"That's how I know you're full of shit: you keep bein' a pain in my ass!"

As quick with a sharp word as she is with her elemental lightning, Ragnell has a cynical dislike of humans due to having watched them betray their own over and over again. Though a stranger to Filgaia, she's taken to the sandy dog-eat-dog world of wanderlust like a horse to water and will pop up just about anywhere in it. Easily and often mistaken for a man, Ragnell is rude, coarse, unvarnished, smart-assed, and a lover of pranks. While it's not beyond her to help the weak out when the mood takes her, there's a certain extra-steely look in her eye when she sizes up particularly strong humans--and sometimes she'll challenge them to fights, wielding a pair of lightning-charged pistols with formidable skill, just because she can. Yet at other times, she might well fight alongside them instead as she digs through the world in search of its secrets. Other times still, she might have a few juicy tidbits of information to offer--for a price. Is she an enemy or an ally? Either way, there's no way a varmint like her could have any deeper meaning for what she does. ...right?

Background

  • Born.
  • Got warned that humans are terrible.
  • Ignored this, as you do.
  • Made friends.
  • Experienced the terribleness of humans firsthand.
  • Lost friends.
  • Went on a journey, as you do.
  • Made more friends.
  • A Lord of Calamity happened.
  • Lost more friends.
  • Picked a fight with a Fell Dragon.
  • Somehow didn't die.
  • Made even more friends, because Ragnell can't stop.
  • Ended up on Filgaia, as you do.
  • Changed her whole aesthetic to suit it because YES RAGNELL LIKES.
  • En route to lose even more friends.
  • Which brings us to present day!

Powers and Abilities

  • Lightning-elemental Seraphic magic, including offense and healing.
  • A pair of pistols. They appear at first glance to be ARMs due to her channeling her lightning magic through them, but they're actually normal guns.

Relationships

Shepherd's Retinue

  • Lailah: "The mom-est o' mom friends. I respect her willin'ness to put herself on the line over an' over again for what she believes in. As a pair o' Seraphim, we're real different, but there's nothin' like a good bad joke to make two folks bond."
  • Edna: "Don't know that we're friends, but I wouldn't say we're *not* friends, neither. She an' me get each other, at least on one or two levels. An' damn, I *love* her sense o' humor, even more'n Lailah's. Good luck t' her with Eizen, too."
  • Mikleo: "Ahaha... Goddess, but lookin' at him is embarrassin' on so many levels. Guess kids are jus' like that, though. Hope he doesn't end up regrettin' the path he's chosen... for everyone's sake."
  • Dezel: "Can't say I'm keen on how he yanked Rose's body around all those years, but hey, now that she can see 'im, that's their business an' not mine. We get along all right otherwise. With what a grouch he is, it's fun t' mess with 'im."
  • Princess Alisha: "Didn't like her at first, but... I have to admit, she's grown on me. She doesn't shy away when faced with the frank truth, an' she keeps facin' challenges head-on. She's still got a long ways to go, but... I think she might actually get there, eventually."
  • Rose: "She's damn fun t' tease in a totally different way from 'Lisha. There's nothin' quite like someone who'll play hardball right back with ya--which jus' makes it better when I score points on her, heh. She's got a lot o' potential, an' I look forward to seein' what she can do."
  • Sorey: "Don't think he cares much for me, but I don't need him to. I jus' need him to grow stronger, both as the Shepherd an' as a human being."

Vile Fiends

  • Lemina Ausa: A magic-using companion to Lucia. Ragnell likes her spirit and her attitude that burdens are things to be overcome to develop stronger hearts. She flirts with her for the fun of it, but is more interested in cooperating with her on purification experiments.
  • Jean: An interesting figure within the Vile Fiends. Jean took Ragnell's flirting to the next level, which led to a nice time, but Ragnell would prefer it not go further than that. For right now, she's more interested in that technique she used on Lady Harken...
  • Hiro and Ruby: A swordsman companion to Lucia, and his Red Dragon buddy. Actually, Ragnell knows Ruby better, since until recently, only Ruby could see her. She and Ruby have an understanding, but if Ragnell knew Ruby wanted her to think she's cool, she'd be pretty amused by that. Hiro doesn't stand out to her as much by comparison, but that may change in the future now that he's started to see her too.
  • Gwen Whitlock: A courier with an electricity-based ARM. Ragnell played a prank on her that purely by accident switched on Gwen's ability to see Seraphim and Malevolence. Ragnell's used her as a contact multiple times now, and they get along well, especially after ending up part of the Vile Fiends.
  • Lucia: The alleged Lord of Calamity. Ragnell has heard varying accounts about her, and having finally met her face-to-face, she must agree that she doesn't act like she'd expect the Lord of Calamity to. Yet the aura of Malevolence around her is unmistakable. What is the truth?

Althena's Guard

  • White Knight Leo: The uptight, rigid leader of Althena's Guard. Ragnell doesn't have strong feelings about him one way or another, but she is deeply amused by his willingness to assume that when he can't hear what she's saying, it's something wise and enlightened as befitting a servant of the Goddess Althena.
  • Thessaly: A sorceress bonded, somehow, to Garan. Though she seems demure and polite on the surface, Ragnell has seen a violent passion beneath. She's intrigued by her and wants to learn more--but base curiosity aside, while she doesn't dislike her, she's not sure she likes her, either.
  • Garan Dantear: A knight bonded, somehow, with Thessaly. Ragnell is aware of his strength, having watched him fight his way to second place in the Lacour Tournament, but she doesn't have much of an opinion of him as a person.

Metal Demons

  • Riesenlied: Reminds Ragnell of someone she used to know. She enjoys teasing her, but in truth she respects her for her resolve. Her desire to bridge the river of animosity that splits humans and Metal Demons is a little beyond Ragnell, but she respects how far she's willing to go in the name of it.
  • Noeline: Reminds Ragnell of... no, never mind. Obviously Riesenlied's lover. Ragnell enjoys her sass. They were a little rough going at first, but they had a blunt exchange and now they're fine with each other. Ragnell understands her devotion to Riesenlied intimately.
  • Zed: A feisty, courageous, hilarious, powerful, dumb-as-bricks Metal Demon. Ragnell enjoys his company and marvels at his innocence of certain things. Metal Demons are really something else, huh?
  • Siegfried: The leader of the Metal Demons. Very Serious. Also very STRONG, as Ragnell has personally experienced. They're not exactly friends by any means, but they both know what's up now.

Solaris

Crucible

  • K.K.: "..."
  • Agatha Pyrelight: "Oh. Her. Yeah, I know 'er. Can't say as I like her much, but you don't need to like someone to work with 'em."
  • Seraph Nimue: "Haha, Nim, you fuckin' spaz."
  • Neriah Parringer: "Seems like she's got a better handle on who an' what she is now. 'Course, 'better' doesn't mean 'perfect' or even 'decent.' I think it'd be real interestin' to fight her, see what that thing inside her is really capable of... 'Specially since she seems t' like me, heh."
  • Iskandra Grendorre: "It's jus' like a Hellion to wanna take revenge on a country, 'long with its ~venerated leaders~, but hey, if someone's gonna wanna un-make an entire nationality, it may as well be those Rolance fuckfaces."

Miscellaneous

  • Lunata Croze: A waitress-become-swordswoman, pacted to Ge Ramda. Though she's strong, she's still inexperienced. Ragnell assisted her on her quest to learn mabo curry and also challenged her to a fight after Lunata won the Lacour Tournament. They get along all right.
  • Cecilia Adlehyde: Princess of Adlehyde, such as that is these days, and Shaman of Schturdark. Ragnell has no strong opinions of her as a person, having come to admit that giving up the Teardrop was the best she could do at the time. She does think she and her magic could be useful, though--and potentially dangerous.
  • Maya Schrodinger: Someone worth watching. Ragnell thinks the disparity between her masks is interesting in and of itself, though she isn't so attached to either her or Virginia as to meddle or nose as much as she could. She does like the way she looks in hot pants, though.
  • Virginia Maxwell: "Told ya she wasn't gonna last. But hey, at least she didn't last in a good way. Good on her for overcomin' her weakness."
  • Ida Everstead-Rey: "Oh. So she's a Hellion now, huh. Guess I'll be leanin' on Emma for the analysis o' that tome from the Berry Cave, then."
  • Garrett Stampede: "Literally anyone coulda told you that was gonna happen. I saw it comin' from miles away, an' I met him maybe once or twice."
  • Ethius Hesiod: A strange, paranoid little man. He's clearly got something going on, though exactly what, Ragnell can't guess. When she has a chance, she intends to nose into his business to try to find out more--assuming, of course, she can get away with it.
  • Cyre H. Lorentz: A tiger beastman Baskar shaman. Seems like an interesting enough guy, and a good source of information on the Guardians and Filgaia in general. Ragnell feels she ought to look into him some more.
