horns with Animal - metaphorically, as well as literally! Backed up by Layna, the battle begins to rage for dominance, their strengths equally matched as the two of them continue to roll and circle, attached to each other with a strong grip. For all their combined strength, however, the frenzied goat appears to be indefatigable; time and time again it manages to nearly wrest free of Animal's hold, repeatedly shoulder-checking Layna away from it.

A final wrench and tug, combined with another of those piercing psychic screams, is what puts paid to the attempt; the pair are blasted backwards and away from the goat, who does a little victory scamper on the spot as its hooves hit the ground of the plant.

... it-- actually seems happier, all of a sudden. Perhaps it just wanted some space, and was spooked by a drenched pink blob and Matilda's proximity? Perhaps it's feeling high and mighty having won over two Drifters? Whatever the case, it bleats a couple more times, and then wanders down a nearby corridor in something of a strut.

DG: Animal has drawn a new Challenge.

=Dungeon Conditions: Tire=====================================================
<Pose Tracker> Animal has posed.

Having left the goat behind, Animal says, "I wanted a pet goat. He hurt my head, but then we headbutted and I couldn't hear anymore!" he tells them somewhat loudly, as he is apparently still dealing with the recent head injury. Rubbing at the back of his head a little, he massages the back of his neck and the bridge of his nose. "So then we wrestled, and I think I could have beat him, but I was trying not to break him," he explains calmly.
Looking at the room full of crates, he starts to pry them open, and starts sorting through the random 'treasures' of the plant facility.
The treasures of the plant facility being a lot of heavy machinery which is utterly worthless, unless you're incredibly mechanically inclined and have a desire to repair a plant and its various auxiliary systems. Once he is certain that they aren't filled with money, he shrugs at the others, and starts to just push around a bunch of the crates. Demonstrating his super-strength.
Once they've cleared a bit of the area on this side of the crates, he actually makes sure they're clear back the way they came, and starts throwing crates over their heads, making a pile of crates behind them, which will only serve to force them to continue forward.
"Maybe I could buy a goat. They have milk, and that way I don't have to pay for it in town."

DG: Animal has contributed a Brute Basic Action toward his party's challenge, Inevitable Crate Puzzle.
<Pose Tracker> Matilda Whitehead has posed.

Groaning as she stands back up, Matilda murmurs, "I -- errgh... I feel like I totally missed that," with a shake of her head. Animal brings her up to speed, though, and she gives him a nod and a smile. "Thank you for explaining."

She shuffles forward with newfound haste, looking to the crates -- and hopping to one side as Animal chucks one behind them. It's at that point that she reaches an actual frown. "Ah -- isn't that a little... hasty? Surely we could try to create a path that goes through both ways, instead of blocking ourselves off -- though I suppose after that earlier fall, we'll have to find a new way out anyway..."

Matilda, for her part, starts knocking on crates until she finds a hollow one, then uses some more of that lotion from earlier, still loaded into Freischütz. If she dissolves an empty crate, then there's more room to move the other crates around! Brilliant, beautiful, iconic. "Ah -- you realize you would have to feed and care for the goat, though, yes? You don't simply... passively acquire milk by having a goat. You would also need a lady goat to have milk."

Matilda tries to keep herself from sounding too condescending or patronizing, but a little of it might slip through. To her, this is the most basic thing imaginable.

DG: Matilda Whitehead has used her Tool Bubble Lotion toward her party's challenge, Inevitable Crate Puzzle.
<Pose Tracker> Shalune Amira has posed.

It's taking a while for Shalune's heart rate to come down in the wake of the goat; she lets out a relieved breath as she sags, stumbling forwards - and into a realm of crates and boxes, gaping in open curiosity at some of them. "O-okay, goats and glass bulbs aside, this is a lot more like what I was expectin', you know?" she burbles as she steps forwards, still rather damp - especially her long hair, which is turning out to be kind of a detriment to getting dunked in orange yuk.

Still, she spies the general layout of the warehouse, bunkers down in front of one of the crate stacks - and applies effort to it with one shoulder, slowly heaving the stack out of the way. She's not nearly as fast as Animal is, but she is remarkably strong for her diminuitive size, and apparently quite used to hauling and lugging crates back and forth.

She's even-- whistling. "Ehehe," she breaks through her own jaunty tune. "Been ages since I did this sorta work, y'know?"

DG: Shalune Amira has contributed a Brute Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Inevitable Crate Puzzle.
<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

Layna's kind of smarting after all of that. It necessitates another dose of that most magical elixir of all - booze. Once they're done dealing with the goat - or rather, once the goat is done dealing with them - they move on. There looks to be...some kind of weird puzzle? Honestly, after everything that had happened, Layna wasn't in the mood for playing by the plant's rules.

Fortunately, the others seem to be in tune with that idea, by tossing them and generally giving them less annoyances to deal with. She joins in as well...

Though one could maybe get the idea that this was just a warehouse and not actually meant to be a puzzle? ...But that's a crazy idea.

DG: Layna Manydays has used her Tool Quartermaster's Stash toward her party's challenge, Inevitable Crate Puzzle.

"A girl goat? Isn't a girl goat just a sheep?" Animal asks, curiously.
Throwing stacks of crates aside with abandon, Animal may be as strong as a truck, but his idiotic choices in what to throw where and when results in more of a headache than it does in actually helping them through the task. The other three are far better judges at actually getting things out of their way, and through their combined wits and strength, they manage to get the group of drifters through the warehouse with its oddly placed crates, and into the next hallway.
"Why would someone put so many crates in one place? How do you get to your crates if its all blocked off like that?" he asks the others curiously.

<Pose Tracker> Matilda Whitehead has posed.

"No -- sheep are a different animal," Matilda says, with a shake of her head. "Same family and subfamily, differing at the genus. They can breed, but geep are rarely born healthy. Most are stillborn..." She lets out an awkward laugh before noting, "My great-grandparents tried, once."

Shalune's surprisingly easy work gets a smile out of Matilda. "You -- have fun doing this sort of thing? For me it's... nostalgic, I suppose, but also a little..." She pauses. "When I was little we would move bushels around, and sometimes I'd climb on top while Father hauled the whole thing to the cart."

She manages not to make herself sad at this point -- and avails herself of a little of Layna's alcohol. Perfect.

Unfortunately, right there on the other side of the door once they get through... November City police. They're ready, thanks to the staggering amount of noise made in the warehouse -- and firing before anyone can even get a word in edgewise!

"Ah -- it looks like they won't take an explanation! Be careful, everyone!" Matilda says, throwing a bottle of something noxious out of her coat and then loading Freischütz with rocks. After a moment of fiddling, she starts firing -- it's a low-velocity setting, more designed to bruise and stun than cause lasting harm.

<Pose Tracker> Shalune Amira has posed.

The first indicator that Shalune knows they're in trouble is a lost and surprised yelp, and the girl suddenly throwing herself against the wall and hiding her face. She's at least smart enough to realize that her look is rather distinctive, and she'd rather not be spotted if she can help it! The Carakin has enough troubles, between religious hardliners and the Gears they've got travelling alongside the caravan! Weeeehhh!

"Wah, Matilda--!" she blurts halfway, looking astonished at the sudden burst of impromptu scattershot - though once she realizes the botanist's intention she's bitten at her lip and pressed a button on her staff, once more elongating the long rod of white metal out into a long shaft. Immediately, one end starts to glow in a dangerous fashion, and the shape that was previously a handlebar at the top of one end of the staff begins to slowly rotate around the core.

"W-we're so gonna be in trouble--" she whines as she braces, and the staff suddenly spits a bolt of light forwards.

DG: Shalune Amira has contributed a Combat Basic Action toward her party's challenge, I Fought The Law.
<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

Layna pauses when she sees a group of rather angry looking individuals rounding the corner in front of them. Well then. She can't help but grin. It had been far too long since she'd had anything to do with the local law enforcement. The closest thing to that she'd done was that brief run-in with White Knight Leo at Bunker's Lounge...and even then, he hadn't recognized her, since his focus was elsewhere.

She rushes in, a maniacal grin on her face...

But rather than attempting to punch, she slips behind the group, slides an arm around the shoulders of one of the officers, produces a bottle, and holds it out to them.

"Come on now, lads, is this any way to act? We're not hurting anything...so why don't we just go our seperate ways, aye? No one has to get hurt here." She urges. If the booze doesn't do the job though, her rather tight grip might...she clearly meant business, and was in a prime position to move the officer she'd selected defensively.

DG: Layna Manydays has contributed a Combat Basic Action toward her party's challenge, I Fought The Law.
<Pose Tracker> Animal has posed.

"Genus? They don't seem that smart to me," Animal says to Matilda.

Spotting the local fuzz, Animal leaps as soon as he spots them, tries to pull a Yarobeleedt off of a wall along the way by jumping off of it to keep from getting hit by their small ARMs fire, and ends up landing on top of several of them who had taken cover from the return fire in an adjacent room. Inside of the office room, he slams the first officer into a wall with enough force to be seen in the hallway as the wall buckles outward from the force.
The first officer downed, he leaps for another. Taking several shots to the torso in the process which only serve to slow him slightly, while several other shots hit his rather plain looking deep green vest. The vest is apparently bullet-proofed, as it doesn't even get dimpled by the small ARMs fire.
Punching the second officer, he knocks him into the third, and with at least two of them downed, he emerges back out into the hallway, trying to avoid the attacks of his team-mates as he charges back towards them, and throws a shoulder into a doorway half-way along the hallway. Bursting it open, he charges through and calls out, "This way!" and will hold the door behind them, as they continue forward.

"O-oh--" chimes Shalune as she bobbles into the final room; she might offer more than that, but she's still clutching at her chest as she tries to catch her breath, uncertain whether she wants to break out into beady sympathetic 'bwaaaa' tears or not. At least this room is relatively peaceful, offering them all a chance to stop and get their bearings--

--and of course Shalune gravitates towards the odd crane, peering over the edge to try to get a sense of what might be down in the pit proper. Somehow, their old objective of 'try to repair the breach' seems very far off - in fact, given the whole affair with the bulb, she can't help but quietly wonder whether they've caused more damage than they've fixed. I-it's fine. Right? I-it's fine.

        ... uguu...

At least she can help out somehow, though. Her eyes fix on the crane, frowning a little as she observes the way the enormous battery on the back sparks and shorts and generally looks in terrible shape. Here, at least, she can help out - and maybe reverse a little of the karma she's surely built up from this trip.

"U-um, give me a sec - there's gotta be a way to do this better," she decides as she hops onto the back of the crane, fussing as she carefully checks the battery over. Perhaps this is why she's always wearing thick clothes - the occasional spark doesn't seem to phase her, thankfully, as she works to squeeze just a little more juice from the battery to aid in their attempt.

<Pose Tracker> Animal has posed.

Holding the door closed to the hallway they'd come through, Animal spots a fire-axe in a nearby case and smashes it open, pulls out the axe, and jams the door closed so that they aren't immediately being chased by the November City law enforcement.
Following the others to the crane, he looks down at the crate when the others seem to try to haul the crate up. "What's in the crates? More machine stuff?" he asks of the others as he eyes the controls, and watches Shalune fuss with the machinery atop the control arm.
        A pause.
Rubbing his headband a little, he reaches out and points at one of the controls, and says, "I think you need to go forward a little further," to whoever is operating the controls. "I hope it's treasure."

DG: Animal has used his Tool Lucky Headband toward his party's challenge, Crane Game.
<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

Layna deposits the bottle in the guard's hand...then roughly pushes them away into the wall before following after the others. She slips in just as Animal bars the door, then offers him a grin of approval before looking to the machine in question.

"Ah, I've not seen one of these in a while...this is a crane, aye? But it looks a lot fancier than the one's back home..." She says, moving in to sit at the controls. Fortunately, her experience with the Corsair had made her more familiar with this sort of thing.

She draws her telescope from her waist and looks over, her eyes eventually landing on that she gets a good, treasure-y feeling from.

"Aye, me too lad, me too." She agrees with a nod and, if someone else doesn't volunteer to take the controls instead, she'll try to go for it. If they do, she'll use the telescope to guide them.

"Keep it goin' steady, lass!" She says with a nod toward Shalune, as she tries to give them just a little more power.

DG: Layna Manydays has used her Tool Captain's Telescope toward her party's challenge, Crane Game.
<Pose Tracker> Matilda Whitehead has posed.

Matilda is not far behind when it comes to the crane; once she manages to catch her breath, she hops oh-so-helpfully up toward Shalune, getting a better glimpse of both the spherical device at the heart of the Plant and the myriad crates below them. "Well -- it looks like the center itself is in no danger, at least," Matilda reflects.

She looks at the battery a little more closely, trying to call to mind what she read in the book Riesenlied gave her. "... Honestly -- this is a little out of my league," she says, shrugging off her coat. "Nevertheless -- if anything in my coat would be of use to you in repairing the battery, please feel free to make use of it."

Matilda -- who has a very different look to her in just the metallic armor beneath her coat, and the fabric layer that holds it together -- hops up into the crane, or more accurately hops up next to Layna on the crane, hanging from the side and taking a peek. She does not backseat drive, but she does note, "You'll want to ease it up -- it's like fishing... too much and the line will snap."

In the heart of the Plant is a huge chamber with a giant spherical device at
its centre. There are no noticeable ways of accessing or entering it. Next
to the sphere, however, is a giant crane machine with a crane that dangles
down into the darkness... where a series of large crates can be seen.

The crane only has power for one attempt, but if you manage to pull out a
crate, its contents will be yours for the taking.

Juuuuuuuuuuuust as the crane is about to deposit your crate on the platform,
it slips and the crate tumbles back down into the darkness. After it lands,
you swear you hear a female voice softly humming a short theme
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Jz1TjCphXE). But when you turn around,
there is no one and nothing there.

This is a pretty weird mystery!
=Dungeon Conditions: Treasure=================================================
<Pose Tracker> Animal has posed.

Lifted from the darkness, the crate is like a shiny beacon of hope. It is daintily set upon the platform, and through the thin slats, a shiny golden hue can be seen within. Luminous and powerful, whatever is within, it casts light across the platform and all fears are chased from the drifters. Their hearts lightened.
And then the claw 'accidentally' knocks the crate back into the darkness as it retreats to its default position, knocking the crate off to the accompaniment of some strange ghostly voice humming out the bizarre theme.
        Shocked silence follows.
"I don't understand this place at all! It's like it was built by crazy people!" Animal exclaims in exasperation and throws his hands up in the air when the crate tumbles off into the darkness. He'd like to be more upset about it, but can't be. At least he doesn't know what the treasure was, that'd make him really upset.
Stomping his feet, he heads towards the nearest exit. Steaming a little.

<Pose Tracker> Matilda Whitehead has posed.

"Well..." Matilda murmurs. "We discerned that there was no damage to the central mechanism, and most likely, the reason for the hole outside was probably that goat..." She tries to be helpful and conciliatory -- but the truth is, she's a little disappointed, too.

She looks down into the pit forlornly, and then says, "I -- suppose it's time to find our way out, yes? Thank you all for indulging my worry, at any rate... I'm sorry we came so close to a payoff for all of this, only to lose it."

She's... trying hard not to think about that ghostly voice for the moment. Maybe she'll ask around about it.

<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

Layna veeery carefully works to maneuver the crate onto solid land, but just as she's starting to lower it...the controls jerk suddenly, sending the crate crashing into the darkness. Layna sits there quietly for a few seconds then glances behind herself.

...The door was still barred by that axe, right...? She glances toward Animal and then quietly stands, taking her telescope and placing it back onto her belt.

"So, uhh...any of you hear that, or was it just me?" She asks, looking around at the three present.

Or...was there possibly a fourth...? It was a little unnerving. For all intents and purposes, they appeared alone.

<Pose Tracker> Matilda Whitehead has posed.

"I -- I definitely heard that," Matilda volunteers. "I was -- trying to put it out of my mind, but..." She shivers. "I don't know." She is not forthcoming with much more.
