Kent Hauch is a fairly well-known criminal in the Badlands. Some years ago he took over the arsonist robber gang the Black Ties and moved them into his old hometown of El Pazzo, from which the gang now operates. He is a loud, arrogant bully with an ambitious streak, the Black Ties growing increasingly bold under his command. He is also a hardline pyromaniac and doesn't rob from any place that he then doesn't try to light on fire with his ARM, the Red River, a weapon which melts down rocks into lava. The fire makes him feel good. About the only things that really make Kent Hauch feel good are fire, robbery, and men's fashion.

Background

Kent Hauch's background is difficult to trace primarily due to obscurity, and the only good source are bounty offices in the Badlands. Kent Hauch appeared one day in the arsonist robber gang the Black Ties, quickly rising through it as the personal protege of its leader, Jack Vantabrack. Roughly three years ago, Kent acquired a powerful ARM, the Red River, and took over the Black Ties after a violent fight that depleted the gang's ranks. He has since moved the gang into his hometown of El Pazzo, rebuilding and fortifying them.

Powers and Abilities

  • RED RIVER: The Red River is an ARM of the Metal Demon era, taking the form of a large, highly advanced pistol attached to a large tank worn on the back. The tank is filled with rocks, metal, and other material, where unknown processes melt the material down into a molten state. The molten matter can then be fired from the gun at variable temperatures, from returning to a solid form shortly after leaving the barrel to glowing a painfully bright white-hot.
  • BLACK TIES: The Black Ties, currently 50-odd strong, are a collection of pyromaniacs, thieves, and pyromaniac thieves. Headquartered in El Pazzo, the gang's activities primary involve robbing travellers passing too close to the town and occasionally ranging to neighboring towns to knock over businesses, often then burning them to the ground. Members of the gang tend to be easily recognizable for being the only people to combine expensive menswear with makeshift flamethrowers.
The Black Ties are an equal opportunity employer. You don't have to be a man to appreciate men's fashion.
  • EL PAZZO: El Pazzo, headquarters of the Black Ties, is a fairly small town tucked in the southeastern Badlands. Without the fortune of living near a Plant, much of the town's efforts are bent toward simply staying alive with agricultural efforts. The Black Ties are not yet a true authority in the town, but have an increasingly symbiotic relationship with it - they do not prey on its residents (assuming they get their due respect), bolster the town's economy with their ill-gotten gains, and injured gangers unable to raid are usually made to work in the hardscrabble fields.

Relationships

Black Ties

  • Fargo Foobach - Suit #1. Fargo was the first person in the Black Ties try and beat Kent down in his initiation, and one of the first people to ever treat him like a peer. Fargo says almost nothing, but Kent always listens when he does. Possibly the only person whose life Kent cares about for reasons other than practicality.
  • Ribaldy - Suit #2. The Beastman ARMs Meister treats Kent like a big brother. Kent bears up under it because Ribaldy's skills are irreplaceable. Kent will often stand up in defense of the man in the face of discrimination, but it's really more to have an excuse to drill someone in the face than any actual sensitivity.
  • Samuelh the Molotov - Suit #3. Kent can barely stand Samuelh, but has no desire to act against him as long as he does what he's supposed to, as his presence reassures the veteran Black Ties that were originally recruited by Jack Vantabrack.
  • Parbody - Suit #4. Trusted in the manner you should always trust someone who nearly killed you - completely and utterly. The only person to ever make Kent go 'Well that's a little much, isn't it.'
  • The Todds - A pair of Vests who never get tired, do anything they're asked, and occasionally even succeed. They're uncommonly stupid.
  • Vale - Adlehyde native, first non-Badlander recruit to reach the rank of Jacket. Ambitious and hungry for authority.

Solaris

  • Kahran Ramses - Kent has about as close as he can get to respect for Kahran, as he recognizes effective leadership and is inclined to look favorably on people who sign his paychecks. Having Kent's respect is not necessarily a positive, as he begins to wonder what would happen if you burned away.
  • Myyah Hawwa - You know, it's possible to be too easy to bully. This is what the military is like? Bloody hell.
  • Elhaym van Houten - Well, she's attractive, if you're into that whole ginger thing. Kent isn't quite sure what to make of someone from Solaris who doesn't seem to be talking to him as though he were a dog on its hind legs.
  • Kahm E. Yugh - lmao
  • Loren Voss
  • Cardia Ortell
  • Ilya Sorokin
  • Kaspar Grossekatze
  • Tsela

Bandits

  • Gasback - Kent respects Gasback on account of him being a way bigger deal than he is. The Black Ties are a blip on the radar compared to what that legendary bandit has done, as Samuelh constantly reminds him. However, he can respect someone while also seeking his pound of flesh for being interfered with.
  • Janus Cascade

Targets

Kill List

  • Maya Schrodinger - Gunned down a downright unnecessary amount of Black Ties during the sack of Tumblus Town. You get three on top of any personally trying to kill you. Past that is selfishness.
  • Corwynt - Hurt Elly. Worse, hurt Elly while preaching at the top of his lungs.
