If you see any trained monsters wandering around the Photosphere or going into battle, they probably belong to Malfi. If you see any *rare* creatures while you’re out and about, she’d REALLY like to hear about it! Drop by her office for “coffee” any time. Malfi is ambitious and eager to distinguish herself in battle. Her battleform is metallic gold and has earned her the nickname “Golden Goddess,” from her enemies, though she never refers to herself that way. She has a strong sense of honor and takes offense easily. She can be prickly. She is vain about her long white hair and often restyles it, sometimes using hair ornaments or “trophies” from defeated enemies. She likes to read during her off time and would appreciate books recovered from human settlements or ruins. You can get on her good side by proffering scuttlebutt about unique monsters, books, hair ornaments, or really good coffee from human villages. Some (sincere) compliments wouldn’t hurt, either.
Background
She was born (or built) and raised a Metal Demon. She participated in the raid on Arctica (fighting civilians)and even captured a few humans, but Duke Sir Alhazred took all of them away before she could study them, which she still resents.
Angry at Sir Alhazred, she did the only sensible thing – returned to Arctica Castle to get more humans! (Handy thing, that Gate Generator!). Alas, they were all dead or fled. Bored and looking for something to do, she explored the castle and retrieved some books from the library and some edibles and drinkables from the kitchens. She turned out to not like human food but to love coffee. She discovered more (unbrewed) coffee in storage but had no clue how to make it. (Good thing the bags were labeled and smelled like the delicious stuff). It took several weeks, but she finally tracked down a basic cookbook in the library and learned how to make it. She has been working on synthesizing it, so far unsuccessfully. She has gone back to the library several times and come back with more books each time. She finds books about the Demon War very entertaining, especially for the misconceptions about her kind. She has generously shared those with her friends. Her technorganic brain has downloaded English, but sometimes the translator doesn’t work so well.
She spends her non-reading time capturing, taming and training monsters. A few she treats as pets, but the rest are for the other Metal Demons to use. She has a staff of the smarter humanoid monsters with opposable thumbs which she uses for servants. They are kept in line with shock collars (or whatever instrument would work anatomically for the nonhumanoids). She has foisted maximum grunt work off on them and rejoices to never have to muck out a monster cage again! (She is smart enough to make sure the cage is *empty* before her staff clean it. No sense in killing the servants off after getting them all trained!).
She generally finds the Photosphere a boring place indeed and has recently started exploring ruins and such to relieve the ennui. She has yet to realize the irony of treasuring her own freedom while chucking other creatures in cages, often for extended periods of time.
Malfi provides monsters to be sentries/guards for places the Metal Demons would like to protect. She does not mistreat her charges, ever (though she does maintain tight discipline). Some of her captives have died from her ignorance, and she feels badly about this. She is conscientious and tries her best to meet each creature’s basic needs (food, water, shelter, medical treatment). She might not notice psychological needs for sentients, though, unless explicitly told about them.
Malfi directed the monstrous troops during the Battle of Adlehyde. Her superiors had already designated the monsters as expendable, so she took off their control collars before turning them loose, planning to reuse the collars later. It turned out to be a big mistake: about a third of the monsters ran away immediately, and a fraction of the rest turned on her. Between rounding up and mopping up, she didn’t have time to slaughter any humans. She is now working on finding a way to make the collars cheaper to manufacture. Disposable ones would be ideal…
Powers and Abilities
Malfi is a typical tank-fighter, slow but strong. Her weapon is a lance. She adds the Electric/Lightning Element to most of her attacks. She is also notorious for “Net” attacks that Entangle and/or capture opponents. If she is monster-hunting, she will always have a way to immobilize the monster and transport it back for study and/or training. Her resources range from ropes and cords and muzzles to cages to force-cages to sedatives to stasis fields.
As for resources, of course Malfi has access to her menagerie. She also has a good bit of knowledge about the biology of any creatures she’s caught and studied. That doesn’t give her any insight about the sociopolitical aspects of sentient creatures or their societies, though: she can be clueless in this regard. She also has access to Metal Demon labs, computers, archives, etc.
Relationships
Note: New to the MUSH, so these notes are based on the actual characters in the game and not on the MUSH characters necessarily:
Of the Feature Characters, she gets along best with Boomerang: their honor code and glory-seeking are similar. She detests Sir Alhazred – and may grow to hate him if she ever finds out he’s a vivisectionist – and is intimidated by Sir Siegfried and puzzled by Lady Harken. As for Sir Berserk, he named his weapon “Flail.” Dude has no imagination. She has a low opinion of Zed for being Sir Siegfried’s lackey (though this could change as she interacts with him). She distrusts Luceid for being a Guardian.
[OOC note: Character portrait is not quite accurate, but it’s closest to her I’ve been able to find on the Internet. @desc trumps picture!].
