An adventurous young explorer and archaeologist, Hiro grew up enamored by the legends of his world told to him by his Grandpa Gwyn and delving into ruins alongside his best friend Ruby. Everything changed though when he encountered a maiden by the name of Lucia atop the Blue Spire. Even though the Church of Althena has declared her the Lord of Calamity, he’s steadfast in his belief that her mission to find the Goddess Althena will save their world, not bring it to ruin. While being pursued by White Knight Leo and Althena’s Guard, Hiro and his friends were stranded on the world of Filgaia. Despite being trapped, he intends to make every effort to get them home so that Lucia can complete her mission.

Background

Welcome to the Dragon Ruins. Dank and dilapidated and filled with monsters. Typically fairly silent other than bestial grunting until two shrieks echo through it's halls. A boy rushes out, a flying pink cat darting past him in a panic, following them are a pair of blazing inferno ghouls leaving a trail of flames in their wake. Sliding to a stop, they take a left turn. The Ghouls follow. Then they return to the same hall. The Ghouls follow. Right turn now. The ghouls follow.

Cue Internal Monologue

"Well, looks like you've caught us in another messy situation. Oh, by the way, if you haven't figured it out, my name is Hiro. And the flying cat is named Ruby. She says she's actually a baby red dragon, but I don't know if I quite believe her. She doesn't care though; we've been friends for what seems like forever! My grandfather Gwyn is an archaeologist who taught us how to explore ancient ruins like this...well, not exactly like THIS... Grandpa'd have a coronary if he saw me in this kind of danger! But, you get the idea. I think it's so cool that these dungeons and ruins that time forgot, can be found and explored by someone like me. The world I live in today is the result of things that happened long ago. Someday, I'll gather enough information from ruins like these to prove that!"

More Ghouls join in and get clogged in a narrow doorway. It's pretty sweet. Ruby Raspberries them. They take a wrong turn and a massive boulder starts rolling their way. Backpeddling they almost run afoul of the same ghouls. Somehow these two bonklers make it out by the skin of their teeth. Then a lot happens.

  • Met White Knight Leo, turned down his offer to join Althena's Guard.
  • Travelled to the Blue Spire after a Blue Light appeared, with Ruby and his Grandpa Gwyn. Explored it!
    • Met a girl named Lucia- from the Blue Star- who had phenomenal cosmic power on a mission to save our world by meeting Althena! Pay no attention to what Ruby says about that moment!
      • Lucia gets cursed.
  • Took Lucia to Larpa, met a scoundrel of a Priest named Ronfar! Except he was actually a pretty great guy.
    • Ronfar breaks the curse, but most of Lucia's power is still sealed.
  • Lucia leaves! And promptly gets captured by White Knight Leo
    • Broke her right out of the Dragonship Destiny- Leo must be pretty upset about that one.
  • After a journey through two forests, encountered Giban's Caravan, met a wonderful dancer named Jean!
    • Turns out Jean is a great fighter too! But doesn't want anyone to know about it. When her friends were in danger though she jumped into the fray- I may have helped a little.
  • Encountered this Mysterious Hooded Girl in Takkar. No time to join the Magic Guild though, we're on the run!
    • Mysterious Hooded Girl offers a way out of town! This can't go wrong!
      • IT WENT WRONG! IT WENT SO WRONG! And then it turned out she's really named Lemina Ausa, a mage from the Magic Guild of Vane.
        • We were conscripted, maybe?
  • Magic Carpet Ride! This sounds fun!
    • WHAT? - OW MY SPLEEN
      • WHAT DO YOU MEAN THE BLUE STAR?
  • Well nothing to do but try to get home. Explored the Ruins of Memory. Found some really neat stories from another world.
    • I take it back. The only thing these stories are is embarrassing.

Powers and Abilities

  • Swordsmanship - Hiro uses a Sword Style where the basics were taught to him by his Grandpa Gwyn. Unfortunately he doesn't actually know the name of it. Fortunately Ruby was able to read some of those sections that his Grandpa couldn't. Unfortunately this means he is totally at her mercy when it comes to that! She changes the name constantly but it always has something to do with Red Dragons! Come on Ruby, be serious and just tell me! It's a balanced style, well suited for both offense and defense, excelling at neither. He typically wields his sword one handed with a shield.
  • Wind Sorcery - Black Magic Only - The Blessing of Althena is a real bargain isn't it? The green tattoos on his face were put there by his Grandpa Gwyn to represent his ability to cast this magic.
  • Boomerang - Hiro is surprisingly good at throwing a boomerang! Part of that is that he can subtly use wind sorcery to guide the direction of it, but even without that he'd still be really good at aiming it!
  • Ruby - Ruby despite Hiro totally not believing she is an actual Red Dragon can breathe fire, and often does that quite well at anyone threatening him, or calling her a cat.
  • Budding Archaeologist - Even though he may not look it- see above experience- Hiro actually has a goodly amount of experience exploring Ancient Ruins on Lunar.

Relationships

Friends and Allies

  • Lucia - The Most Beautiful Woman Ever - Yes he seriously thinks that. But more to the point, despite being a lovestruck teenager, Hiro seriously admires Lucia. She came all the way from her world to save his, and with a few twitches of her little finger decimated some of the fiercest monsters he'd ever fought. She's rendered navigating some puzzles in ruins a trivial affair, so she's obviously incredibly intelligent too. And let's not forget her mission! She came all the way from the Blue Star to Lunar to save it. How selfless is that? Maybe she doesn't know that much about how to deal with people and he doesn't understand her at all; but he's determined to help her with her mission, no matter what the consequences may be to himself. He genuinely regards his journey with her as the greatest adventure of his life.
  • Jean - While Jean and Hiro haven't known each other for too long, Hiro knows at the very least that she has a past that she doesn't want to talk about. And that's fine by him, he doesn't intend to invade her privacy. Jean doesn't seem to think much of herself, but he thinks the world of her. She's the best dancer he's ever seen, a splendid fighter, and so far a good friend. Jean doesn't enjoy fighting, but the two have agreed to start training together so they can better protect what they care about.
  • Lemina - Life with Lemina is already like being in the middle of a tornado given the whirlwind of events she's swept them up in. She's put them through some insane magic test to twist their arms into joining the Magic Guild of Vane, took them on a Magic Carpet Ride to the Blue Star. It's really a wonder that Hiro thinks well of her despite all that, but he does. He sees a young woman who is very passionate about restoring something important to her. She just gets a little carried away. And her skills of magic are second to none! They're really going to need them if their first few moments in Filgaia are any indication.
  • Ronfar - Ronfar may be kind of a scoundrel, but he has a bigger heart than he lets on. He saved Lucia after all, he defied his former best friend Leo. He seems to really be hurting over some past failure that led him to leave the Church of Althena. His incredible healing skills are always a great asset, doing anything from regular healing to breaking a dark curse that could disable Lucia! Hiro thinks a lot of him, and looks up to him, he just wishes that he'd lay off the lecher act.
  • Ruby - Ruby is honestly like a little sister to Hiro, though she doesn't like hearing that, so in practice she's more like his best friend. The two grew up together and Hiro believes Ruby is playing games when she says things like he's hers and the like. Obviously she can't be serious right?
  • Gwyn - Hiro's Grandfather is the smartest guy Hiro knows, and despite what he says, Hiro doesn't believe age has slowed him down at all. He taught him everything about navigating ancient ruins and swordmanship, and he instilled in Hiro a very strong sense of right and wrong, such that he had no qualms sending him off on a mission with Lucia even knowing it might get him in a lot of trouble. Hiro strongly hopes his Grandpa is safe, and that Althena's Guard won't come after him.
  • Zed - The Ultimate Macho Man, the Grim Reaper's Pen Pal, the Hero that walks into the Dark so we don't have to. Ruby thinks he's kind of a doofus but Hiro likes him. He'd barely met Lucia and already dedicated himself to her mission, and immediately came to her defense when they were attacked by the Shepherd, his allies, and Althena's Guard. Sometimes he's a little silly, but Hiro enjoys the friendly rivalry the two have in physical feats, and the idea of having him as a training partner for swordsmanship.
  • Kalve - Kalve has been rather taciturn, but sometimes actions speak louder than words. He came to Lucia's defense when she was under attack, and even threw Hiro a shield when his improvised one was destroyed by the Shepherd. Hiro still wants to know why it vanished, but he's grateful for an act which he thinks saved his life against the legend.

Acquaintances

  • Talise Gianfair - Hiro suspects Tali is from Lunar, but doesn't know for sure. So far he thinks well of her, and would venture into ancient ruins with her any time. Ruby has taken a shine to her for believing she's a Red Dragon.
  • Sephilia Lampbright - Hiro thinks Sephilia is pretty adorable, and that her doll Chauncey, which he's nicknamed as Foxey is equally cute. The fact that she came to Filgaia from Lunar makes him suspect there's more to her than meets the eye.
  • Marguerite Fatima - Hiro has no idea that Margie is the head of a Filgaian Church, but did notice how disturbed she was by the idea of the Goddess Althena as her existence seemed to defy the precepts of her faith. While Hiro isn't exactly the most religious, he still enjoys talking to her.

Enemies

  • Leo - White Knight Leo seems like a pretty good guy, he's just stubborn and a little full of himself. Lucia can't be the Lord of Calamity though and Hiro knows it, he saw her get attacked by Zophar! For a while he was pretty doggedly persistent in tracking the party. Thankfully now that we're on the Blue Star Hiro believes they're going to be a breather for a while, at least until he gets home. How little does he know.
  • Amelia Rose - Hiro likes the Priestess, but he knows they're going to come to blows again and again over Lucia being the Lord of Calamity. He does like her dog, Silver though. Good doggo! He is worried about the effect her battle may have had on Jean.
  • Skylr Paer- A member of Althena's Guard. While he hasn't much contact with her, he's really glad Zed was there to hold her off, because things were bad enough without a skilled archer being given freedom to rain arrows down on them.
  • Sorey - The Shepherd. While originally the two got along, it was under the false pretenses of a badly crafted cover identity. Now Hiro's come to find out that he's actually one of the legends, and is determined to his duty of defeating the Lord of Calamity. Fighting him shook Hiro considerably, as it was like coming to blows with one of the legends he grew up on. He still thinks Sorey is a good person, but Hiro is completely certain he's wrong about Lucia. Part of him is really glad Lucia retreated, as he's not certain how much longer he could have held out against the powers of the Shepherd.
  • Alisha Diphda- The Princess Knight of Hyland. Originally he met Alisha on an expedition into some ancient ruins, but it was under the false pretenses of a badly crafted cover identity. Hiro thinks a lot of her from the brief time they've met, but he believes Alisha is wrong about Lucia being the Lord of Calamity. He feels badly about the injuries she received against Kalve, and hopes she recovers soon.
  • Lailah - Hiro barely has any idea that she exists! He knows Lemina fought an extended spell duel with a Seraph. Ruby is irked because Lailah's powers over fire make her feel inadequate.
  • Mikleo - Hiro only has an inkling of an idea of his existence. He knows one of the Seraphim combined with Sorey to give him phenomenal powers, but little else. Ruby and Mikleo share a rivalry where they tend to snipe at each other. Her favorite nickname for him so far is Silverfish.
  • Edna - Hiro barely has any idea she exists. Ruby likes her style.
