Riesenlied is a 400-year old Tainted Hyadean and leader of the Ebony Wings, a now known traitorous contingent of the Metal Demons. Preferring the term 'Hyadean', and rejecting the label of 'Metal Demon' as ancient pejoratives, she espouses a collaborative path and a desire to nurture peaceful culture for her people to seek coexistence with the other races of Filgaia. Recent events in Wayside have exposed how she stands against the order to destroy the Guardian Statues to resurrect Mother -- this decision has ultimately cast her and the Wings against the rest of her brethren, who now inevitably seek their destruction...
Background
Powers and Abilities
- Leadership and Charisma - More than anything else, Riesenlied is known for her ability to inspire and lead others; it is what brought about her rise to fame from nothingness, and leadership in the face of physical weakness was what made the Tainted go to where they are now. She is experienced and versed at mentoring younger Demons and finding ways to make them excel and reach their potential.
Rising Heart, Fallen Sword
Riesenlied's primary combat style is called Rising Heart, a style she's cultivated over the many centuries from the Fereshte non-lethal sword and bow styles, and accompanied by the photon phenomenon she's able to generate from her body. This is her default style, a merciful and disabling style that seeks to render the opponent incapable of fighting rather than wounding or killing them. In particular, Riesenlied is fond of disarming techniques, whether through ripostes or precise arrows of light created from within her own being.
First seen in Operation Gungnir, the weapon Riesenlied calls the Fallen Sword is an extension of Riesenlied's primary fighting style. The Fallen Sword itself is an extraordinarily advanced ARM created out of her own body, drawing on much of the mass of her wings -- as a result, it cannot be used without harming herself in the process.
The Fallen Sword is a crystal sword with a bright, clear blade, and acts as both a focus and the base of her photon particles. Fragments of the sword can be launched in order to create Pinions, remote blades the size of daggers that travel weightlessly in a trail of motes. The Fallen Sword is also necessary for Riesenlied to create its full form, Laevateinn, a shimmering sword of light said to be able to connect hearts and minds together for discourse even in the heat of battle.
Riesenlied has also been seen to be able to disintegrate herself into floating photon particles, and reconstruct herself with the help of several Pinions forming a portal-like gate upon which her body can be rebuilt on the spot. This teleport manuever does her a significant amount of harm and is currently only used for emergency purposes.
Currently, the Fallen Sword also has a sharply limited operation time -- somewhere in the span of one and a half minutes. After this mode ends, Riesenlied has a tendency to overheat and lose consciousness.
Weaknesses
- Magic - Like many other metal demons, Riesenlied does not tolerate magic very well, and Crest Sorcery and Symbology both have effective means to disrupt her physiology. Healing magic also has a reduced effect, given that she's composed of liquid metal.
- Tainted physiology - Riesenlied's liquid metal is extraordinarily impure and, as a result, brittle and inflexible. This results in her physiology being quite weak compared to other metal demons -- she has about as much strength, agility and endurance as a normal person, and is incapable of transformation. As a result, she has to compensate with cunning, skill and tactics.
- ARM desynchronisation - The other significant drawback of the Tainted is that they're incapable of forming signatures that allow them to bond with most Metal Demon ARMs, and one of the reasons they're so ostracised by their peers. Riesenlied is no different.

Odjn

Odjn is Riesenlied's lifelong companion and Metal Dragon, found deep within a mineshaft that had apparently struck proverbial gold when it unearthed the site of a battle dating back from the Metal Demon Wars. Odjn is a sassy smartmouth, always with a quick quip or a witty repartee to her so-called 'mistress', a term she uses in a rather vitriolic manner. She also appears to have a deep love for singing, especially from a genre that ancient records would show is the 'power ballad' genre. Odjn's smart-alec comments often conflict with Riesenlied's mild and collected manners, though perhaps in this case it is true that opposites do attract.
Odjn doesn't have many memories before Riesenlied found her -- and this is something that greatly troubles her. Sometimes, events and actions cause her to have painful flashes of horrifying memories. Unfortunately, they're too hazy for her to really remember the exact details, but she confides in Riesenlied that she feels worried she was involved in something horrible.
Relationships
I have been ever so privileged to encounter so many people in my time outside of the Photosphere. Travelling to Ignas, and having met so many Drifters thus... it has been an eye-opening and changing journey for me.

Our Family
- Noeline - Noeline... what can I say about where we've ended up? We've gone through so much, been through what I don't believe any of our brethren have gone through... I've said as much, and... I can only hope that the world finds a way to accept us both. My love for you has not diminished in the slightest, even in these bleakest of times.
- I think of our household, the way it has grown from literally nothing. I think of how I wake up by your side, with Mikaia snugged in her blanket beside me; how the first droplets of frost start to melt away to the typically harsh Filgaian dawn at our windowsill. More times than not, Janey is already up and about -- or perhaps she didn't sleep! She's always clattering with machinery, keeping Trouble and Strife company even when they must recharge. And just when I'm sure I can slip out without waking you... you turn to me, hold my hand, and greet the morning with me.
- I'd never trade that for anything else. Even if we must change the landscape of our hearth, the warmth that it has provided for us in the days since we arrived at the Badlands... shall never fade away. This is our family. This is our love. Together...
