  • Summary: Solaris sends a team to investigate the Faraway Lands. Jacqueline happens to be there when they arrive, which quickly leads to a temporary teamup out of a sort of necesscity.

DG: A party led by Lydia Seren is now entering Faraway Lands.
DG: Party formation is now over. An Entry Challenge will now be drawn and displayed to the party.

====================<* CHALLENGE - Electrified Doorway *>=====================
|Type: Entry |Dungeon Ability: Agility |Challenge Rating: 2 |
--------------------------< Challenge Information: >--------------------------
There are several entrances to Faraway Lands, rather than a single central
doorway. Famously, all of them are locked tight and difficult to enter. Many
a Digger has been turned back at this point, unable to enter.

You find one of the doors that is not locked tight. Instead, the door
irregularly opens -- moving up and down -- in an almost spasm-like way.
Lightning leaps and arcs away from it. It seems that whatever powers the
door has malfunctioned, and left the door in a state of constantly opening
and closing. To enter, one must get under -- and avoid the arcs of
 electricity leaping periodically from it.

<Pose Tracker> Lydia Seren has posed.

It probably isn't too unusual that Solaris might have interests in ruins not too far from its own base particularly when they happen to be Zeboim era ruins that houses a rare substance--the Kizim Fire--and other valuable resources. A small squad as such has been set up at the Damzen Base and sent out to investigate. It's as good an opportunity to make use of their new reluctant agent.

"This place has many entrances," Lydia says, since she figures as someone actually from Filgaia she probably should explain a bit. "Which makes it super annoying to explore, but on the plus side we can probably uh...avoid...people?"

She curses herself mentally for stumbling upon her own attempt at sounding professional. Either way, she flexes back her wings and propels herself forward over a dune and drops down near one of the entrance doors. "Hey--this one is open!"

She touches it, is briefly electrocuted, and she frowns. "Or uh. Mostly open." She looks back. "Careful off the electricity going in!"

She folds her wings back into her back and tries sliding underneath the electric arcs. Sure, she could puddle herself, but just because she can doesn't mean she's quite ready to do the kind of shit that OS gets up to.

DG: Lydia Seren has used her Tool Radical Skates toward her party's challenge, Electrified Doorway.
<Pose Tracker> Jacqueline Barber has posed.

When the Solaris squad makes their way to Faraway Lands, they might find signs that they aren't the first ones here. It's recently, too. There's footprints that look like they were created just recently and a pillar of earth is jutted into the door, slowing down its repeated raising and lowering.

The person responsible is nowhere to be found. Perhaps they had already made their way inside...or, perhaps they bolted the moment they saw they weren't alone.

As it happens, it's closer to the latter.

One Jacqueline Barber is currently crouching behind a pillar, holding her breath as she listens to the voices. There's Lydia...and, the rest of them are with Solaris, as well.

This is...very much not ideal. She had just been planning to do a little scouting before heading back to the others.

For now, she tries to remain very still, while listening in to what they say. With any luck, they won't notice her and she can sneak off once they're inside.

...Unfortunately for her, the chances of that are pretty low.

DG: Jacqueline Barber has used her Tool Rapid Remedy toward her party's challenge, Electrified Doorway.
<Pose Tracker> Loren Voss has posed.

In the end, not long after he'd made his return from his ill-fated information-gathering in Damzen City...

It hadn't been that he was assigned to the mission. It didn't work like that, now that he was a captain. But the call had come down that they needed someone from medical on this expedition to the location known as the Faraway Lands, and he hadn't even bothered to review his subordinates' files this time.
It wasn't like any of them were going to have magically sprouted the capacity to assist on an expedition of this nature since he last looked less than a week ago.

So he'd said he'd do it, and that was that.

If this is what 'growing up' feels like, though...

He considers the jerking electrified doorway with growing dismay, his shoulders slouching.

...He wishes it would come with less pain packed into the bargain.

He rubs at his temples as Lydia exclaims that she's found an entrance.

    "...Wonderful."

His hands fall away. He watches her a moment as she probes the door.

Her body, her identity, her freedom...

She's just a Lamb. Forget it.

His hands clench into fists at his sides, and he takes a step forward.

"This is going to be awful," he mutters, then fidgeting with the wire looped around his wrist. Hissing out a breath -- this thing is unpleasant to use, no matter how often he uses it, like scooping a part of his mind through a sieve -- he starts forward, water Ether's blessing wrapping around everyone present that he can now see.
Which does not include Jacqueline, who he does not see -- for now.

DG: Loren Voss has used his Tool Ether Tuner toward his party's challenge, Electrified Doorway.
<Pose Tracker> Elhaym van Houten has posed.

There is a woman with Lydia Seren.

This woman has an impassive face and gray hair in a twin-tail hairstyle. She is wearing a nondescript cotton dress of reasonable quality and no particular identifying marks, much as one might wear around a reasonably successful ranch or other location where agriculture happens. It has a little lace fringe around the hem, and loose-cut sleeves.

This woman says, "Good thinking," during the transit.

She walks past where Jay is lurking. She pauses...

But Tolone doesn't remark on it.

"Don't talk yourself into defeat," Tolone says to Loren. She raises one arm and makes a fist towards the door. Ah, a preface to the use of Ether to -

Tolone's forearm goes fshhhhh as she pulls it off. The sleeve of the dress rustles forwards a moment before something goes SHRAAAANK! and bursts at the side of the door with intense, actinic force, a second SHRAAANK! aimed slightly above where she had aimed it. Tolone wiggles her shoulder to dislodge the carbonized fabric and reattaches the detached limb.

DG: Elhaym van Houten has used her Tool Fishing Tackle toward her party's challenge, Electrified Doorway.
<Pose Tracker> Tabitha deVriese has posed.

Tabitha deVriese, An Etone And Not a Gebler Agent We Swear, is nonetheless conveniently here! This cover story probably isn't holding up so well anymore, but she's here in her Etone gear anyway, boots clicking against stone as she walks. With time spent around her one knows that she walks so lightly thanks to her gravity Ether allowing her to greatly lighten herself. Tabitha, while the rest of the group is examining the door, hems at the campsight. "Someone was here," she notes. "Recently, at that. Interesting...explorer, maybe? I wonder where our little mouse went..."

She has, for once, actually /attached/ her cybernetic left hand, rather than having it fly around her and/or kept in a bag; this possibly because she is no longer in Spira, a place that is racist against people with flying magical hands. Still, she favors her right visibly for most purposes, having grown accustomed to the left being a stump that could only bring death. She glances an aside to Loren at his muttering, and then chimes an affirmative to Tolone's response. "That's right! I'm sure it will be a merry old time. What's a little light electrocution between friends, anyway?"

And so saying she hops up and then falls toward the door, slipping laterally through the space. Hopefully not banging anything on the way through.

DG: Tabitha deVriese has contributed a Agility Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Electrified Doorway.

DG: The party led by Lydia Seren has passed this challenge! The party gained 20 exploration! If anyone needs to use
party management commands, do so now. Otherwise, the next round's GM may begin the next round with +dungeon/draw.
<Pose Tracker> Lydia Seren has posed.

Lydia says, "Oh sweet prosthetic," to Tolone. She wonders briefly if Castle tore her arm off too but figures that's probably pretty unlikely. Lydia makes a move as if to hold the door open but it turns out the Solaris team doesn't actually need the help. Even Loren manages to get through without any trouble despite his anticipation, though the buoyant water shield certainly helps.

"Heh I get it." She tells Tabitha, grinning. She then glances around to make sure everybody is in.

"Let's see... Including the captain there was four of us so..." She points to Loren. "One," to Tabitha. "Two." to Tolone. "Three." Then towards Jay. "Four..."

Jay managed to get in on time at least but, well, ended up tumbling right out into the open for the 'shepherds' to see. woops.

"............" Lydia stares at Jay.

"...Seems legit?"

Yeah they're not going to fall for that Lydia.

DG: Jacqueline Barber has drawn a new Challenge.

========================<* CHALLENGE - Closing Path *>========================
|Type: Exploration |Dungeon Ability: Agility |Challenge Rating: 3 |
--------------------------< Challenge Information: >--------------------------
As you have seen, many of the doors in Faraway Lands are powered. These
steel doors lift up into the wall when some presses a button -- or when
someone approaches. The one at this end of the wall, however, is raised...
and begins to lower when you approach. If you want to get through, you will
need to run through -- and not get separated or, worse, crushed.
=Dungeon Conditions: Hesitate, Suffer=========================================
<Pose Tracker> Jacqueline Barber has posed.

It was supposed to be easy. She would rush out the door once they passed, and they would be none the wiser. But...right as Jacqueline's about to make her way outside, the door slams shut, locking the five of them in here together. It doesn't look like it'll be reopening any time soon, either.

Jacqueline rests her hand against the door with a sigh and meets Lydia's stare with a look of her own. ...Yeah, they're probably not going to buy that, huh?

"Ah...hello, Lydia, Loren, everyone. Sorry for, ah, dropping in..." Jacqueline greets with a polite wave and a smile. "It looks like we're all stuck with each other for the time being... I hope we can get along?"

She seems calm and collected on the outside, but on the inside she's pretty nervous, for obvious reasons. This is...really not an ideal situation for her. She recognizes most of them, though Tolone in particular she's only seen once before. And that was...in not exactly the most ideal situation for a friendly meeting.

...Hopefully she's willing to let bygones be bygones.

When they do end up making their way forward, it isn't long before they come across...another door. It looks like this particular room was meant to be an airlock of some kind, at least when the facility was running at full power. Now the doors are opening and shutting of their own volition...at least, when they're not slamming shut on them.

The one on the other end seems to be open, at least...except until one of them approaches, at which point it begins to close. There's not much time to act - Jacqueline bolts for the door, gesturing with her left hand as she does.

A pillar of earth much like the one at the first door rises, looking to form a wedge to keep the door open for just a moment longer. It isn't going to last long, but it might just make the difference.

As Jacqueline moves, she draws out a potion and take a quick swig. It helps calm the nerves, and give her a bit more nergy.

DG: Jacqueline Barber has used her Tool Rapid Remedy toward her party's challenge, Closing Path.
<Pose Tracker> Loren Voss has posed.

He positively goes rigid when Tolone tells him not to talk himself into defeat. "..." He makes no direct remark to her, though the silence from him may be palpable on its own.

Too late for that, he thinks bitterly, before he starts forward for the entrance, sped onwards by water's grace.

Only for Tabitha does he have anything to say, and the sum total of that is a mere, "Sure."

Before they're through the doorway, all one, two, three, four--

    five.

    Before it slams shut.

    "..."

This time his silence has a different cast to it. He glances at Tabitha, then at Tolone. His hand rests for a moment on the hilt of his sword.

"Were you spying on us, Barber?" he asks, taking a step towards her. His gaze bores into her, as if he could somehow draw out the truth through his eyes alone.

Only to ultimately look away from her. "Tch." He'll defer to his superiors in this but--

"It's not like she can go anywhere. We can figure out what to do later. ...Get up on your feet, Barber. You're going to give us a hand."

They get perhaps a few steps along before it becomes crystal clear that the door -- the only exit from the room in which they've found themselves -- is a problem.
    In that it's closing.

"--Hurry!" he barks, fumbling with the device looped about his wrist and wincing. The Ether comes out of him in a flood, bouying and speeding the lot of them along.

But will it be fast enough?

DG: Loren Voss has used his Tool Ether Tuner toward his party's challenge, Closing Path.
<Pose Tracker> Elhaym van Houten has posed.

"Thank you," Tolone answers Lydia.

Her head turns to look at Jay.

There is nothing superficially wrong with Tolone's face, other than the screws visible and set in flush on her face. But there is something obscurely and coldly wrong with how her expression rests as she takes in Jay. Jay says she hopes they can get along.

A second passes.

Two.

Three.

"Hm," Tolone says, which isn't 'no' or '> shotgun'.

She continues forwards. There is no discernible reaction to the door's situation. The ether-summoned rocks make her head tilt about three degrees to one side. She crouches slightly. She closes her eyes for a moment, registering the Ether that is being drawn out of Loren. and -

LEAPS INTO THE AIR before kicking off the roof with another explosive burst that leaves scraps of inexpensive yet sensible leather shoes flying down, possibly bedevelling Jay and/or giving her free things, smashing down into the goal zone. "I'll crack it if it seals," Tolone says from the other side, possibly a moment before it does.

DG: Elhaym van Houten has used her Tool Fishing Tackle toward her party's challenge, Closing Path.
<Pose Tracker> Tabitha deVriese has posed.

Tabitha skates through the gap, comes down on her feet, slips herself upright and pats herself down, sighing. "Promising start! Weird doors, always a classic."

She half-turns when Lydia calls attention to Jay. "Ah. Hello, dear." You can practically hear her metaphorical mask snapping into place like a steel trap. "Oh, I'm sure it'll be a lovely time. Granas delivers those who believe in themselves, they say."

Soon enough, they're on their way - right into a closing door. Loren drives them forward, and Tabitha balls herself up and then lashes out an arm to grab him by the wrist. She had had ambitions of grabbing Tolone but turns out the cyborg has ROCKET FEET, so she settles for grabbing for Loren and Lydia, and then twists her wrist such that the Anchor embedded in her prosthetic chimes and releases.

All find themselves falling sideways, shooting for the door at a gravitational constant of a clip. "C'mon, c'mon...."

Hopefully between this and the thrust from Loren--!

DG: Tabitha deVriese has used her Tool Graviton Anchor toward her party's challenge, Closing Path.
<Pose Tracker> Lydia Seren has posed.

Lydia, after being caught off guard by all this, steps back and runs her hand down her face. She sends a few messages out to Rachiel but they don't make it to their destination due to the team's location. "Well that's not up to me right now, yeah?" She tells Jay, mildly irritated but mostly concerned for what might happen to her.

She ultimately focuses on that closing door. Wheels pop out of her feet as she gets to dashing--she's frankly getting to move before the call but, well, considering the situation that's probably okay. On the plus side, she probably doesn't have to worry about the door slamming shut on her because she's the one person here--except maybe Tolone--who can handle that result.

Lydia slides towards Tolone shortly after her and she gives her a small nod before quietly adding, "So fuckin' cool."

Her hand rapidly expands as she swings a hand up and tries to help the pillars hold that door open.

DG: Lydia Seren has used her Tool Radical Skates toward her party's challenge, Closing Path.

<Pose Tracker> Jacqueline Barber has posed.

Was she spying?

"Not...intentionally." Jacqueline replies to Loren, shaking her head.

"I was just going to do some scouting here, but then I saw you all and figured it'd be best to hide and escape once you'd passed. But then, well..." She gestures to the closed door behind them. "...So, I don't have much choice."

She looks toward Tolone for a moment, and once again she freezes place as Tolone stares at her. It's only three seconds, but it feels like an eternity, and she lets out a breath she didn't realize she was holding. As such, the smile she sends Tabitha is just a bit more nervous than usual.

"A-ah...hello. I'm...Jacqueline - Jacqueline Barber." She greets. Just in case - she doesn't recall if they've ever been introduced, and it's not like they won't be able to find out anyway.

She looks toward Lydia, then.

"...Yeah, I know." She replies with a nod.

But, there's no more time for pleasantries - the other door in this room is closing fast.

Loren harnesses the power of Ether, buoying them and hastening them forward. Tolone, meanwhile, smashes right on through the door. She breaks through Jacqueline's pillar in the process - but, Lydia's there to reinforce it.

Tabitha grabs for Loren and Lydia, and with gravity turned on its head, they all fall through the gap. It's narrow, though - some of them might get briefly clipped by it, but nothing fatal or even permanent.

In the end, they all make it through. Jacqueline pauses, taking a moment to catch herself on the other side.

"W-well...shall we continue on...?" She asks.

DG: Loren Voss has drawn a new Challenge.

==========================<* CHALLENGE - Vault Door *>==========================
|Type: Exploration |Dungeon Ability: Brute |Challenge Rating: 3 |
---------------------------< Challenge Information: >---------------------------
The end of the smooth, metal hallway that you enter ends in a massive vault
door. This huge steel door has a wheeled locking mechanism -- set to some
combination forgotten millennia ago. Now, the only way through is brute
force. Of course, blowing apart a vault door is not something to be done
lightly -- or easily -- or, unfortunately, quietly.
=Dungeon Conditions: Collapse, Tire===========================================
<Pose Tracker> Loren Voss has posed.

    Not intentionally.

Loren is not particularly known for kindness or understanding, so he just gives her a long withering look.

...Of the ones here, Tabitha (and Lydia, to the extent that she's able to intercede) may be her best sources of sympathy...? Perhaps this is not the best of omens.
(Perhaps Jacqueline may yet be able to make a run for it, eventually, if things don't turn out well...)

But more immediately, there is the matter of the closing door.

It almost isn't fast enough, even after that boost from him.

And then Tabitha snags his wrist, and he's taken up, briefly airborne. He's flying. Nearly unaided, if you don't mind that Tabitha's doing the heavy lifting here--

"Wait--!" he shouts, seeing disaster looming in the form of...
    ...the doorframe.

There is a 'thump' as he impacts, solidly, with the doorframe, on his passage on through it.

A pained hiss escapes from him once he's freed from Tabitha's grasp and he covers his face with his hands.

He just needs a moment. Or two.

Once that's done with, a somewhat more grouchy (yes, this is possible) Loren regards the others. "Element Tolone, deVriese. Just so you know, the signal's out. I just tried to get through and couldn't. I think it's the electrical current."

Though he looks over at Jay anyway, just because he is the paranoid type.

They've found themselves in a featureless metal hallway, one that continues on for a distance without variation.

Until they come across the vault door here, that is. Sat at the end of the hallway, it would seem there is no other way forward, unless they want to start destroying walls and seeing where that takes them.

"Signal's gotten worse," Loren notes, checking the device in his hand. He frowns at it, then approaches the vault door and places a hand on it. It, of course, refuses to open. A moment of inspection of the lock follows.

"This is the situation," he starts, once he's finished inspecting it, "We could guess the combination. With nine digits, I'd estimate... we don't do that," he summarizes, grimacing. "So the only real option is to break through it."

    Speaking of:

He presses his hand against the door and breathes out, attempting to alter the stresses present -- yes -- even in the metal vault door. It won't be enough to cause it to crumble at his feet (he should be so lucky) but it just might help.

Or he might just give himself a headache. The possibilites are endless.

DG: Loren Voss has contributed a Brute Basic Action toward his party's challenge, Vault Door.
<Pose Tracker> Elhaym van Houten has posed.

Tolone rises up, momentarily surrounded by sparkles. Lydia may find flattery is successful, even if it isn't instant.

She looks at Jay. To Jay, she says:

"Relax. We aren't enemies at this moment. I remember you. You're in charge of the Caravan Kinship." She lowers her head for a moment - and then extends a hand toward Jay. It has no weapons in it, as far as can be told. The grip is firm, but no more so than is polite.

Tolone smiles, and Jay might well sense that there is no love there, but also no hostility. The strange woman is speaking honestly.

Then she turns to face the vault door. *Tolone* turns - her arm doesn't. It goes slack, STILL HOLDING ONTO JAY'S HAND, and weighs nearly twenty pounds!

"You think you can find a flaw? If we have to cut through this," Tolone says, her residual arm pivoting upwards, now far more obviously appearing like a weapon cannon of some kind, "it's going to take time."

DG: Elhaym van Houten has used her Tool Undersea Explosive Pack toward her party's challenge, Vault Door.
<Pose Tracker> Lydia Seren has posed.

"That was pretty cool too," Lydia admits to Tabitha. "Normally we'd have to use a medium for that kind of grav-manipulation." She has been friendlier to Tabitha since her experience with Dr. Torture.

She paues and gives a glance to the, uh, probably concussed form of Loren. "Well--you got him through, and that's what counts." She grimaces before remembering she's had her head literally melted away once so suck it up captain! She says, "Yeah I tried reaching Medry too, no dice."

Not that she expects Rachiel to be much help. She may be a friendly face but Lydia doubts she could do much about the Jacqueline situation beyond get her in trouble.

"According to my robot calculations it'd take us for fucking ever to do that," She agrees on not trying to do 9 digits worth of guess work.. "But uh. I can probably break it. It's why I'm here right? Okay."

She draws out her warhammer, swings it effortlessly in her hand and then gets into a crouch, exhaling out of habit and then darting forward at high speeds. The Medium 'Gems' embedded into her body glow vibrantly as she spins the hammer around her wrist before swinging it back and then SLAMMING it for the door with her full strength and the drawn power of three Mediums behind it.

Lydia may be engaged in flattery with the other cyborgs about but there's a distinct sense that she genuinely believes in it and, in fact, thinks being a cyborg is awesome.

Even if it's hard to entirely enjoy with all the other junk that has come with it, but moments like this? This is the good side of having your humanity stolen away from you and replaced with metal and plastics and being tortured every so often. Hey, if Ivan can enjoy the side perks of being an assassin, well, Lydia can find the FUN in FUNDAMENTAL BREACH OF HUMAN RIGHTS.

Of course, the fact that Tolone seems to be treating Jay respectfully doesn't hurt her opinion either. "Come on Tabs, give it your best shot!"

DG: Lydia Seren has used her Tool Tiebreaker V 2.0 toward her party's challenge, Vault Door.
<Pose Tracker> Jacqueline Barber has posed.

Past that door...is yet another door. Jacqueline stares at it, shaking her head in disbelief.

"Today truly is not my day..." She murmurs to herself. First she runs into Solaris, and now there's doors everywhere she turns...? Maybe her luck was starting to run out. But then, Tolone speaks to her.

"Ah...yes, that's right." She confirms with a nod. She's a little surprised when Tolone extends a hand. Jacqueline hesitates for a second...but, she reaches out, accepting the handshake and returning the smile with one of her own.

And then Tolone's body turns, but her arm doesn't, and her hand is still in her grasp.

"A-ah!" Jacqueline's arm jerks down a bit at the sudden, added weight. She does not immediately try to tug her hand loose.

"Nine digits...without any clues, that's practically impossible - at least within our lifespan..." Jacqueline murmurs. So, they're going to have to break through this.

Fortunately, she had already loaded up her left gauntlet with the Landscaper Crest before she got here, so she doesn't need to use her hand that's currently in the grips of a cyborg.

"Here, let me help. With what I already know about doors like this, I might be able to..." With a gesture of her left hand, there's a sudden upheaval of power. Some of them might be able to feel the earth shifting around them, being shaped so that it can be useful while not compromising their location.

And then...there's a sudden, loud 'CRUNCH' of metal from within the door. ...Hopefully it's the sound of some of the locking mechanisms being crushed open by the earth itself, and not something vital.

Precision is pretty difficult when you can't see what you're doing.

DG: Jacqueline Barber has used her Tool Landscaper Crest toward her party's challenge, Vault Door.
<Pose Tracker> Tabitha deVriese has posed.

"Oh! Jeeze, sorry! Yeah watch your head!" Tabitha yelps, a bit too late. She steps slightly away because frankly offering to help would be the kind of insult she doesn't do for fun; he could take care of himself far better than she, after all. Instead she turns for Jay, giving her a pretty smile, all straight white teeth. "Hello, dear. Etone, Tabitha deVriese at your service. You have nothing to fear while I am about."

The camera of the theater of imagination briefly shifts to focus on Loren clutching his skull in the background.

"Oh, is it?" she prompts from Loren. "Well, bully. Perhaps we should move in!"

They do not move in. Instead they just move on, eventually locating that door. "Yes, well," she mutters to Lydia's commentary, seeming a bit uneasy. Solaris is built on so much never questioning that everyone around you has secrets... "You could say it's a blessing."

Speaking of which, Tabitha undoes one of the buttons on her double-breasted vest, causing it to flap down and open the pocket containing her Telescoping Staff. It falls down into her waiting hand, and she flicks it up with a switch. It telescopes outward into a long staff, which she proceeds to JAM under the door, then hops up, flipping elegantly into the air.

And then she shoots toward the ground at what looks like WAY more than one gravity, slamming into her end of the pole with enough force that it should shatter; it does not, but maybe the door does.

DG: Tabitha deVriese has used her Tool Telescoping Lever toward her party's challenge, Vault Door.

<Pose Tracker> Loren Voss has posed.

It's fine, he'll walk it off.

Nothing seems to be broken in any case.

Of significantly more importance than the status of Loren's skull is the door they reach at the end of the hallway, and its rather locked status.

Can he find a flaw? "I'm trying," he responds, shifting his hand across the door as he searches for something that might seem out of sorts, or out of place.

The world -- or more accurately, the underpinnings of the world -- seems to shift slightly, perhaps more in their favor. Loren glances over at Jay, one pale eyebrow just lifted.

But while some of the power of her working makes its way through, not all of it does, lessening the impact of the effect to an extent.

But the influx of power does permit Loren to pinpoint and manipulate--

"Here," he says, his hand stopping over a point in the metal that just seems to dance out of alignment with the other stressors he's tracked through the door. "The pressure's off here. Could be a weak point."

Which is his cue to get out of the way.

Particularly since Tabitha is incoming with that device that she slips into the crack just under the door--

Which produces a large and promising crack up the door's face.

Which only splinters further when introduced to a warhammer, empowered by Guardian might.

And the remainder of which is blown away by armcannonfire.

When the dust settles Loren is left coughing, wafting away the remaing dust floating in the air.

You enter a tall, rectangular-shaped room that leads upward. The door on the
other side is at the top, and you stand about a hundred feet below on the
floor. Along the sides of the room are platforms, each with a switch, that
can rise like elevators to a certain height -- but no further. These
platforms can only rise so high or so low, and some are along the middle
 portion.

To make matters more confusing, pulling a switch will raise or lower two
platforms, rather than one. When you raise the one at the floor level, the
one near the door at the top lowers to a third of the way down. To cross,
you will need to figure out which switches raise and lower which platforms,
and move carefully without trapping yourself in the middle of the room.

<Pose Tracker> Elhaym van Houten has posed.

Tolone supervises for a few moments as others gather their forces. She says, "Hm," and her arm lets go of Jay. Once the group has gathered themselves - thrown titanic, crushing force into the ancient metal, splintered it, RENT it asunder - Tolone says, with a single nod, "Good work."

SHRAAAAAAAAAK!

A positronic steam wash later, the way is clear. Tolone recovers her arm and reattaches it.

Moving forwards is an open room of great height. Tolone turns her head to look forwards, scanning the entire location carefully. The Etherically sensitive can pick up that she's throwing out subtle sub-visual detecting grids in the area, taking in the entire situation, including the control panel.

"Seren," she states, "get in the center with me."

Tolone moves towards the center of the room. "This area looks like it's got a complex signal-dependency launcher. If there's a trap we'll be able to endure it, given the scope and magnitude going on in other zones," she explains. "If there's an intermediate point - hm."

She gestures towards Tabitha. "Get in here," she tells her. "Your vertical leap is greater than mine."

DG: Elhaym van Houten has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Strangely Connected Platforms.
<Pose Tracker> Lydia Seren has posed.

"Heh heh... Got our revenge on that door." Lydia says. Loren is really suffering today. W-well what was she going to do? Not smash the door?

Regardless, Tolone has some instructions for the next part. Lydia doesn't protest or question the orders, figuring there's a reason for it.

"Hm... Don't seem to be immediately setting anything off. I could probably get up there but crrying everyone back and forth would take a while." And the space is enclosed enough she's not sure she could really do a good job with flying here.

She turns and gives a shrug to Tabitha though frowns a little because they haven't exactly finished checking for 'trap' immediately but maybe she can shove Tabitha back out if something squishy starts happening.

"Jay could probably create some steps with her pillars too," She adds thoughtfully. "If we need 'em."

DG: Lydia Seren has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Strangely Connected Platforms.
<Pose Tracker> Loren Voss has posed.

He's fine -- a little dust isn't enough to measurably put a dent in his day.
(the dent in his skull, on the other hand)

Loren, meanwhile, upon entry into this larger chamber...

Takes a good long look at the platforms.
Takes a good long look at the center of the room, as Tolone moves towards it.
Then takes a good long look at the control panel.

He thumbs over at it. "I'll start with the controls. Maybe there's something I can work out about the platforms' positions."

Though, he considers, as he starts investigating the device and the switches, a wrong move could leave him stuck here. His shoulders slouch, as if he were already contemplating that as certain fate and not mere possibility.

He shakes his head, as if to similarly buck the doubt that rides him. From his kit, he produces after some rummaging his medical computer.

Among other things, it can read an EKG. It's not the most orthodox way of testing the switches to see which ones are presently running current, but it's better than nothing. And once he works out which ones are currently transmitting or cutting off a current relative to their current position...

Well, there's math and tactical thinking involved, but at least it could cut some of the guesswork out of the deal.

DG: Loren Voss has used his Tool MediScan v7 toward his party's challenge, Strangely Connected Platforms.
<Pose Tracker> Jacqueline Barber has posed.

"Ah...it's nice to meet you!" Jacqueline greets, as Tabitha introduces herself. She seems nice enough, at least - Jacqueline relaxes, just a little. "Thank you!"

Jacqueline's spell doesn't quite work as planned, but fortunately the others have the rest covered. Quite handily, in fact - the vault door didn't really stand a chance.

She follows the others into the next room, which happens to be a very tall one, lined with platforms that raise and lower with a pull of a lever.

"Hm...it looks like its a matter of raising and lowering the platforms so you have a way up to that door." Jacqueline considers. "I imagine they must have used it to transport materials in the past."

She looks toward Lydia as she makes a suggest, and Jacqueline nods in agreement.

"Ah...yes! That might make things a bit more easier." She agrees. "I might even be able to put them above or below a platform too, to prevent them from raising or lowering, depending on what we need."

Sure, that was technically cheating...but she couldn't worry about that right now.

DG: Jacqueline Barber has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Strangely Connected Platforms.
<Pose Tracker> Tabitha deVriese has posed.

Tabitha hems as Tolone guides her. "Ah, of course," she says and steps in, taking a look around. She produces from some other pocket of her garb a....book? A book. She flips it open with a crisp motion from her prosthetic hand, which proceeds to detatch and float next to her head while she looks around.

"Chapter thirty-seven, verse 8," she mutters. "A merchant stood upon his land, watching his servants move; two and two they traveled, each unto another..."

"Tum te tum," she mutters, "Morals about treating your servants well, red curses and blue blessings--ah, OK, got it."

Then she leaps up, sailing toward the switches and setting about fiddling with them like she has some sort of plan.

In the very center of Faraway Lands, you find the Generator Complex. Rather
than a single room, it is a series of locked rooms. You make your way inside
of one; the locked door is not so difficult to tend to, be it by brute force
 or intellect.

In this room, you find an ancient generator. It runs from ceiling to floor,
a massive cylinder with large rods that tremble and shake with steady
vibrations. There are huge arcs and surges of lightning. Some of it lashes
out, striking the wall and sending sparks flying. Some of it jumps off, at
you. This generator, it seems, will need to be shut down -- because you need
to cross this room to get to the door at the other side.

That, it seems, is where the heart of this dungeon is -- and the legendary
 treasures said to hide there.
=Dungeon Conditions: Weaken, Injure===========================================
<Pose Tracker> Elhaym van Houten has posed.

"You're over-thinking things," Tolone tells Lydia. "Just follow instructions for now."

She looks to Loren. He connects his equipment to the switchboard. She speaks to Lydia -- quietly, discreetly, indeed invisibly, because she's using radio-telephony. 'See, the surface-dweller's getting it.'

Tolone looks silently at Tabitha as she reads from the Bible. Tolone does not seem to have an opinion about the words of the Good Lord.

AND THUS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAjR4_CbPpQ

The platforms begin to rise and fall! A systematic raising and lowering moves the two artificial girls up and down, and Tolone has positioned herself so that she is diagonal to Lydia. This politely means that when her twin tails bounce up and down merrily, they don't smack her in the face.

The configuration is tested... signals are analyzed... patterns are revealed...

"Stop," Tolone says.

"I think you can make this configuration. Seren, you should be able to jump from your position."

Tolone is nearly touching the ceiling with her head. The rest of the platforms make a scalable if somewhat arduous pattern between the control panel and the door forwards, although the last step is a gut-churning two-meter vault which happens to be aligned downwards. Tolone watches Jay in particular throughout this, and rocket-jumps down a moment afterwards.

"Good work," she states. "This kind of obstacle is encouraging, isn't it, Barber?"

<Pose Tracker> Lydia Seren has posed.

Lydia wonders why Tabitha is playing at being an Etone still. There's no real reason for it anymore right? She pretty decisively broke that cover, didn't she?

Regardless, while she can sympathize and even empathize with Tabitha on many fronts, quoting Grathas scripture to her is something she just can't do.

"Oh uh. Okay." Lydia says. She does not get smacked in the face by Tolone's hair.

She hops up to the next level pretty easily and will offer a hand up to anyone who could use it--but otherwise just waits for everybody to get up.

"Intereference is strong here." Lydia murmurs before her eyes widen and she readies her warhammer.

Electrical Shielding Augmented. Proceed

Lydia nods and moves onward.

The next room reveals a generator and wildly active generator, complete with electrical sparks lashing out every which way. "What a time to not have Noua Shax." She swings the hammer back and then just like before the gems glow and she swings it hard for the generator, fully intent on smashing it into submission. It's not the most elegant solution but it'd work.

DG: Lydia Seren has used her Tool Tiebreaker V 2.0 toward her party's challenge, Overloading Generator.
<Pose Tracker> Jacqueline Barber has posed.

"I do prefer obstacles that emphasize brain-power and problem-solving..." Jacqueline agrees to Tolone, as she asks about the obstacle. "They suit me quite a bit more."

They're able to make it up at the top, and waiting for them there is the generator room. It's active - the electricity is going to cause a problem. They'll need some way to deal with it.

Jacqueline takes a deep breath.

"Okay...one more time." She says. She focuses on the generator - thinks about the problem in front of them, considers the best way to deal with it. And then she gestures with her left hand once more.

And once more, the earth comes to her call. This time, however, the effect is more visible than before - the earth rises from the ground beneath the generator, winding up around it much like vines. With any luck, the earth should help ground it, causing the electricity lashing out to calm down somewhat and make it easier for the others to deal with.

DG: Jacqueline Barber has used her Tool Landscaper Crest toward her party's challenge, Overloading Generator.
<Pose Tracker> Loren Voss has posed.

With some mental statistics work once the analysis is complete -- and a little trial and error -- Loren contributes what he arguably does best to bypassing this particular obstacle, and soon rejoins the others.

He's remarkably unchatty towards their additional member in this expedition, falling behind even Tolone...

But then, he's not particularly chatty towards any of the others here, is he? Maybe 'unfriendly' is just his ground state.

In silence, the captain brings up the rear, Jay still the focus of his attentions as if he expects her to do something--

Until the door they enter through turns out to be the door to the generator, which is its own and very undeniably very immediate problem.

"Is that thing powering the place? --Damn, look at that," he says, pointing where the sparks are shooting off. "We won't be able to get past it without... shutting it down..."

He lapses into silence as he realizes the impossibility of shutting it down the normal way.

"We're going to have to break it, huh," he surmises, grimacing.

    "Fine."

In this he has something rather in common with Jay:

He exhales, and from nothing, there suddenly rises a great piercing spire of rock for the generator, continuing onwards as if propelled by some unseen force.

DG: Loren Voss has contributed a Brute Basic Action toward his party's challenge, Overloading Generator.
<Pose Tracker> Tabitha deVriese has posed.

Is she playing? Well, maybe it's hard to read when Tabitha's being authentic kind of in general...

Regardless, she tucks the book away once the reading is done, explaining nothing, possibly because Jay is here. Instead, she examines the generator; she actually gets the book back out, muttering some scripture while scratching her head like she were reading a confusing technical manual rather than the Word of the Lord, and finally just busts out her telescoping rod again. "Breaking things is fun, too!" she decides, and then whips the rod into hand like a spear and PITCHES IT, and tendrils of Gravity Ether wind along it as it accelerates extremely suddenly from 'throwing velocity' to 'punching holes in buildings' velocity.

DG: Tabitha deVriese has used her Tool Telescoping Lever toward her party's challenge, Overloading Generator.
<Pose Tracker> Elhaym van Houten has posed.

Tolone doesn't respond further to Lydia. Is this a cool senior act?

"Hm," Tolone says to Jay at her reply. There may be the air that she was fishing for an answer she did not receive, but Jay probably has better things to do with her life than worry over-much about the judgment of some weirdo with screwface.

Tolone studies the generator room as Jay gets to work, creating a ground from the ground. "Seems likely," she answers Loren.

And lo and behold she is getting her arm off again. At least this time it's less dramatic. Maybe she broke somethig and doesn't want to make it worse? Unclear. "No obvious fuel source... could be gathering some ambient energy," Tolone comments.

There is an Etheric ripple...

Other than the enormous gravity one, of course. As Tabitha uses the weakest force, Tolone uses another one. There is a snap of harmless crackling lightning that touches her, and Tolone comments neutrally, "It's almost a shame."

Then she shoots it with a laser beam! AGAIN! GODDAMMIT

That's one destroyed generator. Lydia starts it off with a mega hammer swing and Jay follows up by summoning vines to absorb the electricity. It's still not exactly safe but at least the sparks will be more predictable and as such easier to avoid. Loren punches a hole through it with a ROCK of his own and, well..

Tabitha ALSO slams the thing hard with the aid of gravity--but it's not enough! This is a generator that has lasted thousands of years, it'll take more than that to finish off this generator!

At which point Tolone uses t he power of LASER and, yeah, the generator makes an unfortunate noise before shutting down entirely.

She isn't responded to by Tolone and as she skates ahead she thinks, 'Man she uses her robots so well. so cool.' Yeah she may have misunderstood Tolone's power set a bit.

Regardless this leads to a library. Lydia plucks a book off a shelf and says, "Oh."

She holds the book open for Tabitha, Tolone, and Jay to see. "It's in Zeboim. OS do you know Zeboim?"

It is unneccessary for our purpose

"You can just say no." Lydia mutters.

<Pose Tracker> Jacqueline Barber has posed.

Jacqueline's not sure what to think about that response. But, it's not a directly negative response, at least.

Working together, they're able to get through the generator room, and what they find at the end is...a library!

"My goodness..." Jacqueline says breathlessly. Her eyes practically sparkle at the sight of so many books here. She has a noted weakness for books - but then Lydia grabs a book and opens it up before showing off to them, revealing that everything is written in Zeboim.

"...Ah... I suppose I should have expected that..." Jacqueline says, her enthusiasm dented a little. "But even if I can't read them, this is still an impressive find... I wonder what they say..."

Certainly it would be okay if she took one home with her? ...Or two...or a lot of them...

She hesitates for a moment.

"...Is this what you all were looking for?" She asks carefully.

<Pose Tracker> Tabitha deVriese has posed.

Having ruined the generator, Tabitha joins the group in the library! And...

Pulls out a notebook, which she immediately starts writing notes down in with the help of her floating weirdo gravity hand. She looks to what Lydia pulls up. "...nope! I think from the graphs it must be some kinda math, though."

At least that one looks kind of like an equal sign, so, sure, why not.

<Pose Tracker> Elhaym van Houten has posed.

Tolone turns her head and looks at the manual.

CAN she read Zeboim?

She seems to be studying it intently. Something, very quietly, goes click-click-whirr in her eye.

"Looks to be repair manuals," Tolone comments. "There's no need to sanitize such information. Wait-"

Tolone advances towards the shelf and takes two books off of it. She opens one, examines it, compares it to the other, and nods.

"Good to go. Your assistance is appreciated, Barber."
