Weeks ago, Sin visited the seaside village of Kilika.

Since then, various groups have taken on restoration efforts ranging from
local Yevon and Crusader groups, the Althenan Guard, as well as the Wayside
Outreach just to name a few. You and your Drifter group have come today to
Kilika on one of the ships inbound for its port as part of such efforts. As
your vessel draws into port, you quickly discover a problem:

The cargo manifests have gotten mixed up during the voyage.

A large stack of papers lie before you, of manifests past and future, of
shipping orders large and small. Workers are awaiting their orders -- you'll
have to figure out what relief supplies are intended to be delivered where
 in Kilika!

<Pose Tracker> Riesenlied has posed.

In the coming days, the Wayside Outreach has been involved with the efforts at Kilika. And the Fereshte has been making frequent trips to and from Luca and other major ports at Spira. Today is no different, and Riesenlied -- following her ailing state after the Operation Mi'ihen at Mushroom Rock Road -- has decided to return to their base ship to recuperate...

But today isn't a day for recuperation.

Today, Riesenlied's promised to Noeline, Janey, Mikaia and others onboard that she's going to have a good day.

A Good, Walking Day!

As is the ritual when she has Walking Days, she has to take a big dose of Jacqueline's medicines to help bolster her body to make it possible; it's something of a workaround but she brushes that under the table because the experience helps her emotional and mental mood.

"I--I'm going to try," Riesenlied stammers as she places her hands ontop of the armrests of her chair. "Here... I... go..."

Her scaled, draconic feet touch the deck of the Fereshte, and she slowly lifts herself up; it's a wobbly and trembling thing, full of deep gasps and effort. Her legs are entirely not human anymore and her problem of balance has been something that months of physical therapy have helped with, but she's still working on it.

"A-almost, almost..." she wobbles and steps forward, flailing her hand a little and--

OOPS

She starts to buckle inwards and accidentally knocks her arm against the nearby provisioning desk and a whole pile of papers flies all around as she yelps and reaches for the nearest person -- Noeline probably -- for help.

Oh no, the cargo manifests...!

<Pose Tracker> Elhaym van Houten has posed.

ELLY VAN HOUTEN got on the boat and left the immediate area around Operation Mi'ihen because it's not like *she* is on some kind of Road Trip To Death. Hell she has a giant scab on her brain. She helped. Now she took a nap.

The nap was on the way back. (Elly can be a little frail in some ways but anyone from Etrenank can probably sleep on any kind of ship. Otherwise you would have died as a child from lack of snooze.)

Now, she is emerging onto the deck, her eyes narrowing into the breeze, the spiran sunlight bright now that she gave away her hat and -

A large piece of manifest slaps her in the face.

Elly spreads out her arms. Soon enough she begins catching other papers.

"mmf" She waggles her fingers, since she can hear Riesenlied's voice...!

<Pose Tracker> Noeline has posed.

Noeline is hovering protectively at Riesenlied's shoulder. As much as she manages to project an image of confidence, she can't help but fret a little at times like these, as Riesenlied's mutations continue to affect her daily life. It isn't a dire portent sort of worry - Noeline has a lot more faith than that - but more a hoverhandsing fuss that's a little unlike her the rest of the time.

She tries to keep it down, knowing that her own mood can affect Riesenlied's - and that Janey probably wouldn't let her forget going Full Fuss any time soon - and instead bolsters herself as she puffs out a breath and stands ready to catch her partner should she fall. "Alright. You can do this," she hums in response, and here her voice is full of conviction. Riesenlied's been through so much more; this surely will be worked through in time.

"Very good," she encourages when the Hyadean pulls herself up, and squints a little as she studies her partner's stance. "Try to lean forward, but only a little..."

She's already moving by the time the other woman yelps, the sense of alarm over their link enough to spur her forwards to grasp for-- to duck low and try to support Riesenlied's torso with her arm, realizing midway that grabbing an arm is probably a great way to accidentally wrench it. It means she too skids into the desk, but at least it's in a way that will cushion her partner's fall onto her lap - and she half-heartedly grabs for a bundle of paper before the wind can take it, for good measure.

"... almost," she says with warm encouragement once she's sure she's got Riesenlied safe and secure, patting the blonde on the head.

<Pose Tracker> Marivel Armitage has posed.

Fei is eager to take it easy. He can't fight every bloody threat to the universe now can he? He is taking a nap and has pampered Elly to the best of his ability. He has elected to take a nap too, but he is a far deeper sleeper. So he's a sleepin'--

"Ahh--after I had gone to so much trouble getting it in order." A cheerful but, let's face it, mildly sassy voice quips as the owner of that voice, Marivel Armitage, snatches pages out of the air in a single smooth motion. "Still, in the words of M. Armitage, wasted effort is not always effort wasted."

She looks towards Noeline for a bit, exhaling a faint huff of breath before a pleasant smile sticks to her face. "It's good to see you again. I thought I could use some of the work I enjoy doing after having to do so much of the work I despise doing. Would it be too much of a problem for you--" She pauses a moment, quirking her mouth. "--for you three to help me around town? That surly medic who was looking for his brother's sword was quite helpful but he was complaining the whole time. I think the experience would be much more enjoyable with those whose heads have not made it up their own arse."

She taps her index finger against her cheek, tilting her head. "We can take our time, of course and I would not wish to push you beyond your limits, Riesenlied, but I know the town would be very excited to see you make an appearance."

she gives another thoughful gaze towards Elly, peering at her face for a moment. Or at least her face blocked by manifest if she has left it there.

"And perhaps we could converse a bit of other problems in the town slipping through the cracks." The kind Marivel prefers to chase after it seems.

DG: The party led by Riesenlied has passed this challenge! The party gained 20 exploration! If anyone needs to use party management commands, do so now. Otherwise, the next round's GM may begin the next round with +dungeon/draw.

<Pose Tracker> Riesenlied has posed.

Riesenlied was very happy, of course, to take Fei and Elly on in -- she's less and less sure about Leon's state and how he took Vinsfeld's words, so she's been trying to pick up the slack to at least shelter the Black Wolves during their time in Spira... even if Josephine's continued absence is a worry for her. Not that she'd only house Elly and Fei because they're Wolves. They're her friends!

Elly manages to snag several pages of the manifest, which include, mysteriously, cucco doodles on it.

Noeline leaps and catches her as she falls and she winds up on her lap; there's a flush as she stammers, "S-sorry... almost. I'll, I'll manage it this time," even as she admits it's a bit cozy for them to be lying down like this, but...

It's Walking Day!

But Marivel appears as she snags a page and Riesenlied brightly lights up for a moment. "We've got a day ahead of us to help the town, so I would not mind going together." She takes a deeper breath and helps herself up again, slowly and with Noeline's effort...

Easy, easy...

Take it easy ne...

And she's finally upright, if a bit wobbly and holding onto the railing as she shuffles through the notes and double-checks her work. Just as the boat pulls up onto Kilika's rudimentary docks in the wake of Sin's attack.

"Yes...!" she smiles brightly.

DG: Noeline has drawn a new Challenge.

================ <* CHALLENGE - Tales of Sin - the Complete Edition *>=============
|Type: Exploration |Dungeon Ability: Wits |Challenge Rating: 1 |
--------------------------==== < Challenge Information: >--------------------------
You see several workers and villagers gathering around a warm fire during
their break. There are a mixture of Kilikans, Guardsmen, Outreach and the
Azadians amongst them; they seem to be bonding with their experiences in
 engaging Sin.

Several turn to you to beckon for you to come and rest as well. "Do you have
any tales of Sin of your own?"

If you were present, you could relay some of the tales of encountering Sin
in Azado or Mi'ihen Highroad, or any others that may come to mind. It is a
grim tale, but perhaps there is value in bonding over what befell this
 village.
=Dungeon Conditions: Save Point===============================================

<Pose Tracker> Noeline has posed.

Noeline returns Marivel's glance with a staid and deadpan sort of expression. "I dare say we can manage something like that well enough. If nothing else, we need to check what's next on the list of necessary supplies - there's an unavoidable lag when you're doing everything by ship, and making this take to the air would probably make things that much longer given the number of questions we'd have to answer."

For all that her response is serious enough, there's a quiet amusement in her eyes, given she's delivering it bumped up against the desk leg with Riesenlied in her lap. It doesn't take long for her attention to swing back to Riese, of course: "It's alright," she soothes gently. "There is no pressure. Just do what you feel you can."

Carefully, she helps lift Riesenlied back up to a sitting position - then takes hold of her hand as her other arm goes properly around her partner's waist, bringing them both gently up to standing. This isn't cheating as far as she's concerned; it would be rather unfair to expect Riesenlied to be able to lift herself up given her current balance problems, after all.

By the time they make it down the gangplank, one of Riesenlied's hands secure in her own and a walking stick offered for the other, many of the Azadians have filtered out of the Fereshte. Eager to help a town that has faced a similar fate to their own, they've joined the Outreach in offloading the ship, several teams offloading timber and provisions and distributing them forwards.

Others are clumped in groups as they offer hope, solace, and advice to the survivors of the attack; the trail into the town proper leads past a small circle of people clustered around a fire, over which some food is being heated for those in need. The Fereshte is apparently the topic of choice, because as Noeline nears with Riesenlied at her side, the Kilikans look up at the latter in mild awe.

"You've all faced Sin? More than once?" one man mumbles, leaving Noeline to chuckle softly in response. "We have. Everyone here understands something of what you're feeling. That's exactly why we offer our help."

<Pose Tracker> Riesenlied has posed.

"It is lovely... to see the Fereshte move through the oceans, though," Riesenlied expresses gently. "Lydia and everyone has done so much to make it seaworthy. I remember when that was a distinct fear, when we first made the trek back to Elru."

The Hyadean Tainted looks a bit dazed as she wobbles again and keeps her hands held to Noeline, steadied around the hand on her waist with a brief stint of labored breathing. "Hehe. I did it... let's bring the chair with us, though, just in case?"

The gangplank is a bit more treacherous for her, but she looks warmly towards the nearby Azadians as she waves and moves towards a gathered assortment of villagers, Azadians and even the Guardsmen. "Um--"

There's a faint fluster as she looks over to where the food is being served and briefly wobblewalks to help dish them out.

"We aided the survivors at Mushroom Rock Road. But... that's right. The first time was at Azado..." she looks to some of the Azadians in the group. "We helped the brave people who now, I'm happy to say, have turned it around and helped make this relief work possible. Thank you, everyone..."

She's being a bit reticient, Elly and Marivel can both tell. Sin and Azado are still topics that make her extremely anxious, as proud as she empathically is about its people.

<Pose Tracker> Elhaym van Houten has posed.

e a s y

Elly may be vaguely nostalgiac to Marivel, beyond their shared adventure. Perhaps not, though. As paper is gathered up when the breeze fades, Elly walks closer, and she hands it over, saying as she does, with a laugh, "I'd like to come along, if you're alright with that." She glances momentarily at Noeline, just in case this is Couple Time.

"Good afternoon to you too," Elly says to Marivel - before faltering for a moment at Marivel's suggestion.

How many problems can one small town have, Elly thinks.

The peril of a sweet summer child.

As they walk down, moving together, a Kilikan asks - if they've faced Sin.

Elly tightens up.

Then she makes herself relax. Breathing out, she says to the man, "Yes. But..."

How to put this? she thinks. Elly sucks on her teeth for a moment in thought. If she just says what seems to be the case, that I drove one of their 'machina' against Sin, they'll just... They'll get upset. They might take it out on Riesenlied and Noeline, too. (Elly has the faint feeling that Marivel can take care of herself in the face of hostile villagers, though she can't articulate it.)

"... My people are from Filgaia," Elly says, then, looking at the group. "You've heard of it, I know. Some of us have partners who fight with us in battle... great beasts. We call them 'Gears'."

Elly pauses for a moment, as if struggling.

"I tried to use my Gear, Vierge, to fight Sin. Sin had gone across the sea. I imagine you've heard about that... this was the city of Azado, in the lands to the West. Our Gears are many sharls - like yards - high, they're very massive. And yet compared to Sin, Vierge was --"

Elly struggles for a moment, looking at the sky. "All Vierge's height and breadth and speed could do, is show to me how powerful Sin is. How massive. It's so enormous, you must be able to see it from space." Whatever that is.

She looks back to the people. "I was lucky," she says. "I survived. ... I can't imagine how hard it must be, to have lived in that shadow for so terribly long..."

<Pose Tracker> Marivel Armitage has posed.

"Excellent! Then onward, towards the adventure of our lifetimes...!" Marivel points off to the distance too dramatically for anybody's good. "We will lift the spirits up of the town whether they want to be or not!"

It turns out that one small town can have a lot of problems. Even before it is devastated by a whale of a natural disaster. She does not share any details about it as of yet, though, as she listens to Riesenlied's work along hte Mushroom Rock Road. ARMS engaged in similar work during our escape to Guadosalam! I'll have you know that we were harried by the villainous Odessa all the while! I am but one bloodsucker, I can only do...so much...!"

She winks at Noeline before her tone goes more casual, "Worry not, Riesenlied. We will move at your pace. Tis not a challenge to rush, after all."

They reach the fire and she gives Elly another look, and a smaller nod. Whatever she recognized can wait.

"I have only faced Sin once," Marivel says, placing a hand on her chest. "I was having lunch and Sin sat themselves down at the table across from me. I thought 'I should pay Sin a visit! Perhaps I can learn why Sin does what he does!"

She then points a finger towards the man who brought this up. "And Sin told me, 'Well gosh, nobody ever asks me that. They just sort of assume why. And I am like 'Oh, that sounds terrible Sin...!'"

She brings her hand back. "Sin understood and nodded it's very large head at me. Always seeking sympathy, that Sin...!" She places her hands on her hips.

"Well you know what he told me? Why he does what he does?" She cocks her head towards the side, cupping outward from her ear.

"'I dunno,' Sin said. "Why do you do what you do?"

She places her hand on her cheek. "I had to admit to him then and there, that I was not entirely sure myself! Certainly, I could give one or two explanations, but were they true? Or were they simply what I wished were true?" She then grins, fangedly. "Did it even matter?"

"This was a completely true story," She adds.

<Pose Tracker> Noeline has posed.

Noeline's eyebrows raise up as she glances at Elly; she puffs out a breath, looking a little ruffled - though not in any serious fashion. "It is hardly as if you need to ask me for permission," she grumbles in a good-natured way. "I am not the sort to be /that/ possessive that I'd deny someone a walk around town, surely?" A beat, and she's definitely not serious when she blithely flicks out a little hair and adds: "Besides, saying no would only encourage our other guest."

That jokiness slips away as she helps Riesenlied down the ramp; she can't help but chuckle warmly after her partner speaks, though she saves her response for after she's hopped back up to bring the chair along. "I have to admit, it's rather thrilling. Even if we're only doing supply runs, having your own ship is a vastly different feeling to chartering one," she agrees.

At least Noeline seems to sympathize with Marivel's tale of Odessa hounding them, though perhaps 'sympathize' is the wrong word. The thought of Vinsfeld's speech makes her huff in obvious irritation, before she breaks into a quiet and toothy grin; the Crimson Noble's claim of only being able to do so much seems to the Hyadean to be perhaps a little suspect.

The Kilikans are obviously a little lost by part of Elly's explanation. A couple of them falter at the term 'Filgaia', and the term 'Gears' - rumours have filtered through even here - but the outlook here is a practical one, and the woman's feelings plain to hear. One by one, the villagers quietly offer their thanks in return, making the sign of Yevon as the bow their heads.

Marivel's tale is a harder one to swallow, especially when it's a little difficult for the Kilikans to take in; she gets a couple of uncertain looks from some of the adults, but it's the children who respond to her much better, going along with the tale. "--did you really?" gapes a young boy, his eyes wide as saucers; a girl stamps her foot. "I hope you told it to stop being mean!"

Riesenlied's reticence is understandable - Noeline draws a little closer to her, sharing thoughts with her before moving to help in handing out food. It isn't just the other Hyadean who notices it, but the Azadians and Kilikans as well - and something about Riesenlied's empathic nature makes them respond with concern and kind words of their own. It's a warm scene, though-- well, perhaps it slows down recovery efforts a little. But it contributes a whole other kind of recovery, instead. DG: Elhaym van Houten has drawn a new Challenge.

<Pose Tracker> Elhaym van Houten has posed.

The story time passes. Elly seems a little saggy afterwards. The memory -

Crashing, descending. Systems failing. The invincible technology that has born and sheltered her, the stone on which she could build her life even if she left it behind. The works of the great and holy empire. One strike. It was nothing.

Five meters fore or aft of where she was and she wouldn't be here today.

- isn't a good one.

Elly then murmurs thanks and listens to Marivel's tale, to which she smiles, just a little.

"say," says one Kilikoid, "You want to help us put up old Bonfo's house?"

"I'm Old Bonfo," says a 15 year old, raising a hand.

"... then who is..." Elly begins to ask, before the first speaker - a hunched man, hale but impaired - says, "Me! I'm Young Bonfo."

Elly glances back at Riesenlied and Noeline at this.

SOON.

Old Bonfo stands in what's going to be the attic loft in a few minutes. "Okay! You see that rope you got there?! Just everyone grab hold of it and when we sing out we're gonna pull it up and that whole wood frame's gonna come on up! That's when uh, that dude,"

Griz, the Cool Monk, shoulders a big hammer and grins toothily, raising a handful of wooden pegs which will no doubt serve the place of nails.

"Is gonna - uh -"

"I'M GONNA POUND IT"

"He's gonna pound it. In."

"POUNDIN' IT!"

"Anyway, uh, then the house is done! So if you can just kinda take your positions here..."

"Pounding it," Elly says, a little glassily. Then she reaches into her hip bag and pulls out a pair of souvenier blitzer gloves, pulling them on. Hey, they've got real leather grips!

DG: Elhaym van Houten has contributed a Brute Basic Action toward her party's challenge, The House Always Wins.

<Pose Tracker> Marivel Armitage has posed.

"I did," Marivel says, lowering her voice. "And I told Sin that if he didn't stop being mean, the Summoners would be comin' for it and would finish it off for good!" She ruffles the hair on some heads. She always seems to speaking towards them more than anyone. Perhaps she has something in common with Riesenlied with a natural affinity for kidlings.

Marivel could have told a more truthful tale, but it would not have been as honest.

Marivel does try to keep busy at the very least. She may only be able to do so much, but she seems determined to somehow do more than what one person can do.

"It's true," She adds to Elly. "If they told you no I would've been just impossible." She smiles. "You're a kind woman, Elly, you should not be so frightened of yourself."

Marivel's general attitude towards protecting herself against hostile villagers is to simply act like she belongs whether or not she actually does. Be weird, yes, be as weird as you can be but do it with a wink and a smile and sometimes, even, a chastizing finger. Dance a pretty enough jig and you might even find yourself enjoying it.

'I don't know who this Lydia person is,' Marivel thinks. 'But I have this feeling I should avoid her entirely to avoid a big a problem.'

Marivel opens her mouth to say that really she'd like to do anything BUT help put up a house since her arms are not exactly bulging muscles and she usually builds robots for this sort of thing and occassionally to pass butter but before she can get a word in edgewise she finds herself in the 'attic' with the rest.

Marivel, hesitantly, grabs ahold of the rope.

DG: Marivel Armitage has contributed a Brute Basic Action toward her party's challenge, The House Always Wins.

<Pose Tracker> Riesenlied has posed.

Riesenlied looks pretty confused about Marivel's story; you could tell for a moment that she actually believes her for a moment, or at least maybe... she really just wants to believe she could sit down and speak with Sin and really understand what it is that hurts him and how they can fix it.

The Clysmian of Obsession...

Is dialogue with such an existence even possible?

But she's snapped out of it as she looks wanly towards Elly, noticing how out of it she is. She reaches out to her for a moment, as she listens to her tale of piloting Vierge against Sin.

"Elly..." she expresses quietly. She could cry beside Elly, right now. But she cried already, at least for one thing that grieved her.

"Thank you," she expresses quietly. "I can scarce imagine how to pilot a Gear, and it's no less dangerous... but I know in my heart you helped us evacuate more people doing the things you did."

She's about to speak more, then--You wan

t to help us put up old Bonfo's house?

SOON

"U-um... I'll do my best," Riesenlied looks incredibly uncertain, holding onto the rope. Her legs are quaking a little, but she didn't really want to just sit down and put it off when she's having a Walking Day.

Her horrible dragon hand doesn't need gloves, at least.

"Trouble, give me some help...?" she quietly asks to the cucco-shaped pod.

DG: Riesenlied has contributed a Brute Basic Action toward her party's challenge, The House Always Wins.

<Pose Tracker> Noeline has posed.

"We'd be delighted to assist," Noeline is quick to reply to the pair of Bonfos, her eyes lighting up in amused relish as she spots Marivel's reticence and decides she can have some fun with this. Besides, she's well aware how useful raw strength can be at times like this, and she and the Outreach as a whole are pretty old hands at assembling shelters and temporary lodgings by now. Permanent ones, even.

Before the vampire can open her mouth, Noeline's given her a solid nudge in the back, propelling her forwards.

  • * *

Now, though, she just looks mildly and silently horrified at the fact that Riesenlied, still wobbling a little, is standing there next to them. "Are you sure this is alright?" she wonders quietly, glancing towards Elly at the same time but otherwise thinning her lips as she accepts Riese's determination.

The Hyadean barely has to even ask; the cucco-camoflaged pod whistles merrily from where it's been sniffing around Hob and Nob, responding to her wishes by floating just in front of Riesenlied and nudging its way into a loop of the rope, letting it go tight against a series of clamps on the little ARM's side. It doesn't so much help pull as help wind, and it becomes clear soon enough that it's staying in that position more to be a handhold for Riesenlied than to actually provide effort.

Noeline has that part covered anyway, lifting her rope in her hands as she tests it. "Alright, then!" she calls. "One-- two--"

DG: Noeline has used her Tool Trouble toward her party's challenge, The House Always Wins.

<Pose Tracker> Elhaym van Houten has posed.

Elly smiles at Marivel, but weakly. "... Someone has to be," she says, as a weak attempt at a joke.

Her attention drifts back to Riesenlied and her face burns. She does not feel desert of the praise. She purses her lips and says, almost mumbles, "Thank you... I... I don't want to be difficult. I just... it wasn't something..."

Elly swallows.

"I'll talk about it later, sometime. I don't want to put you out when you're stretching your legs."

BUT! HEAVY LABOR WILL PUT YOU BACK IN A MOOD FOR SMILES!

Elly feels the thin leather soles of her gloves tear immediately as they are put under literally any stress. Her lips thin and her eyses widen in dismay. The machina - er, mysterious pods, legally and medically distinct from machina and we can never take this back - line up.

One! Two! PULL...

P U L L . . .

P U L L . . .

Part of the frame crashes. "I knew we shoulda' got metal nails," complains Old Bonfo from the top. "Well, uh... wow, this is really comin' apart. Thanks for your help, folks."

As the group files out and moves down the road, they can see Griz, currently positioned to brace up the timber frame that fell over. He is holding it up with both hands, teeth gritting, sweat pouring down his greased-up muscles. "Go on," he grunts. "Get everyone out!"

"There ain't nobody in there, ya wandering performer," complains Young Bonfo, who had been supervising because he is actually Old (the status effect.)

Griz's muscles tremble realistically. "I'll hold it up -- as long as I can--"

"That frame weighs sixty pounds, and that's roundin' up," Young Bonfo says.

"ARRRGH THE WEIGHT IS TOO MUCH - gotta - push up with every iota of the power within - this body of mine --!!"

"This town is full of strange people," Elly remarks to Noeline. ("I heard that," calls Griz in the receding distance.)

<Pose Tracker> Marivel Armitage has posed.

Maybe you can! Nobody seems to have tried it yet though it's probably going to be a bit more complicated than walking up to it and saying 'Hi'. Even if it can understand, would it even hear you from all the way down there? Still, she does try to encourage hope rather than revel in despair, her pain rarely pushing her to that kind of depth even if she feels it as strongly as ever.

Naturally before she can get too over the top Noeline, who seems to have a pretty solid understanding of Marivel, helps everyone out by shoving her. Marivel snickers as if she had been caught in a game but enjoyed the race.

"Well I won't argue that," Marivel adds to Elly.

Walking away from their failed construction job, Marivel asides. to Elly. "I know. Isn't it lovely?"

Dorca runs up to the group. "Marie! Marie!!"

His eyes are big and wide.

"The Yaro Element has been spotted in the jungle again! Now's your chance to go get it...!"

Marivel's eyes widen faintly and she rests a hand on Dorca's shoulder. "Good work, Dorca!" She declares before taking a look around. "Everyone, get close...! We must stop the Yaro Element that has been harrassing this village!!"

And there is a flash of light and--

--everybody is in the jungle now. A glitchy pixellated odd-looking Yellow Element--A YARO ELEMENT--is wiggling around its own business before it turns towards the group--

--emits a high pitched screech-like noise and immediately opens fire with strangely gooey looking electrical blasts.

Marivel draws out her microphone and shouts through it. "Yaro Element! Hold still!"

The Yaro Element does hold still for a moment indeed--before splitting off into /another/ Yaro Element...!

"Ah." She says moments before the second Yaro Element joins in the screeching. "I messed up."

She bops herself lightly on the head with a fist, sticking her tongue out.

DG: Marivel Armitage has used her Tool My Mike toward her party's challenge, The Yaro Element.

<Pose Tracker> Riesenlied has posed.

Riesenlied looks pretty depressed about the house collapsing, probably in part because she had to let go before her legs seriously gave way and she felt a sharp, panging strain on her back; it's through Trouble's quick intervention that she didn't fall, along with Noeline's help just behind her.

"I didn't... mess it up, did I? It's hard to tell," Riesenlied admits, not having been part of many wall-standing exercises. Though it... it should be pretty obvious, at the very least. She looks to Griz's antics with a quiet smile. At least they still have cheer left.

She smiles a bit more delicately towards Marivel and Noeline as one jostles the other just very gently, though. She's glad to see their friendship take off.

She tries to keep the grim relief out of her mind.

But then Dorca comes to call to them. "D-Dorca?" she blinks a few times and... the Yaro Element? Eh? Eh--

And then they're in the jungle; she squirms a little and lets out a little yelp as she covers her head. Marivel's shouting through her microphone.

"This is..." she looks just a little bizarrely perplexed. "This is..."

A pause, as she lowers her head quietly as the pixellated Yellow Element hovers around her.

She sobs just a little. The ring on her finger shimmers with the Dragon's Tear as the Photosphere briefly comes to mind.

"I'm sorry. I couldn't do more for you..."

... that's really not useful for battle riese???

(here comes the level 4 tool)

DG: You use your Tool Rings of Promise against your party's Challenge, The Yaro Element!

DG: Riesenlied has used her Tool Rings of Promise toward her party's challenge, The Yaro Element.

<Pose Tracker> Elhaym van Houten has posed.

Elly considers the matter, then answers Riesenlied. "I don't think so. I don't really know a lot about carpentry, but I think that big man may have misjudged how well it would hold together without iron nails."

(Very distantly, "i heard that")

But then a small child approaches!

"Oh, Dorca! Hello," Elly says to the small child as the small child runs up and informs them of the peril of the Yaro Element.

"Did he mean Yellow?" Elly asks.

She slow-blinks at Marivel.

HICKORY SMOKED SEGUE LATER:

Elly stands in the middle of an open field. She blinks several times.

The YARO ELEMENT is there. The YARO ELEMENT is here to defend ^Big Momma^. The YARO ELEMENT doesn't take your ^Fertilizer.^

The YARO ELEMENT is not part of the Element structure Elly knows. She looks at it forlornly, before it splurts electro-gel at her and she yelps and leaps in the air. It's quite a good vertical leap - all that time in the horse stance under Fei's supervision has paid off.

"hiiiYAH!" she says, as she whacks the YARO ELEMENT with her staff, twisting round to nunchuck-spin some additional damage into the mix.

After Riesenlied begins apologizing Elly freezes for a moment. Oh no, she thinks, is this actually--

HE'S A REAL ^FISHERMAN^ FROM FILGAIA

DG: Elhaym van Houten has used her Tool Three-Section Staff toward her party's challenge, The Yaro Element.

<Pose Tracker> Noeline has posed.

Noeline is seasoned enough to understand what it means when the frame shifts just so, when a warning creak and the low crackle of splitting wood accompanies the sudden slacking of her rope. "--hells," she mutters under her breath, and then simply lets go of her support - it's useless now, only holding a chunk of beam twisted off the whole - to instead brace Riesenlied for the sudden lack of weight.

When all is said and done she hisses to herself in irritation, a little more annoyed at herself than the wall of wood. "Not your fault, certainly. I wonder if it caught some water on the way over," she offers back to Riese before she glances at Elly's comment; that's enough for her to let out an amused sigh and a shake of her head, at least, as she puts her strength to use once more in dragging the thing off of poor Griz.

"That goes for everywhere, I've found," she comments back with a lightly fanged grin, then turns more solemn as she gazes over the wreckage. "Grab someone from the Fereshte - let them know we need some more planks over here, and perhaps some decent rope to tie the whole thing together a bit more," she suggests to one of the Azadians... and then looks at the heavy-set man, still complaining at the weight as he holds up the tiniest remaining part of the wall. "... and perhaps some nails, this time," she adds glumly.

Either way, that will take time, and Marivel's already spurring them onwards. She's barely at Riesenlied's side again before-- the world shifts around her.

At first glance, she can't tell if the sensation she gets from the fiend is just a matter of confusion from her sudden teleport, or if it means something more. The fact that Riesenlied recognizes the similarities doesn't help matters; she finds her uncertainty holding her in place for a moment, her hand reaching to Riesenlied's back to comfort her as her ring glitters with the Hyadean's accumulated feelings. "You did everything you could. And--... I am sure that history will recognize that fact," she offers gently.

And then the Element has the temerity to get a bit too close for comfort, a hacking noise indicating another spitful of electrified gel. Rather than come anywhere near to that, Noeline's sword is suddenly in her hands, using the flat of it to baseball bat the poor fiend into the distant twinking of a creature so used to blasting off again.

DG: Noeline has used her Tool Rings of Promise toward her party's challenge, The Yaro Element.

DG: Riesenlied has drawn a new Challenge.

 "Our playpen's gone..."

Several children stand sadly over the ruins of what looks like a miniature
Blitzball arena composed of a small kiddie pool, sized just for them. One of
the kids turns and says, "You'll never become a blitzball when you grow up
 now..."

You've got a lot of work ahead of you, and this wasn't exactly in your
schedule... but if you work quickly enough, perhaps you can come up with a
temporary solution and bring some cheer back to these children's faces.

... Especially the one that wants to be a blitzball. What's up with that??

<Pose Tracker> Marivel Armitage has posed.

Marivel blinks at Riesenlied. "Huh?" She does not seem to quite get the same idea about the Yaro Element because she's inching closer to try and leap upon it and devour its soul or whatever. Or just bite into it anyway. Hard to know with Crimson Nobles.

One of the Yaro Elements looks at Riesenlied.

It looks at that ring...!!

And then it screeches one last time before fleeing, trailing electrified goop as it goes.

The other Yaro Element advances forward but is struck by a baseball bat and a staff simultaneously and is sent

___/17:32, 21 May 2019 (EDT)Merilan (talk)*

"Huh." Marivel says. "Well I guess that's that. Did you know that fiend?"

She has that kind of tone where she's sympathetic but isn't really sure what's going on exactly so is kind of awkward about it.

<Pose Tracker> Riesenlied has posed.

"U-uh," Riesenlied sounds very distracted to Marivel by the time Noeline sends one of the Yaro Elements flying and Elly does some still really incredibly impressive martial arts (at least to her mind). She feels egg-in-face about trying to suggest telescopic combat rods to her in hindsight, really. It's been a long time since she could call herself a proper fencer.

Noeline encourages her, and she lowers her head as Marivel asks the question.

"No... I didn't know them," she admits. "I just... was reminded of something very sad."

She lowers her head for a moment.

But then the sound of cheering children can be heard nearby. "They got rid of the Fiends! Hooray for the adventurers!" exclaims one, even as one more glum child shuffles out.

"Dorca? Did you call them here?" he asks, scuffling his feet and looking towards a broken playpen. It's kind of like a kiddie pool with walls set up for cool cannonballing tricks and such. Perfect for aspiring Blitzballers.

"Ah, Sin washed the pen away... we can't practice anymore..."

The children look very sad.

Riesenlied stammers and says, "Ah... what's our schedule look like, Noeline? We could possibly..." she bites her lip, but then--

Kweeeh...!

Moccy the White Chocobo emerges with several saddlebags of gear, along with several other chocobos carrying planks of wood. She lights up a little as she laces her hands together. "M-Moccy? Everyone, are you here to help...?"

The children perk up as she exclaims, "Maybe it's possible now!"

DG: You use your Tool All the Queen's Chocos against your party's Challenge, To Become a Blitzball!

DG: Riesenlied has used her Tool All the Queen's Chocos toward her party's challenge, To Become a Blitzball.

<Pose Tracker> Noeline has posed.

Noeline would like to think it's for noble purposes, like protecting Riesenlied or clearing out dangerous creatures from Kilika Island or ensuring the safety of the townsfolks. It is all of those things, and more. At the same time, she can't help but feel a surge of grim satisfaction at removing the Yaro-- sorry, yellow fiend so firmly, and plants her sword into the ground with a distinct huff as she turns to help Riesenlied back up.

"It just brought up some old memories, that's all. A chance for some catharsis, perhaps," she rather drawls towards Marivel, her gaze a little flat but her mouth quirked up into a faintly amused smile.

She turns and blinks at the cheer that raises in the wake of the short fight, and then her eyebrows go up rather high at the thought of electrical anythings attacking anywhere close to children and water. "Are you all alright?" she aska urgently as she coaxes her partner forwards - but a sweep of her gaze across them seems to indicate that the only thing hurt is their pride, not to mention their blitzball arena. Despite the destruction, she can't help but let out a light sigh of relief.

If she holds Riesenlied's gaze a little too long, it's only because watching the other Hyadean squirm against her nature is, well, kind of cute. It doesn't even require Moccy to appear before she's let out an exaggerated but terribly fond sigh. "Last I checked, our schedule was to walk around Kilka and see what we could do to help," she points out. "There wasn't anything like a time limit. You really think I would say no to something like this?" she adds with another grin.

There's a tiny beep behind her; she reaches behind herself to find Strife nudging its way into her hand, and her eyebrows raise. "... are you quite sure?" she asks the little ARM surreptitiously, before glancing at the children with an uncertain frown. "We're talking water, and kicking. I know you are built tough, but--" she cuts herself off as if the orb is actually replying to her, before she lets out a quiet and uncertain sigh. "--yes, yes, I know I've done worse to you in my time, but still--"

She puffs out a breath, then gives in - stepping forwards to snag the deflated and smushed remains of a blitzball with one hand, and deposit a suspiciously familiar and silvery blitzball in its place. "I'll see what I can do to fix your ball," she suggests, and gives the ball one last glance. "This one's a little solid, but it might be good for target practice until we're done."

DG: Noeline has used her Tool Strife toward her party's challenge, To Become a Blitzball.

<Pose Tracker> Riesenlied has posed.

The child looks towards Strife as if he has seen the light and the light has graced upon him divine favour.

"I will... become Blitzball," he whispers. "Just like you."

The child's name may or may not be Slamsuna C. Blitzlei.

<Pose Tracker> Marivel Armitage has posed.

"Mmhmm..." Dorca says quietly. "Um... I wanted to ask you about...um..." He quiets down because that's for another scene. Right now, though...!

"Ahh, I understand," Marivel says. "Sometimes even those who have been our enemies can be missed as though they were our closest friends."

And she does have to nod along with Noeline's chastisement. "That's correct. We are here to help as we see fit--and there are no challenges more appropriate than children for whom the adults are too busy to assist for us to lend our aid...!"

"But let's see..." She crouches down and takes a long sip of blood right in front of impressionable youth before ducking down to help reinflate the pool.

MEANWHILE...

Nob rises above MArivel's head and hovers towards Strife with big sharp teeth constantly smiling. It bobs up and down excitedly.

It wants to be looked at and approved too by the kids! It opens its mouth and sticks out a long tongue going, "BAAHHHH." in an attempt to gain extra sympathy points.

DG: Marivel Armitage has used her Tool Tomato Juice For Grownups toward her party's challenge, To Become a Blitzball. [OOC] Marivel Armitage says, "it's not like bah humbug it's like BAAAH sticking tongue out"

DG: Not everyone in the party has acted yet. +act/complete can only be used once the whole party has acted.

<Pose Tracker> Elhaym van Houten has posed.

Elly looks towards the children. She opens her mouth as if to speak something soothing to them, to show some maternal shine, when the flight of the chocobos descends. Elly's mouth stays partially open.

Noeline makes such a solemn pledge. Elly feels another ghost of shame. But, she knows, there's something she can do. She reaches into her satchel again and turns her attention towards the birds.

"If you can help," she says.

"Then..."

Elly raises her hand. As her fingers unfold, the contents are revealed.

Gysahl Greens x1 "I dunno why people don't like them. Tastes like cabbage!" -Fei Fong Wong, probably

"You can have this," Elly says, earnestly.

DG: Elhaym van Houten has used her Tool Traveler Sandals toward her party's challenge, To Become a Blitzball.

Your team's managed to come first in the race!

The day ends with a celebration at the open Temple grounds, with festive
food and drink as well as merry exchanges of music and Blitzball technique
exhibitions. The Kilikans' spirits aren't so easily dampened, and your aid
has come a long way to bring back a smile during a tough time like this.

The Kilikan innkeeper waves you over and hands you a book that he managed to
salvage in the disaster, explaining that this is an Al Bhed Primer that
could help you in your travels. It contains some rudimentary travel and
adventurer-related passages, and is part of a bigger set.

<Pose Tracker> Riesenlied has posed.

Riesenlied's cheeks are red, partially from exertion and partially from Noeline's admonishment as she tells her that, of course they should help. It probably helps that she knows Noeline picks up on her reticience and found it amusing; there's a gentle cling as she goads her gently and says, "I--I know, I just... I just wanted to check."

She looks to Elly, a bit timidly; but where she's not sure how to reach out to her, Moccy is at least looking excitedly as she looks at Elly's Gysahl Greens--

Before getting bopped by another one going 'Kweh!'. Grumpy!

"I just was thinking... Hob and Nob is really like Strife and Trouble, aren't they?" Riesenlied giggles bashfully. "It's one way you two are alike... I'm sure Hob and Nob are just as helpful. I know Strife and Trouble've rescued me from danger many times," as she pats Nob on the side of the head. Hopefully Nob doesn't bite...!

It doesn't, in truth, take that much time to work and recreate the playpen; Riesenlied's spirits themselves are cheered as she finds less strenuous work to do, like holding up boards and making sure things are tied and fitted well. That it's around children just seems to buoy her further. Nob and Strife both show a lot of cheer in distracting with the children. "BWAAAH!"

And at the end of the day...

"Hey there! You should come to the courtyard of Kilika Temple -- we're having a small celebration!"

One transition scene later, the children follow on through. There's dancing and festivities going; a large bonfire around which people are showing their moves, Blitzball and otherwise; rows upon rows of tables of local foods.

Riesenlied looks pretty exhausted, and is back in her wheelchair by this point, but...

"I did an okay job... I think, right?" Riesenlied half-stammers as she rubs at her knee. "I'm really tired, but... seeing everyone's spirits like this..." She tilts her head. "It's reminding me of what was so infectious about Wayside. It's a good reminder."

Meanwhile, the Child who will become Blitzball looks to Dorca. "What's up, Dorca? You look troubled," speaks... n-not Slamsuna...

<Pose Tracker> Marivel Armitage has posed.

Nob doesn't bite Riesenlied though Nob does lick Riesenlied's hand like a dog despite it making chirpy noises like a bat. Or a bird? Maybe it's many pets rolled into one robot.

"BWAAAH!" Nob says repeatedly (Hob doesn't seem to be around). "BWAAAAH!" Hob is spending time with Rikku so Nob is feeling a little lonely.

At the end of the day...

"You folks sure love your celebrating. Well I suppose even I could use a few parties right now." She smiles and follows the group along as does the children. Dorca follows along too.

"You did great. All of you. You can tell from all the smiles," Marivel insists. "If you insist you're not doing enough, they'll feel insulted...!" She rests a hand on Riesenlied's shoulder. "Honestly, truly, you are doing great. I promise."

Meanwhile Dorca is approached by Blitzbob.

"Oh? Um..." Dorca looks down at this book he's been holding.

It's an Al Bhed Primer...!

"That's the book Ranna threw at you." A girl says. "Why are you still holding onto it? She's been nothin' but a big jerk."

"I just...um..." He looks towards Elly, then to Riesenlied. "...Not everyone's here. Ranna didn't come."

She offers the book to the party.

"Can you return this to her?" He asks. "And um---I don't want her to throw more stuff at me but maybe we can be friends?"

Marivel frowns thoughtfully at this revelation and looks to the rest of Team Cute. "A new problem on our hands..." She murmurs muisteriously.

QUEST UNLOCKED!
