Everyone who comes to hunt at Aifread's Hunting Ground knows to turn to the
authority. You open your inventory, and pull out the book in question...

 	***

 Welcome to Aifread's Hunting Ground!

An expansive, rolling plain stretches out before you. Rocky cliffs,
treacherous plateaus, and not-so-distant mountains make these lands more of
a maze than one might expect. Knowing that dangerous, but profitable
monsters are here to hunt, though... that might make one eager to get on
with it. However, blindly charging into the hunting grounds is not
 recommended! One might get lost.

Or make too much noise and frighten off the game. Or, worse, make noise and
lure things in that prey on you. Caution is recommended for the eager
 hunter.

<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

Layna had been planning this trip for a little while. They took a ship from Meribia, crossing the seas to the Glenwood continent. There they departed from Pendrago with it's perpetual rain and headed toward their destination - Aifread's Hunting Ground.

Named for the infamous pirate captain of legend, it was famous for its magnificent views, rare, valuable game...and, of course, rumors that the captain's treasure lay here still.

Those who knew Layna would now well what her interest in this place was.

As they arrive in the Hunting Grounds, she draws a well-worn copy of a certain book and pages through it.

"This place can be a little confusing. Try not to get lost, aye?" She says. She clambers on top of a rock and draws her telescope from her waist, using it to gaze out at the land before them.

There's a wide grin on her face. Layna's...rather excited. Usually, she only gets this excited when she's in the middle of a good fight. She probably shouldn't get too excited, though, or she might end up falling off that rock...

Wasn't she supposed to be an adult?

DG: Layna Manydays has used her Tool Captain's Telescope toward her party's challenge, Where to Begin.
<Pose Tracker> Talise Gianfair has posed.

Growing up on a pirate ship, Talise heard more than a few tales of the legendary Captain Aifread.

Actually she heard a sufficiently diverse range of tales from enough different times that she eventually concluded there must've been six or seven Aifreads. Still, a good story's a good story, and any treasure of Aifread's is enough to entice the ex-pirate turned bladesinger, and she's smiling a little as she moves along behind Layna, armoured up and with her sword in hand. She even brought her ARM along, though ammunition is going to be a challenge on Lunar.

"I bet," she concedes as she watches the way Layna practically bubbles.

Talise can't blame her.

It's hard, of course, to be quiet when you're wearing half-plate and chain. Talise wraps her arms around herself and draws her traveler's cloak tight, easing forward with care. Excited or no, she does rather a better job than Layna of restraining her exuberance.

"What does the book say, Layna?" she asks the older pirate, keeping her voice low as if fearing stirring up a nest of... of something bad.

DG: Talise Gianfair has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Where to Begin.
<Pose Tracker> Sephilia Lampbright has posed.

Sephilia Lampbright is excited to be along! She's got a fresh new journal to work with, having left her first one with her Dad for inspection and edification. George Lampbright was pretty excited by it!

"Me an' Chauncey got mapping! Trust us to keep us all on course, Captain!" Sephilia says with a salute to Layna.

DG: Sephilia Lampbright has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Where to Begin.
<Pose Tracker> Tethelle Cirdian has posed.

It's a shorter trip than Tethelle was expecting, but her primary experience with ship travel was going from southern Aquvy to eastern Ignas and that is not a short trip.

"I won't get lost if you don't," Tethelle says; honestly, she's pretty enthused to be here, if only because she so rarely gets to just explore without the weight of the world being on her shoulders. She doesn't know all the stories of Aifread, but she got a couple of the highlights while they were sailing.

Tethelle has one hand filled with a bottle - Lanval's bottle, as it turns out. Her other hand is resting on her sword's hilt, while the sword itself is still in its carrier over her back.

DG: Tethelle Cirdian has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Where to Begin.
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lanval has posed.

Lanval seemed hesitant to want to come to the Glenwood continent at all. It is not too hard to imagine why, what with it being outside of the (relative) comforts of Her boundary, and all. There's that higher ambient amount of Malevolence to contend with - a dangerous spiritual force that his kind are especially sensitive and susceptible to.
So he asked (maybe more like begged) very nicely (debatable) that Tethelle help hold his vessel, just to be safe. He has yet to manifest, doing that Seraphim equivalent of huddling up nice and cozy within his current residence as he tries to keep easy about the idea of being out and about in a place he's only ever known as being a scary place to be.
On the plus side, he's behaving.
On the downside, he's not helping.
Maybe that he's behaving is actually helping?

DG: Seraph Lanval has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward his party's challenge, Where to Begin.
<Pose Tracker> Fei Fong Wong has posed.

Fei also is uncertain about going to Glenwood but if Fox Company wants to go, he'll go in case he can help or at least stop something terrible from happening.

"Huh," He says. "So this is why there was a Captain Aifread in the tournament." He looks over to Layna for a long moment before looking back down at the floor.

He draws out a map to help with the maze. It won't help people keep quiet but it will make traveling easier. Of course, he has to draw this while they move, but he seems to be able to make an accurate enough map.

"We can cross reference." Fei tells Sephilia. "In case we miss something. Always a good idea to have a couple cartographers."

He glances towards Tethelle too but doesn't comment to her just yet.

DG: The party led by Layna Manydays has failed this challenge! The party gained 10 exploration! If anyone needs to use party
management commands, do so now. Otherwise, the next round's GM may begin the next round with +dungeon/draw.
<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

"Guidelines, mostly. Don't make too much noise, don't follow tracks you're not familiar with, don't go blindly charging in...that sorta thing." Layna reads off, lowering her telescope again to take another quick peek through the book.

"You doin' okay, Lanval? Just let us know if it starts gettin' to be too much for ya, aye?" She asks, up from her perch. As overexcited as she may be, she does at least seem to be keeping her balance just fine. And, eventually, she collapses her telescope and returns it to her waist.

She's got their heading.

"Aye, lad, that it was." She says with a chuckle toward Fei. It might be easy enough to put the pieces together on that one.

The party moves forward, and as they move on it turns out that having two people on map duty is a good idea - the way forward is very much like a maze, and it's easy to get lost or turned around. It even almost happens a few times, and after a few false starts where they find themselves ending up right where they started, they do eventually find a path that seems to leave onward.

It just takes them longer than they expected.

DG: Tethelle Cirdian has drawn a new Challenge.

=Dungeon Conditions: Bad Luck, Stupify========================================
<Pose Tracker> Tethelle Cirdian has posed.

Well, at least they know where they're going. Mostly?

Tethelle doesn't mind a long walk, but she prefers a walk where they know where they're going. Unfortunately, the environment is different enough around here that she honestly does not know which way to go, and she certainly doesn't have a good map - that would eliminate the point of the hunting ground, wouldn't it?

"Maybe you should keep a map," she suggests to Sephilia, before glancing at Fei. Isn't he an artist or something? "Or you."

Tethelle keeps the bottle in hand while she walks around. She nearly walks into a set of tracks before she stops, foot hovering just above squashing said tracks before she hops backwards, looking down. "Does your book have anything to say about this? Or, ah, does nayone recognize it? I don't, and I don't know if we should be going toward or away."

DG: Tethelle Cirdian has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Identifying Animal Tracks.
<Pose Tracker> Sephilia Lampbright has posed.

Sephy's got her dad's journal out, and is comparing animal tracks that he's identified. "Dad knows all kinds of stuff about animals," she declares. "This one looks like it's..." She pages through. "Huh. I know I saw these once or twice in here, but I was on Filgaia and there's all kinds of new and different stuff there compared to here..."

She may be a bit.

DG: Sephilia Lampbright has used her Tool Dad's Journal toward her party's challenge, Identifying Animal Tracks.
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lanval has posed.

Lanval remains silent to Layna's queries. Maybe that's a silent 'yes, I sure will.' What with the initial problems about making any headway further in, it might be best not to push the issue too hard.
From his vantage point where Tethelle keeps his bottle held tight, Lanval gets himself a... view? Of the tracks. How sensory perception works when one decides to hunker down in their own vessel is kind of odd. Seraphim physicality is a strange and arcane subject indeed.
"Iiiii... don't knoooow." Lanval 'helpfully' says.
Man, for however old their Seraph friend is, one might feel slighted. The mortals among them have only so much time afforded to them, but often are possessed of at least some curiosity or wonder to go out and seek new and interesting ideas and challenges. Did Lanval really spend his incredible allowance of time upon creation just drinking the days away back over in Meribus? (All signs say 'very yes.')
Some kind of guidance or assistance, ANY kind of ancient wisdom, could be of help here!
"I don't know what that iiiish," Lanval trails off as he repeats with a bit further detail, seeming uneasy about the prospects. This is technically true, and thus counts as wisdom from the divine.
     It also doesn't help any...
"Oh! Thash riiiiight," Lanval's mood brightens considerably, "your father'sh a great explorer! Ha ha!" This may have brightened his mood some. That, or he remembers the delicious meat pie FEEEEEEEEEEASHT.

DG: Seraph Lanval has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward his party's challenge, Identifying Animal Tracks.
<Pose Tracker> Talise Gianfair has posed.

Talise takes a second to check on Lanval's vessel. Maybe it's something about being beyond the Boundary.

Finding their way is a tough go - especially since Talise has never been to this part of Glenwood. She ends up just following along behind the people with the maps.

The tracks, though, leave her frowning. Sinking into a crouch, she squints at the depressions in the turf, then looks up into the distance, sniffing a couple times as if to check if they're downwind of something that might be dangerous.

"...We're better off being safe than sorry," she advises Tethelle before straightening up, moving both hands to Rastaban's hilt and looking out over the grasstops as though scanning the horizon for whatever might be out here. "Even if all that's out here is cute bunny rabbits, you never know if there's something out here that eats cute bunny rabits. And people."

As Lanval chimes in from inside the bottle, Talise blinks a couple of times and glances his and Tethelle's way. "...You sure you're okay, Lanval?"

DG: Talise Gianfair has contributed a Wits Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Identifying Animal Tracks.
<Pose Tracker> Fei Fong Wong has posed.

Fei Fong Wong doesn't comment on the pieces nor that he put them together. He looked at Layna for a little too long there, though, which might be telling in of itself.

He does frown though and shift his duties to start sketching the tracks on his sketchpad too. "Hmm..." Fei says to himself, before looking over to Sephilia's journal, then back at his pad again.

It'll be fine. It'll work out. It's okay. It's fine.

It's fine.

Fei scribbles more. Periodically, he gives Lanval a concerned look but he doesn't, again, speak. His looks say all they that he needs to. He is worried.

"This is pretty tough. Don't normally do this." Fei murmurs.

DG: Fei Fong Wong has used his Tool Artist's Toolkit toward his party's challenge, Identifying Animal Tracks.
<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

Layna glances over to the tracks and then flips through the book again, back to one of the pages she mentioned earlier.

"There's a list here of all the tracks in the Grounds...says there's nothing to fear if you've got pluck and fighting spirit!" Layna replies with a grin, stowing the book away again. She either neglected to read the asterisk, or just ignored it...but either way, she draws out her telescope and zooms in to give it a real good luck.

"Looks to be...I dunno, this one?" She suggests, pointing to the book. Talise says it might be better to be safe, but...well, Layna has always been a bit of a risk-taker.

DG: Layna Manydays has used her Tool Captain's Telescope toward her party's challenge, Identifying Animal Tracks.

===================<* CHALLENGE - Over-sized Bear Traps *>====================
|Type: Exploration |Dungeon Ability: Brute |Challenge Rating: 2 |
--------------------------< Challenge Information: >--------------------------
We are proud to announce that the first printing of Going Hunting: A
Traveler's Guide to Aifread's Hunting Ground comes with a free over-sized
bear trap. This trap is sufficient to catch the medium-to-large sized game
to be found on the Hunting Grounds. To properly set the trap, please take
 the following steps:
 1) Remove trap from its paper wrapping.
 2) Dig a four foot deep hole, six feet wide.
 3) Prepare trap by winding it backward to open teeth; then place beef or
 other bait in trap.
 4) Wait until your prey approaches, and then see its spring-loaded jaws
 clamp down on its leg!

CAUTION: DO NOT STEP IN TRAP. EVER.

=Dungeon Conditions: Tire, Treasure===========================================
<Pose Tracker> Tethelle Cirdian has posed.

Tethelle Cirdian never asked how the Seraphim see from inside their... things. Bottle, in Lanval's case. Now she's kind of curious.

"I agree," she says, when 'better safe than sorry' comes up. Which is unusual for Tethelle, but maybe she just wants to do treasure hunting rather than fight something... or maybe she's trying to figure out how to juggle a sword and Lanval's bottle at the same time. Maybe she can ask him to carry himself if it comes up? "We're not here to fight monsters."

Though she wouldn't say no if it came to that, probably.

Right now, it seems like it might come to that. There is a big stomping sound in the distance, but it sounds like it's coming closer. Tethelle perks up, tilting her head and trying to hear where it is. Maybe it's whatever made the tracks they were looking at...

A trap would probably be useful right about now, huh.

<Pose Tracker> Sephilia Lampbright has posed.

Sephilia brightens. "We could dig a pit trap! I...I'm sure I have Chauncey's digging claws here somewhere..."

She does not.

Chauncey can still help though! Somehow. He's very talented. "Dad taught me how to make all kinds of this sort of thing!"

DG: Sephilia Lampbright has contributed a Brute Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Over-sized Bear Traps.
<Pose Tracker> Fei Fong Wong has posed.

AND A TRAP YOU SHALL HAVE!

Well, no, Fei doesn't know how to use traps. He traps animals by jumping them and beating them in hand to hand combat like Deus intended, but he does say, "Seems like something's turning back around. At this rate it'll be upon us."

He uses this opportunity to duck behind a tree, placing his back up against it in an attempt to prepare for trouble and to make it double.

Meanwhile there's a heavy rustling through the grounds, flitting between shubbery and trees, and making quite the racket. The only thing for certain? It's getting closer.

And closer...

There isn't much time yet, but digging a pit might work. But then Fei says, "What if it can fly?"

!!!!

DG: Fei Fong Wong has contributed a Brute Basic Action toward his party's challenge, Over-sized Bear Traps.
[OOC] Sephilia Lampbright says, "can we fix it in bluray"
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lanval has posed.

"Aaaah... I-I've jusht never been in... Glenwood." Lanval confesses from the safety of the bottle. The situation has proven to be awkward for all parties involved a few times over since they've all become entangled in one another's lives. Talk comes concerning the trap, setting it up...
Naturally, he does not participate in any part of digging or setting up the trap, but at least he's not doing anything like lounging on top of it. Even he knows that this is not a time for lounging around on random pieces of key items or important architecture. (Even if he is presently lounging around inside his vessel, being safely carried about by Tethelle.)
...Then Fei brings up 'what if it can fly?'
"Hmm... though I'd hate to part with shome of what'sh in here, I got an idea... hey. Tethelle, would ya mind jusht... taking off the cork, tip the bottle a teenshy weenshy bit?"
His idea is to add a dollop of tasty alcoholic brew onto the trap, once set up. That might coax a theoretical flying creature down to the ground to get trapped... or he might waste some precious, precious, precious booze.
It is a risk he seems willing to take.

DG: Seraph Lanval has contributed a Brute Basic Action toward his party's challenge, Over-sized Bear Traps.
<Pose Tracker> Talise Gianfair has posed.

Talise doesn't know all that much about traps either, to be completely fair.

Althena only knows why they have to set a bear trap. Talise just blinks a couple of times, then scratches her head, curling gauntleted fingers behind one pointed ear. "I'm fairly sure we don't have enough time to dig a hole that big," she points out, "since whatever it is, it's big and it's coming this way."

Taking a moment to consider the logistical hurdle they face, Talise checks her inventory for any digging equipment she might have.

That is, none at all.

"Bother," Talise mutters.

She tries something else. Firing up her gauntlets, she reaches into the grass and wrenches something out laboriously. Then she sets out something else, then dives into hiding.

She leaves behind a rope in her hand, tied to a huge branch propping up a ridiculously massive boulder, beneath which sits the trap and a piece of meat. There is even a small sign beside it.

    <=== F U D

DG: Talise Gianfair has used her Tool Ogre Power Gauntlets toward her party's challenge, Over-sized Bear Traps.
<Pose Tracker> Tethelle Cirdian has posed.

"If it was flying, we wouldn't hear the footsteps," Tethelle points out. It seems reasonable to her.

Tethelle doesn't use traps, either - she never bothered to learn, lobster traps excepted - but at least the digging part seems easy enough. Or would, if they had more time and tools than they do; bare-handed, and in a hurry, it becomes a little more complicated. She helps Talise move things around instead, getting the branch set up just right.

"Oh, certainly," she says to Lanval, before opening the bottle and splashing it like perfume around the trap - though there's still some perfectly good unadulterated meat in the little. Then she tries to look into the bottle. "How much is in there, anyhow?" Is it magic Seraph liquor or just a regular bottle he filled up with regular booze? Tethelle does not drink any, but she does sniff to see if she can recognize it before recorking it up. "Let's get under cover!"

DG: Tethelle Cirdian has contributed a Brute Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Over-sized Bear Traps.
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lanval has posed.

It smells a lot like the Quartermaster's Stash...
     ...
Well, that explains where that went to.

<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

Layna takes a moment to consider this. There was something coming this way...and they needed to set a trap for it. As a pirate, she knew a thing or two about that.

But did she have any on her?

Unfortunately, no.

She does, however, take a moment to witness Talise's expert crafting, as well as Lanval's noble sacrifice.

"I think we've got the makings of a good plan here, aye. Now we just need to find something to hide behind...and once it shows up, we'll wrestle it to the ground!" She remarks with a grin, cracking her knuckles.

'Running away' would probably be the smarter option...but what would the fun be in that? Besides, if the trap worked as they hoped it would, they wouldn't even need to worry about it!

Just in case, though, she draws her drill out and begins working on a little backup plan...

DG: Layna Manydays has used her Tool Arm-Mounted Drill toward her party's challenge, Over-sized Bear Traps.

<Pose Tracker> Fei Fong Wong has posed.

Fei says, "I guess that makes sense." to Tethelle.

But nevertheles, something bursts out of the bushes suddenly in a swirl of yellow feathers! It leaps forward and hovers for a moment over the pit! And then it flaps its wings for several moments, slowly starting to hover over the pit and make its way to the other side, its eyes red with rage!!

"It's... a fat cucco?!" Fei says.

BGM: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-tcoGjQblA

It dramatically continues to sort of fly over the pit. It looks like it's going to make it, though it's really working up a sweat!

"You can do it..." Fei whispers. "You can do it!" He then shouts, clenching his fists as he is suddenly admiring of this creature's determination and grit.

And then the tree that Layna was working on with her drill cracks and crashes right into the Fat Cucco, sending it crashing into the pit with a 'WARK!'. It's definitely a fat cucco after all. That's what it is. Gotta be.

"...Well," Fei says. "I think we can move on now."

DG: Seraph Lanval has drawn a new Challenge.

<Pose Tracker> Talise Gianfair has posed.

"I didn't think Lunar had cuccos," Talise admits. "I thought we just had chickens."

She lowers her eyelids. "...This is somehow Riesenlied's fault, I bet."

<Pose Tracker> Fei Fong Wong has posed.

"I never heard a cucco go 'Wark' either..." Fei admits quietly.

<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lanval has posed.

Something went right today, so far. There's a moment of relief to be had for everyone once that last fat cucco(?) is neutralized. There remains a lot of angry and noisy flapping, but that probably won't bring forth any new problems. Indeed, it is now a non-problem. One less issue. The hunt can continue in earnest.
There is a low growling that rumbles across the hunting grounds that will grab attention away from matters of whether or not Lunar is about to have an invasive species problem.
A large prowling shadow moves through the brush nearby, compromising the hiding place everyone might have been using while waiting for the... er... fat cucco to fall into their trap. All of a sudden there is a great big shadow about to leap upon them...!
Followed by a foamy, bubbly burst of water from within the bottle, deflecting the owner of the shadow - a very large, muscular, hungry tiger with huge teeth. Incidentally, the book's on page 172, which sure says a lot about it and will be hilarious to read after the fact when they don't die horribly to it. (Maybe.)
"Mmmph," Lanval sounds disoriented from within the bottle, "that'sh trouble!" He's unlikely to be able to help much more beyond that first volley, but at least there is space for Tethelle to gently put him down.

DG: Seraph Lanval has contributed a Combat Basic Action toward his party's challenge, Sabertooth Tiger.
<Pose Tracker> Talise Gianfair has posed.

"I'm not even sure it is a cucco. Must be one of those new species," Talise muses with a shrug back at Fei. "Unless it's Riese's doing."

The sound of something growling is impossible to miss, of course. Talise slows, tilting her head to listen to where the sound is coming from. Those sharp half-Beastwoman ears perk just a little.

The bubbles aren't the only thing deflecting the tiger. There's also a loud *BANG* as Talise fires a single round from her shotgun, aiming to intercept the lunging monster in midair before it can get ahold of one of her squishier friends (read: big fluffy Chauncey) or one of her spoopier ones (read: Lanval).

One round is all Talise spares, conceding to Lunar's lack of guns. "Trouble, I can deal with," she grunts as she takes Rastaban in hand and pushes forward. The ancient blade weaves dangerously as she waits for an opening.

She takes it. Darting to the side with a jingle of mail, she lashes out with a quick slash, slicing to try and sever one of the tiger's legs, then whirling to bring her blade up beneath its chest in a rising slash. She almost seems to dance with it.

DG: Talise Gianfair has used her Tool Trench Sweeper Shotgun toward her party's challenge, Sabertooth Tiger.
<Pose Tracker> Sephilia Lampbright has posed.

Sephilia grabs Chauncey, embiggens him, and then gets violent! A bold heart!

<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

Layna's not entirely sure what that thing is. It's like a big, horse-sized bird? It's probably best not to dwell on this any further. That way lies madness.

Soon, however, they hear a noise from the brush. An aggressive sort of growling noise. It isn't long before a huge tiger lunges out at them, clearly quite hungry!

Layna leaps back as Talise fires off a round at the beast, then Layna charges in herself with a grin.

"Aye! I'm much more fond of trouble I can punch in the teeth." She agrees. And attempt to punch it in the teeth she does - of course, considering this beast's teeth are big and sharp, that might not go as well for her as she hopes.

But hey, she sure was going to try!

DG: Layna Manydays has contributed a Combat Basic Action toward her party's challenge, Sabertooth Tiger.
<Pose Tracker> Fei Fong Wong has posed.

Fei says, "Sweet!" what. "A tiger!" He pauses for a moment, squinting at it. "With large fangs!"

He reaches into his pocket and draws out the mighty RPS Badge, holding it forward towards the sabretooth tiger that is unlikely to have any particular reaction to it. This time, he's using it just to attract the tiger's eye.

He flicks it up into the air to distract it before leaping in and throwing a fist covered in fire towards the dragon's face, trying to clobber it right between the eyes!

"Man, I wonder how it tastes." Fei says.

He will naturally get out de way of any Chauncey Wrestling Moves. He doesn't comment further on the 'cucco'. There's dinner to be had!

DG: Fei Fong Wong has used his Tool RPS Badge toward his party's challenge, Sabertooth Tiger.
<Pose Tracker> Tethelle Cirdian has posed.

Tethelle doesn't know many Lunarian species, so the fat... cucco? doesn't draw a lot of confusion.

"I don't think that's going to hunt us," Tethelle says, sounding relieved. "It's too..." hmm. How do you say your wildlife is too fat? "Well, it's not interested in us. I imagine it would rather have something that's easier to catch - "

Tethelle hears the shadow before she sees it. Unfortunately for Lanval, Tethelle does not gently put the bottle down; she just kind of drops him while the gout of water erupts (though, thankfully, in brush, so it's a relatively soft landing... relatively... though he might tip over if he doesn't get his spraying under control).

Fortunately, she reacts damn fast, drawing her sword and stepping forward at once, whirling it through a dramatic arc that incidentally builds up a lot of momentum and would deflect incoming strikes if any were coming at her before slashing in a diagonal art at the tiger. "Back!" she calls, her Medium glowing at her hip as she empowers her weapon with a faintly radiant haze.

DG: Tethelle Cirdian has used her Tool Icon of Equites toward her party's challenge, Sabertooth Tiger.

<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lanval has posed.

BANG, goes Talise's shotgun. There is a blood splatter and a loud groan from the tiger as it rests against the ground for a moment, stunned, allowing Talise to come in swinging with Rastaban. She gets in one good gash before it swats with one paw. Time for another to tag in...
Chauncey boldly wrestles with the tiger, pushing it back... but it gets one front paw loose, not quite pushed back far enough nor forcefully enough to stop it from swiping wildly.
Tethelle draws her blade and, with the blessing of Equites, easily bats aside any claw swipes that might make another go at her friends and/or hangers-on.
The sabretoothed tiger snarls, fed up with all this, as it catches Layna's fist between its teeth when she goes in for the knockout blow. By chance, her fist and said teeth are angled in such a way that they are puncturing through the little gap made between curled fingers...
Its maw kinda makes a scissors shape from the side? Fei's fist is unambiguously rock, which is also on fire but in the cosmic scale is rock. Fei punches it in the face, as is the natural order of things, sending it tumbling into a motionless heap (and ensuring that Layna now has a cool sabretoothed tiger tooth held firmly in her hand, which is bitchin').
Lanval's bottle rolls about on the ground, unattended. He's cheering loudly at just how the lot of them deal with it... until he realizes that there runs the risk they might forget to pick him back up. Oh no! (We'll just scroll past all the begging for time's sake.)
[OOC] Seraph Lanval says, "who's got next."
[OOC] Tethelle Cirdian says, "Oh, I can"

<Pose Tracker> Tethelle Cirdian has posed.

Tethelle Cirdian carves a path - literally, she does not slow down once she delivers the blow, but circles around the tiger and strikes from the new side. Then keeps going, deeper into the hunting ground - where one tiger is, another is soon to follow. "Come on," she suggests - though she's not so fast that she will stop Layna from taking the tooth.

Because that's cool.

Also, good news: Tethelle scoops up the bottle en route, wedging it awkwardly in the sword carrier and keeping her sword in hand. The bottle keeps swinging wildly and bumping against Tethelle's hip, but it doesn't fall out.

Eventually, Tethelle slows down, when they get close to a river. Tethelle was inclined to ignore said river for a while beyond using it as a reference point, but they're pretty close to a lake, and...

"Are those fish?" Tethelle asks. She climbs a tree and then swings out over the lake itself to get a better look, her cape swirling around her. "It is! Do you think we could catch some?" She seems a little wistful. Tethelle likes seafood, and that was in short supply in Ignas; she's been eating a lot of fish since she came to Lunar. And this is the biggest fish she's seen yet...

DG: Tethelle Cirdian has used her Tool Feather Cape toward her party's challenge, The Glenwood Angler.

<Pose Tracker> Talise Gianfair has posed.

Talise keeps Rastaban at the ready as she follows Tethelle through the hunting ground. Well, Tethelle and Lanval, considering that her shorter friend has a bottled buddy right now.

As they near the river, Talise brightens just a touch. "I think they are! They look pretty big, too," she says as she finally sheathes her sword. Moving forward, Talise slides off her gauntlets to reach into her cloak, coming out with a few spools of fishing wire and a selection of lures.

Surprise: Talise likes to fish.

For lack of a fishing pole, Talise breaks off a stick of about the right length and secures a length of wire to it. "Looks like a spiny walleye," she remarks as she baits the hook. "The spikes are pretty deadly if you don't clean the fish right. We'll have to be careful. Oh, and, uh." She looks back at Tethelle, then Layna. "Y'all might have to pull back really hard if one of us gets a bite."

Talise casts, and waits, her lure bobbing in the water.

DG: Talise Gianfair has contributed a Agility Basic Action toward her party's challenge, The Glenwood Angler.
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lanval has posed.

Lanval listens in on the raging river. He is a Seraph of the element of water. He kind of has an ear and an eye and a heart and maybe a liver for just about all things water. There's that faint thrum of Malevolence that courses through this land that is unsettling - it is said that water, itself, tends to be vulnerable to corruption by its very nature. A necessity for life, but so easily shaped around whatever contains it.
     ...And yet...
"Thoshe aren't Hellions!" Lanval's voice says from the happy little safe place that is his vessel, and that might be all the invitation they need to freely collect some tasty fish. "Hmmmm... ha ha! I got an ideeeeaaaa... don'tcha worry 'bout any... pullin', Talishe!"
With a nice, peaceful-sounding sigh, a great huge bubble is produced from the bottle. Kind of like what happens when Lanval decides to 'smoke' his pipe. The bubble floats a ways down towards the water, and...
...an Aifred Walleye finds itself caught inside, as the bubble rises up.
There is now one flopping, angry, confused Aifred Walleye trapped in a magical bubble floating to and fro above the party. It is doing its damndest to break free. It will, that's a bubble, no matter how magical. Bubbles pop in time. The question is when.
"Ha ha! Thish ish kind of fun," it's good to know that Lanval's fighting past his unease of the environs and enjoying himself, but, "shoon, when it comesh down, get ready to catch it!"
Easy for him to say when he's not the one who has to physically be there to do so!!! Who knows how much fight this particular one will have when it hits the ground!

Fei performs his Xenogears victory pose for a few moments as the battle results are tabulated.

Afterwards, Fei tries to help catch the fish the old fashioned way, by throwing his hand in there and pulling it back out. He has not read the manual, in fact, and has already plunged his hand inside the water when Talise mentions that.

Fei looks over to Talise for a few moments. "Like, poisonous to the touch deadly or... poisonous to eat deadly?"

He starts sweating, now too nervous to pull his hand back out of the water.

DG: Fei Fong Wong has contributed a Agility Basic Action toward his party's challenge, The Glenwood Angler.
<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

Layna pulls her hand out of the beast's mouth and comes out with one of its big teeth. She studies it with a grin, and stores it away safely. She's definitely going to do something cool with it - maybe she'll make it into a knife or a necklace or something.

But she'll decide that later!

For right now, they're approaching a river, and Tethelle raises a valid question. They had been going for a while...it wouldn't be a bad idea to stop and grab some food.

"Aye, I wager we can." She says with a grin, cracking her knuckles again. If there was anything a pirate knew how to do besides pillage and plunder, it was fish.

Talise will take care of that, though, because it look like Lanval has a plan.

"Clever, lad, very clever! I like the way you think." She comments with a grin. She'll be ready to wrestle it to the ground. But as she's doing this -

"Don't worry, lass! We won't make you do anything you don't wanna do." She calls to Sephilia.

<Pose Tracker> Tethelle Cirdian has posed.

All right, so maybe fish was not the reward they hoped to get from Aifread's Hunting Grounds.

It seems to be effective enough.

Tethelle is already up in the tree when Lanval levitates a fish in a bubble. A spiny fish with pointy bits in a bubble. This seems like a poor idea, and Tethelle makes it worse by assisting in popping the bubble - by jumping out of the tree and slashing at the floating fish, attempting to kill it before it lands.

Unfortunately this means that fish, Tethelle and all land on top of Layna. Hopefully she got hit by Tethelle and not the spiky bits, as Tethelle is much less poisonous. "Sorry!" she says - though she makes sure the fish is down by smacking it with the flat of her sword.

Meanwhile, Talise fishes up a great example of... salmon? Who knew there were salmon here? Looks tasty, though. Fei can grab another salmon if he's fast! So can Sephilia (though she can also put hers back if she doesn't want dinner).

"So... how do we carry this?"

DG: Layna Manydays has drawn a new Challenge.

The rare amber-winged roc has its mating grounds on some of the highest
plateaus of Aifread's Hunting Grounds. Though the meat of the roc is stringy
and worthless, the creature's eggs are among the most succulent and rarest

patrons as far away as Pentagulia!

<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

Layna finds a Tethelle landing right on top of her. Well, it was better than the alternative. She just offers her a grin and a nonchalant wave.

"Ah, no worries, lass." She replies, then stands up and brushes herself off.

Once they figure out transportation, they're off. Their hunt for treasure(and dinner) is not yet over, after all!

As they make their way through the hunting grounds, however...there is a vicious shriek as a gigantic bird - an amber-winged roc, as some of them might be able to identify - divebombs them, talons flashing dangerously.

Layna leaps out of the way just in time.

"Guess we found our flying creature, aye, lad?" Layna comments with a grin, then cracks her knuckles. "Look alive, me hearties! I think we've got another fight on her hands."

She charges in, then, to deliver a strong uppercut to the creature.

<Pose Tracker> Talise Gianfair has posed.

"Iiiii wouldn't touch 'em without a glove!" Talise says with a big smile for Fei.

She does, at least, end up with a salmon. "Hell yeah, a blueback!" she crows as she slings the fish over her shoulder. "We're good for food for awhile, guys!"

As if the huge fish Lanval levitated up wasn't nummy enough already. "Layna," she calls down with a worried blink - and then the pirate turns out to be alright.

There are worse things to be under than Tethelle, Talise rationalizes.

They press onward. Talise somehow stuffs an entire salmon into her inventory - and then, with a shriek, they have company.

Again Talise fires a round of buckshot, trying to catch the roc in midair with a startlingly quick reaction. She doesn't fire anything else, though. She pivots away, trading gun for sword, then standing her ground and waiting.

A fierce grin crosses her face. "It's a big one!" she shouts. "Not all that edible, but that's fine by me!"

Talise waits for the rochen to swoop down on them again. Patiently, she stands firm, Rastaban held at her side. Only when the huge bird descends does she slide into its path -

There's a sudden hiss as blades of grass around Talise divide from one another along a perfect crescent arc. She drops to a landing on the opposite side of the roc from where she was.

The roc may end up losing a wing from the experience.

<Pose Tracker> Fei Fong Wong has posed.

Fei pulls his hand out of the pond before he poisons himself. "Wildlife here is scarier than I expected." Pause. "Well, thinking about my expectations on reflection..."

And then of course there's the roc. Fei throws himself out of the way of the first roc's swoop and he frowns faintly. Is this ALSO Riesenlied's fault? He bites his lip uncertainly, but he can't say it's...not Riesenlied's fault either.

He raises his badge, about to try the same technique as before but--he stops himself.

"It's a roc." Fei thinks. "...What beats...roc...?"

Fei frowns and reaches into his artist's toolkit, drawing out two pieces of paper.

"I know what I must do." Fei tells everyone, though he looks at Sephilia for this in particular. He runs forward, bouncing briefly on Chauncey's chair to get some distance as he bounces into the sky...!

And then he attempts to shove the two pieces of paper into the roc's eyes!

"Paper covers roc! Paper beats rock!!" Fei cries.

DG: Fei Fong Wong has used his Tool RPS Badge toward his party's challenge, Of Mother Hens.
<Pose Tracker> Tethelle Cirdian has posed.

It's certainly much better than getting stabbed with fish spikes.

Tethelle asks Lanval, "Can you put it in another bubble so we can carry it more easily, or do we have to improvise?" Not that she can't carry a heavy load, but she'd rather not if she didn't have to - hard work is okay, but carrying heavy objects is not her preferred exercise.

Whether she gets an assist from Lanval or not, Tethelle has gloves, which makes the pulling a little safer, so she babysits moving it along (or just carries it, if she has to) until a bird swoops down on them. "If it wants the fish, I'm not very interested in sharing!"

Burdened with the fish, Tethelle does not draw her sword and start swinging. Instead, she pulls her Medium out and holds it before her; it shimmers silver as she casts a spell, something she rarely does but certainly isn't incapable of. A shower of small feather-like swords (or sword-like feathers?) falls from the sky, piercing the roc from above and driving it toward the team's waiting blades, fists, chairs, and... paper?

"FEI FONG WONG, THAT IS NOT A WEAPON!" Tethelle pauses, before adding in the interest of fairness, "Paper cuts excepted."

DG: Tethelle Cirdian has used her Tool Icon of Equites toward her party's challenge, Of Mother Hens.
<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lanval has posed.

"Sure can~" Lanval sure can put it in another bubble, and will happily do so. The issue then becomes whether that bubble is going to even carry it in the same direction they want to go, but, one problem at a time. There's a bigger one with the roc coming, as Lanval is put back down again while Tethelle joins the fray. Lanval, from the bottle, watches as he huddles himself ever closer (metaphorically) within the safety of his vessel.
     ...
Everyone seems so sure of themselves, who they are, why they're here, what they're doing. Even in the face of something so overwhelmingly dangerous - he has no idea what that flying thing is other than 'it's a big one' - they don't waver or doubt or have any real contradictory thoughts.
They're very strange people! But they're enjoying themselves, even now. The atmosphere among them is... kind of intoxicating, unto itself.
It's hard to resist that sort of thing!
     "...Ha ha!" The bottle laughs.
With a flash of blue light, the portly water spirit materializes. Bare feet traverse the Malevolence-stained grass as he picks up his own bottle vessel. Somehow, on his person, he finds another bottle - a bright white one full of sanctified liquid, gives it a sip--
--no, definitely drinks half of it. He takes his time walking forward as they all deliver their blows and gambits, before pouring the rest into the gourd. He starts to whirl the gourd on its rope overhead with a drunken smile on his face.
There's no real call to action, or yelling names in desperation, or anything of the sort. He puts the idea that they're walking about outside of the Boundary he's never left before at the back of his mind as he disperses pure, sanctified water everywhere.
It is more of a repellant than a direct attack, but he wouldn't shy from trying to whack a giant amber-winged roc hen's grabbing, flaying talons if any just happened to come nearby (likely inadvertedly, it probably can't sense his presence).
     "Ha ha haaaaaa!"

DG: Seraph Lanval has used his Tool Holy Bottle toward his party's challenge, Of Mother Hens.
<Pose Tracker> Fei Fong Wong has posed.

"Do not underestimate the power of paper!" Fei shouts.

--------------------------< Challenge Information: >--------------------------
The rare amber-winged roc has its mating grounds on some of the highest
plateaus of Aifread's Hunting Grounds. Though the meat of the roc is stringy
and worthless, the creature's eggs are among the most succulent and rarest
of dishes! Here, one can find a chance to secure these delicious morsels for
patrons as far away as Pentagulia!

One should be advised, though, that a roc hen is notoriously vicious. Why,
even being within sight of the nest can be reason enough for one to attack!

--------------------------< Challenge Information: >--------------------------
You may be familiar with the silver-horned elk (see page 81), but there is
an even rarer breed known as the golden-horned elk. This breed is,
shockingly, deaf and easy to sneak upon. In truth, many are found dead, for
they make easy prey. Nonetheless, such horns would prove equally fetching in
a marketplace or a trophy wall!

=Dungeon Conditions: Treasure=================================================
<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

The roc reels back from Layna's uppercut, giving Sephilia and Chauncey ample time to strike it in the face with their folding chair. It screeches back at her and takes flight in an attempt to give dive-bombing them another go, but Talise blasts it with her shotgun, causing it to waver...leaving it vulnerable to a rain of swords that start shearing into it, cutting wing and feathers and forcing it back to the ground.

Fei capitalizes on the situation, and...shoves some paper into its eyes. It squawks angrily and tries to flap its wings at him, but suddenly Lanval emerges from his vessel, emboldened by everyone's determination.

"Good to see you, lad!" Layna remarks with a grin. Lanval disperses sanctified water. Something about it causes the roc to back away from it and, by extension, Fei.

The papers are still stuck to its face...leaving it completely open from Talise's finishing swing.

With a powerful swing of Rastaban, Talise lands on the other side of the roc...and it collapses, one wing cut away from it.

It was a tough fight, but they've emerged victorious.

Layna glances around, offering everyone a grin...but as she does, she catches sight of the area around them. It looks like this particular roc has been quite the menace, and there's still some evidence left behind of its victims.

Those horns that shine a bright gold were noticeable anywhere...which did cause it some amount of trouble. But they're also valuable. Layna wanders over, taking a moment to appraise them. They're pretty pristine...maybe they could get some cash out of them.

It wasn't Aifread's treasure, but it was something all the same, right?

<Pose Tracker> Sephilia Lampbright has posed.

Sephy's eyes widen. "Oh wow, Dad's not gonna believe what we found here!"

<Pose Tracker> Talise Gianfair has posed.

"Oh, damn," Talise, breathing heavily and popping a Healing Nut, remarks at the sight of those huge glittering antlers.

She grins at Layna, her eyes bright. "I wonder what Benedict would give us for those. Might be a good chance to see how serious he is about those good resale prices."

<Pose Tracker> Fei Fong Wong has posed.

Dadada daaa da da daaa da daaaa!

Fei bounces back and punches the air a few times. Sometimes his final fantasy 7 roots show.

"Who's Benedict?" Fei asks when he's done (about ten seconds).

<Pose Tracker> Tethelle Cirdian has posed.

"An associate of ours," Tethelle says, still hefting the giant fish around. "He knows some people who said they could get us good prices on selling things like this."

<Pose Tracker> Seraph Lanval has posed.

Lanval keeps laughing as the roc is dealt with, and everyone comes to enjoy the spoils of their efforts after that rough start even just getting in and around the place. "Aaaah.... that wash shomethin'! Ya all did that one in like... whoosh!" He swings his arms around in flailing pantomime of what went on, or just... maybe drunkenly flailing his arms around.
He keeps laughing, except there's one dangling issue.
     More like a floating issue.
The bubbled Aifread Walleye is floating away, because bubbles are jerks.
"Ha ha ha! Haaa... uhhh, I guessh... ya shouldn't let that get away..." 'Ya?' Does Lanval mean 'I?' He disappears in a flash of blue, a little blue sphere finding its way back inside the vessel he presently occupies.
"Wouldn't want yer catch ta get awaaaay... ha ha, shorry~"

<Pose Tracker> Fei Fong Wong has posed.

"Is he a poacher?" Fei asks, concerned.

<Pose Tracker> Layna Manydays has posed.

Layna laughs victoriously and nods at Lanval.

"Aye, that we did! And we couldn'ta done it without ya, lad." She replies, then turns her attention back to their find.

"Aye, I'd say you have the right of it, Talise. I've got a good idea of what these're worth, so that'll help us figure out whether or not he's doin' right by us." She says with a nod toward Talise, and then glances toward Fei.

"Nay, lad. He's a courier, who's been helping us out." She says.

It's at this point that the Aifread Walleye starts flying away...so Layna recites a quick incantation, hoping to coax the winds into sending it back toward them.

<Pose Tracker> Talise Gianfair has posed.

Talise shakes her head and smiles ruefully. "No. He's a courier," she says at about the same time Layna does. "Turns out we have a secret helper. Benedict's kind of our go-between."

Talise eyes the bubbled walleye. "Gonna fix you up with somethin' lemony," she mutters. "Bugger."
