Alisha Diphda is royalty, but only barely. The youngest of the King of Hyland's children and last in the line of succession, she turned to being a knight as a way to serve her kingdom. She is a skilled fighter, trained in the spear and still advised by the Blue Valkyrie, Lady Maltran. It has been a fraught and frustrating path, however. Her idealism has met constant obstacles, as she has tried to look out for her kingdom's people as the Council guides Hyland towards war. Alisha has turned to legends of the Seraphim, seeking out their aid in a world that seems to be going wrong. Her efforts helped uncover the new Shepherd, Sorey. Now, she has allied with him and travels with him on his journey, in the hope that it can bring Hyland peace.

Background

Alisha was born the youngest child of the King of Hyland. Her life wasn't easy, even from a young age. Her mother was a commoner, and that resulted in her being promptly discounted and looked down upon by the rest of the royal family. Hyland's transition to an oligarchy also left the monarchy with little power, besides; by the time her father's reign began, the Council controlled much of Hyland. That left her as the butt of a great joke by the royalty and nobility, even as they faded from the view of history.

When she was little, her mother tried to shield her from that. But, Alisha's mother passed when she was young, and she soon learned that she was met with derision for the circumstances of her birth. She might have grown bitter or angry with the world, and felt powerless to face it, had it not been for Lady Maltran.

The famed Blue Valkyrie, having just proven her valor ten times over in the last war, looked at the princess and saw opportunity. She never let slip what opportunity she saw -- the way that Alisha was an instrument for her, a tool to be fashioned to seize political power and sew strife. She gave Alisha hope when there was none, instilling in her a sense of idealism that came to define her and reinforcing that when things fell apart.

Maltran taught her to use the spear -- and Alisha showed herself a natural with most weaponry, but especially the spear. She learned the Azure Lance Style from her, and Maltran gave her a sense of duty.

It was no surprise that, when she came of age, she chose to leave the comforts and snide remarks of the royal family behind. She instead became a knight, serving in Hyland's military, under the command of of Maltran. This afforded her the barest of semblance of authority and importance. It seemed like a chance to help, at first -- to work with the military to make the lives of Hyland's people easy and have some sway in political matters.

Except, of course, it didn't work out that way.

As Alisha tried to become involved in politics, the Council worked against her. Chancellor Bartlow, especially, was skilled in stymying her every move. As Hyland moved towards another war against Rolance, Alisha was compelled to speak out against it, to try to save her people from war. The Council wanted none of it -- and they ignored her entreaties over another troubling matter. Alisha's soldiers found strange disappearances, deaths, and weather phenomena in the countryside. After one of her soldiers went missing, she and a squad went to investigate.

On their way, political machinations in the capital caught up with them. Alisha and her squad fended off an attack by the assassin guild, the Scattered Bones. She squared off with one fierce foe -- but they withdrew after the battle came to a draw. They continued on, to the area where their comrade had vanished.

A terrifying tornado appeared and tore through their ranks. Her squadron was killed, to her great distress, and a nearby village utterly shattered. Alisha managed to limp to a nearby ruin, and when strange insects rushed her, she fell into its depths -- and appeared in a part that no one had ever set foot in.

Alisha collapsed. She was found by a most curious young man: Sorey. With her copy of the Celestial Record, a childhood favorite that she hung onto, Alisha began to realize she was in ancient ruins tied to the Shepherds of the past. She clung to a hope: if she could find the Seraphim, perhaps they could help Lunar, for the Goddess Althena had not yet been able to save the continent of Glenwood from disasters. She had needed help before, hadn't she?

When Sorey brought her back to Elysium, she beseeched the Seraphim -- who she couldn't see -- for help. They didn't answer.

She befriended Sorey there, and she spent most of the time alone, unable to see the Seraphim even as they debated what to do with her. In the end, she decided to return to Ladylake; her faith was unshaken, but she decided that humans had to go it on their own.

She successfully returned to Ladylake, but her return was met with measured welcoming and not-so-private disappointment that she hadn't died. Alisha decided to use her authority as a princess, limited as it was, to sponsor Ladylake's Sacred Blade Festival. The festival was meant to find a new Shepherd. She knew that wasn't likely, though she hoped. Instead, Alisha hoped it could inspire the people.

She was surprised when Sorey turned up, having come after her to help. She wasn't, though, when he drew the blade and became the Shepherd.

Working with Sorey, she learned to speak with and then see the Seraphim in his party. She also learned to see the effect of malevolence on the world, and came to understand how dire things were. They traveled together briefly, dealing with the problems of Ladylake and the vicinity as best they could. Perhaps she wasn't with the military, then, but she had a chance to do real good.

But then she was ordered to Marlind. Alisha knew what that was -- an effort to kill her, sending her to give aid to a town infested with a plague. It was on their way out that the Sorcery Globe's tremendous influence reached out. Alisha, Sorey, and the rest were plucked away from their world in a flash of power. She went from one world to another -- something she never thought possible. The Blue Star, Filgaia.

Powers and Abilities

Alisha is from Lunar, so she is capable of using Lunar magic. She has the light elemental and uses White Magic. This is secondary to her first area of expertise: the Azure Lance Style.

This style is practiced by the spear-wielding knights of Hyland, and the master is considered to be Lady Maltran. Many of Alisha's techniques came from Maltran, who taught her, including her finest technique, Light Blast (which obviously incorporates a little of her element, though it is entirely a spear technique). Alisha is capable of doing those techniques with other weapons, too, though her finest is her long bladed spear.

Her magic consists of Litanies. She learned those in Ladylake, taught by the mages in the court. Alisha received some formal instruction, though never as much as a full-fledged mage. She was never considered for traveling to Neo-Vane; her magical prowess isn't nearly so great.

Relationships

Friends

  • Sorey: The Shepherd and a true friend besides. To say that Alisha is loyal to him is a dramatic understatement.
  • Seraph Lailah: The Seraph who lived in Ladylake's Cathedral and the Prime Lord of their Seraphim. Alisha truly looks up to her, and that she fits the reverence she feels for the Seraphim helps.
  • Seraph Edna: Lady Edna doesn't quite match Alisha's image of the Seraphim. But, she likes her, despite her sense of humor.

Acquaintances

  • Cecilia Adlehyde: Another princess, just like her. Cecilia and her spoke about some important things, but the way Cecilia doesn't seem to believe her bothers Alisha a little.
  • Amelia Rose: Another person from Lunar! She likes and respects the blind priestess. And, she came to their aid against the Lord of Calamity.
